Bustling real ale bar with a fantastic selection all in of which were in great form with very polite and informative staff

First time coming here with my mom today and the entertainment Colin Jones was fabulous loved all the songs his voice was amazing and played his guitar with such professionalism. Definitely will go back again and it made my birthday also loved the cocktails and the mocktails.

Really lovely pub, always got new and interesting ales, ciders, and stouts to try :)

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it, nice well kept beer I had the Nitro stout plenty of seating and a very nice vard at the back. Just what I like in a micro pub

Lovely family environment. We visited with our boys and was instantly met by friendly staff. Once seated we where met by front of house who took our drinks order and then left us to continue to have a look at the menu, within 5 min we where ready and our order was taken. We took the slime package for the boys and it was very well organised, the slime was excellent… very surprised as the slime was the best I have seen and the boys had some much fun. Wow we ordered the waffles with banana, strawberry’s, Ice cream and chocolate sauce! It was absolutely delicious. My elderly mother who’s a coffee snob said her coffee was lovely and we would defiantly recommend coming again. Loads of activities to do and seeing other customer engaging in painting and crafts will have us coming back to try some more. Boys want to come back to build a Bear. See you soon.

A day of what I thought would be great fun for the kids making slime turned into a lot of waiting, unknowns and leaving the place upset. Had booked a table previously through messenger and on arrival felt like we weren’t booked in. Given a table and waited a good 10-15 mins before a menu was even given. Then waited another 10 minutes till order taken. To then wait again another 20-30 mins before the slime activity started where then we just told to put this in, stir and left to own device. With a 3 and 5 year old this was all testing their patience. Especially the 3 year old. On top of all these waits, we saw other tables with children be offered glitter and shaving foam (at time had no idea why). We finally got offered the shaving foam but again left to just mix having not made slime before. But no glitter given even though I have boys they still love glitter. I had to ask for the crepes to be made asap at this point as I had lost the concentration of my 3 year old and my 5 year old wanted to do the other activities included in the summer package but the waiting times were beyond a joke for such young people. I also ordered a sundae with the boys package and had to ask for that to be made where by this point it wasn’t wanted anymore but felt bad cancelling it. When asked for tubs like the other tables for the slime to go in got told ran out. When someone did come to the venue with spare tubs no one came over and offered us any. Finally when paying as I wanted to get out as fast as possible there didn’t seem to be any niceties from the front of house staff if they could see that I was struggling. My boys have a love for slime and I thought the idea of making it at a place that has exceptional reviews would be brilliant for a treat especially as an added bonus they get to enjoy milkshakes and crepes. But it did not live up to those expectations and left feeling like I’d lost my money, my positivity on coping in situations of long waits with young kids and my patience. I felt as though we were not meant to be there and were a hindrance. I hardly ever write reviews but felt as though this one is needed today because of how it all went and don’t see how 5 stars have been given. Crepes - lovely. Milkshake - thick and tasty. Activities on offer - fabulous and brilliant ideas. But the service and how the day went was not a positive for us. I find myself saying that I couldn’t and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone that I know. But I hope it was just a bad day for me and my family.

Had my daughter's 6th birthday here on Sunday. We chose the Pamper Party. I initially thought the price was a bit steep but honestly it is money well spent! We have only ever done parties at home but I am definitely a convert! It was super easy, as they literally took care of everything! They worked really hard the whole time and the girls loved all the activities. The festival hair looked fantastic and the food was perfect! Would definitely recommend!

Brilliant place for cask beers, large variety of gins and cocktails. In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. No TV no jukebox just conversation and a bit of banter with the staff. Dog friendly too. There is live entertainment on Sunday Afternoon for a couple of hours which is very busy and booking a table is recommended. This little gem of a place on Market Street, Abergele has been in the Good Beer Guide for 4 years running.

Absolutely fantastic, easily my favourite micropub in the UK. The barman is brilliant, excellent customer service, really helpful. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic drink. My recommendations are the Kia Kaha, D.H.B and the Blorenge, but in all honesty it's all going to be amazing.

