This is our first visit to Portrush, and we were excited to try this restaurant, based on the good reviews we saw here on Google. We made reservations, and as it got close to our selected time to dine, we discovered that two other couples in our tour group had also booked a table at the same time. We figured we would ask if Urban could seat us all together once we got there and if they weren’t busy. They weren’t busy, so we asked the hostess if she could put us all together. That is where the trouble began. While she did put us together, she clearly wasn’t happy to do so. She said she’d have to cancel two reservations and change the third. Which again, if they had had a restaurant full of customers, I could understand the frustration and would never have asked. But they were not busy. That seemed to set the tone for the rest of our service. The (very) young man who came to take our order asked if we wanted drinks. Before I ordered anything, I asked if it would be possible to separate the bill so each couple paid for their own. He said no problem. I ordered a pink gin bramble, my husband ordered a shot of Bushmills 21. After a while, the boy came back with our drinks, and spilled my drink as he handed it to me. He said nothing and walked away. It wasn't a small spill, and I had to use all our paper napkins to clean it up. I then asked him and also the two young girls who checked in at our table for more napkins. I finally got them on the fourth ask, well into the meal. By the way, the cocktail I had was a red pink slushie with no discernible gin in it, sweet and weak. Disappointing for the high price. Two more people from our group showed up with their own reservation, and the staff seated them at a table next to ours. We asked if we could push their table a foot over to be next to ours, and again, the staff seemed VERY put out by it. Why was this request a big deal? We all noticed, because it wasn’t busy in there, that the staff gathered by the bar and were clearly talking about us by the way they were gesturing and smirking. Very unprofessional. As for the food quality: The scallops were overcooked and had some grit in them, and the lamb was overcooked and tough. Other people in our group said their food was okay. It did not live up to the prices and the menu descriptions. The real problem came when it was time to get the bill. They gave us a bill for all three couples on one check. We reminded them that we had asked for separate checks, and the server said no, we don't do that. We told her that we had asked ahead of time, and she said it didn't matter, that they would not split it. Okay, we asked if we could give them three different credit cards then, and she said yes, but you have to figure it out. So we did, and my husband went up with the three cards to pay. Suddenly the manager walked over and slammed a bill down that now had the fourth couple’s check, the ones who arrived later with their own reservation who simply wanted their table pushed over, added to ours. My husband said why did you do that? We want to pay for just our meals! She said because we all sat together, and you are NOT allowed to leave until this gets paid. As if we were going to cut and run! This fourth bill had drinks from our order on it, which makes no sense since we ordered those before this couple had even arrived! It was a complicated mess that didn't have to so if 1.) the boy had said no, we do not split bills or 2) they had kept the fourth party’s bill separate from ours. We left feeling frustrated, ridiculed and downright angry. Hey, I get that owning a restaurant isn’t easy. I own a shoppe in the states and I deal with customers and yes, tourists, on a daily basis myself (we have a national park in our town that brings over a million visitors a summer into our area). But I can assure you that I would NEVER treat paying customers like that. We spent nearly $300 at Urban and should have had better service. There are lots of other restaurants in Portrush, hopefully who actually appreciate your business.

Food was okay, not worth the price. The cocktails were definitely watered down! Hard to pick high on the lovely atmosphere with the service and passive aggressive comments. The place was dead, but they seemed frustrated when a few of us (with separate reservations) wanted to sit near each other (but still grouped by reservation. The staff didn’t split up the checks by table- or rather they did but with the wrong items on the wrong checks. Then, before we said anything while we were still at the table talking, the staff canceled all the checks and said (loudly) we had to pay the whole check before we left, giving us a single check with the whole group combined. People were looking at us like we tried to leave without paying. Such a mess. A lot of unnecessary confusion

Hubby and I booked our table for 5:15pm and were seated straight away. Drinks & food ordered within 5 mins. I ordered the crispy chilli honey prawns & noodles and hubby ordered the crispy chilli honey beef & noodles with prawn crackers. We ordered a side of garlic cubes also. The meal was served within 10mins and was delicious .. flavours were so yummy. The prawn crackers also were so chunky and lovely to eat. However the prawns were not crispy.. they had a batter on them, but were soggy amongst the noodles. I feel the meal should have been served on a plate rather than crammed inside the bowl (perhaps this is why the crispy prawns were soggy?) Lovely restaurant with very attentive staff. Will defs be coming back to try out other things on the menu. Thankyou

Bad bits: To be honest, the food is overpriced & quality isn’t the greatest. We had steak, which wasn’t too bad, a bit dry round the edges. We asked for the garlic butter SAUCE, it came and it was literally just melted butter in a pot (paid £4 each for it) Husband ordered the sour cream and chilli chips, and honestly they were soggy and just had sauce from a bottle all over it. We didn’t even eat them. One of our plates had a big chip / crack in it! The waitress that served us was very stroppy / huffy, she wasn’t polite, had no manners, looked completely miserable. We understand she could have been having a bad day, but she was just TOO stroppy. We felt bad even placing our order with her like we were really annoying her by existing. Good bits: The asparagus with parmesan was the nicest part of the meal, perfectly cooked. Crispy onions were tasty. The place is nicely decorated, comfortable seats. Review: We were underwhelmed by the overall experience. Probably wouldn’t go back unless they sort the prices out.

