Medlar in Kensington and Chelsea

You can not fault this restaurant for the quality of the food or service and with effective acoustic panels on the ceilings the noise level is kept under control. My only concern is the cost of the meal and the high price demanded for the items expected when attending a fine restaurant. £7.00 for a thimble full of black coffee seems excessive and the 15% service charge that is based on the gross amount of the bill establishes a gratuity that is possibly over generous. We really like Medlar but now wonder if we can afford to go there.

The atmosphere is warm and nice. Service is incredible especially Jeremy and Santiago. The host from the front desk made us felt so welcome. The food is devine. We enjoyed it very much.

What a place. High end food and service down the Kings Rd. Supremely well cooked food from an appropriately broad food offering. Lots of lovely things in the menu I will try next time. Kind, funny and knowledgeable staff made for a perfect lunch. Many, many thanks. We will definitely be back.

Had a great meal here with the family. There were ten of us including young children and the staff were incredible and very patient. Food was excellent and offer a good corkage rate on Sundays. The whole menu wasn’t available but what we had was excellent. Worth noting, they have one of the best cheese boards in London without a doubt.

As 5/5 as it gets. Classical French cuisine done in a highly professional manner. The food (crab raviolo, smoked salmon, duck breast, Cornish brill) was immaculate with well balanced flavours and cooked to perfection. What really stood out, however, was the service. Every member of the staff made us feel at ease and added to a pleasent evening.

We decided to celebrate a special occasion at Medlar after reading the reviews. We booked well in advance and the manager tried to seat us right in front of the door on a chilli night when we arrived. We declined and he kindly took us to the back of the restaurant where he found a nice corner for us. The food was excellent, perfectly executed using top quality seasonal ingredients. The service staff generally are nice and quite attentive particularly those at junior level. However, it is clear those with seniority use their hierarchy positions to be opinionated and make inappropriate comments. The female sommelier was one of them, pushing to order making remarks, quickly opening our bottle of red wine whilst we were still enjoying a carafe of white. When we told her to stop she rolled her eyes and avoided eye contact from there on.Towards the end of the meal the manager came to our table and sarcastically told us he was going to “update our profile noting we didn’t like to seat in front of the door”. It was all a bit odd and made us feel uncomfortable. We left the restaurant in the middle of the busy dinner service and guess what…the tables in front of the door were still empty! So we weren’t the only ones refusing to sit in front of the draft. His remark was full of sarcasm and spoilt what had otherwise been a pleasant experience.

***Eat incredible food at a reasonable price*** Looking at the food you would think that it would cost much more than it is. If I lived in London, I would come here very often. The fish was well seasoned and cooked to a perfect doneness. Both the front of the house and back of the house know what they are doing. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Visit: 1

A beautiful restaurant with the most lovely staff, incredibly attentive with quick service. The wine list is outstanding. The food menu is great with fantastic variety and thought-through dishes featuring the best of French cuisine. Unfortunately the gnocchi dish was bland and quite doughy. I’d suggest any other dish on the menu 👍

We were impressed by the restaurant's website so decided to dine there. We really enjoyed the evening as the menu was interesting and the wine we chose with the help of the restaurant's sommelier was delicious. Good service with an enthusiastic staff also made it a pleasant place for a meal. We will return even though the meal was expensive. Alas, this is becoming the the norm at pleasant London restaurants.

This restaurant is a fantastic place for exquisite food lovers as the cooking is an art here. We tried their starters which were mouthwatering. I can strongly suggest Crisp calf’s brain which was very delicious and so tender, my husband tried Ox check veloute and was not disappointed either. For the main we opted for Duck breast and confirm leg and it was exceptional. The wine was good too, we took Malbec from Mendoza. It was my birthday , so they surprised us with an ice cream cake and candle which was a very nice gesture. The staff members were very pleasant and the ambiance as well. I can imagine it will be a lovely place for a romantic dinner. Overall great experience and a very satisfying lunch.

We’ve been wanting to try Medlar for a while, having read great reviews about it, but never got round to it until last night when we visited it for a nice family dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day. We definitely regretted not having tried it earlier. Every was spot on. Delicious dishes, beautifully prepared and presented, and lovely, attentive staff going over and beyond to make your experience perfect. Every choice was great… the foie gras and toasted brioche, the roast cod, the grilled artichoke, the duck, the cheese board and the tarte Tatin for two (big enough for 4!) with its crème fraîche ice cream. A real treat from beginning to end. Great choice of wines too. Needless to say, we will be back before long!

The whole thing is just absolutely first rate and in a league of its own.

Medlar simply never fails to satisfy . Top quality food - their classic crab raviolo starter is always guaranteed to satisfy . Three of our party of four had it . Superb selection of mains of excellent quality . The cheese plate we shared before desert was stunning - served at the perfect temperature and wonderful deserts , note in particular the tarte tatin. The wine list is extensive and simply caters for all tastes and budgets . Service was faultless . Put simply Medlar is a gem .

This is how restaurants are meant to be. No pretension, proper food, served superbly by people who genuinely want you to relax and enjoy yourself. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were well looked after. Food is superb. Wine choice excellent. And very good value for what it is. Can’t wait to go back. Do yourself a favour and skip the places who think you should consider yourself lucky to eat there, and go to Medlar instead

Great restaurant. Staff kind, attentive, working hard and know their menu and their wines. Food superb. Lovely ambience: busy but not crowded. None of this sharing plate, bring your food out at random times, affectation. A proper restaurant.

