Great food, huge selection of games, reasonable prices, friendly staff. Great place to spend some time with or without the kids.

Came here for the board games expecting the food to be a side hustle, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality - excellent food, really tasty and reasonably priced. The waiting staff are friendly and helpful, and the board game selection is fantastic. Got a bit busy later on but the atmosphere was great. Will definitely be back!

Fantastic Saturday night out with friends. Great space and atmosphere, loads (mean LOADS) of game choices, great friendly and attentive staff (Stu was awesome) who are super helpful when you don’t know which game to choose. Food was really good with lots to choose from. Will definitely go again soon.

Two teenagers, getting them out the house always a struggle. But had lunch and board games at snacks and ladders and they came away full and smiling. Worth every penny.

Myself and two friends had a great visit here whilst on holiday. It’s slightly tricky to park nearby - but we found a car park a short walk away. The food was delicious and piping hot - the coffee is really good too. Staff are helpful. The place is very clean and well organised - we will definitely be coming again when we are in the IOW. It was a great venue to enjoy food and games on a wet afternoon.

I'm here almost every week and they never fail to deliver amazing food, fantastic service and a wonderful atmosphere. Snacks and ladders is everything you hope it will be and more! A great place for a meal, massive choice of games and amazing house cocktails. Highly recommend for a group night out or just a quick coffee! No matter what the purpose of the visit, you'll be welcomed by the delightful staff with a smile!

Great concept, went as the kids had vouchers as a gift. Food was good, can't remember how quick it arrived as we were all busy playing one of the many games that you can choose from. It ended up costing a small fortune so it's not somewhere we will go often which is a shame as it was good family entertainment.

Can't say enough of the good things! We were welcomed and attended to by Stu whose customer service is nothing short of excellent. He made us feel welcome from the moment we opened the door, when he greeted us straight away. We have not had any food but my milkshake was lovely. The place was kept very clean and there has been eye candies everywhere such as DnD dice, some smaller wooden puzzles etc. Very nice find and will definitely look into coming back when visiting Isle of Wight again.

An amazing experience as always. The food is really lovely, the staff are always helpful and friendly. The decor is really fun. Whether you are a glorious gaming geek, a family with young kids or just someone looking for a nice hang out with friends, this is a great way to spend a few hours. A favourite haunt of mine.

It had been recommended by some friends to come to this place as they had board games and we thought it would be great to meet up have a few coffees teas and hot chocolates with the kids and play some games as well. (There was 7 of us). We decided to get some dirty fries and pick and mix for the kids which we're good but have to say they we're a little slow to get out to us. The selection of games are good. We chose beat the parents which was fun. We stayed for about an hour and a bit ( parking meter ticking ) We got the bill and after assessment i will have to say this place is probably a good place for two. But Becomes way too expensive for family of 4+ :-( will got to pub next time

service couldnt be quicker, food couldnt be yummier, atmosphere couldnt have been greater, and what an amazing idea!! this place has a huge variety in drinks, ranging from simple drinks such as coke/water to boozy milkshakes (which are fantastic!), and the menu is broad as well, even having fun desserts such as building your own waffles. on top of this, they have the biggest and best board game collection ever! its loads of fun going there, and the food is great too.

A large Christmas menu 2 or 3 courses or other festive options available. Booking in advance for special Christmas menu needed. Good food but service slow when a big party but worth the wait for most.

Really nice place - a great group of staff who are chatty, happy and helpful. The food is very good and reasonably priced and the milkshakes are exceptional. All that alongside nearly every boardgame I've ever heard of and ones that I haven't - leads to a great place to spend time and to eat and drink! Highly recommended 6*

A party of friends went to have Christmas Dinner. The food was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful even though it was a busy night. Definitely will go back

Very unprofessional, got told to return to my table as they where having an issue with there charing, it came across as very rude as I had a lift arranged and they had to wait 20 mins whilst they tryed to sort it out. As well they had an issue with our tables order and it seamed like the staff where just lost and didn't have a clue what they where up to.

Hands down the best restaurant/bar on the IOW. The staff are amazing and friendly, helping you pick the perfect board game, choosing food and drinks and just being all round friendly. You pay a flat fare for entering the cafe to play games, you then pay an hourly rate to stay in the cafe, often if the cafe is quiet the staff won't charge you for access to the games! I had a pulled pork burger which was delicious. A must do on the IOW. 100% reccomend.

