Mowgli Street Food in Cardiff

Just one word to describe this place- Fake indian restaurant!! You would hardly find any indian either serving or having food. Our food was so blunt and portions were so small (they want to call them tapas style). Looks like it caters for party goers, who are not going to be much bothered of genuine authentic indian food. They completely missed the order of puries & rice and had audacity to add 10% service tax despite that, which I asked to be removed (and they did). If you are looking for real, authentic, indian food, avoid all costs!!

Large group. Super slow, the set menu was chaotic. No breads, no option to add anything to the menu. Waited forever for drinks. It took 3 hours start to finish to get dinner, many people in our group left before the last course. I tried five times to flag someone down to get the bill, ended up walking to the bar to pay.

Order the tiffin, it's fantastic.

Pretty good food. Wasn’t quite at the level I expected but it was good. Thus isn’t your traditional Indian restaurant that we have in the UK that does curry it’s street food, which could be described as Indian tapas style. Very busy in there so clearly people like the place.

Pleasantly surprised they had room for a last minute walk-in, food was brilliant, cocktails were some of the best I’ve had in the recent years! Service was a little slow but staff were wonderful so really can’t complain. Definitely recommend 🥰

First time to eat here. Nice atmosphere and food was good apart from one dessert. Chocolate brownie was not a brownie, more like a fairly dry chocolate cake. When I mentioned this to a staff member he stated that it was as an Indian take on a brownie. So an Indian take on a brownie is dry chocolate cake , which would have been difficult to eat if it wasn’t for the ice cream that came with it. So if you’re looking to have a dessert give the brownie a miss! Shame as rest of meal was good.

We recently came to Mowgli's for my father's birthday and had such a great time. The service was prompt and Catrin was great explaining the menu , especially as we had certain dietary requirements, the food itself was fantastic and I can honestly say it's the best family meal we've had for a very long time.

If you’re expecting your normal Indian take away then it’s not for you. This is amazing food and a true taste of India. Lovely little place, staff attentive and explained the menus prior to ordering. Food served fairly quickly and did not disappoint. Chat bombs and Lamb chops I could eat every day. There is a service charge but totally worth it for the service we received. Will be back.

Visited Mowglis for the first time around 15 months ago and really enjoyed it. What a shocker this time though… prices are now extortionate, portion sizes smaller than we can remember and service completely lacking. If you’re a fan of curry, go to a proper curry house and support smaller independent businesses as this one is now taking the mick. And of course there was a 10% service added to the bill 🙄

I don’t usually write reviews but I recently went here with a group of 11 of us for my 24th birthday. We were only able to order from a set menu, without any pre warning of this. We could not order anything from the normal menu. The servers were unhelpful when we queried this. the chicken in our curries was grey - and as a result several of us were ill the following day. The service was so so poor, my grandad was still eating his meal when the waiters were clearing plates. We were completely rushed out of the restaurant whilst we were finishing deserts. I would not go back. Super disappointed.

Yet another Indian restaurant, tastes nothing like the actual dishes they have on the menu. Most restaurants in the UK just scam people who have never been to India. Ordered butter chicken and it tasted nothing like it. Also ordered paneer wrap and it was so over priced. The food is extremely over priced for not tasting anything like the actual dish and tiny portion size. And on top of selling their small portion for extortionate prices they have a service charge added on top.

Ridiculous that they force you to pay a 10% service fee, this is not America! It is the responsibility of the owners to pay you a decent wage not the consumer! Ruined the whole experience for us and this was one of our favourite places in Cardiff!

Very dissatisfied, tiny portions and very expensive, the waitress seemed annoyed with me struggling to order as there was nothing available on the menu.. Rice was awful, got a chicken curry, literally 2 tiny pieces of chicken, was not even proper portion for starter and was supposed to be a main. Never going to mowgli again, very bad experience.

I had an amazing experience at lunch there today. Great service from Kyle, he was so friendly and helpful with food restrictions requirements. The food was delicious! Definitely recommend.