Beer, gin and atmosphere was amazing and we were loving it,however one of the bar maids was a little short with my partner to do with certain things. This could have been completely innocent but we though it was a little unwelcoming and left after a couple of drinks.

What a difference a few years makes and a change of premises. Today my family had a slime party at the Sugar Den and after a few problem a few years ago this time the party was so well done A BIG THANK YOU Angela and girls your were great my grandaughter had a great time you were hands on and so helpful i could not fault anything., I would more than be happy to recommend

This is something different. Although a diabetic and ADHD nightmare of a restaurant, it is very unique with something for everyone. I must admit though the service is very slow. For a special treat or a birthday party it is ideal, with special activities. There are 50 flavours of milkshake but I had to pick the one that was unavailable. The panini's and toasties were delicious and so hot. There is a lot of choice in hot and cold snacks and drinks. For a special occasion, it is ideal.

I've been to a lot of craft beer bars around the UK, Europe and beyond, of course its not the best but for its location and what they're trying to do its a 5* place. Straddled by 2 old classic pubs opposite, The Harp & The George & Dragon, they've taken the bold step of introducing independent breweries to an area that really only has guest cask at best. Really good value and a nice range from lager to cask to IPAs and ciders. Local and community brewers on board so they haven't gone down the route of stocking £12 cans shipped from around the country and sold at a premium and pricing locals out, they've started small and offer Tetleys and Lagers you'll find in most pubs. I didn't sample their Gin but they had an impressive selection. I wish them all the best, hope it catches on and leads to more independents having a go at something new.

We always like coming to the Sugar Den as it's something different for the kids. This time, as it was in the middle of the summer holidays, it took longer than usual to get served but that's to be expected. Also, I think it would be good if staff explained the offers (such as the deal for £12) when they come over to take the initial order as not everything is written on the menu. The food was yummy as always and the staff were really friendly!

Great choice of beers and largers, great service and low prices. Nothing not to like.

We were holidaying near-by and had booked this for my partners daughters birthday, on our last day of the holiday. We were welcomed in with smiles of joy by the staff. We were seated and our orders were taken, with the staff paying extra attention to the kids. They were allowed to pick their own pots to be painted rather than be given a "standard everyone gets the same" pot. They were also given a jar to decorate (and later fill with sweets) a desert (crepe or pancake with a choice of topping) and an ice cream. The kids loved it and we loved seeing them so happy. If you are in this neck of the woods and want something for the kids definitely check this place out.

My daughter had her 7th birthday party today at the Sugar Den. It was a unicorn themed event, the children had lots of fun activities to do and a lovely afternoon tea consisting of sandwiches, crisps, fruit and cakes. This was followed by ice cream and they also had unicorn slushes/milkshakes too! All the children had a fantastic time and the party was hosted by a lovely lady who organised all the children so I could sit back and have a delicious milkshake myself! I would highly recommend the Sugar Den as a childrens party venue to anyone, there are so many different themes to choose from to suit boys and girls and they're really good value for money. We will certainly be visiting again soon!

I cant recommend this place enough, I take my 9 month old to messy play whenever I can. She absolutely loves all the different textures to play in and meeting other babies to make a mess with. I can't wait until she's older so we can try other things like paint a pot, slime making and build a bear. Staff are always friendly and always there to help, delicious food and drinks too.

