The restaurant has a good selection of meals with generous portions. The landlord and his wife are very friendly and have a good selection of fraught beers . On a Sunday there is a carvery which is good value for money. Do not expect to find a fancy restaurant the setting is a typical pub setting . It is a good old fashioned pub with good value meals and a good welcome.Traditional pub menu basic but plentiful and tasty.

Great pub with excellent food. Accommodation nice and clean. Large car park at rear that is okay for vans. Proprietors Jan & Clive were exceptionally welcoming and friendly and could not do enough for us. Brilliant value and would definitely call in and or stay again!

Had an amazing steak cooked perfectly, chips are homemade and gorgeous as well. Pub is family friendly and has a nice atmosphere

Im not going to lie, this was the best meal ive had in ages, the fish & chips was perfect, the fish was amazing!! The garlic mushrooms where out this world aswell, the atmosphere was outstanding, lovely people very welcoming, would deffoo go back!!I soo recommend the fish & chips, it was a 10 out of 10!!Thank you soo much the welsh black team and thank you for making my grandads 80th meal a meal to be remembered!

My partner and I came for a sunday carvery with our 2 teenage daughters. I'm the pickiest eater out of all of us and it fantastic, meats melted in the mouth, really tasty great service we will definitely be back again. Reccomend you book in advance as it's very popular with the locals as well as holidaymakers. Best carvery I have ever attended.

I attended the opening of the new Sunday carvery with family, we were well looked after and the food was lovely.Even though the restaurant was busy it felt very safe with all the COVID measures being adhered to, everything was clearly well planned.Very good disabled access and thoughtful seating meant my elderly mother in-law was able to get in and out as easily as possible. Wishing the new management all the best and we look forward to returning soon.

Dont bother its out dated, dirty and customer service well there wasnt any as it was shut ,i had to pick the key up from another pub over a mile away, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone

avoid lovely welcome in general . the carvery was all huddled on one small hotplate tasted good untill we ate the coliflower cheese it was sour and herd 2 other people saying sane thing went home fine then hours later whole family had bad cramps and ill for 2 days it was only place we had eaten together on this please staff check your food before you serve it and a suggestion for future get a bigger hot plate..let the customer pick the food out of the dishes as everywhere else the staff only lifts the meat this was done by hand yes gloves on but the same gloves was used to clean down things 2 min before meat should be lifted with fork or other utensil not lifted in you hands bare in mind presentation is everything

We are in this pub a couple of times whilst being away on a week holiday in Borth. We loved the food, and the atmosphere. Very friendly bar staff and landlord and land lady. Thank you very much! If you need somewhere to go for a delicious meal I would say eat here!

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, with generous portions and good value for money, the staff were friendly and attentive as always. Finished our meal followed by a few drinks and a game of darts. Very enjoyable evening.

Picture this.... a wet and windy day in West Wales ... you rip the tent trying to get it up in gale force winds. So you go in search of a new tent and a BnB until the bad weather passes.We stumbled on the Welsh Black looking for a room. Sadly they couldn’t accommodate but the lovely lady behind the car called a nearby BnB for us and found us a room while we were tucking into a bar snack and much needed drink. After settling into our room and having a little nap we walked back to the pub for dinner and drinks. Different staff on but the same great, friendly service. The lady chef remembered us from lunchtime.We both had lovely main meals and shared a portion of sloe gin cheesecake. All the food was gone made from scratch ,,. Perfect pastry and very flavoursome faggots.But the star of the show is the friendly service that’s just right for a country pub with restaurant. We felt at home but were also made to feel especially valued as customers. All staff seemed to genuinely be pleased to be there and all giving great customer service. We do not experience this very often. Thankyou all We may come back to the area just so we can come and stay in one of your rooms

The food here was absolutely incredible, been here a couple of times now and always cannot get over how good the grub actually is! Will always recommend this place

The food is excellent, large servings so you won't leave hungry. The staff are very friendly & nothing is too much trouble. We were in the area for four days & ate there on all nights, when you find a place as good as this you won't want to eat anywhere else. Thank you Barry & staff for the very warm welcome each night.

Ate here with family on Saturday night. Great food at reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you. There is lots of parking and the place is dog friendly.

we called in July 2019 for our dinner we asked to see Barry the managerand we explained that we were at TREGARON FOR THE HARNESS RACING the next day and would it be possible to have a roast dinner outside of the times stated he said he would put our dinner at one side so we could have it later when we finished racing the food was EXCELLENT THE STAFF WAS GREAT VERY CHATTY BARRY COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR US I will give this venue top marks

Went here after passing the place when visiting our daughter at Uni. Finally managed to get here. Very good food and very helpful staff. All enjoyed their meals and think it would be worth another visit.