Certes les prix y sont élevées (moins chère le dimanche) mais se justifie par la qualité des plats et une place dans le guide Michellin. J'étais pessimiste de trouver de bonnes tables à Londres plutôt accessible et quelques choses de raffiné mais je fut ravi. Comptez 15 bonnes minutes de marche depuis la station de metro la plus proche.

Really enjoyed a midweek lunch at Medlar. Lots of inventive choices on offer and well-presented. Opting for three courses and coffee proved pretty irresistible, and the dishes delivered - fabulous blend of flavours. Great service too. Nice extras - choice of breads and petit fours with coffee. The prix fixe option is very good.

Had a wonderful lunch here in February 2024. One of the best meals I've had in a long while. The main course of blade beef was elegantly sliced, generous and fabulous. The only problem would be for people with mobility issues as the loo is in the basement and we were on the second floor, but it was worth the climb! There are tables on the ground floor as well. Would go back and would also recommend.

Fixed menu at £60 for 2 course for dinner is pretty reasonable, the food is very competent and service, bar a small hiccup, was very attentive and made for a very good night. Said hiccup was handled efficiently and without fuss, we are all human, and its these things that show true professionalism. Crab ravioli was lovely, the lamb and duck mains both showed depth and complexity, the meal, service and overall experience were worth another visit, well be back!

First class - if i could give this 6 stars I would. Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Also, you can bring your own wine for those special occasions (small corkage fee applies). I will be back very soon!

This is definitely the best restaurant in London and in our opinion quite possibly Uk or Europe in fact. Living in North Yorkshire we are very fortunate in having some exceptional Michelin Star establishments within reach including on the North York Moors, Leeds, York itself and also Northumberland. Visiting our grown up children in London is always a special treat. If you enjoy food of this calibre and perhaps without excessive pretence then you can do no better than Medlar. The 3 course option, whilst traditional, is a refreshing change from an umpteen course tasting menu format and offers the opportunity to indulge in both opulent dishes and the best curated cheese board (anywhere). We must apologise that we did not have the opportunity to review closer to our last of several visits but will most definitely be back soon. We have dined with family on 2 or 3 occasions in the evening and also enjoyed lunch on 2 occasions. Every time, staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, yet informative and make this sublime dining experience still feel accessible and like a home from home in very pleasant surroundings. In our opinion, the longstanding classic offerings and modern/more recent menu developments lie alongside each other, equally superb. Please do not under estimate the culinary expertise here. Whilst sometimes understated it always delivers. Certainly do not forget the very generous and truly amazing selection of international / unusual cheeses. Wine list to match. 11/10

Absolutely delicious food. We had 3 courses at lunch for £47pp, which is a real bargain. The kitchen team are very talented and they're not stingy with the portions either. They add 15% service charge to the bill, but the service is exemplary, so I don't mind too much.

We spent a superb night there. It was perfect, as simple as that. The waiters are really welcoming and nice. Special mention to Jeremy, without whom the night would have been way different. The scenery is great as well. The food was excellent and melts in your mouth. The main course was delicious. The prices are not that expensive for what it is. The dessert were also good. Cherry on the cake: as it was my birthday, they even gave us a cake with a candle on it and started singing Happy Birthday. I am glad we went to Medlar and will for sure go back there soon. I recommend.

I love Medlar. My wife and I went there for our wedding and again on our anniversary. Their service is impeccable- on both occasions the staff were tremendously attentive and we ended up with free deserts, which is always a pleasant surprise. We go for lunches during the week as they are typically slow and easy to book. While we had a bit of an unfortunate incident there (an elderly gentleman got confused and had an accident in the back), this was no fault of the restaurant and its staff. If anything, they treated the gentleman with respect, which I commend. It is definitely not pleasant for me as a customer but then I think: "I would like people to treat my parents with respect, if they ever end up in this situation as they get older."

Down Kings Rd London can be found this wonderful restaurant of great food and attentive, friendly service. Our favorite London restaurant closed, Le Gavroche, at which we have celebrated many anniversaries so chose to come to Medlar where we had a marvelous time. We consumed gougeres while perusing the menu. Foie gras torchon with Armagnac soaked prunes and crab raviolo with shrimp were our starters. Steak with snails,portobello mushroom and roasted cod the mains. Dessert was even more special, a tarte tatin for 2 oozing with caramel tamed a bit with ice cream. For wine I found an affordable Ch Brane Cantenac 2003. The manager spent time with us as did their fabulous sommelier. A great anniversary celebration.

Located in southern Chelsea, Medlar offers a cozy atmosphere for fine dining without straining your budget. However, there is considerable room for improvement. The butter could be softer, and the fries need to be cooked more consistently. While the service is friendly, it lacks the sophistication expected from a fine dining establishment, with the pacing feeling uneven and somewhat chaotic at times. The portion sizes are satisfying, and the tarte tatin is great. However, the overall dining experience does not dazzle; it's mostly well-executed food. The wine pairing is good and complements the dishes nicely, though it isn't extraordinary. Had the bill been slightly higher, I might have rated it three stars. Nonetheless, it was a nice dining experience.

Cooking has deteriorated markedly. E.g., the tempura was oily rather than crisp; the fish not the freshest; the beef plain boring. The menu is not well balanced. Ambience is not soothing; terrible lighting and tiny font makes it near impossible for those of us of a certain age to read the menu. Staff delightful.

Very understated , relaxed atmosphere , service is professional yet friendly and everything arrives to the table in a seamless poetry. Superlative as ever, fine dining with fine portions to match, at time of writing I am 20 hours fasted and not ready to eat yet. Warning. If you get the triple cooked chips as a supplement be hungry, be very hungry.

A great set menu grounded in modern French cuisine, excellent cooking and service, everything was delicious and the ambience was perfect: local and relaxed.
