The Waterside Brasserie in Stratford-on-Avon

We’ve eaten at the Arden hotel twice now, once for a pre theatre dinner and once for cream tea. Both times were a major disappointment, pre theatre meal was cold with tiny portions and had a long wait to place order. The cream tea was probably the worst cream tea experience I’ve ever had. The staff didn’t have a clue what they were doing and it very poorly managed, we won’t be back unfortunately. Two stars because of location and beautiful decor.

This restaurant is good but, with little work, could be really excellent. Systems need tighter management and some staff would benefit from better English. Was this why the wrong meal was served perhaps? Staff need more training in customer services and dealing with situations. Food was mostly very good and some items (salmon and beetroot starter) were simply sublime. Having said all that we enjoyed our visit and will happily return

Met some friends here for some early birthday celebrations. Beautiful setting and great atmosphere, although it was quiet the staff were friendly and helpful and the afternoon tea was delicious.

We had a fantastic Christmas meal today with an exceptional host (Mems F+B assistant), Mems looked after us all very well and made it an enjoyable experience. The food was also absolutely stunning! Overall, was a wonderful experience and would highly recommend!

We had a wonderful pre-theatre dinner here - absolutely perfect location, being immediately opposite the Swan. Wonderful professional and attentive service, fantastic value dining and very nice environment. I couldn't fault it and would re-book again and again for pre-theatre dining.

We booked a table in the Brasserie for our 6th Wedding anniversary . From start to finish attention to detail was perfect and attention from anyone that served us was 10/10. We chose from the Festive menu and our Meal was absolutely beautiful. Never been able to fault this place and I’ve been coming here since I was a child as Dad worked at the RSC. We had our wedding reception here in 2017. The place has been redecorated since and it looks great . On booking our table online I added in the notes that I have a Sunflower seed allergy . I was told that ahead of our arrival the chef had removed their stock completely out of reach so there could be be no chance of it getting into the food . Amazing . Never had that before in a restaurant, so thank you . See you soon

Ate here as the restaurant seemed high end and attractive. Very pleasant service, shown to a nice table in airy, traditional dining room. The first problem was that the bar is located in the centre of the restaurant and was, when we visited, packed with a very noisy party of drinkers whose loud talk and laughter made conversation difficult. The menu was interesting, sophisticated and priced to match other local eateries. The service was attentive and friendly. Whatever this venue pays their chef, it’s not enough. Small portions are beautifully presented, but it became obvious that the ingredients were not the finest. Belly pork was served on an attractive bed of jus, creamy potatoes and carrot, but was not the most tender or tasty meat. It appears that a skilled cook is working with run of the mill supplies. They achieve miracles, but leave you thinking that access to artisan ingredients would produce a really special restaurant experience

Once again a lovely trip to No44 Brasserie in The Arden Hotel for a lovely hot latte coffee made extra special by Harry who made my day by taking the time to make me feel very welcome despite being busy accomodating a large party of people. I'm heartened that customer service is still important and that someone's actions can make all the difference to someone having a difficult day.

We have had a number of afternoon teas, and the one we had last Friday was one of the best, certainly a lot better to the one we had across the road! (RST). When I phoned to book I received great help from Rachel. The staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. The food was fresh, tasty with a varied selection. We would have liked a couple more finger sandwiches each at the expense of a couple of cakes, but that is personal choice. Also another pot of jam and more cream to service the 4 scones. However, a very enjoyable tea and we will be back.

Arrived on 3 June for Afternoon Tea which had been booked for some months. We were 30mins early but i thought id ask to see whether we could be accommodated, even just to sit inside as we had walked about enough. The lady I asked (not sure if she was the manager of the brasserie but she did have on a black suit jacket and sadly I didnt get her name) was very helpful and seated us straight away. The afternoon tea was perfect and so was the location. The staff were very attentive and I'm always amazed by how teas dont look much volume wise but you end up leaving full and in some cases you cant eat it all. Anyway thanks to the staff who served us and to the lady who seated us 30mins early we had a lovely time.

We had coffee on Sunday morning and liked the place so much we decided to book lunch and we weren’t disappointed. The staff are so attentive and friendly, the food was delicious we thoroughly enjoyed it. Visitamos la Brasserie No 4 para mi suegra 80 cumpleaños la semana en que entró en vigor la regla del 6. Supongo que en última instancia esto fue una bendición disfrazada, ya que originalmente 15 de nosotros debíamos celebrar con ella, pero se tuvieron que hacer otros arreglos para la otra mitad de la familia debido a las nuevas restricciones. Después de preguntarle a 2 miembros diferentes del personal dónde estaban las bebidas, finalmente las recibimos y pedimos nuestra comida. Los entrantes llegaron finalmente y fueron relativamente agradables. De las 4 cosas en el menú principal, 5 de nosotros optamos por la hamburguesa y uno de nosotros el pescado y patatas fritas. Todo parecía moverse muy lentamente, pero finalmente recibimos nuestras comidas principales. Enjoyed a perfectly cooked and presented sirloin steak, followed by a creme brulee. Really nice, but portions could have been larger - the brulee was delicious, but barely 1/2" deep. Oliver Twist came to mind!

