Vovem Meat & Liquor in Aberdeen City

To start, They made the best old-fashioned I have ever had. The entrees were hilariously small. We ordered the scallops... And it came with just two and the pork belly. While delicious, it is very much less than expected. They were out of some of the steaks we ordered so ended up settling with the wagu ribeye. It was overcooked from the rare I ordered to about medium... But the flavor. It was absolutely, melt in your mouth delicious. The other steaks our table ordered were about 50/50 on correctly cooked, but all were delicious. The wine and service were also exceptional. I would come back here if in Aberdeen again and would recommend that you come here if you are. Overall it was great with a few shortcomings.

Food was amazing - great place for steak. Large selection of wines and some from unusual wineries. Try the Sijnn Malgas red - you won’t regret it

Went here for Mum's birthday for 2nd year...Have to say, we were pretty disappointed that the overall standards have dropped sadly. Took a long time to get served drinks and for food order to be taken. Staff were all very nice but food was not of the same quality of last year. My daughter's and my steaks were both very chewy and rather tough to cut (1 sirloin, 1 rump both medium rare) and a few of the side dishes (particularly mashed potatoes) were cold. Didn't want to complain and cause a fuss but it really wasn't worth the money and was surprised at how poor it was compared to last year! Also, the disabled access lift was full of baby high chairs, which isn't really very convenient for someone who has mobility issues to have to wait till they are all cleared before they can use the lift. Overall rather disappointed.

Sunday lunch and drinks. Had the Sunday lunch sharing platter. Wow what value and quality! Beef was absolutely amazing! Sides were great. Lovely resteraunt, meat cooked on wood stoves and grills, smells amazing. The best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time, highly recommend. Large selection of wine, house larger is good. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and even if the coctail you desire is not on the menu they will happily make a cocktail of your choice. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

We 've only been there for drinks. My negroni was ok-ish. The margaritas my friends ordered were not nice so they ordered something different. The place is lovely and very nicely decorated, the staff was ok but if you go try to stay away from the stands at the front. The door opens frequently and it's freezing

After seeing this restaurant on several travel blogs, my husband and I decided to try it out. On a Monday night, it was fairly empty (in the off-season in February), but their reservation system was easy enough. The cocktails were top tier, and the steaks were cooked perfectly. Wonderful experience!

Wow! Blown away by the Monkfish! Absolutely delicious and amazingly paired with mango sauce. Best meal I have had in Aberdeen and will deffo come back! Well priced and super friendly staff who were chatty and also very helpful, given we were in a rush!

Fish was absolutely incredible, best meal I have had in Aberdeen and in Scotland (and best fish I have had in the Uk, I am Spanish so I have high expectations…)! Definitely could recommend the sea bass. Also, service: 10/10! Our waitress was so nice!

Ok so long story short: I was there in December 2023. A man who was next to door was very nice and helpful and told me about their restaurant and took me to a table. Waitress was really nice too but kinda busy bc as far as I could see she was only one working atm as a waiter but fortunately I wasn’t a needy guest lol. But we r here for food and the food was marvellous. Bone marrow butter suited to my steak perfectly! I did choose my fillet of beed from a regional herd and it was a reallyreally good choice! It cooked perfectly “blue” bc heat inside was more than right, it was just perfect more to this this meat was just so delicious. The side dishes which I took with my meat like potatoes cooked in geese fat and lil sweet carrots were soooo good. Definitely gonna be back there as soon as I will be back in Aberdeen. This is a place that I can recommend anyone!

This was recommended by someone local, we had the Steak Night for Two. Choice of two either a Ribeye or Sirloin, two sides and sauce. Sides of triple cooked chips and roasted vegetables were good and steaks were perfectly done. Our server was friendly, had a great smile and overall the experience was very good.

First, a perfectly cooked tomahawk steak for two. Then we had the roasted garlic and chive mashed potatoes which were surprisingly amazing with the creamed cabbage and crispy smoked pancetta. With a well picked tempranillo reserve in the glass it was as good as it gets. On my way back from the toilet I looked to look at the fire in the open kitchen when I was invited to come closer to look. I then had a nice conversation with the chef about how they cook the meat. They didn't have to do it, but they were very open and friendly. Take service was good as well. Overall we couldn't have asked for more and it was so much better than some other, more recent experiences.

This is now the 3rd visit to this Wonderful establishment. I really can't fault the place. The attention to detail on everything is on another level. There is a real warm and welcoming feeling, every time you come here. The food is fantastic and the cocktails hit the spot. We look forward to our next visit. 😀 Highly recommend.

We had the oysters and some drinks. The oysters were delicious, we rated the vinaigrette accompaniment. Sam provided us with great service, checking in and chatting to us and making sure our cocktails were to taste, which they were. The food around us also looked great, would like to come back and try other menu choices.

Classic steak house with a great wine selection.

Service was exceptional. Food was good, but I had higher expectations. Steak was very thin, but cooked appropriately. Scallops and (huge) Lobster tail were cooked perfectly.

