Excellent service even though it was very busy. Ladies very friendly and attentive. Afternoon tea delicious

We stay 5 mns walk from Morningside Patisserie , had been to book ,no need , tried to phone , went today lunch time , sorry no tables , can wait ,comeback .no ,can we book for later , NO , what a rude and disgraceful way to react ,went else ware. Looked in one hour later it was empty.

Products are good but service is really poor. We were seated and told they only had quiche for lunch, we were presented with a slice of quiche on a small plate, not a bit of garnish, and made to feel quite unwelcome. We decided to get cakes to take away to have with a coffee at home and but when we got home we were one cake short. Such a shame as I have shopped here many times but eating in was very disappointing.

The food looks appealing but sadly is not the quality customers would expect of its French name. A letdown and service not very friendly either. Very average - Edinburgh has so many cafes and bakeries that value quality, hard to see this surviving. I won’t be back.

My family and I were excited about visiting this bakery. However our experience was dire. The prices are exorbitant and the service is second-rate. The food was forgettable in a characterless environment and not worth a repeat visit. AVOID!!!

I know Covid is making things difficult but I have been here twice (always try and give everywhere a second chance) and the welcome is not a warm one. In truth, it's grumpy. The baked goods look amazing but unfortunately it's style over substance. Indifferent coffee.

We stopped here for pastries and coffees after being drawn in by the impressive window display. However once inside, we were disappointed by the rude and unwelcoming service along with weak coffees and dry scones. A great shame.

NOT RECOMMENDED! My friend and I had planned to meet at Patisserie Maxime Morningside (October 2020) but she was told she couldn't book. When she got there today, she was told they were "fully booked." VeryConfused.com. She was then informed that - okay, she could have a table for two, but had to be out by 1.30pm (it was 12.30pm). By 2pm there were still empty tables evident. We both ordered the goats cheese and spinach quiche, which arrived stone cold. I asked if it could be heated, and was informed there was no means of heating on the premises. Not even a microwave oven!?? Overpriced at £5.95 for simply a slice of cold, slightly burnt quiche, nothing else. Cold, unwelcoming atmosphere, so we decided to go next door to La'Telve Cafe & Bistro, where we discovered a friendly welcome, cosy atmosphere, reasonably priced and - not surprisingly - well patronised. In these tough times, Patisserie Maxime needs to 'brush up' on its service, obtain a microwave oven.....and lower its iniquitous prices. Kathleen, Edinburgh

I ordered a celebration cake online for delivery and the whole process was smooth and simple. The service was great, delivery prompt and the cake itself looked stunning and tasted delicious. It made for one very happy birthday boy - thank you!

My wife had a white chocolate Florentine and I had a dark chocolate one. They were simply the best we had ever tasted. The other items on display looked wonderful.

Came for a coffee and a cake once, and came back for more. I recently got my birthday cake from this place and it was absolutely yummy and super elegant!

Too early for a gig at nearby Whighams i spotted this place. All looked good so sandwich and earl grey time it was. I was served by a very charming and helpful American lady. I chose olive bread with Hummus and salad. It was delicious. I then was tempted to some mini pastries. I had two pots of earl grey tea and all the time to drink it in a nice warm friendly atmosphere. Meals are also available earlier in the day. Healthy choices are the order of the day but these are negated by the wonderful cakes and pastries on offer. In the area of Queensferry St. Do drop in, you won't regret it. Sandwiches are huge,so be hungry.

Fresh, authentic and lovely. After walking around in the west end, we decided to stop for some breakfast and coffee in this delicious French patisserie. All went fantastically well and we would return anytime!

Acabo de salir de la tienda compró 12 macrones para mi amigo que nunca había tenido macarrones antes, también me compré un eclair y Mont Blanc. La chica me sirvió todo el tiempo, ¡ni una sola sonrisa! No hay caja de regalo para macarrones, le pregunté si tenían bolsa de transporte, la niña dijo "sí, 10 peniques". Le pregunté qué tipo de bolsa, pensé que sería papel uno para poder poner macarrones y dárselo a mi amigo, gire ¡Es una simple bolsa de plástico blanca, la misma que encuentras en la sección de verduras sueltas del supermercado! ! Más asombrosamente, la chica de la tienda dijo "tenemos que cobrarlo, por ley". Por supuesto que sé que es ley, ¡pero la ley te dijo 5 p por bolsa!Aunque la comida está bien, no volveré!