I don't normally write reviews but I need to today. We visited Mowgli last night placed our order and everything from there took a turn downward. After 30mins a tray of gunpowder chicken was dropped on our table it was cold and I suspect was left somewhere for the 30mins. We complained and asked for it to be served again with the lamb curry this too arrived late and by now it was 10.30. I really didn't want it by then and refused to eat the meal and asked for the bill. The manager came over and to her credit offered and apology and cancellation of the bill. I insisted on paying mainly to prove a point but they refused. I and my wife left hungry. Do not go here late at night. I have a theory about resturants if your meal arrives in 5mins of order it is probably precooked rubbish if your meal arrives 30mins late then there's a problem in the kitchen.

Stunning food every time! No matter what you order on the menu it’s delicious! Cannot go wrong! Must have visit:) The staff are lovely, Jack served us and he was super attentive and very helpful with any questions we had! I’ve tried a lot here but definitely definitely definitely get the fish curry, it’s not a fishy fish to those who are apprehensive! It’s a lovely rich curry, like nothing you’ve had before!

A great little addition to Cardiff. It serves lovely food especially the starters the chat bombs, potato curry and the wrap were INSANE! The service was great too. However, I was disappointed by the curries and felt that other venues serve better curries.

The atmosphere at the restaurant is lovely, twinkly lights and swing seats give the place a great vibe. The food is tasty with plenty of options, I highly recommend the house chicken curry! Food is served in quirky tins giving a real street food vibe. Drinks were quite expensive but there was plenty of choice. During our visit one of our parties food had been completely forgotten about, they were waiting quite some time for their food and we decided to ask where it was, they apologised and quickly corrected this and were kind enough to remove the meal from the bill, great customer service and a suitable resolution for the issue, thank you!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mowglis Street Food on Saturday night. Atmosphere and ambience was great. Staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive and the food was out of this world. Every mouthful was bursting with flavour. Will definitely return. Thank you all!

My partner booked a table here in advance for our anniversary and I'd heard good things so we were both looking forward to dining here. When we arrived the person who greeted us didn't show us to our table and welcome us but merely pointed to a small table in the corner with swing seats that they had appointed us. With it being a cold evening both of us had coats on and due to the seats being swings we had to hang our coats on a door handle of a door next to us. If this wasn't there then we would have had to put them on the floor which nobody would really want to do. As the food is tapas style they recommend ordering a few different dishes which is to be expected. However this becomes difficult when you're on such a small table, so it became a chore trying to arrange the food on the table. The food itself was very disappointing. The lamb chops were tough and had basically been cremated and lacked flavour. We weren't impressed by the curries either unfortunately, as we found them unexciting and a bit bland. All the staff who served us during our visit seemed uninterested and like they didn't really want to be there. So I didn't find it very welcoming. It was a busy Saturday evening but still not an excuse in my opinion. I know the swing chairs are a novelty to go with the decor at this restaurant, but I personally found them narrow and very uncomfortable as they just gave me lower back pain. If you are broad shouldered then trying to eat on one of the swing seats just becomes another chore. As it was a Saturday evening and the restaurant appeared full, it seemed like no other table was available so I had no option but to deal with it. Overall we were very disappointed by the food for the price. I've had much tastier food with bigger portion sizes at lesser prices elsewhere at other Indian restaurants. With the combination of disappointing food, the unwelcoming atmosphere and uninterested attitude of the staff, it unfortunately put a damper on our evening. We both left disappointed and underwhelmed, and me with pain in my lower back from the swing seats.

Excellent food and wonderful atmosphere. A real different take on Indian cuisine. Most staff were pleasant and helpful, but the server we had on my visit was sullen and uncommunicative. Given the vibe in the rest of the restaurant, I think that he was likely the exception, not the rule. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely be returning.

Very disappointed to be asked to leave after 1 hour and 30 mins, while waiting for the dessert menu and having just been served with four glasses of wine. We were told that we could take our wine outside. The temperature was 0 degrees. I will never eat at a Mowglis restaurant again. It spoilt my friend s birthday celebration.