MY DAUGHTER booked here on 23/02 for a 5 year olds party and she paid WELL OVER £300 for a party where the little kiddies would design there own T shirts with fabric pens and the few pens they did have were clearly not enough for the children and some were in a bad state and just crumbled on the t shirts and child ! well as there was no space for parents to stand behind their kiddies and some were only 4 years old the kids were pretty much left to it, parents went to another room off the back and a few of us quoshed around the door/counter area , YOUNGSTERS PARTY OUTFITS AND FABRIC PENS and we had a lot of mess on outfits and hands and not a wipe or cleaning cloth in sight if they cant deal with the younger ones they should state an approprate age and as they had a few staff at the shop to though they focused more on a separate room with parents that had paid for another activity while there other kiddes were at the said party ,ONE very stressed unhelpful young woman was all we had for alot of children and she did not help with the Tshirts as a Grandma we were left to deal with all kiddies it was a Total JOKE .On arriving party games had started if you call it that and the prizes were a few loose jelly beans put on a paper plate and passed out to the said winning children and get this put back BEHIND THE COUNTER left on the paper plate on top of the jelly bean tub for the next party following my grandaughters no doubt as they rushed to get us out at the end! They had the bags with sweets and cake linned nicely on the floor PEOPLE WERE USING TOILETS AND WALKING ON THAT FLOOR so bad as lack of space! My DAUGHTER PAID EXTRA FOR THE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN FOR WHICH THE YOUNG CHILDREN WERE GIVEN A WOODEN POINTED KEBAB TYPE SKEWER WITH A COUPLE OF MARSHMALLOWS ON IT AS THEY WERE LEAVING MELTED CHOCOLATE PUT IN A NAPKIN EVERYTHING THEY DID WAS DONE LATE AS WERE WERE RUSHED OUT FOR ANOTHER PARTY IT WAS A SHAMBLES ,GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF A YOUNG CHILD HAD BEEN PUSHED OR TRIPPED AS THEY WERE TRYING TO EAT THEM ON THE WAY PAST THE CRAMPED TABLE THAT RAN MOSTLY THE LENGTH OF THE SHOP.. I forgot to mention the food 4 platters of sandwiches,small iced cakes that looked just like the aldi cheapy ones ,half a bag of cheesy puffs ..Yes a good half the young girl put out beside me and half a bag of salt and vinegar twists the other half no doubt again for the next party that followed on 3 kiddies and they had gone,oh and not to mention a paultry few raspberries and haf cut strawberries and they went one end of a long table so my grandchildren never saw them! It was rushed and unorganised from start to finish the pin the bow on the lol was being done while kiddies were been told to sit down and eat so they either had a bit of food or the game.The only time i saw more than one member of staff was when they were clearing the table for the next party while some kiddies were still having icecream now you see it now you dont i think was there mission I feel for my daughter who came out of the shop near to tears while wanting to a nice party for my grandaughter that it was not !! I am lucky enough to work in a Health and Safety area where i am hopping that they can look into some of The Sugar Dens safety Issues. I am not sorry to report a shop that the wooden Skewers alone if it stops one child from injuring themselves.. VERY UNHAPPY GRANDMA AND SAME SAID FOR MY DAUGHTER..........

Took my nearly 2 year old here, she had a great time painting a pot and decorating a sweet jar. She even got pancake and a slush drink included in the price. The staff are always lovely, even when the toddler made a huge mess!

Excellent selection of ales and at a fair price

Our 2 kids aged 11 and 12 had such a great time painting pots and making cuddly toys, that they begged to back the next day for Slime and Dine! What a fantastic place, they do everything kids wish for all under one roof. We left them in the capable hands of the girls working there and it worked a dream. Couldn't recommend them high enough, this is their favourite place to go every weekend if they can!

We have a g n t 6.30 ish it's very friendly with a good selection of gins and a bowl of water for the dog . Civilised and relaxing, love it.

We visit the sugar den with our 3 children. They are 2yrs 7yrs and 13yrs so to find somewhere that they all enjoy at the same time is hard to find. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left they had the most wonderful time. The lady was absolutely lovely so genuine and kind and brilliant with the children. The crafts were excellent and the desserts milkshakes and sweets are the best we have every tried. A*****

The Hoptimist was a welcome discovery whilst camping just up the road over Easter bank holiday. Great beer and very friendly staff, along with a pleasant laid back atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Well worth a visit (or two) if you're in the area.