They cakes here are great! There is a wide selection of cakes and cookies, and all of them are tasty. Everybody will find something nice for themselves. Prices are decent and location is central. The lady who served us was very helpful and friendly. I will come back here.

Stopped for breakfast after getting off the tram from airport. Well located, close to the end of the main shopping strip Princes Street. I ordered Eggs Royale and my fiancée Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs. Service was brusque but adequate. Food was average... Eggs royale was on bread rather than muffins, and came with a radish and pepper salad and liberal sprinkling of coriander, which was very weird. The salmon was cooked, rather than lightly smoked, and was the kind you might get in an airport or cheap B&B.; On the plus side, if you like the salmon, there are three eggs royale as opposed to the usual two (or even one!). All in all, not what I hoped from a Patisserie Française... I don't think I'll be back.

Service was just ok, took a long time, but I ordered the salmon quiche. When It came it was warm on the outside and cold in the middle, I found this unusual but I still ate and it was very nice. The rest the day was not so nice- I had to spend it next to the toilet and in bed

Dropped in for a coffee and cake. The patisseries (cakes) were wonderful. They also do a lovely looking afternoon tea so we must go back. The coffee and service was also good.

Lovely staff ,cheap prices ,genuine French cuisine and superb coffee....could not speak highly enough of this fine little French restaurant

Came here with my children whilst on a work trip to the city. The croissants are incredible - took me right back to being in France! The coffee is roasted and ground on site so yummy! A little area for children so perfect. Highly recommend a visit.

The place is quite tiny with tables close together, therefore noisy. However, the coffee is beautifully done, and the pastries are also lovely. Although we didn't indulge in afternoon tea, quite a few other patrons were--a most interesting presentation on 3 tiers of what appears to be grass. Sounds funny but it's very attractive. Very welcoming staff!!

Afternoon tea. The food and the service were both superb, however the tables are crammed too close together to be comfortable and this also contributes to it being very noisy, making conversation a little tricky at times. That said, the afternoon tea was amazing and everyone we spoke with was extremely pleasant and helpful - which went a long way to making up for the environment!

I was there sat may 4th and from the look everything seemed good. The place is incredibly overcrowded,impossible to walk at the table without elbowing someone.had a cake simple fruit cake. Fruit amazingly fresh but the sponge was very puzzling. It has no taste whatsoever and looked like bread. Really tasteless I don’t think I would go back again specially after paying £5 for 3 layers of bread. Really disappointing

A delightful assortment of sandwiches, scones, pastries, cakes and tarts. Beautifully presented and extremely fresh. very good service from the waiting staff made this a very enjoyable afternoon. I will be back.

If you’re looking for somewhere to have a little me time and to treat yourself then come here. The cakes are amazing...afternoon tea is a wonderful sight, but sadly they don’t have any gluten-free options as part of the afternoon tea.

We stayed at a nearby Airb&b; and came to Patisserie Maxime every morning during our trip! The coffees were perfect! My kids had the pain au chocolat and we had croissants - all were excellent. My partner is French and we spend a lot of time in France and we felt like we were back "home". We didn't try the macaroons but they looked amazing! The staff were so friendly, remembering us when we came and our food preferences even after just a few days. The cafe is clean and cute and in a great neighbourhood. We felt lucky to have found it straight away!

Great Cafe! The food and the staff are absolutely amazing! Would definitively go back on my next trip to Edinburgh! The cakes were really to die for and got some macarons to take away!