The food and the service were very good, but our meal was spoilt by a corporate event taking place in the same room as the rest of the early evening diners. We went for an early evening pre theatre supper. The tables towards the rear of the restaurant were occupied by a party of about 20-25 who were holding some sort of corporate award ceremony. Initially they were having a smoking break outside the restaurant, but by the time we had ordered they were back inside when the speeches started. So whilst we were eating our food we had to listen to the managers give motivational speeches and hand out a string of awards. The managers also told their staff that if they won an award, they either had to give an acceptance speech or neck their drink. This meant that not only did we have to listen to a bunch of mumbled acceptance speeches but there was also a huge amount of cheering for each award and even more when people were downing their drinks. The noise was so loud that for large parts of the evening we were unable to talk to each other. The food itself was excellent. We had sticky chicken (£8.50), picnic potatoes (£5), Goan fish curry (£9.25) and a Mowgli slaw (£2.50). We each had a Chilli Mango Margarita (£8.75) which was delicious and had a big hit of chilli, plus a large bottle of water (£4.50). The food was so interesting that I went out and got the Mowgli street food cookbook. The staff were also helpful and pleasant. Note that the restaurant does add a 10% service charge. We mentioned the noise to our waitress as we were paying and she apologised. However, what would have otherwise been a great experience was spoilt by the corporate event. I would suggest that in future the restaurant is closed if it is being used for what is essentially a private event, or at least warn diners before they sit down.

Food was absolutely delicious, but three dishes came after we'd finished eating so they took them back without any issue and took them off the bill before we'd even asked. We were sitting in the swing seats and they are silly really - the restrict your arms when you're eating and there's really no need for them. I'd go back for the food though, it was lovely.

Food was okay, I've had far better curry's. Very small portion sizes and the pictures are a bit misleading. They put a massive service charge on without you knowing so if you're happy with your service then it's up to you but I took mine off as the service was quite slow and basic. Over all I had a nice night but I will not be back as I know better places Сору

Perfect 10 out of 10 option if you’re ever wanting to grab either a light or heavy bite to eat! Food was incredibly flavourful, staff was kind and the place is Halal so it’s a win-win all around.

Really interesting menu and delicious food. There were three of us and we chose about ten dishes altogether. Some lovely veggie options. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Pleasant and friendly staff explained the dining experience and were most helpful. We will definitely return.

My first time here and did not disappoint. Best Indian food experience I have had and one of the best food experience to date. Dishes were very tasty and full of flavour. One of the main highlights was the service, Damian was great and a big assist to the restaurant! 💪

Beautifully decorated restaurant with staff who are friendly and professional. The guy who served us was patient, down to earth and clearly knew his job very well. Made us feel at ease very quickly and nothing was too much trouble. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu but I can say that our favourites were the yoghurt bombs, the sticky chicken, the lamb keema, and the tamarind fries. I wish I had a bigger stomach because I would have ordered more if I could! Great food, great staff, great decor

Unreal! It was my first time visiting, and as someone who works in hospitality, this has blown my mind. Amazing service, I think our server was Meg. She gave amazing customer service, and the food was incredible I would give 10 stars if I could

The ambience is lovely and staff efficient polite. Nice low alcohol options. Menu well explained. Food was a little slow in coming and arrived luke warm. Lamb chops were cremated. To be fair the waiter offered fresh replacements but we were already a bit put off. Bread arrived a good 10 mins after the food but was nice and hot. I knew the sizes of the dishes were tapas but they were really small for the price.

This was our first time at Mowgli the flavours exploding in your mouth, sweet sour hot. We are definitely going back, the goan curry was my favorite, we had a lot more. Definitely worth a visit soon tasty

We have been to Mowgli a few times before in other curries but this one wasn’t a great visit. The service was awfully slow. They did apologise but they clearly were overbooked/understaffed. Food was tasty as always. Table was very cramped and you were nearly sitting on top of other people.

It probably was my face that icked them, the food was not even close to what they mentioned on the menu. I'm dropping a picture for reference. ;);) The service, don't expect much if you're the only person of colour in there. The table behind me was cleaned almost thrice by all 3 staffs on duty, whereas on mine they didn't even bother helping us get rid of the used cutlery. The vibe, forget about it I'm sure the same staff runs out looking for "vibe". I'd apologise for the content, only if it weren't true.

Good indian food with fast service

Incredible experience! The food was so tasty. I can especially recommend the chat bombs. Lots of fun and delicious. The service was friendly and professional. A wonderful dining experience, I can’t wait to go back!