We were delighted to find that this lovely restaurant was very busy for a delicious sunday carvery. It certainly deserves every success. The food is excellent, the service friendly & helpful. Good teamwork & lovely atmosphere. Caught up with old friends at the bar & the staff we very busy but coped extremely well & calmly without rushing everywhere as is so often the case with busy restaurants.. A group of six of us ate here on a Friday evening. and enjoyed our meal (good choice of pub grub), that we returned on Saturday evening. Food reasonably priced, and varied choice of menu.

Loved the food, but had hoped that the pub would have been refurbed or updated since new ownership. Thoroughly enjoyed the full plate of Lasagne and accompaniments. I was surprised how few people were dining there as it always had a good reputation for value for money.

We came across this great little place by chance on our recent weekend away in nearby Borth. Although we wernt able to sit in the restaurant we were perfectly happy to eat in the comfortable bar area especially it being a busy Sunday lunch time and we hadnt booked. The Sunday carvery was delicious with plenty of choice and great value.The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Thank You for such a warm welcome and some lovely half term yummy food on our way home from the beach! We have 5 delicious meals. great steak of the day - sirloin with peppercorn sauce. my husband had the burger, which was yummy! Great puddings. We played a huge game of monopoly and laughed the night away. The owner was lovely and gave the kids a lolly. Thank You!!!! The kids felt very special and wellcome.

Dreadful evening  - pre booked our meals and yet a lot of time was spent ordering drinks at the bar with only one person serving and when meals eventually did come out all steaks were tough when they should have been medium rare and the fish was battered within an inch of its life. Food was also cold for those who went to the bar to get drinks

Absolutely lovely meal, husband had a steak and I had hunters chicken, both persuaded to order a reasonably priced pudding too which were wonderful (cheesecake and bread & butter pudding) Becky the waitress was both attentive and really lovely! Al in all, a really good Good Friday ❤️

Stopped off without booking and the service was impressive - in a reasonably busy pub the two of us were seated, served drinks and shown to the carvery within a matter of minutes. Lovely Sunday lunch with good portions in a proper pub environment.

My sister and our husbands visited on Mothering Sunday. We were shown to our table, drinks order was taken. My rose wine spritzer came in a half pint glass, not the done thing especially for a lady. Saying that the carvery was very good. We were not keen on the roast potatoes as they had been put in the fryer. All the veg were very good. The staff were all very friendly. And the cheese cake was to die for. A good meal for the price will definitely return.

Been every Friday for last 3 weeks. Superb food and good value for money. Food was delicious and also very well presented. Plenty of choice on menu for everybody.

The estate that I live organised a Christmas Meal where over 10 people attended. The food was good value for money at £23 for a 3 course meal consisting of Soup, Turkey and Christmas Pudding, it was only the 3rd time of going to this venue.

This pub/restaurant came up on Trip Adviser as a good place to eat so we went along. The pubs appearance does not do the place justice, just go in and eat. Staff are very friendly and there is a good variety on the menu.

Me and 4 others visited the Welsh Black for dinner on Tuesday evening. Good menu, lots to choose from including specials board.

I stopped on the off chance at this pub for a carvery. It was a nice little pub friendly and the food was great. The staff were very helpful and the prices was reasonable. its only a small carvery so had to wait to be served however it was worth the wait.

We were passing today and dropped in for a Sunday roast,glad we did.Food was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome.

Have just visited for the first time and we were made to feel so welcome even our big Staffy! We sat outside as it was a beautiful night but we could’ve sat in the bar area with our dog if we had wanted to. Outside was clean and tidy with lovely benches (new?). Our waitress (Sasha) was friendly and really bubbly, she took ours orders and checked everything was ok with our meals. We ordered the rump steaks specials, which were cooked perfectly and came with chunky, crispy chips, garden peas, buttered mushrooms, grilled tomato and garnish and topped with REAL onions rings! Absolutely delicious! Every single mouthful! The portion size was generous without being over the top, and very satisfying and the price was really good as well just £10.95 each for rump steaks. The menu offered a wide variety and offers included 2 for £15. I saw vegetarian meals but sorry I’m not sure if there was any vegan meals? My husband had the Nutbrown Ale, which he would recommend as a lovely smooth pint. We hope to go back soon, especially now we know there is a buffet cooked breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays! and we know that our dog (who is a big Staffy) is able to join us inside (dogs are allowed in the bar area and you can reserve a table in the bar if you want to eat inside). 10/10

called in for a meal with freinds the other day Iwas realy supprized at the way It has changed from2years ago when IT was realy great and I said so in a review on here how different first of all the pie was burnt to a crsp the chips were frozen the peas were cold the meal cost £45-00 and it was rubbish there was australian couple in as well and they said it was dog meat WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK THERE you can be sure I BOOKED BREAKFASST FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY WHICH I CANCELLED ON LEAVING

Dropped in here for lunch having driven all around Aberystwyth unable to find a parking space. Received a lovely warm welcome. Heartwarming pub grub served with a smile.

