We stayed near to this pub. From day one Jenny and her staff were friendly and polite. We had two meals, the Sunday roast lovely, and again on Tuesday evening. We had meals off the specials list both were piping hot and very good portions. Well worth a visit. Thanks to Jenny and her staff. Xx

Poorly cooked food (mostly microwave cooked) I had curry with half chips, next to no meat and served with peas, sweetcorn, onion rings, mushrooms and more onion, with some extra onion added to replace the chicken! Family had sirloin steak but it was possibly boiled or microwaved then shown the grill served with the same sides as the curry. All pretty tasteless and expensive. Not going to be back - ever!

This pub is really nice with a seperate bar and dining room. The staff are nice and the menu is varied with vegetarian options. I have been here some years ago and in my opinion the food snot as good as it was but its all home cooked. They do Sunday roasts as well as cementing food. There is a car park across the road for the pub.

We have visted the Pen Y Bryn many times with family. This particular occasion was for my moms Birthday. We had to wait at the bar for 5.minutes until what appeared to be a local decided to help us out and start to serve our drinks. We then sat at our table and waited quite a while until our orders were taken. Another table who came in after us, even though we were early, were served before us. I tried to explain my 8 year old daughter would like a selection of meat as would not eat much of the veg selection described as not to her taste, however she was given a yorkshire and the tiniest piece of beef. Unbelievable in fact my fathers meal when handed to him he thought was a childs meal. Moving on the veg which my grandmother had to ask for whilst everyone had almost finished there small meals arrived as a slop which we all believe were left overs from other customers as ours were forgotten. To finish when my mom diplomatically explained our disappointment the manager clearly could not handle the complaint in a managerial capacity. She raised her voice, did not apologise once although clearly recognising there was a problem as she discounted the meal. What ashame as my family and I were regulars at the Pen Y Bryn.

Muchos thaks!

We had heard that this little unassuming pub served good food, so as a last minute get away with friends we tried to book mother's day Sunday lunch unfortunately it was fully booked for lunch time but were offered an evening meal to which we decided to have instead of lunchtime. We arrived at 6pm and had a little wait while a place became available and while we waited were shown what food we could choose from by a lovely jovial lady. The pub is very oldie worldly which was really rare to find these days and so nice, we ordered our food and were advised as we only wanted 2 glasses of wine that perhaps a bottle was going to be a better buy as we could take any remaining wine away with us, the food was superb and really well presented and a little chocolate was placed under our serviettes which was a very nice touch as it was mothers day and on paying our bills when we left us ladies had a little gift of mugs presented to us a lovely surprise, we will definitely return such a lovely homely atmosphere and fabulous staff. The kids loved their food too!I do recommend that you try the local Ale brewed in Cardigan. I think what really added to the experience is that it is a hub of the community, the proprietors knew everyone who came in, greeted them by name. All the food came out piping hot (where it should have been)I really can't fault this lovely little pub. Landlord and lady were very pleasant. Food very good. Pudding yummy. Yes there was the sound of the microwave. And yes our dinners came with salad (with orange) chips and onion rings but so what - at the end of the day it's a pub and they are serving pub meals. I stumbled across this little gem purely by accident and I'm glad these type of traditional pubs are still surviving in this economic climate.I was greeted with a warm, friendly welcome by John the owner and although it was close to lunchtime closing he said it would be no trouble to prepare something for me.I opted for a bar meal rather than the traditional menu but I have to say it was delicious and well presented. If you are looking for somewhere to eat that offers good quality food, excellent value for money and a very friendly welcome I would definitely recommend this great little pub.

Well where to start! What a delightful little village pub, with delightful owners. So friendly. We booked Xmas Day lunch and it was so good that we immediately booked Sunday lunch 2 days later!!The tables had place names and a present each. Our names were remembered not just then but on Sunday also.We had never met before Xmas Day.Service was extremely good but not over bearing.THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD on both visits. We shall return here every time I go to my Dads from now on.Thank you so much for such wonderfull treatment. Please don't be put off by negative reviews.Roll on March for our next treat here.

Had Sunday lunch with a group, it was very tasty and boiling hot but the meal was average especially the bought-in puddings. Plenty of parking space.

