Cafe Rouge Stratford Upon Avon in Stratford-on-Avon

Poor Cafe Rouge - you can see the decline in the brand. We only went to use some Tesco vouchers but was shocked that most have now closed. I think there might be one other on the UK high St and the rest at Centre Parcs? We walked in without a booking as the only other two people in there were leaving. We were then the only ones in there for the whole duration of the two course meal. I have to say that the male and female member of staff were very pleasant so this is not a reflection on them. We had soup which I think was £7.50 and felt very overpriced. We then had some chicken and fries with a gravy which was like water although the food was piping hot. As you can't use the Tesco vouchers for the set lunchtime menu it felt overpriced and no way would we have gone in there without the vouchers. It felt very sad as I remember Cafe Rouge restaurants feeling very warm and inviting in the past, with a bustling atmosphere, but as we sat in the long silent restaurant talking in a whisper it felt quite depressing. We were pleased to leave the restaurant behind and get back outside. The toilets need attention, there was a picture on the wall with badly broken glass which needed removing. I would be very surprised if this restaurant was still here next year. Staff - great Food - average Atmosphere/restaurant - poor

A very warm welcome from Isaac. Have used many Cafe Rouge over the years, but most have closed near where m we live. I didn’t have my Gourmet card with me, but that prove to be a problem for Isaac to find me on the system. Great hot food, just as we remember. Very quiet when we arrived at just before 12.00 noon, missed breakfast but had a great lunch. I had the Confit Duck and my wife had the Butter nut squash Wellington, with an Apple pie to share for pudding. Lovely coffees with Oat milk was a big plus. Highly recommended, we will be returning.

I was slightly underwhelmed. The service is was excellent, friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a bit "tired", tables a bit "sticky" and the ladies toilet is shocking. It just needs a fresh paint job, regrouting around the basins , remove broken glass in picture frame, fix the locks on the toilet doors, replace cracked loo seat and clean the architrave behind the hand drier.

The wife and I visited for afternoon tea. There was a mixup on my part which I was worried would ruin the afternoon - but the manager Issac sorted out! Lovely staff and great food. Thanks for such an accommodating experience!! Will deffo be coming back and telling others.

Quick and good service, excellent reliable food. Good pricing and smart environment. Ideal for pre theatre meals. We had to be out by 7pm and they’re clearly used to working to that.

Visited in Dec 2023. We’ve eaten here before and it’s usually very good but on this occasion it was below standard. The fillet steak (£28) was chewy & full of nerves. Usually it’s succulent but not on this occasion. So they said they’d replace it, took 20 mins to bring it out to us which we weren’t that impressed with. We then hoped perhaps they’d offer a discount off the cost of the bill but that never happened. One other thing which was a disappointment, although this is more to do with changes to the menu (which is obviously a change nationwide) is there Pate. They e added wild mushrooms to it. We’ve eaten their pate many times and it’s always been excellent, why they e added wild mushrooms is a surprise and it has ruined a lovely pate. We left half of it as it wasn’t nice. Hopefully next year they will make the change back to the usual pate. So all in all, a very average & disappointing visit to what usually is one of our favourite restaurants in Stratford.

We were welcomed as we were arrived. Our teas and coffee arrived quickly - both great. When our breakfasts arrived they were warm, tasty and the portions were huge! The member of staff on duty was helpful, polite and nothing was too much trouble.

This was a birthday meal with a group of friends. We chose Cafe Rouge as 3 of us had been before and were keen to share the experience with our friends as we know they appreciate lovely food and good service. We all had a great time. Food and service were excellent, something on the menu to suit everyone. Sabina has been our waitress on both occasions and we couldn’t ask for a friendlier welcome or better service. Would definitely recommend and we will re visit.