Looks inviting from the outside in this busy city centre location but once inside, be prepared for really tacky looking decor, tables crowded haphazardly together and unpleasant ‘muzak’ which will prevent any sense of relaxation. The unkempt staff are clearly suffering from having to work in this depressing environment but may be doing their best, who knows? A view of the kitchen does not really inspire confidence regarding anything - basic hygiene, for instance. The piece de resistance, since we are evidently attempting a French theme here, was the food: an insipid green mess devoid of flavour and no parmesan cheese, purporting to be courgette and potato soup was inedible. The coffee - lacking - well, coffee flavour! But worst of all, dirty cutlery clearly showing the signs of a previous guest’s meal, indicated a failure to rinse before placing in the dish washer. Staff motivation, dress code and training, attention to hygiene matters and a complete refit to exclude unpleasant furniture and nasty ‘music’ urgently required here.

Stopped in for a quick take-away at the end of the day. Absolutely horrible chai latte using fake syrup and dry and tastless cheese scone. Very disappointed

Whilst up for the rugby we stopped at Patisserie Maxime for a cup of tea, pastry and warm up. Maxine’s is a lovely patisserie, with plenty on offer and great service. Strongly recommend Maxime’s and will happily return when we are up in Edinburgh.

Popped in for a roll and cake, had a fantastic ham cheese and gherkin baguette on delicious bread. Cakes are great, just like patisseries in France. Highly recommended and in a different league from ‘Patisserie Valerie’ which is more of a glorified Greggs.

Simply yum! Wanted a light lunch so decided to pop in here. Glad we did! Service was prompt and very cheery. Had a rustic French style sandwich with a simple salad on the side and a couple of coffee's. Delicious crusty baguette well filled and a good salad dressing made a very tasty and quite filling lunch. Couldn't fault the place. From the display of gorgeous looking cakes etc I wish we had more time to sample some of then as well. Having just read some of the previous comments I am left puzzled why some people were so disappointed?

Second time we have visited Patisserie Maxime for afternoon tea and have to say that this time was even better than the first. The selection of savouries on offer with is definitely the best I’ve had as usually with an afternoon tea there are far too many sweet things. Cakes are absolutely delicious, we managed to scoff the whole thing! Presentation of the food is beautiful and very unique. Will definitely be back

The cakes in the window looked nice, a cake shop with tables and chairs at the back. We just wanted a cake and coffee. There were only a few people sitting in but we weren't allowed to sit on a sofa (that's our biggest table !). Soon after we arrived we were handed some tatty menus which didn't adequately explain how to get a cake and a coffee, concentrating on multiple pages of "formule". The waitress then sat another couple right next to us, elbow nudging distance. Why ? The place was still almost empty. Walked out. If the management / owners are interested try listening to what clients want, rather than planning for the 11:30 coach trip that never comes.

First and last visit. Service was fine. The cinnamon and orange hot chocolate was horrible, had thick bits of powder or something else throughout so was not smooth. The cake was a trio of dark white and milk choc was very bland tasting, really disappointed.

We’d been here for breakfast some time ago and it was fairly good, so, having to be in Edinburgh early on a Sunday morning we decided to go back. Big mistake. It was not very busy at 9.45, it opens at 9.00, and we had to wait and wait to be seated. Nothing happened for 5-10 minutes, then we got the menu and again nothing happened for 5-10 minutes. Outside it was a wet cold Sunday. Inside it was cool. A waitress came for our order. And again nothing much happened for about 10 minutes. The food arrived, toast and jam, baguette and jam, a flat white and a cappuccino. The toast was cold, the cappuccino was cool and no one came to check back. My knife was a serrated steak knife, not suitable for spreading toast, but then again I didn’t have much to spread as I hadn’t been given any butter. We paid the bill at the counter on the way out, we had been there for 1 hour. The waitress asked if it had been alright and we said it hadn’t. She didn’t taken anything off the bill. I told her we would never be back and I would give it a negative review on TripAdvisor. I only work here part time was her response.

Was looking forward to afternoon tea, however, was very disappointed. Apart from the scones everything was quite tasteless. Scones were okay, couldn't believe the quiche had been microwaved (pastry too soggy to be anything else). So disappointed, don't want to return, such a shame. Coffee was nice as were the waiting staff, but didn't make up for the food.