My daughter had a fantastic time making slime today. The staff were very friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. We went quite late in the day so were unable to eat, but the food smelled delicious and we will deffo be back to try the waffles and ice cream The price for making the slime was reasonable and my daughter got to make it however she wanted and take it home with her afterwards. You do need to book as it gets fairly busy, but they are easy to contact via their facebook page, reply consistently and are flexible if you are running late for your booking as I was.

An excellent place to visit for coffee food or parties even pet friendly the staff are amazing cant help you enough the parties are awesome so much too choose from they go out of there way to accomodate you rven close the shop to hold private partys food and service is presenter hot and with a smile only thing i have to say is please we need a bigger shop to make partys bigger well done best place in abergele

As always a warm friendly welcome, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. My children love it her for parties or just to enjoy one of their yummy pancakes or fun filled milkshakes! Not just for kids though.., adults need the sugar fix too .. highly recommend here and their party packages are awesome and great prices..

Jam packed full of fun from start to finish. We were actually the lucky winners of a very generous prize give away of a birthday party of our choice for up to 8 children Our girl has been such a lucky little lady!! We first visited The Sugar Den in Novemeber 2017 when my little boy was around 9 months old. From that first visit we were made to feel welcome, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are great with the kids and its good to know I can take my 2 year old out for lunch and he can safely wonder around without the confines of a highchair and without feeling judged for letting him run riot. They always go the extra mile, whether a birthday cake at messy play for my boys 1st birthday, snowman shaped sandwiches in the kids lunch box at christmas to providing a colouring book and crayons when I popped in for a quick coffee and my toddler was having an all scale melt down (obviously the one time I forget to bring his changing bag and toys!). I will always recommend The Sugar Den to all ages, it not just for kids, the service is great and theres sure to be something on the menu for everyone.

We have visited the sugar den on a number of occasions. We are always greeted in a friendly manner. The staff are lovely and very helpful, and have lots of patients. The activities are fun for the children and we have enjoyed every visit.

Such a lovely little shop, friendly staff and great food! The ice cream is next level and the milkshakes are to die for, highly recommend to anyone and everyone. It’s fit for people of all ages from toddlers to the elderly.

This place does not open at 2pm as Stated Lack of knowledge of beers no white wine little stock of red wine waiting for Tesco’s to deliver (yes tescos It is two minutes walk) Not great customer service not sure how long this place will stay open However Cider and IPA were we’re good

Took our daughters and her friend to make slime and they had a ball. Staff where excellent, really friendly and helpful with the girls. Milkshakes where lovely and prices really good. Loads to do would definitely recommend it to any family's.

Sugar Den, Abergele is a must visit for children of all ages, great for adults as well.

Called in abergele after arriving for a few days holiday walked around and found this place and what an unexpected treasure 3waffles all lovely freshly made crepe in front of wear we were sitting. Staff really friendly and helpful. No doubt will be back.

My daughter particularly wanted to try the place. The cafe was cheerfully decorated. There was plenty of activities for children to do, due it being holiday season. Both my daughter and I had milkshakes that were made on the premises, and were delicious. There was a toilet on the premises, that was clean. Staff were cheery, smiley. My daughter would go again in a heartbeat

Have visited a few times with the children as a treat and for their friends birthday parties and have always enjoyed our time there. The milkshakes are amazing and the crepes and pancakes are delicious. Definately always recommend to friends.

I live in Abergele.. and never thought to go in the sugar Den. I think it has been open for a year maybe more?

We were on holiday and thought we would have pancaake rather than afternoon tea. We were not disappointed the staff were friendly and helpful, lots of choice on the menu.We chose a plain waffle, pancake with strawberries and banana and a strawberry milkshake. The food tasted yummy and wAs well presented You can even.paint a pot or teddy too. Soft play area for children.if we return to Abergele we will definitely visit again

What a great little venue for kids party, stress free. Turn up with birthday girl,friends and cake. Then sit back. The staff take care of everything.