We found the Penybryn Arms a year ago on a visit to Wales. Twelve months on whilst staying in Cardigan we were surprised to find that Sat Nav took us straight past a familiar pub whilst heading out!A couple of nights later we went for dinner. As I walked through the door I was pleased to see the same landlord behind the bar….a great character and a warm welcome from him and his wife. The menu is wide (and a good numbers of choices for vegetarians). All meals are served with salad (garnish), mushrooms and a BIG bowl of great chips.Be warned portions are very generous. We all struggled with a starter and main. Great quality, good prices and excellent hosts. Here’s to our next trip to Wales.P.S. Very dog friendly too! Our two lads loved the attention and treats!

must be one price for locals & the expensive price for visitors otherwise there wouldn't be any good reviews.every meal served with salad, chips, mushrooms & onion rings ( including a slice of orange & a strawberry ).my lasagne was £11 & halfway through it became inedible with uncooked , hard pasta with little meat in it. ( was also served with a layer of greasy oil on top of the whole dish- side effect of microwaving everything as the regular 'ping' of the microwave resounds around dining room!i can only think that the owner/ 'cook' is taking the mickey out of british people & how we continue to pay silly money for poor food.sadly, very little choice of restaurants around here but my advice would be to travel the extra 3 miles into cardigan & have fish & chips!

We always enjoy a meal out at the Pen Y Bryn Arms. The experience is more akin to visiting family, than eating out. Nothing is too much trouble, and we always leave thoroughly satisfied, full, and having enjoyed the welcome and humour of our hosts. We are fortunate we only live just over a mile away! ;o)

We ate here twice during our weeks stay in Cilgerran. The staff and locals were very welcoming and according to my other half, kept a decent pint. The meals were very good with a variety to choose from. Personally, even if they are microwaved it wouldn't worry me. Taste is far more important. The portions are very generous. Avoid the lemon pudding, you just won't like the light sponge with lots of lemon sauce and creamy custard............!!!!!!!!!!

Not a gourmet meal but classic pub grub. A massive menu choice which suited our differing palates. The portions were large and came quickly. Each had interesting side dishes but I am used to this being bought up in wales - a curry with chips, rice, onion rings and a salad including strawberries. The puddings were equally massive. Great for a night of beer and pub grub.

We came upon this pub on our way through Cilgeran and all looked well from the outside, looked clean and tidy and walked in to find a log fire which was the best thing about this pub. The landlord took our order and after making a hilarious comment that he would see us in two weeks cleared off into the kitchen and seen as though there was only one more couple in the pub and no background music we could clearly here the door on the microwave shut and then here it ping 5 minutes later. (I didn't hear any hand washing taking place between all this either) as he brought the food out he said "I hope its warm enough for you" at first it seemed okay but as i got to the thicker part of the pork shank it was cold in the middle. before i got to this point he had been out again to ask if it was warm enough for a second time. Needless to say i couldn't eat it any more! I would of had more of the salad but the mouldy strawberries on the side didn't make that look too appetising either. You could also tell my partners lasagne had been through the microwave, the pasta was stodgy and chewy. When he came out to collect our plates and noticed we hadn't cleaned up and asked if everything was okay i said mine was cold in the middle and then he said " oh i do worry about that" so basically i had a very bad experience at the Pen Y Bryn Arms and wouldn't recommend it to anyone! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

Just back form an evening meal at Pen Y Bryn Arms. We arrived and were a little worried about being served as it seems that this area closes for food on Tuesday! Anyway we were welcomed and it was not a problem to have food.Great.Looked at the menue and the usual Pubby food was there but the blackboard offers were really different. We opted for the Salmon and Prawn and the Chicken and leek Suet pudding! Dont see these options on a normal bar meal menue. The food arrived and was hot and tasty followed by an enormous dish of chips..All freshly cooked and, yes I am sure there was a microwave in there somewhere but it all tasted so good and fresh. Get down there for a real tasty meal with a great choice of drink

Really great menu - satisfying the vegetarians and vegans in our family. It was busy but the turnover seemed quick. We shared a large table with a local couple, our dog sitting happily under the table

A great choice of food. We could see dishes being brought out to other tables. It was a hard decision what to order. In the end we opted for the steak and Stilton pie. It was lovely.
