Great local/ community chippy. The haddock in particular was excellent, as were the chips. Fairly standard prices but very good portions. What more do you want?

A welcome treat for our arrival in Belford. Extremely busy but good tasty fish and chips, although I thought the batter was a little thick. I'm not moaning and ate it all up!

Had the most amazing Fish and chips during our stay in Belford. The fish was fresh and tasty and not greasy, the chips were cooked in beef dripping and were incredible. The portion sizes are enormous. The place was constantly busy with people telephoning orders which proves how popular it is. We enjoyed them so much that we had them again a few nights later. Very clean place and very friendly staff also really reasonable priced at 8.50. A lot cheaper than the 12.50 being charged in Seahouses and a lot tastier and fresher too. Highly recommended

We drove from Wooler as the reports sounded very good, of which we were not disappointed as the staff were cheerful and chatty. we ordered Cod & Chips but was told it was only Haddock. Well, we were very surprised at how big the fish was in a light, thin batter with plenty of chips. Thank you, JOHN DORY Fish & Chips

As fish and chip shops go, it is great. Its not for everyone however. My wife is a veggie, and the chips and fish here are cooked in good old fashioned Lard. So not for her, but oh it does so add to the flavour. We went twice in one week (well we were on holiday) and as promised by one or the regular customers, the portions were BIG! And they do battered haggis and also spam fritters, just like I remember as a Kid. Oh my I loved the food here. Yes there is sometimes a wait, but its not too much to ask for great fresh food. You can pre-order if thats what you want to do. They close relatively early is my only negative comment, but why not. The staff have lives too.

Lovely chips and a huge fish with crispy batter. Burger was nice, with salad. I will be bearing this chippy in mind again if passing.

We called for fish and chips on Saturday 9th September whilst value for money price wise they really weren't as although the haddock was tasty the batter was doughy and the chips were hard as though they had been reheated. Very disappointed unfortunately won't be going back.

Totally loved the haggis and chips; back down south now but it’s totally worth going home just to pick some haggis a chips up on the way through😘

Lovely meal but be prepared to wait quite a while at busy times. We waited over 40 minutes for our food on the Friday evening we visited.

We went to Belford this last week for a self catering holiday, the first night we decided to have the local fish and chips , what a great discussion. They were very busy when we got there , always a good sign but the staff were very organised , and everything was cooked fresh.The food was spot on , the portions generous, and we commented how nice they were , we enjoyed them so much we had them the last night of our stay . Well done

Lovely chips, and according to my parents, the fish was nice and crispy. The burgers and haggis got good reviews from the family as well. We had a big order and everyone eating enjoyed their meal. We will likely be back again before the end of our visit! I couldn't really see many options for vegetarians like me, there was really just chips/chips and cheese/roll and chips, but the chips were lovely, and the portions were generous.

I went here because of positive tripadvisor reviews. Obviously a Friday night is going to be busy – and it was. There were about eight people waiting outside when I arrived so I thought I wouldn't have long to wait. Wrong. Most custom seems to come by telephone orders (in fact, one was collected as I was being served at a cost of £84). I can't blame JD for this as it's obviously popular with locals in-the-know. My overall waiting time was 25 min. I'm used to be able to choose small, medium or large fish. I'm also used to being able to choose between cod, haddock, scampi etc. Not here. It's just fish and chips. I don't even know what kind of fish. Decent sized portions for a reasonable price. I found some of the chips were little undercooked – I suspect they were rushing through because they were so busy. The fish (whatever it was) was okay but not better than that. I found the batter crisp but too heavy for my liking, rather greasy and detracted from the taste of the fish. I won't be rushing back.

Is this the best Fish and Chips we have had ? well I am struggling to think of anywhere better. Great pre-ordering facility, very friendly staff, easy, free, parking. And the product is fabulous.

What a find this takeaway was! The only fish they sell is haddock, but it was big, freshly cooked and delicious. My husband had scampi, which he also enjoyed very much. The price was very reasonable, too - much cheaper than "down south".

This fish and chippy has done me a favour. It’s put me off fish and chips forever. Yes the service was pleasant apart from staff being trapped behind plastic screen. The service was also relatively fast. However the food was decidedly unpleasant. Chips cold, haddock, because that was the only option, was a small dried up offering under a layer of, surprisingly, very good batter. We won’t be using them again. This close to the sea we expected more but this is one for the experience bank. Clearly many people do enjoy it.

I have seen reviews for this fish and chip shop, so I thought I'd try it. Can't complain about the portion sizes, fish and chips enough for 2 people and the haggis and chips was also large. The only thing was the batter on the fish, it was thick and very doughy. Fish tasted lovely and fresh.

An all-time classic. Great servings of fresh, good quality fish in a proper batter and decent helpings of chips. Not complete without the curry sauce. The people here are lovely and some real characters. I visit every time that I’m in the area.