What an amazing selection of games!! Came here for a Halloween treat and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Drinks were well made and the crew were very helpful. The food is all made in air fryers which is really interesting and unique.

Food is perfectly nice but not the main attraction. A vast selection of games to play and makes a great competitive date night or evening with friends. Also, very dog friendly with sleepy mat provided and treats.

Great place, nice experience but food took almost an hour and wasn't that great. Very small portion sizes and burnt in places. Not impressed with the food but a very nice atmosphere.

What a find this place is! An enormous array of games available for young kids, teens and adults. We took our two boys (4+6) but could also easily come here for a date night (plenty of drinks choices and the cocktails looked amazing). Food selection was great, lots of options for people with varying dietary needs. My wife and son can't have dairy but had a choice of meals and an ice cream sundae/chocolate fudge cake. Recommend for anyone who fancies something different. Really good price too considering all we did/had.

Visiting the IoW and dropped in here on a wet afternoon. Brilliant decision! Whole family enjoyed their time there, loved the food/drinks and the range of games. Staff were amazingly friendly and happy to take their time with you. Thoroughly recommended.

Was my son's choice to try for his birthday the service was good lovely staff the games choices are very good ! However. Food wise and drink let it down. For me and my aunt both of us had a hunters chicken baguette and it was smothered in sauce. With hardly any meat both of us couldn't finish it and felt and Sick (so gutted) I also ordered fries ( as I'm fries lover) they were over cooked and tasted oven cooked I ate 3 😖😖 and none of the rest of my table wanted them Then drinks wise a few of us wanted dietCokes or Pepsi which they don't do .. no big deal but unusual these days . We will be coming back for the. Games and a drink but not to sure the foods our cup of tea can still taste the hunters source 😩😩

Honestly a lovely games cafe. The atmosphere and decorations are cosy and cute, the food was also super good and decent value. The vegan milkshakes were incredible! Would defo recommend a visit if you're in the area

This place is amazing! Stumbled across it when visiting Newport. So many games to choose from, and the milkshakes were incredible! Good value for money and the staff are so friendly and helpful. There were some good songs playing in the background too, the atmosphere was really fun. Will definitley visit again if in the area.

One of my most favourite destinations on the isle of wight! The board game cafe, snacks and ladders (love the pun of the name), is an extremely atmospheric, friendly and welcoming café in the isle of the wight. They have a selection of easily 100+ board games to choose from, your favourites such as buckaroo, guess who, monopoly and many many more! The cafe is extremely healthy, in that they use air fryers to cook their food which I find is healthier and tastes better. The service is very fast and they have a button on each table which calls the waiter/waitress. The cleanliness of the cafe is 10/10, no mess that I can find, the board games are in as pristine condition as they can be (they are used daily so expect ware and tear). They have tables for 2 people, 4 people and up to 8 people, so group play is perfectly fine herez and I would imagine that you can bring your own games for DND or your own speciality. They do also have just a small restaurant part at the front if you fancy just a bit of cake, burger, chips or a cup of tea. Overall, I would highly recommend this place, i have been here 3 times in a week and will come back again! Thanks to Kirsty with her lovely introduction to board game café!

Visited on an 80's themed night. Plenty of guests in the mood for it in various neon outfits, leg warmers and bad wigs which boosted the atmos. Staff were great, attentive and gave excellent service. They utilised a call button service but half the time I felt it really wasn't needed. The range of games is truly expansive, something for everyone, and it does make the night fly by. With the themed night there was an 80's music quiz and music intro's bingo, so effectively the whole establishment playing the same game, it got competitive but in a light hearted way. So if there is another themed night, or indeed, if you're at a loose end any night of the week, it's a way better time than any pub, you will guaranteed leave with a big ol' smile on your face and enjoyed somewhere where everyone left happy. Oh, and the food and cocktails are pretty banging too.

I highly recommend booking in advance before visiting this cafe. When entering, I was warmly greeted by the staff and immediately impressed. The seating area was impeccably presented, a serene and comfortable atmosphere. The menu had a diverse and distinctive selection of items, all reasonably priced. The cafe's extensive collection of board games provided excellent value, with a charge of only £2 per person for an hour of play. I strongly encourage everyone to visit this cafè at least once, it's great!

