This is a real gem of a place and one you should definitely seek out when in Herne Bay. From the friendly service to the beautiful vintage decor and theming The Vintage Empire hits all the right notes. For tea lovers there's a great selection of teas from all over the world and a fabulous collection of cakes and scones for those with a sweet tooth. We had a cream tea apeice which with a warm scone and lashings of cream really hit the spot. Great little finishing touches from the tea cozies, ration cards on the tables and the background music all add to the fun. Nice little back garden which in the summer would be a lovely little sun trap. Dog friendly too!

We indulged in a Vera Lynn Tea (there were many other options) which was delicious! All served by very friendly staff in 1940s dresses. The sandwiches were made with beautifully fresh bread (choice of white or brown) and we had a choice of fillings. Mum had tuna and cucumber, my daughter had Brie and chutney, and I had egg mayo and cress. These came with tasty homemade scones, cream and jam, complete with fresh strawberry, and also a mini sponge cake and mini slice of chocolate and salted caramel cake. All served with refreshing Pluckley tea from a 'cosy' covered teapot (which was topped up with as much tea as we wanted) and pretty china cups. It was very relaxing as we listened to 1940s music, browsed some interesting war time and home front books and leaflets, and soaked up the atmosphere. A really lovely, cosy, and friendly tearoom.

What a joyous find! Absolutely gorgeous tea shop. I sat in the garden and was given a bell to call for attention - it wasn't needed as the service was superb. I had a tuna sandwich and a pot of tea. The menu said 'Ration Menu' but there's no rationing here, fabulously fresh ingredients, generous filling and butter you could taste! I was offered cakes or scones so politely I felt dreadful to decline. I saw soup served in enamel 1940's style bowls, and fat scones arriving for cream teas with a strawberry garnish dusted with icing sugar - just gorgeous, why the hell did I say no?! The afternoon tea menu all sounds delicious. It was my first time in Herne Bay, but I'll be back for tea and scones as soon as I can.

We were so pleased to find that there is still such a friendly welcoming atmosphere, and the homecooked food is just as tasty. Although our first choice (giant scotch eggs) weren't available when we visited, our second choices were just as delicious. Our granddaughter had a lovely homemade sausage roll with salad (with a tasty 'after eight' hot chocolate drink) my husband had the magnificent ploughmans with salad, and I had a yummy cheese scone with salad and pickles, together with a comforting pot of Pluckley tea each. What a fantastic little tea room hidden away on a busy high street. It was so good we visited twice during our stay. The little garden out back was a haven away from the bustle of the seafront. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Service was great, and the bell system for the garden meant you weren't forgotten sitting outside. The cakes and sandwiches were so fresh, and the children's 'evacuee's lunch' was delicious and very reasonably priced. The quaint 1940s decor made it an interesting place to stop for lunch. Lovely staff, the scones and jam are good. We had the Churchill tea and a Vera Lynn. The tea was lovely and hot, but a bit weak and tasteless. Must be the rationing! The advertised Scotch egg was about a quarter of a Scotch egg in reality, which I felt was a bit tight. The menu implies you get a whole one, which you don't. Sandwiches were lovely, but don't expect dainty little triangles! These are doorstep jobs, but the bread and fillings were good. It's 1940s themed, with music to match. No Snoop Dogg here! It's on the High Street, so you can watch Bay life go past, in all its glory! Been here a couple of times, and it's always good. More Scotch egg though, if you want 5 stars!!

The cafe felt rather like visiting a great-aunt who really wanted to spoil you. Right from going in, we were made to feel welcome. It's normally me who craves afternoon tea, but my husband ordered the Winston Churchill, which I thought was very original take on afternoon tea, while I opted for a cheese scone salad. The cheese scone was so good (no trace of the dreaded bicarb) I asked for a second one to use up the generous portion of butter. The salad was simple, like the ones of my childhood. My only criticism is that the tea was on the weak side, maybe a little less water in would solve the problem. Guests could always be given extra hot water if it was too strong for them. Loved the vintage china and the pretty garden outside, though we opted to sit indoors as we felt the COVID precautions were very good. I've still given 5 stars because the service was so good, really friendly. It was a little haven on an autumn day and would return next time we are in the area.

Popped in on the off chance for a bite to eat and was given a warm welcome including our dog. Felt very safe as using good Covid practice. Ate out in the little back garden in the sunshine. We had a ploughman's and a scotch egg ploughmans both with coffee. I asked for mine without the bread and butter but with some tuna mayo. They were very accommodating and it was not a problem for them. The ploughmans was freshly made with 3 good slices of cheddar, 2 slices of ham served with lettuce, tomato, cucumber swirls on top and a little pot of pickles and coleslaw. Just perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed it. The scotch egg ploughmans was equally delightful and the scotch egg was hand made that morning. Coffee was served in a cup with a saucer and tasted very nice. Definitely recommend this charming place as the staff are just really nice. Also when leaving I spied some very tasty looking hand made cakes, but did not have enough room to try one but maybe next time I visit. Hopefully soon. A delightful step back to an era that faced adversity with the same strong spirit as the owner of The Vintage Empire Tearoom. The adjustments they have made to comply with current Government guidelines for COVID are efficient and clear. Unfortunately the formalities have taken away some of the magic of the shared experience amidst historical artefacts. We had a lovely lunch in the sunny garden area on Monday 14th September. We miss the cosy armchairs that were just by the window but in trust the more cosy feeling will return in the near future when safe to do so. I had a cream tea bought for me for my birthday and we chose this venue due to the excellent reviews. It was not the best cream tea I have had but it was very nice. Highlights were the excellent sandwich, although you do choose just one type, a very large and very delicious scone with very tasty jam and the choice of teas. I had the blue lady which was lovely and very unusual if you like a fragranced black tea. The Vera Lynn also came with a slice of victoria sandwich - although it was tasty it was very slim and the Winston Churchill with a mini pork pie and a small slice of scotch egg. At the end of the day you definitely do not go home hungry as both the sandwich and the scone were huge. The vintage china is lovely, the garden is really a back yard but the experience was good and I would go back.