Correct restaurant, a perfect option for daily dining, the menu is very extensive and they have a great variety of dishes (woks, pasta, meats...), so you can go and eat totally different things. 🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏻 In our case we almost ordered the fondee and garlic bread for starters (they were very good), and some ordered pasta, noodles or meat. The mains were very large portions for the price of the dish, but the sauces/oil were plentiful. 🍟🍝 The chocolate cheesecake dessert was a bomb 💣 that is worth trying. 🤤 The price was very low for Ireland, so it is a place to return to if you don't know where to go and it will be a good option. 👌🏻🤑

The food was so nice and came really fasf! It’s unfortunate that the staff made me feel uncomfortable and rushed therefore couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve liked.

Excellent food, staff, and surroundings.

Been here a few times, last time being just after Christmas, always loved the food, very good quality and portion size. Don't mind paying when the food is good. Which was why I booked it for a birthday celebration last night. We ordered brie and ribs as starters and my son ordered the prawns and his girlfriend duck - which took a while to come. My partner and I noticed right away the portion size was reduced drastically. Approximately 50% smaller. Still tasty but half meat on ribs, half amount of brie, duck very small amount folded in pita bread- didn't taste great. But the worst was the prawns- 4! Prawns! Now I have been raving about this place since my first visit and always order the same main dish, which my partner decided to order too- goats chesse tart with sides of chips and rocket salad, I even keep a picture of it on my phone and have showen it many times. Last nights meals bared no resemblance to it what so ever. So so so disappointed. My son had lamb , which was small and very dry garlic potatoes, his girlfriend had the prawn noodles. The tart looked nothing like it had done previously and the rocket salad which I had loved was so bad and tasteless. Floor staff has always been mediocre but because the food was so good we had always overlooked that. Even the Guinness was served in a wet glass - £6 a pint. This restaurant started off strong but has gone way way down hill. We had been planning to visit this restaurant regularly as we've just moved to the area but sorry to say they've just lost a good repeat customer.

Place was bussing when we got there not many empty seats and the service and the starter we got between us was lovely the mains also we very good

Tastiest meal I’ve ever had! Food couldn’t have been any better and the service was 10/10! Went for lunch here a few weeks ago but made sure to get back for dinner. We were in and out in 45 mins, the service was so quick. Food was piping hot. Starters, Mains, Sides, dips, Guinness it kept getting better, literally cannot be faulted, delicious! Best overall meal I’ve ever had! A must go, thanks to the staff 👌

My wife is still talking about the tomato tart she had for her lunch And let’s face it if you’re excited about a tomato tart it must be special. My honey chilli beef was good as well. Very friendly service and overall an enjoyable lunch on a rainy day in Portrush

An excellent dinner in a beautiful environment! Urban sits just off the main town square in Portrush and serves top quality food and excellent cocktails. The North Coast of Northern Ireland has a reputation for amazing food, and Urban holds its own very, very well.

Very popular place so booking in advance is a must! Decent selection in the menu however only 3 mains suitable for vegetarians. I went for the tart which was lovely. Other options was cauliflower or broccoli 🙃Service was good. Prices reasonable. Tables a bit too close together for my liking. Update March 2024... This is a somewhat mixed review. Sunday lunch. I ordered the tart and garlic bread which were both superb. My plate was clean! 5 stars. My husband and MIL both ordered the roast beef dinner. Zero stars. Beef was stone cold and very stringy/fatty. Yorkshire pudding was more soggy than crispy. Rest of their food was barely warm. And the side of veg was pitiful. I can't fault the staff at all - they were very attentive and prompt. Thank you. Unfortunately we won't be back again.

Been here a couple of times but went last week and it was the worst food I’ve ever tasted and the chairs were full of dirt, staff are so rude would not recommend this pace

Fantastic restaurant and caters on all types of food. Very nice food and must be the best restaurant in Portrush. I had the Spicy beef noodles and with a side dish of Chilli chips. Both were very tasty. The chilli chips have to be the best I have tasted. Staff are very friendly. Service is truest very quick. Highly recommended and would recommend-visit anytime when revisiting Portrush. Cracking value for money. Sat on the High Street in Portrush.