We visited for our Anniversary meal on Friday & had booked for 8pm but on arrival our table wasn't ready so we were asked to take a seat at the bar & the staff would get us a drink which was fine & we didn't have to wait long before our table was ready. We had a few questions re steaks which staff were happy to answer, we decided on Chatuebriand but at £87 were shocked that it came with nothing but the choice of two sauces everything else was extra! so we went for sauteed mushrooms, triple chips & truffle & parmesan....£6 for 8 chips is a joke!! We had a bottle of red wine.... the most money I've ever spent on a bottle £33 wine was very overpriced/marked up! Now don't get me wrong the food was lovely but while eating we were still in shock over the price & what we had to pay on top of that for sides...I had been told prior that Vovem wasn't great value for money & that another city steakhouse was much better value but decided to give you a go. When we got our bill we were again shocked that the drinks we'd been led to believe were complimentary due to our table not being ready were on there along with a chicken burger we didn't have & a charge for the water they automatically put on our table which was obviously just tap water! So all in all the two waiters who dealt with us were excellent, food was good but not good value for money, very overpriced for what we got, we were meant to have a drink downstairs but didn't bother & we'll not return there are better places in Aberdeen.

Had an enjoyable Wednesday night, itison sponsored tea here. Voucher was for a sharing charcuterie or cheese board and a glass of wine for two. We opted for the charcuterie and swapped one glass of wine for a soft drink. The girl who seated us did manage to upsell us into ordering a couple of sides too but wasn't pushy about it. The charcuterie was very good but the pork belly and triple cooked chips were both delicious, some of the best of either we've had! I also tried a vovem lager which was also very good. The decor is very slick and modern, staff were all pleasant and attentive. Only criticism was the young chap coming back to the table to clear away glasses immediately after we settled the bill. He did say repeatedly no hurry but felt he should maybe have just waited a few minutes at least.

Great food, fantastic service, and excellent cocktails. I definitely recommend it.

We had a lovely night at 21 Crimes. They have a really cool menu, where you answer a series of questions and the bar staff make you a unique, tailored cocktail. Calum and Morgan were fantastic and created some awesome drinks for us!

When you go to a steak restaurant and the best thing is the Mac & cheese something is very wrong. Ordered prawns which were so over cooked they were inedible and sent back, they were like rubber. Never had gambas pil pil with a lemon in with them, the lemon was like mush which confirmed they’d been microwaved or in the oven for a long time. Chateaubriand despite being ordered medium rare was overcooked and had a bone dry crust around which I had to cut off, to make a chateaubriand that dry takes real effort, or a hot oven or both…. When I asked why was told on each occasion “that’s just how it goes” or “it would just come back the same” My previous visit a year ago was so very different so it’s sad to see how kitchen standards have dropped.

This is our favourite place to eat in Aberdeen. We’ve eaten here twice in the last week. On Sunday we had the sharing platter roast and on Thursday had the steak offer for 2. We love everything about Vovem from the moment you come through the door the staff are there greeting you in a friendly genuine manner. They are knowledgeable about the food and drink. The ambience and service is excellent. The food is top quality and you can tell a lot of care has gone into selecting suppliers.

The steak was nice but had better as it was very thin compared to rib eyes that I've had before maybe they cut it thinner because it was on there mid week meal for 2 deal, when we walked in they asked if we wanted a glass of water only to find out they changed us for the water on the bill, but the worst part was the triple cooked chip were more like half potato's definitely not chips very disappointed won't go back

Tried Vovem for a second time after being underwhelmed with the service in February. What a difference! The service was incredible from start to finish. The food was excellent, definitely the best place in Aberdeen for steak.

Booked for an early evening midweek meal. Was greeted on arrival and as shown to our table all the staff spoke , this was the same on leaving, they were all smiling and polite. Extensive menu, we went for the sharing bread selection to start which was really tasty, a variety of breads, chilli butter ( which was delicious), balsamic & oil and olives. As beef farmers we chose steak got our mains, they tasted good albeit mine ( medium rare) was slightly overcooked however my husband swapped with me. We had sides of chunky chips and mushrooms in garlic butter and sauces - blue cheese and peppercorn. My husband had a large glass of red wine. Service was very good, I think it was the manager. Nice , modern surroundings, it was quiet when we were there but expect it’s buzzing on a busy weekend evening.

Nice atmosphere. OK food. Cocktails seemed a bit small. Had the 2 for 1 steak special. It was as if they cut a real steak in half & served it to 2 people. Would lose this special. Probably would have enjoyed eating off the regular menu as the cooking & service was good. I'd give it another chance if I was a local.