Having been caught in one of Edinburgh's finest downpours we were cold and wet and hungry. As we walked down from Edinburgh Castle our eyes saw the wondrous delights in the window of this little cafe: gorgeous cakes and sumptuous baguettes. It was pretty packed but we found a table in the adjoining room. At this time they were only accepting cash (not sure if this is always the case) which was fine. There doesn't appear to be table service but we ordered at the counter and were served really quickly. I had the butternut squash which was probably the nicest soup I have had in a long time. We also ordered a delicious baguette. However, the jewel in the crown had to be the divine cakes. Beautiful to look at and tasted wonderful too. We had a layered sponge with a wonderful array of fruits on the top. Totally scrummy. The cafe was buzzy with loads of people having a proper lunch too. Not ridiculously expensive either and a wonderful treat for the taste buds.

We stopped in here and I chose a scone and a tea. The scone was delicious and clearly freshly made. Only drawback is that it came with packet pats of butter and not cream!!

We went there to have coffee. The place was nice, the coffee was good, price was OK and staff was also very nice.

Was here for high tea, lovely food and good coffee. Its a small place and the high teas seemed very popular as i spied around 4 other tables ordering them.

If you are someone who is crazy for desserts you should definetly visit this place. I still crave their mousse(?). The coffees and cakes are amazing too.

Really the best ever! Brilliant selection of savouries and more cakes than you can possibly eat. They even box up you what you can't manage for you to take home. Thoroughly recommended.

Really awful service just don't go there ever ! I went into the shop - asked about buying whole tart - told to go away and look at website - I mean, I was standing pointing at the large tart I wanted not sure why I couldn't order it then and there ! Trailed home, went on website and asked simple question on their contact form - i.e how long would the tart keep in the fridge so that I could order two big tarts (over £40) - no answer weeks later ! Take note - they don't give a so and so about customer service and note that this is Edinburgh - there are plenty places to buy a good lemon tart but very obviously not at Maximes - you are just dreadful and deserve no customers at all

Un petit bijou pour déjeuner ou pour la collation d’après midi ou simplement pour vous gâter en voyage :) n’hésitez pas c’est délicieux. Le biscuit aux framboises est vraiment bon.

We were staying nearby and stopped in one morning for breakfast rolls and coffee. The bacon and egg rolls were quite good as was the coffee. A chocolate and almond pastry was excellent. A couple days later we stopped in to pick up desserts “to go”. These too were delicious. I think the shop may be understaffed much of the time which may account for the staff being too busy / tired and less friendly than might be desirable. Would definitely recommend. Prices seem to be slightly below other patisseries.

The reason we came back, is because of the presentation...It's different, and gives it an edge over a standard layout.

The afternoon tea we had yesterday was just delicious and huge! The profiterole with pistachio cream was a highlight. Really yummy! Unfortunately the place lets itself down with its sullen staff who clearly didn’t want to be there.

Got a itison voucher for afternoon tea with prosecco and it was amazing. Such a great selection and was presented very uniquely . Only thing staff could smile a wee bit more friendly, a couple of them had faces like slapped back sides . The lists could be monitored too , could of done with a wee freshen.

Gleich neben dem bekannten französischen Restaurant "L'escargot blanc" liegt die viel besuchte Patisserie Maxime. Hier lässt sich ausgezeichnet frühstücken, alles frisch und lecker. Es gibt neben den vielen süssen Desserts auch Sandwiches aller Art. Immer noch ein Geheimtipp für süsse Schlemmermäuler.

The cakes are what drew us here, there's a lack of patisseries in Edinburgh, when I say that I mean small independent ones, not the chains where there's plenty!

I wasn’t sure what to expect based on some of the reviews I had read. However the service was great, we had afternoon tea. The server came and explained everything that was served. The food tasted as good as it looked and would definitely return.

Had booked afternoon tea and it was Amazing, the presentation was out of this world and the food was of the highest standard. The staff were so friendly and helpful. There was so much food we took some of it away in a box. Would definitely go back.