It is an excellent place to spend an evening with friends or a partner. There is a friendly and jovial atmosphere, and the food is wonderful. They serve perhaps the best cocktails in Newport, and I would recommend 'The Happy Little Accident'. There is a large selection of exciting games suitable for players ranging from amateur to expert, and it is nice to know they are properly cleaned between uses. My partner and I attend regularly when we wish to unwind after a long week.

It's become a bit of a family tradition. 3rd year coming to the IoW and Snacks and Ladders as our last evening before heading home is a favourite way to finish off. Always great food and super friendly service. Now into new, larger premises (still on the high street) but still a great place to visit. Definitely book as it is always busy.

An excellent place to come, especially when it is raining. A huge selection of games, very friendly staff and good food. The chicken burger was brilliant, the deserts were also huge and good value.

Unfortunately not the best experience, only could compare to another game cafe we had been to elsewhere. Our waitress seemed like she didn’t want to be there (considering it’s a game board cafe we would have liked a more friendly experience) the food was bland and chips weren’t cooked fully, all just taken from the freezer and put in an air fryer, (however air frying was stated on the menu) Would have been much more enjoyable if the staff interacted with us a bit more considering we went during a quiet spell.

This place is brilliant. Spent 3 hours playing board games and eating food. Staff are friendly and even though it was a Saturday evening the atmosphere was family friendly.

We had never been to anything like this before but decided to book as it was due to be a rainy afternoon. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday! We could have sat in there all day. Food is lovely and reasonably priced, staff are really kind and helpful. Spoilt for choice in terms of games on offer. We will definitely be back!

What a great place to have something to eat with a boardgames, even if you are 'Billy no mates' like I was tonight.

Brilliant place. I have seen people talk about it before but we had never gotten round to visiting. I am so glad we did! Great menu. We was spoilt for choice. We was welcomed by friendly staff who explained how to use the cafe. There is a huge choice of games and everything was in great condition to enjoy. The atmosphere is lovely and we all really enjoyed our visit. Definitely recommend!

All the negative reviews here seem to have completely misunderstood the concept of a "board game cafe". This place has a fantastic collection of games, is significantly cheaper for a couple of hours play than any of the board game cafes nearer my home town in the Midlands, and the food was excellent too. Definitely worth a visit, we'll certainly be back the next time we're on Wight.

Awesome place. We went with our twin 3 yr olds. Great food, huge menu, lovely staff, and they even had some toys to amuse the kids while we found some proper games to play with them and ordered our drinks & food.

Really excellent and highly recommended. I've been to a few board game cafes over the last five years or so, and Snacks and Ladders really stands out - I wish they were the template used by all the others! The aesthetic is great, and avoids the "nerd cave" feel of many competitors, the staff are lovely, and the selection of games on offer is *very* good - ranging from simple card games good for a short lunch, all the way up to complex big-box games that a group of friends can enjoy for a whole evening with some drinks - and everything in between. I really appreciated that the kitchen area is visible through a broad opening near the games, meaning you can tell the hygiene standards are excellent, and that there's nothing to hide about the food prep area. The menu is markedly better than competitors i have visited on the mainland, with lots of options for great food, shakes, boba teas, and many adult choices of beverage. I also want to call out how accommodating the menu is to both vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters, with great ranges for each. Really enjoyed our time here, and will look forward to returning again and again. Thanks to S&L for a great afternoon out :)

If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would, I came for my birthday today and every single person was so friendly and the food/drinks were lush! I couldn’t recommend this place enough, I didn’t catch our main servers name but he was incredibly lovely, funny and helpful! Amazing customer service from everyone, thankyou for making my day!

Have returned to S&L a number of times since they moved to their new premises, and always leave full and contented. The provision for dogs is excellent, water available, and you can borrow a dog bed. The food is consistently very good, amendments and allergies are managed sensitively and they always get the details spot on. Extensive game selection and well organised, if you’re not sure what to play they make excellent recommendations. Organised events like D&D one shots run a few times a month, and they’re absolutely brilliant. Everything about S&L seems to have been really well thought out, the staff are warm and outgoing, and the whole experience is always a real pleasure.

S&L is always excellent. We’ve been there for meals out, birthday celebrations, D&D one-shots, and just about every other reason you could imagine, and we always have a good time. Very dog friendly, exceptional staff, and consistently great food. Always worth a visit!

