Lovely venue, down some stairs at the Dorset Square hotel. Nearly walked past it. Had the prawn and avocado starter, chicken schnitzel and chips, crème brûlée & shortbread all perfect and the service was great too. Only just realised they hadn’t included a service charge. :(

Disappointing I ate here midweek with an old school friend on a Wednesday lunchtime a few weeks ago. The restaurant was quiet, only a quarter full, and we had a lovely meal, at a spacious table for two, served in a timely fashion, with good service and food. I raved about the restaurant to my partner and so I booked it again for today. Today however, Saturday, there was only one waitress on duty for both the bar and restaurant area when we arrived, and the service was incredibly slow. We arrived at 6pm, our starter didn’t appear until 6.45, and the main course eventually at 7.30. We had no cutlery for the main course and despite asking for it, I eventually had to take a set from a nearby table before our food got too cold. By this time we’d lost our appetite and I didn’t finish my meal . The restaurant wasn’t even particularly busy (three quarters full) but the waitress placed us on a table squeezed closely by a door that led into the hotel. This meant our table being continually nudged by guests from the hotel as they entered the restaurant. The waitress apologised for the slow service and said that it was because we’d unfortunately chosen the busiest day of the week there!! Disappointing as the bar and restaurant ambience is very nice and clearly when only a quarter full, the staff can cope effectively with demand in the restaurant. We may just have been unlucky with our allocated table and timing, but I would certainly never go back there again at the weekend. A quiet midweek lunch is definitely a safer option.

Intimate spot for a decent bite to eat - and you'll actually be able to hear what your fellow diners are saying. Special kudos for the bar service: in our case, impeccable Negronis and Gin & Tonic served with generous bar snacks. Food is not fancy - essentially posh pub grub, but well done and pricing is ok. A very useful find in a quiet part of the city. (note: we loved the RikRak by Kit Kemp hand soap in the loos and ordered some immediately!)

We held a celebratory lunch here on a weekday afternoon, and from the initial planning stage with the manager Luca, through to the actual day itself when Giulia and her team attended to us, the whole experience was exceptional. We could not have found the staff more accommodating, helpful and responsive. The quality of the three-course lunch was superb, and the cocktails were mixed to perfection. The Potting Shed has clearly met the very high standards it has set itself. We shall definitely be coming back again.

The potting shed is an interesting bar/restaurant with an interesting cricket history. The barmaid was an absolute 'ode to joy'. I was bowled over. Get it? Because of the cricket theme? Oh you’ve not been and considering it due to this review. Firstly, I was left with a huff and a giggle after transcending down the stairs and listening to a scouse family behind me. It was quite a thrill to see the surroundings of the restaurant (with a softly pronounced t). The menu. I was knocked out - I almost ran out of the restauran to scream with delight. The hash browns were lovely and the continental break was fine, although I’m surprised we still serve this after the referendum. A family nearby was American and the family to the left Belgiek. Belch. I’m not sure what the right term is. I left with a fully tummy and an exceptionally light wallet so so be aware. The 12.5% add on to the bill was surprising and somewhat erotic given my company glanced at me with longing eyes. Thank you for a great experience.

So if,like me, you arrive around 9.45 on a Sunday There were no staff to greet or seat me ; other customers commented that service was slow. I stood around at the door downstairs in the entrance then after searching for someone to serve me I left. What I saw of breakfast looked good to me but without service I'll never know. For those familiar with any of the associated with Firmdale restaurants, the look and character are similar. Lunch offered a calm atmosphere with most diners suiting the setting of Dorset Square. With the restaurant set at basement level, this offered a quieter invitation. A mixture of hotel guests, and diners seemed to enjoy attendance from staff. Myself, greeted with a smile and served attentively, I enjoyed fish, followed by a Lapsang tea, with the adjacent diners enjoying an afternoon tea. Only let down was a loud male sat on a conference call at one of the larger tables.

This is a place where you get robbed easily. Low quality food combined with low quality service, and this all is for a fortune. I see it is one of the favourites of Tripadvisor, but I have no idea why. We intended to have a traditional British breakfast there. When the staff in service realised that we also needed toast the breakfast had already got cold. The portion was meagre compared to the price, the used raw material was cheap and the late toast was burnt. The only positive thing I can point out that the toilet was very tidy. You'd better avoid this place. Some cheap traditional pubs offer much more.

It's easy to walk past this bar and restaurant because it is below street level. It is attached to the Dorset Square Hotel, a short walk from Marylebone Station and Baker Street tube station, and is between the two of them. I have walked past it for years and years and never gone down there, which is a shame because it's a very nice cosy place to get a drink or a meal. It isn't very big so if you want to be sure of a table then I would recommend booking at busy times. The service was friendly, polite, and efficient. Our dishes were very nicely cooked and very nicely presented. It isn't the cheapest place to eat, but then it is in the West End so that shouldn't come as a shock and overall, taking everything into account, I felt it was good value for money for an upmarket restaurant in this part of London. I will definitely be stopping here again as I head back to Marlyebone Station in the evenings.

Came for an intimate birthday meal and loved the atmosphere, with the classical guitarist playing all night (I believe this is just on Tuesdays) that perfectly set the scene. Everything was reasonably expensive, but that was expected given the location. We had the sharing board as a starter which was great - bruschetta, squid, duck rolls, cheese and crackers. The bruschetta was particularly tasty, and very fresh. For main, the chicken and ham hock pie was good, but it had a very dense filling not like a cream sauce as I expected. The side of spinach was ok but not as flavourful as everything else.