My wife and I were looking for somewhere for some coffee and cake as we had about 30 minutes spare before a meeting and walked past Patisserie Maxime, previously we must have walked down Queensferry Street but never noticed it. Maybe on this occasion as we were looking for some cake it came to our attention.

Patisserie Maxime offer a large variety of sweet and savoury bites. They also have nice hot beverages. I did have a look through the menu and I did find it a bit over priced. For example you could get a drink, quiche and a small bite of something for almost 10 quid. For that money you could get a two course meal at a french restaurant down the street. Also the interior wasn't to my taste, tables were situated in the back and it was really dark.

I tried to book afternoon tea and was 'put down' for booking n the wrong way. When I complained I was told I was 'backwards'. Not an ounce of decency when I tried to point out that I found the words offensive.

Have passed this shop for years in way home from work and the cakes look amazing. Saw a deal on itison for afternoon tea and decided to treat my mum. Had read reviews about the service and was a bit apprehensive.

I went in for a coffee and a sandwich. Although there were only around 4 other people eating there, it took the waitress 10 minutes to take my order, and I had to remind her that I was there, as she showed no sign of coming to take my order. She eventually brought me an unmemorable sandwich and an okay coffee. Service was perfunctory at best, and I felt they were overpriced. From the outside, it looks like a charming and delightful place to have a sandwich or a pastry, but the service wasn't friendly or welcoming. Their patisserie does look amazing: beautifully made and displayed, but I just wanted a sandwich. I won't be back.

The cakes will tempt you in. Some were absolutely dripping with fruit and I can vouch that they tasted as good as they looked. In the Gents toilets there was a bit of a printed rant about Tripadvisor & customer expectations which suggests they have had some odd reviews but I was happy with my visit & would go back.

My wife and I had brunch here. Food was excellent. The food portion was substantial. Fruit, Granola yogurt and puree, croissant, half a baguette, mushroom omelette,jam and butter coffee. And that was just for me. My wife had a bowl of yogurt,muesli and fruit puree and a croissant. This set us up for the day, we also bought a slice of apple tart and a pastry twist for the train journey home. Excellent food freshly baked on the premises.

Wir waren hier um die Mittagszeit, um eine Kleinigkeit zu essen. Das Patisserie Maxime liegt am Ende der Princes Street, etwas ferner vom ganzen Trubel rund um Black Friday. Die Köstlichkeiten in der Auslage sind schon sehr verlockend. Es fällt schwer, sich auf etwas festzulegen, zu gerne würde man mehr probieren. Wir hatten kleine Tarteletts mit Creme und Himbeeren und Eclairs. Dazu einen köstlichen Kaffee. Bin 2018 wieder in Edinburgh und möchte auf alle Fälle nochmal vorbeischauen. Ist auf alle Fälle ein Besuch wert.

Best macaroons I've had so far on my visit to edinburgh, with a wide selection of flavours, the black forest was in particular beautiful, would recommend for a treat.

My wife must have cake with her coffee. So having exhausted the varieties offered by Patisserie Valerie we decided to try a different venue in the form of Patisserie Maxime.

Went for a quick look and the amazing food invited us to stay straight away, we order some eggs, baguettes, coffes, drinks, big order, no big deal, everything was delicious and the price is incredible but unfortunetely the service was terrible, could be one of the best patesserie in Edinburgh but staff (not all of them) is rude. Management needs to prepare their staff, I work in hospitality and I’ve never seen a service like this. But I should say, not all of them. Food still amazing!

Amazing cakes and macaroons.. Have been meaning to take a picture and post it, but the food is always gone in a heartbeat!

We go to Maxime Pattisserie quite regularly and will continue to do so since they have the best coffee, almond croissants and brunch menu options. We are always greeted nicely and attentively being looked after.

I arranged to meet a friend and her baby here for coffee due to the cafe being all on one level and with a great selection of cakes to choose from.

Have just had afternoon tea at patisserie maxime and it was fantastic, the variety of sandwiches and cakes were Great and loads for 2 that we had to have what was left boxed to take home. Great value for money and the staff were great as well. Would definately recommend.