Went to the Welsh Black in Bow street for a Birthday celebration with all the family, what an enjoyable time. The meal was delicious, with great tasting meat and great veg, finished off with a very enjoyable pudding.Thank you all.

We visited this grand venue for our Sunday carvery lunch with a friend. We were not disappointed & enjoyed a lovely meal & met a lot of old friends.

We called for lunch we did book it is recommended as they get quite busy. The food was excellent and the staff extremely friendly we had two courses for £9.95 very good value. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Mientras en nuestro camino de regreso desde Aberystwyth aparecimos a la welsh black no esperábamos mucho, pero qué sorpresa nos recibieron con una sonrisa y en poco tiempo nos sentimos como si estuviéramos en casa, la comida era genial, el personal era increíble, muy date un capricho y pop en que no decepcionará.

Thanks Darren for making us feel very welcome whilst we were on our weeks holiday in Clarach bay. We first called in on Sunday had a lovely carvery then from then onwards we dined there every night, great meals.We will be back again for sure.

Visitamos aquí en nuestro camino de regreso a Snowdon. La comida llegó en un tiempo decente y era preciosa. Así que optamos por el postre que nos dijeron que se caliente. Esperamos 55 minutos para que llegara frío. Entonces esperamos nuestros platos para ser llevado que no sucedió. Así que tuvimos que ir al bar y pagar ya que teníamos un recorrido de tres horas y no había nadie alrededor. Decepcionante.

Visitamos después de reservar el sábado 19 de septiembre en el comienzo de nuestras vacaciones en Clarach Bay. Pedimos nuestras comidas, pero no había ningún sitio para sentarse y parecía un poco reacio a dejaron sentarse en el restaurante, pero me di cuenta que mi esposa no podía soportar por mucho tiempo, en su bastón, vamos a ir a través.

Después de un muy decepcionante visita a un pub cercano que nos fuimos temprano, decidimos dejar en el Welsh Black para al menos ver el partido de rugby Gales v de Uruguay, aunque quizás no nos dan el almuerzo de domingo. Quedamos muy satisfechos que se ofreció un almuerzo completo a precios muy razonables - la casera y chef no podría haber sido más servicial, la comida era muy buena y nos dieron de comer mientras contempla el partido. Recomendaríamos una visita a otros.

Mid-week, the sun was out for a change in Aberystwyth - first time in weeks - and I happened to be in Bow Street. It was 6pm - prime time for a pub to be well on the way, serving beer and start ordering food. Like I said, the sun was out and most people had finished work, wanting a beer in the sun (they have a beer garden) and feeling peckish.But not in this part of town. They were well and truly shut.Wake up!! You're absolutely crazy to be shut at this time. I remember when this place was open whenever you turned up.With the likes of Weatherspoons raking it in down the road and capitalizing, you are rolling over and dying.If you are shut, prime time, then people will never bother again. If you can't make the effort, you may as well close down.

We arrived after the chef had just left, He was contacted and came back offering us the full menu.The food was all home cooked and tasted really good.

We'd heard the Welsh Black had a decent reputation, and Darren the Landlord was known for serving good pub grub. But, unfortunately for us, we visited whilst Darren was on Holiday.The Restaurant itself was surprisingly empty for a weekend, but the decor and surroundings were nice, and it was relaxing. The menu was also full of choice.But, when we tried to order garlic mushrooms for starter, we were told that there were hardly any mushrooms left, and they were needed for main courses. This wasn't a good start, why have items on the menu if you don't have stock. So, we both chose Pâté instead. Whilst edible, it was very processed, and tasted more like Luncheon meat, than actual Pâté. The Pasta my other half had for main course was sadly very bland and dry. I chose Gammon for my main and it was the best Gammon I have ever tasted, so full of flavour & juicy, and I enjoyed my meal. We felt that we didn't get to enjoy the proper Welsh Black experience in Darren's absence though, so this is reflected in my rating.

amazing food even my kids ate all there sunday roast and praised the food. staff and locals made us feel very welcome. definitely come again. if your near here I would recommend a visit :)

Had tried to book by email, but it never got there! Was collecting my son from Aber University, and needed a decent meal before tackling a 250-mile car drive home. Arrived mid-day. Darren the landlord stopped his gardening to cook for us - a great steak meal - just the job.This is a traditional pub with a landlord that cares, and customers who welcome the odd stranger!

Have been staying at the Welsh Black as have been working in the area. Food is very good, excellent in fact as is the beer! Darren the landlord cares about his customers and is a real character. Well worth a stay if passing through or looking for somewhere to have a meal. Highly recommended!