My partner and I have been coming here every week since Winter in 2022 for their weekly Dungeons and Dragons nights, and we LOVE it! The food is delicious and the service is always excellent! Big shout out to Stu for always so welcoming. I have some specific dietary requirements and there is never an issue with small changes being made to the food. The one time we had an issue with a meal, we were refunded with no questions asked. I'd thoroughly recommend this place to anyone. Even if you're not interested in board games, the food and lovely atmosphere make this place 100% worth a visit.

If you like to spend some quality time with your partner/family or friends and also want to play some indoor games, you can try it. I enjoyed a lot with my family here, they provided good stuff and desired games. If you want to go there make a advance booking to get a comfortable table, however we visited unplanned but found a table.

We came across this lovely cafe while visiting Newport. It's just up the road from the bus station. We were first very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and then continued to be delighted with our lunch. The prices are very reasonable, lots of choice and the quality of the food was good. The cafe offers a huge selection of board games to enjoy while you are there . Our dog was made very very welcome with, not only a a bowl of water, but a sausage too. The staff even provided us with a cusion bed for our dog to rest on. I honestly couldn't have asked for more. We highly recommend that you visit this delightful little cafe .

Popped in for a bite to eat on my way home, greeted by really friendly staff and made to feel welcome from the start. Food was fab, can thoroughly recommend the chicken and bacon pizza made by Brandon. The front of house staff Stu and Jade were fab and really chatty and made me feel really welcome as I was on my own. Would definitely recommend this board game cafe for both food and also the huge choice of board games as well.

Absolutely lovely venue, super family friendly in the day and a great evening hangout for the grownups! The team really care that visitors have a good time and cannot do enough to make sure we are looked after. My teenage daughter has been playing Dungeons & Dragons in one of the weekly clubs and my 10 year old loves to play the boardgames... I'm in it for the iced coffee and amazing cakes (warm cookie pie is hard to beat). We are also all a little obsessed with the Boba Tea! A much needed place for everyone, keep up the good work .

Great place to visit. Discovered some new favourite games - recommend Rhino Hero if looking to get away from a more traditional style board game. Menu has a range of options from snacks to more substantial food and also have nice cake selection. Love the milkshakes and they also have vegan milk/creams available. Crunchie coup milkshake made with oat milk is my current favourite. Worth visiting just for food if you don't fancy playing games. Staff friendly and always happy to help with menu or game suggestions. Like that the tables have buttons you can press to let staff know what you want to order something. When I visited with a larger group we were given individual tabs which made it really easy for everyone to pay their way at the end of the night.

Had a wonderful time here. We visited here while on hols because the weather wasn't good and we were looking for somewhere to spend a few hours before dinner. We booked a 2 hour slot as we love playing board games but ended up staying for dinner and an extra 2 hours. All the food and drink was of a very high quality, particularly the hand stretched pizzas. All the staff are incredibly friendly. We considered visiting again the following afternoon but it was fully booked!

Cannot say enough good things about this inclusive fun space for everyone. Table fees are very fair, decreasing in price the longer you stay. Help yourself to the very wide selection of games, from family favourites to more hardcore offers. Staff happy to help choose too. And the food is much better than expected. They could get away with frozen junk but instead they choose to use local produce and cooked fresh to order. Brilliant local business.

Great atmosphere and food. The guy that served us was rather peppy for a Wednesday evening but I'll have what he's having for the enthusiasm and energy he had. Will definitely visit again.

We chose Snacks and Ladders for our works Christmas get together as wanted something different from the usual meal and music venue. We could chat, have a laugh and enjoyed lots of different snacks that kept coming. Games created a fun atmosphere. Great value. Fab cocktails too.

Absolutely amazing! Came here on a Saturday evening and before we knew it my friend and i had stayed for over 3 hours. A huge array of games, the food was delicious with seperate Menus for vegan and gluten free, with a VARIETY OF CHOICE which is rare! For 3 hours of games, food,snacks, milkshake and drinks we spent £21 each. Not a single fault for Snacks and Ladders and we are already arranging to come back. Thank you :)

We visit this place every year on holiday and it is always busy. It has a really good selection of games. We always take the advise of staff on what to play and they never steer us wrong. Booking is essential as it gets busy and booked up quick. We had pizza, flatbreads and milkshakes which were all freshly prepared, good portions and really nice. Its such a good venue for families - a must do when on the island!