Lovely cafeteria with delicious cakes and pastries. Coffee is on average. Excellent position at few steps from the Princes Gardens and 10 minute walking from the Royal mile and the castle. Professional staff but not very friendly.

Nipped in for coffee on way home. Service absolutely brilliant, very professional! Staff on duty were first class, well done guys!

I ate in here for lunch which was ok but the ham and cheese baguette had not been buttered and was very dry

The outside appearance made this look like a haven for anyone with a sweet tooth but there were quite a few savoury items on the menu. That was what we wanted so we entered.

We get lunch delivered to our office of 60 plus staff once a week. The variety of food is always great. The quality of what is offered is such a high standard and everyone is always very satisfied. Whether it is baguettes and bagels or a beef stew and potatoes Cyril and the staff at Patisserie Maxime always provide great homemade food. We would always recommend them to any other business and also anyone passing their shop should pop in and try their cakes and macarons they are always a favourite with staff!

We stopped in on the way back to our hotel last night for a sweet treat. Lots of goodies to chose from, even after the dinner hour. I chose a beautiful looking meringue and almond topped cookie. The meringue was perfect! I had it with tea back at the hotel. My friend had ice cream and said it was delicious. The server behind the counter was helpful and pleasant.

We stopped here for a quick lunch and coffee a couple of times during our visit to Edinburgh. The good is delicious and the coffee is wonderful. The staff is very nice and helpful. Well worth the visit and so much better than the chain bakeries that have invaded. Highly recommend.

Visited today with family using an Itison voucher for afternoon tea with prosecco which cost £39 for 4 people. First impressions weren't great as it just seemed to be a small café. We were shown to our table which was two sofas in the back corner and at that stage we were still quite sceptical. The waitress brought over prosecco and coffee very quickly and not long after the stand with the food was brought out. To say we were impressed is an understatement! If you prefer savoury snacks to sweet treats it might not be for you as there were only two sandwiches although they were on delicious rustic olive crusty bread so were quite filling. There was also a small cup of guacamole and sour cream and an omelette slice on melba toast. As well as those, there was a large scone each with jam although no cream and an array of beautiful little cakes including macarons and raspberry tarts. Everything was delicious! I've been to various places for afternoon tea including Gleneagles and this was definitely one of the best and at less than £10 per person easily the best value for money!

I treated my friend to birthday afternoon tea and added a glass of prossecco and extra coffee. We got a bill at end of our treat, left the money with a waitress and made our way on Queensferry street, only to be chased and brought back by same waitress saying we had been £5 short. When we got back we felt very embarrassed only to find the £5 note had blown off the plate. No apology was offered and we felt the afternoon treat had been ruined. We will not be back!!!

Beautiful cakes.. I bought 3 cakes from here for my brother's birthday and they were all absolutely amazing and well made. I will definitely order again in future. Must try this place if you're in Edinburgh.

Went with a friend and enjoyed this with a voucher. The window displays look wonderful with all sorts of goodies. We enjoyed egg and cheese and ham rolls with our glass of Prosecco, then we had little portions of cakes and parties which were delightful. Disappointed by the scones, rather large compared to everything else and very hard with NO cream. I did ask but they said no (in a patisserie ???) . Young staff were very friendly.

At the recommendation of our concierge, we enjoyed coffee and a light lunch at Patisserie Maxime. The window display of confections was highly diverting, though we were only seeking soup and salad, which were quite nice. The décor creates an attractive room and atmosphere. Service was adequate but not overly attentive. The quality of the food is the reason for four stars instead of three. Better staff training would help here.

Our office sometimes gets Maxime food as a treat. Really great food, I especially love the salmon or spinach quiches.

We got an itison voucher for afternoon tea and fizz for 4. Unfortunately, there were only 3 of us who were able to attend, however that didn't spoilt the fun! We were still blessed with the same amount of food and drink! We didnt leave a crumb, as it was all too good to leave! Yum yum! Definatly wouod recommend and will be going back
