Riksha Streetside Indian in Aberdeen City

Having walked past this place in Aberdeen’s Union Square a few times, we decided to go for lunch as I felt sorry that it was always pretty much empty. Sadly we quickly found out why. Although the menu boasts some delicious sounding dishes, the restaurant goes for aesthetics rather than quality. My lamb bhoona arrived nicely presented but lacked flavour and was incredibly salty. For someone who likes well salted food, this is saying something. I’m not talking about a bit more salt than to my liking, more that someone had thrown in an extra tablespoon (or at least that’s what it tasted like). My husbands burnt green chicken curry tasted more like a mild stew than an Indian curry and wasn’t particularly nice. If I closed my eyes, not sure I’d have known his dish was Indian. The naan was doughy. Of note there is no alcohol license. Sadly, the worst Indian food I’ve had in my many decades of eating Indian food. And if you’re wondering why we didn’t say anything, it was a special occasion and we didn’t want to ruin it. I did, later, quietly mention the excessive salt to the waiter and got an odd response of “at least you enjoyed it” - ??! Sorry guys, you need to change your chef. Won’t be back sorry.

This place is really worth a visit.We stumbled across it and would highly recommend the food is delicious,fresh, friendly and some lovely surprises with new and interesting flavours on the menu .

Came across this restaurant by chance, and it’s a pity they don’t display the full menu and prices outside because they just show a selection with no prices, which makes you think it’s going to be really expensive. Well I’m glad I ventured in because it’s good value for money and the menu is really unusual and interesting. I enjoyed everything I had and the staff were lovely.

We popped in as we were passing with no knowledge of this restaurant before. It was amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food was superb. What a good choice. We will definitely return the next time we are in Aberdeen.

Excellent food, at a great price. Attentive staff, Maybe a bit over so, asked if we were ok, again and again. But better that than being ignored. Will definitely recommend the food

We had never dined at Riksha before and were amazed when we visited. The staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable. The meal was delightful and stylishly presented with authentic tastes and not with the usual hyped-up British "hotter the better" levels one often encounters. A great pleasure to have eaten there, thanks.

I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I am consistently going back to this restaurant for the service, the food and the overall atmosphere. The food is always just a cut above the rest, the staff are always professional to a fault. I can't say a bad word about Riksha. Such a wonderful addition to the selection of restaurants in Union Square. If you haven't been already, would highly recommend.

The service is impeccable, seated and served so fast. The staff are really friendly and answered any questions we had. The decor is really nice and refreshing and you most likely wont see anything similar in Union Square. Its vibrant, colourful and gives an authentic vibe. The atmosphere matched the decor. The food tasted amazing and was so filling. I fell in love with the first bite, it was so flavourful. For starters we had chilli fish and chicken pakoras. I was risking the chilli fish as I’m not a huge fan in general but this made me love it again. For main we got curries, rice and peshwari nan. The Peshwari nan was to die for, im yet to find anyway as good😍. We both wanted dessert but was too full, will definitely have next time. Would 100% recommend their mocktails, the mango was so good😍😍 you can also bring your own bottle of alcohol for 50p which is a bargain, not many places do that. 5/5 can’t recommend enough and will definitely be back! Its my new favourite! Cant wait to order more😋 They also offer delivery if you dont want to sit in restaurant. Its a must try.

Went here on a Saturday night expecting vibrant tasty food, oh dear, my wife had the scallops , they were the smallest scallops I’ve ever seen swimming around in a watery tasteless fluid, no taste at all , not nice, I had the chicken donuts again absolutely tasteless and presentation wise not good three small chicken balls with a sprinkling of lettuce no spices at all so bland tasting , for main I had the butter chicken was ok but really had as good from a jar, and again small portions, my wife had salmon, just not bursting with flavour seemed like the other dishes lacking any spices, just so disappointed, it was very busy, and we had an incredible long wait for service as well, I certainly won’t be returning, they really need to look at the dishes and make some changes otherwise I don’t see many return customers I’m afraid

Food was nice and well flavoured but beware if using any vouchers... Despite being online and advertising in their window as accepting the aberdeen gift card... They do not accept this currently. Moreover they can't process the union square shopping center cards either. This made for a very embarrassing situation as my 16 year old daughter tried to pay... Treating us for a post Christmas meal... And was told to provide abank card instead.... Must do better

We chose this place for lunch last week - we were intrigued by the menu at the door. The place was very quiet, which is always a bit worrying , but our fears were misplaced , as we enjoyed a fabulous lunch. The concept is Indian street food, so the menu is different from the normal pakora / rogan Josh type fare. For £8.95 you can choose from any starter and any main except seafood. Plus a rice or nan. The food came quickly ( important during lunch hour break ) and was delicious. Portion sizes just right for lunch. Service was good and my only gripe might be overly attentive. We were asked about 4 times if our meal was ok - once is fine! Perhaps this wouldn’t happen at busier times. Really hope this place survives as its something different for Aberdeen.

Went for a 3 course meal with my partner Lewis, all the dishes were amazing, light yet filling, succulent. Perfect portions, wish my stomach was bigger!

The wife and I had a great dinner in this lovely chic Indian restaurant in Aberdeen. The restaurant is located in the Union Square mall, and the staff is very nice and friendly. The food, which was delicious, was served very fast and efficiently.