The food was great but felt a bit rushed as when the waitress was clearing the table she as do you want your bill now and we had only sat our knifes and forks down. But food was beautiful

It was very quiet in the restaurant for a Saturday afternoon. I ordered a burger and I always cut it in half to eat it. When I cut into it the middle was cold. I didn’t want to cause a fuss while our party was eating so I did not mention at the time and I didn’t eat the burger. I had ordered chilli and sour cream cubes which I ate some of, but these were swimming in half a bowl of chilli sauce. When the server came to take our plates I mentioned why I had not eaten the burger. He was very apologetic. He then went and spoke to the supervisor/manager but came back with the bill to tell us he tried to get the burger removed but he was not allowed. As someone who owns a food establishment I’ve never seen anything handled this way, not even a discount given or an apology from the manager. I wish I had read some of the reviews before booking Urban as if I had, I would not have been eating here. Would definitely avoid in the future.

The place is beautifully decorated and there’s a great atmosphere but the food is definitely a let down. It’s always a red flag when the food lands on the table 5 minutes after ordering. I got the chilli chicken rigatoni and it was clear that the chicken was not fresh as it had the reheated taste. Also you could tell the pasta was not cooked fresh and was reheated also. Very expensive for what it was. My partner got the noodles with prawn crackers, portion was small and prawn crackers were stale. Also the french martini tasted like pure juice. This would be such a great place if the chefs didn’t take shortcuts when preparing food- fresh is always best especially if you’re charging those prices.

A surprise of a place, really nice and the food is delicious! Everything we tried was very careful, the flavors, the presentation and the portion, in addition to the prices for the quality and quantity being very affordable, that really surprised me since in other places it would have cost up to twice as much. Something that I particularly liked is that the kitchen is visible and everything is super clean. The service is very good and they are always aware of what you need, I would definitely return.

Food was excellent; good portions, good price, tasted great. Service was hit and miss. Initially the waitresses are coming over every few mins but once you've ordered it's very hard to get anything, no offer of any extra drinks, "was everything okay" etc. Open kitchen - lovely to watch. However, watched chefs on their phones, go out for a smoke/toilet, didn't see anyone wash their hands the whole time we were there, which was slightly off-putting. All in all, best restaurant in Portrush. Great food, great price, much better than overly hyped restaurants at other end of the town😉

Good food with great service and pleasant and helpful staff.

Lunch, dinner or whatever, quality is always there! Friendly, efficient staff and on top of that the quality of each dish was absolutely great. The scallops starter with pancetta, peas and pea puree was done perfectly! Main course of steak, cooked just as requested, mushroom sauce complemented perfectly. Ambience in restaurant on a very blustery winter Sunday evening was just the thing to bring you back to Urban in double quick time.

Party of 6 visited on Sat 13 Jan for friends 60th. First time here. The food was amazing, service was very good and staff really friendly and the atmosphere of the place was so good. Well worth the visit from Co Down to Portrush

This is a class restaurant! Son was very impressed with the Parmesan and garlic crusty bread. Portions are good size and alot of thought has went into the menu and presentation. You didn't have long to wait between courses. Staff were friendly

Third time in Ireland was pleasant due to my experience here! I didn’t wait any time to be seated and when I was , it was at a very romantic spot under a yellow light. Very good for a date night. The staff were brilliant- a blonde lady who gave the impression of that she was an owner or manager instructed us where the bathroom was with a smile even when the restaurant was super busy. Our waiter with brown hair and glasses (didn’t catch his name) was very characteristic and positive with looking after us. The staff work brilliantly together and are very kind and funny in our case. The food came in big portions which is good value for the price. The steak I got was amazing and cooked to perfection (medium rare) my wife’s meal noodles were equally as good. Left with a full stomach and slept like a baby after would definitely recommend!

Lovely restaurant with great food. There is a car park very close by. We shared the chicken wings starters. It was absolutely amazing! It comes with a blue cheese dip which I loved. I ordered the Angus burger which was cooked to perfection, my wife had the salt and chilli prawns which she enjoyed. My youngest son had the kids burger which was the same quality as my burger! I love it when restaurants treat the kids menu equally important. Overall, we all enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.

Friendly people, good service, nice atmosphere and excellent food at a decent price

We started our meal with prawns and poppadoms, but unfortunately, the poppadoms underneath the prawns were soft and soggy. I ordered mine with champ for the main course, but it came with mash instead. My mum's steak was overcooked and chewy. We informed the waiter about the issues, but he brushed them off. Later, while paying the bill, my mum mentioned the problem again. The restaurant staff then asked her if she wanted to take it any further, but it wasn't clear what that meant. We definitely won't be returning to this restaurant in the future.