We have been to Vovem and 21 Crimes on 3 or 4 occasions over the last couple of years and have always had a great experience. Unfortunately on this last occasion the experience was completely different and has really put us off returning. The food wasn't great - my partner's steak was cold (both steaks the same and both cooked medium rare) and looked like it had been made in advance compared to mine. We ordered a side of mushrooms which had a long black hair in them which was very off putting. The triple chips were also hard in the middle and not piping hot. We thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt and head to 21 Crimes for a cocktail - I wish we hadn't! We were given the cocktail menu by a member of staff from the restaurant and we're told we could either order off of this or following the "menu" from the 21 Crimes bar (which is trying too hard anyway). Unfortunately we were 'greeted' by a staff member (female, green hair) who appeared very stressed for someone with no patrons as the bar was dead! We were seated by the staff member from the restaurant in a booth with the cocktail menus. Around 15 minutes later (baring in mind we were the only ones there) I went up to the bar to ask if we could order drinks. In hindsight, we should have left at this point. She told us she would take our order at the table so I went to sit back down again. Another 10 or so minutes passed before she came over (again, no other customers around!) and then proceeded to tell us that we couldn't order from the cocktail menu we had been given as it was restaurant only and had the menus literally taken out of our hands. We asked can you not make that then? She then, in a very flustered manner agreed to make the drinks (as is that not the whole point of the menu anyway?). Anyway, another 20 minutes passed until we received the drinks, which were so poorly made. Such a disappointing experience and unfortunately don't think we'll be returning.

A warm welcome from the staff. Tried the steak for 2 deal. Absolutely delicious, steaks cooked to perfection, sides and sauces so tasty. Staff knowledgeable and attentive but not intrusive. A wonderful dining experience which we would thoroughly recommend.

Taken here for fathers day lunch, was not sure what to order. Saw the roast beef and we opted for that and a pudding. Service was great (3 different servers) food was wonderful, also got the pork belly as a side (was fantastic). Sticky toffee pudding (Mmmmm) and a couple of beers to wash it down. Just a very nice place, looks quiet when you go in as the bar is at the front but out the back in the eating area was very busy. Will be back some evening to try a steak…

Superb restaurant! Great food, excellent service. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were looked after by Molly and nothing was too much trouble. She is a credit to the establishment! We will be back!

Out for a birthday meal, was sat at a table by the bar and door, away from the main restaurant. The food was fine, had to remind staff for the extra chips we ordered and never received an order of water that we were charged for. Service was pretty lame, tried to catch attention several times to clear table and order drinks and such. Looked at out dirty main plates for at least 10 minutes. Food can't complain though, that candied pork belly was a highlight. Mentioned to staff while paying bill that service was pretty shoddy but they accepted it, they agreed that table was one of the less managed ones. Perhaps that acknowledgement will lead to better service for future diners. In a few words... I wouldn't rush back

Arrived for the steak night for couples . We ordered 2 sirloins - with the chunky chips and garlic prawns as sides . My steak was over cooked to well done - asked for medium . Partners was medium . Was so hungry I just ate it wasn’t bothered to complain and wait for another one . Got about 9 chunky chips and the prawns were soggy. It just think for the price or £50 it was a bit miserable . A bit over rated to be honest .

Service was ok, food was disappointing. Not bad, just could be a lot better. I asked for my steak rare, and it was quite well done. I didn’t want to make a fuss because I wasn’t paying…. It was at least decent in spit of being over cooked, and the bane marrow jus was good. My wife’s chicken was dry and bland.

Disappointed was there for a birthday celebration for 6 people. Two people ordered individual Sunday roast but my partner and myself ordered the sharing platter Sunday roast. It came plated and the only thing we got to share was a dish of cauliflower and cheese...

I've been to Vovem a few times with family and friends, and always been extremely impressed with the service, the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Not a thing has ever been out of place, and it has always been an incredible meal and evening. Would recommend to anyone!

Ate here for the first time with a large group of colleagues and have to say that I was equally impressed with the food and the waiting staff. Let's start with the food. I had a ribeye steak and it was coked exactly to my liking. Perfectly seasoned and although I had a side of peppercorn sauce, the meat easily stood on its own. We had a variety of sides that complimented the meat but there was no doubt that the steak was the star of the show. I had scallops to start and again these were perfectly cooked. Just a quick word about the staff. This was a large table (two tables really) and they were super efficient and clearly knew what they were doing. They were friendly and attentive without being overbearing (my restaurant pet peeve) and worked hard throughout the evening. The restaurant was busy in general but you never felt that the staff were rushed. Although there were some vegetarian options, it is probably best avoided if you don't eat meat. If you are carnivorous then this place should sate.

The steak on the lunch menu is affordable. The steak was just really good. They grilled the steak well. Will come back for it again.

Usually love this place but my last visit left me disappointed. I had steak frites and my steak was very fatty, I was embarrassed having to spit out bits of grizzle. The bits I could eat were very tasty.

Not the best experience today. A photoshoot was happening just after I arrived. The constant flashing from the camera equipment was annoying. Owner had his kid in with him. Is it a daycare too? Either way, unprofessional. I felt there could have been more food on the plate (Sunday roast) especially veggies as they’re cheap as chips. Skirlie? On a Sunday roast? No. £8.50 for a small slice of sticky toffee pudding which wasn’t all that great. First time and last time.

Visited Sunday 22nd Feb for Sunday lunch, we went for the Sunday Roast sharing plater. Wow, great spread, top notch food and terrific value. Wasn’t that busy so quiet atmosphere but service and all round experience was spot on. Would recommend and will be back....