My friend and I went there for a pre-theatre meal. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who, when she saw me struggling with the steps in, told me to go down the side and she would open a door and let me in that way. She also advised to sit at the front as there was a very large party of 50 teenagers coming in, also for a pre-theatre meal. I didn't get her name and sadly she finished her shift part way through our meal, but she was really lovely. I chose Moules Mariniere which was delicious, the gluten free toasted bread to go with was very good too. They served this with thin fries which alas, were very soggy, but because the rest was so good it didn't bother me. For desert I had a scoop each of mango and lemon sorbet. They did have some other lovely gluten free dessert options, but I just fancied some sorbet. The atmosphere was fab and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. A very pleasant place for a meal 👌🤗😘🤗

Five star for staff Three stars for food Very extremely hot restaurant in cold November.. Suited my parents as they like it hot I had to nip to loo to take some layers off. We had a mixture of different dishes. My hubby and father enjoyed the soup and bread. I had the pate which was a bit tasteless and the bread was dry. Four of us had steak, my Son is Vegan so he had the squash dish he said it was lovely. My father struggled with the steak. Lovely manager offered to change it but dad wanted to eat it struggling to cut it. A new knife and all was good. We had a bottle of Red which was nice. Overall the evening went well. I will say what a lovely Manager Issac was very helpful so alongside the other gentleman he gets 5 stars. Food just ok

I was looking forward to an evening meal and really wanted it to be good...but it was a disappointment. We arrived a bit earlier than our reserved table time, and we did ask if they could squeeze us in any earlier....which turned out to be a bit of a silly question as there were only two other diners in the entire building! That should have been a bit of a red flag really - it was 5pm on a Saturday evening and the place was almost empty (we'd walked past several restaurants that were busy). The two waiters were friendly, no issues with the staff at all. The meals came out quickly. One main meal had peas and sweetcorn with it that looked like frozen veg. The steak meal was pleasant but overpriced. It tasted no better (and had less/no better accompaniments ) than a £8 steak from Wetherspoons. I remember coming to Cafe Rouge a couple of years ago and finding the steak absolutely delicious - but this was just very basic and underwhelming. The other main was average. The quality that stood out for Cafe Rouge just isn't there any more. It now makes it very overpriced.

We used a Buy a gift voucher for here and wished we hadn't wasted it! My husband ordered the onion soup which was average, I had mushrooms on sourdough, this was tepid at best. Then we had the Chicken Breton which was pretty dreary and the Mac n cheese and a side salad, thank goodness for the salad as that was the only thing that tasted of anything. The Mac and cheese was completely tasteless and with no seasoning, the blandest thing I've ever eaten and again wasn't hot. Worst meal I've had and annoyed we wasted a gift on this place.

The manager (lovely guy) said that the Café Rouge chain was reduced to 14 restaurants throughout the UK. After this lunch I was tempted to say that I'd help reduce that to 13. Reasonable starters (mushrooms on sour bread, Calamari), Caesar salad an embarrassment. Plate full of lettuce leaves, no croutons couple of anchovies and that's it for nearly £15. Poulet Breton adequate. Decent Malbec wine. £39 with Gourmet Card - £53 without. A lot of money.

Decided to have something different - the vegetarian pie which came with a generous salad and boiled potatoes. My wife had the chicken burger with sweet potato fries. Both were served very hot which I like and came very quickly. Service by Sylvia was attentive and very pleasant.

My friend and I visited here this afternoon. The waiter was miserable. He didn’t ask us if we wanted a drink on arrival, instead he was clearing away plates and paying us no attention. Eventually he came over and asked us what we’d like to eat.I said we’d like to order sone drinks first, he said ‘of course’. I ordered sea bass and it was the worst ever, it came with new potatoes and a few green beans, it was covered in a horrible thick buttery sauce, all I ate was the fish. I’ve dined here many times and never had such a bad experience before. I don’t think I’ll be returning sadly.

Excellent all day afternoon tea with wonderful service and quality of food. Croque Monsieur Croque Champignon scones and cake with unlimited tea or coffee. Well worth a visit Extensive menu in nice environment

As a Stratford local, in the past we have considered Cafe Rouge as a bit of a tourist destination and not really bothered. However, this Saturday we thought it looked fairly quiet inside and decided to give it a go for breakfast. (A lot of the competing cafes and restaurants tend to too busy at the weekend in the mornings for the staff to properly cope.) What a result! Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine absolutely perfect. Decent coffee as well; somebody there clearly knows what they're buying in. All at a very reasonable price. Staff were fab and Isaac was as genial a host as one could possibly hope for, with a quick wit and surprisingly deep knowledge of statistics. This message is really for Stratford locals - you're missing out if you think Cafe Rouge is for the tourists, it is first rate and it is for everyone!

Early on a Thursday evening, plenty of space, a helpful waitress, some wine and a bowl of [really, really] tasty mussels. See you when I'm next in Stratford.

We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Service, food and value for money are always excellent. We sat outside in the sun and had a relaxed lunch.