There was a large queue but that was no reflection on the service but a mark of the quality. The fish and chips were delicious and the scampi was the best I have ever eaten. The staff were incredibly friendly and the prices were reasonable considering the size of the portions. Everything is cooked fresh so there is a slight wait but in my opinion completely worth it. Highly recommended.

Get your fish n chips from here, it's great. Portions are large and great value for money, fish and chips arent at all greasy, and the fish had loads on it. Peas and curry sauce was both great and only 50p! Best I've had up this way. Expect a wait because it's so popular, but defo worth it.

Visited for fish and chips on Saturday evening, quite a queue outside which we took as a good sign! Ordered and were told there was a 15min wait but our order was ready within 10mins. We were not disappointed, food was piping hot, chips were cooked well and the fish was fresh and just the perfect flakiness and crispy batter that we wanted. Very reasonable prices for the portions, we will definitely stop here again.

Stopped at this little gem on the way back from seahouses, must be the best fish and chips ever 😋 my brother said that they where that good he would travel from wigan every Friday for the fish and chips . I can't describe how good the fish was ,amazing.

We've been visiting Seahouses now for over 12 yrs, normally we go to one of the fish and chip shops there, however the last time we did in April 2022, we we disappointed not only in the portion sizes but the price was quite frankly extortionate. We decided to find an alternative so looked at various options and then remembered about this one, so we viewed the menu and saw the reviews and photos people had put on. So tonight we went to Belford, the wife went to order, there was a bit of a queue, but she was back in the car in less than 10 minutes, the smell wafting from the bag was mouthwatering, we arrived back at our place in Seahouses and opened up our packages, oh wow, the portions were very generous indeed, we had regular fish and chips with a pot of curry sauce and steak pie with chips and a pot of mushy peas, and a large sausage for the dogs, all with change from £15, a lot different to the £30 for the same order from in Seahouses (not naming but it's the one on the roundabout), well done John Dory your food was absolutely perfect, we all enjoyed it very much and are definitely converts, for the sake of a 10 minute drive you won't be disappointed,oh and my wife said the ladies serving were lovely and friendly. We will 100% be back.

Second time we went there the staff are so nice and helpful and nothing is too much trouble with the different requests, very good prices of all the various meals and drinks The hours vary we found Fridays were best for us and we ate our fish and chips in the car nearby in the countryside what could be better😊😊😊👍👍👍

We were at South Meadows read many reviews some bad but mostly good, went on Friday dinner time, if I d known I could have bought fish and chips once to share between me and the wife as were pensioners now, but I did what I do, two fish, one bag of chips two cartons of mushy peas,, fish massive beautiful and great batter really enjoyed them would recommend to anyone, next time we're back will be sure to visit again

Large Haddock and Chips and Haggis and Chips. Perfect. Not greasy. Tasty. Enough to satisfy two hearty appetites. And eaten at the tables to the rear of the old club 100m along the road. It can't get any better.

Probably only busy as it's the only chippy in the vicinity...should have gone to the co-op and cooked! Staff were friendly, food was awful.

Very disappointing fish and chips

Two stars might be generous! Was so looking forward to these fish and chips as the ratings on Google were good and we had a local recommendation. How disappointing, fish batter totally came away from the fish, the chips were cold and soggy. There was more flavour in the pickled onion than there was in any of this supper. The fish was flavourless but it was meaty. It shouldn't be difficult to make good fish and chips but this was a poor attempt. Gutted 😔

Kebab was burned and hard ' water filled bain Marie would fix this , chips were undercooked and too much mint sauce in the chilli , any mint sauce in chilli is too much , I've worked in kebab shops for years and the take a ticket and stand outside system while two staff struggle to keep all the balls in the air is crazy to be honest , not the best way to make a name for yourselves , I won't be back !!!

The best chips ever... seriously the food here is just simply the best I have ever tasted. Which is a nightmare because I don't live here!! I visit Belford on a monthly basis so that's just going to have to do. If you are traveling on the A1 and would like the best " chippy tea" ever..just take the Belford turning..and it's just opposite the co-op.

Tried the local delicacy of fish and chips and scampi and chips. Fish was well cooked, crispy batter and not overcooked inside. Scampi is large and well cooked. The chips were a bit anaemic, could have done with longet in the frier or at a slightly hotter temperature. Still perfectly edible though. Only fish and chip shop or possibly takeaway in Belford so it does get busy. Only opens for 3 hours in the evening so ring through your order or be prepared to wait at busy times. I waited 15 mins, not too bad.

A very popular place so queues are likely but you order and get a numbered ticket then wait to be called. Orders can also be placed by phone for collection. Portion size and quality of food are both excellent and prices are very reasonable. Would recommend

Better on fish felt not fully cooked through. Portion sizes not that large compared to other takeaways. Haggis wasn't as good as I've had elsewhere, but was still enjoyable.