Overpriced with very poor service. We waited a long time for 1st course then again between each course. Parts of my food was just warm whilst other parts were hot. This was a set menu pre ordered for 10. Drinks very expensive, 330ml bottle of Cobra £4.95. Glad we only had 1 drink each. We should have refused to pay the 10% service charge of nearly £40. Will eat in the pub next time.

Really disappointed, service was weak, long waits for booked table although it was sitting empty, wait for order, quick in bringing the bill, food not good. Had to leave to go to McDs Sorry won’t be back

Was given the food book for Xmas so wanted to see what the restaurants were like. Social media images show quirky, warm atmospheres, well presented and comfortable. Was not disappointed! Small dish menus are not always easy to navigate regarding size and quantity and the staff were patient dealing with virgin Mowglists! Food was exceptional, well presented and quick! Love the fact that there's a large vegetarian selection AND they accept well behaved dogs. Staff were obviously passionate and informed about the company and explained the Mowgli concept, charitable donation option, extensive distribution of hosting cities and the loyalty scheme. Lunch time visit was quick and easy, but we will be happy to spend a relaxed evening with friends next time. Very well done!

Such a lovely experience and made my friend’s birthday special! Damian was serving us, he was so funny, gave us some recommendations on the menu and really made our evening. Great food and great service. Had four dishes that the waiter recommended and all were delicious. The chat bombs, butter chicken and monkey wrap were especially tasty. The tamarind fries were great but definitely a dish to share as they do feel excessively indulgent. The same can be said about the syrup doughballs as a dessert. Only gripe is the automatically included 10% service charge... Just raise your prices by 10% as the food is worth it. Overall highly recommended.

Very disappointed - very rarely do I leave reviews but I visited four days ago and I am only just starting to feel better after suffering from food poisoning. Had the prawn curry and woke up the next day with awful nausea/stomach cramps and a high fever. I can see a review from last week also complaining of food poisoning - sort this out, its unacceptable and made me very ill.

We were recommended this place & it did not disappoint. We originally could only get a table at 9.30pm as it was so busy. We happened to be walking past earlier in the day and popped in to see if we could bring the booking forward. The manager Luke could not have been more helpful, with a few taps of the computer and “table Tetris” he soon had a slot at 7.30pm. The staff were absolutely great, food out of this world, service wonderful & friendly. We were delighted to hear they have a London restaurant too ! We will be back for sure.

Had dinner here Sunday 7th January - so impressed we purchased the restaurant cookbook on leaving at the end of the meal! First time, and have to say food and value for money go hand in hand, some wonderfully delivered modern street food takes on some authentic Indian, Pakistani meals. A lovely and incredibly cute little restaurant. I'd love to see what they could do in a larger premises.

Delicious food and masala chai. Our waiter, Damien was also very attentive. All of the food tasted fresh and full of flavour.

We visited this city for the Christmas Market. This restaurant we went as a family and enjoyed every bit of it. It was beautiful, staff was attentive and I want to go back! The food was amazing. My compliments to their team!

If i could give this place more stars I would! Not only is the atmosphere immaculate, the service and food are also phenomenal! You absolutely have to try the chat bombs if youre here!

Superb. Booking of 13 amended to 14 last minute and they were very accommodating. Food & Service was excellent. Christmas party in 2022 as well as 2023 and will be coming back in 2024! What a great place for a curry.

The staff at Moglies are brilliant. The food is consistently delicious every time the atmosphere is pleasant, and if you have the time, go by and try it out. Booking is recommended, breads are not so good. Bit boring in taste if I'm being honest.

I have eaten at Mowgli in Cardiff twice. Both times the staff have been very welcoming and give you advise on how/what to order. The food is all small plates and comes in no particular order, as and when it is ready. Good choice on the menu for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. The drinks menu is also good with some lovely non-alcoholic cocktails to pair with the food. Food has been lovely both times, hot when served and portion sizes are good. I would recommend and I would re-visit. I have always requested when booking a table with the swing chairs as a novelty, both times the restaurant was able to accommodate my request.

Seems to me this is the type of restraunt where the food is prepared ouside and then reheated when required and dished into bowls.The lamb curry was not pleasant and the lamb chops were frazzled and hard.Will not be going again.