Booked here for a small Xmas work Dinner - not impressed at all. I was told this was a Wine Bar - sorry didnt get that vibe at all. Ordered the Xmas dinner - a staggering £24 for 1 course ! Dinner came out looked like a pre-packaged dinner tasted bland and really I had to think after “what exactly did I eat?” The Ham was Awful can I add! Other 4star hotels in North Coast are offering 2courses for £30 as a Xmas deal - that’s a hotel and not this ‘Wine Bar’. Music was far too loud - waitresses were very attentive though again Looked very very young and inexperienced and no training or else lack of! Continually stopping by the table no communication but that’s not their fault ! We thanked them for the service The dessert sticky toffee was massive - great! However again tasted bland and the sauce and pudding were freezing - we asked for extra sauce to heat it up - it arrives and it was also freezing. Atmosphere inside felt more like a lunch time stop off and not an Xmas Night out I’m afraid won’t be back for these prices and the food when nearby hotels are offering way more for less

Do yourself a favor and stop by. Chili chicken bowl was FIRE 🔥🔥 We had a large group and everyone raved about their meal. The staff was attentive and the whole place felt like a nice of mix modern and cozy.

Five starts all around. Wonderful starters and variety of food. We wanted to try traditional Irish food. They had the best tasting meals we have had in Northern Ireland. The service was top notch. Great desserts as well.

A wonderful dining experience with a varied discount depending on which day of the week you book. Rump steak, tobacco onions, and pepper sauce with a side of garlic cubed fried potato for me and spicy beef bolognaise for the lady. Dessert was pavlova for her and lemon tart with raspberry sorbet for him. Throw in a couple of soft drinks and a bill of less than £50 was a very pleasant surprise. Please pay this place a visit. Great location, great service. The "grilled cod" was steamed at best. But fine. The bolognese was fine. Nothing to write home about. Food was ok. Some dishes were disappointing - the stuffed burgers had a very plastic bun and the party was rubbery. The chips were soggy. The scallops were great.

Another great night out, short notice late booking not a problem. Seated promptly, drinks order taken quick, space to comfortably sit and choose our meals. No constant interruptions and over care. Absolutely gorgeous food and portion sizes. Extremely good value also. Good selection of NA's and other drinks, reasonable price for the wine but one minor complaint is cocktail prices, they're a bit on the high side, even the non alcoholic versions. Other than that small thing 5 stars across the board. Love going back.

Another excellent restaurant in the chain. On my last night in Portrush have to say this was the best meal. Noodles and fillet steak outstanding. Did get a bit spicy at the end. Service very quick and efficient. Will be back again.

Went for lunch on Monday and from the moment we walked in we felt like we were very important customers the vibe was lovely the staff were absolutely outstanding and the food was the best I've tasted in along time.. piping hot full of flavour and absolutely delicious there is not 1 fault I could give this restaurant its food or its lovely staff can't wait to visit again

We nipped in to Urban whilst on holiday in the out of season period and this place appeared very popular, I now understand why. The food in this establishment is superb, it has a contemporary menu with a great variety which offered some of the best food selection for my wife who is a pescatarian. The quality of service and food has not been surpassed in my time here in Northern Ireland. I'm very pleased to highly recommend this restaurant, thank you Urban for an outstanding experience.

Cheese fondue delicious and great price compared to Ramore restaurants who don't give enough bread and charge nearly double this price! Portion sizes run a bit big, the lamb rump I was served was actually three portions of rump, had no hope of finishing, chilli beef noodles were sweet but delicious again a very large portion.

Staff are great, THEY get 5 stars! However...Food is just ok. Fish very bland. Very VERY expensive. Mains don't come with a side so don't get caught like we did. £6 for a Guinness! Enough said I reckon

Had a celebration meal in the urban last night. Lovely food and excellent portions. We were well looked after by the lovely young waiter who was around 17. He was able to give great suggest on what to get and was extremely friendly and helpful. Very impressed with the service provided.

We visited Urban on a Sunday evening. Friendly helpful staff, lovely atmosphere. Food arrived quickly. Suspiciously so. I had Peking duck noodles. The duck was extremely over cooked and tasted reheated. Cocktails excellent. Shame about the food quality for the price.

6 of us ate here this week. Food was just okay. Two of the dishes had a distinct taste of washing up liquid which lingered and repeated on us for the following 24 hours. Really not sure what this was, probably/hopefully not washing up liquid but that is the only way I can describe the taste we have been left with in our mouths. The side of fresh vegetables my wife got were frozen, still cold in the middle. The rest of the food was okay. Our waitress was very good, friendly, attentive. That was the strong point of our visit. I would have given 5 stars for service only I tried to phone the restaurant on 6 different occasions on the week prior to modify the booking at different times of the day but couldn't get anyone to answer and had to give up which frustrated me. This was my first time eating here even though I am local. We were disappointed. Overall a very mediocre experience. To be honest, I won't rush back.