Smart hotel with parking, the atmosphere in the restaurant was good but it was quiet . We had dinner with a great menu , tapas style so a bit different , it was excellently food the service was ok but not outstanding.

There were 6 friends for lunch in the restaurant, one gluten free. Only one other table was taken when we arrived so the restaurant was vertically empty. We had drinks before moving to our table. The restaurant was cold and lacked atmosphere. The service was very slow. The food was good but the choice was restricted to specific menus. The gluten free options was very limited and you couldn’t mix courses from the different menus. Overall very disappointing and will not return.

I already enjoyed many afternoon teas worldwide but this was simply the worst ever!One goes to enjoy aft. tea on special occasions to have a great time in cosy environment with delicious food. There was nothing like that. We were seated in the lounge. It felt cold, sterile, not cosy at all. There was not a single decoration nor a flower. We sat next to the electrical fireplace which could have been lighted easily. No effort was made to create nice atmosphere in rainy day. Re food: it was ok at best, no effort to create something memorable and different from other places. First sandwiches came - on plate, not tray as usual. Then the rest - finally on trays which were removed and plates left on table disorganized. We ordered both sweet and savoury teas. Sandwiches - average, no thoughts given to create something new. Cakes: macaron, lemon mer. and chocolate cake - no invention to have something else than the rest of the world. Worse - savoury afternoon tea: sausage roll - oily, salmon rarebit - just ok, duck pate - liquidy, mini quiche - cut in a half probably not to get too full.... Portions were one bite size. We received just one bowl with clotted cream for 3 of us and 2 mini jars of marmelade ! We had to ask for more. Service - polite but very limited provided there was no one else. We had to search for waiters. For the price charged this was a true rip off. No atmosphere, nothing to remember, we left hugely dissapointed. Don´t go as there is nothing to look forward to!

It’s been a few months since we’ve eaten here and the Restaurant has had a subtle but timely refurb. A new Menu too, which has a modern Tapas selection as part which we tried tonight. Very good indeed. Some tasty fish dishes, a good selection of vegetarian, and some tasty meat dishes. Reasonably priced and we found six portions to be ample for the two of us. Would highly recommend.

Came for afternoon tea today.Venue was lovely.. But wouldn't recommend. Waiting 5-10 mins, stood in front of bar where staff stood and spoke to each other ignoring us.Got seated, by a lovely lady.There was a man who came out with our cakes, stood holding them waiting awkwardly for us to clear room on the table, as he'd removed the side table.Cakes were nice, but scones were very chewy, and came with lemon curd, not cream.Very disappointing for the price.

Visited for afternoon tea, was seated in a lovely dining area and was promptly offered tea or coffee we decided on one sweet and one savoury tea to share both. Sandwiches were a bit of a letdown so were the sweet scones but the savoury scones were amazing. Wasn’t the most comfortable of a table and chairs but overall an enjoyable experience.It isn’t cheap and a service charge was added which I am not a fan of and think this is very old school nowadays, however by doing it this way they actually did themselves out of more as I had a cash tip waiting which was actually more than they added

Fui el domingo pasado con 3 amigos como regalo y como parte de un fin de semana anual. Cuando llegamos no había nadie alrededor para saludarnos o mostrarnos dónde estábamos sentados. Caminamos y finalmente encontramos a un miembro del personal que nos llevó a una habitación y se sentó en una mesa baja con asientos muy bajos. ¡No es un buen comienzo! Los sándwiches se servían en un plato y no la vajilla habitual que esperábamos. Luego se sirvieron pasteles y bollos y finalmente una selección de salados. No podía entender por qué la selección dulce no se sirvió al final. La comida estaba bien, nada especial teniendo en cuenta el precio que nos cobraron. Para terminar, los 4 pedimos una bebida alcohólica, 2 ginebras, un vino blanco y una rosa. Cuando llegó la factura, nos horrorizamos al ver cuánto habían cobrado por esto. El más caro es 11. 35 por una copa de vino blanco! ¿Cómo puede alguien justificar esto? Para agregar insulto a la lesión, había un cargo por servicio opcional de más de 13 años que nos negamos a pagar. ¡Nos sentimos totalmente estafados y odio ser estafado! En general, fue una experiencia muy pobre. ¡No recomendado!

Llegó para el té de la tarde que se muestra en una habitación pequeña. La camarera vino y tomó su orden y la tetera y los bocadillos llegaron debidamente. La puerta de la habitación se cerró. Después de comer nuestros sándwiches nos sentamos y nos sentamos en una habitación vacía esperando que llegaran nuestros pasteles. No vinieron, así que tuve que ir a buscar un miembro del personal. we've eaten at the Arden many times before popping over the road to a play, the last time being a few days ago. The food has almost always been very good, It's always a bit more expensive than across the road at the Rooftop, where the food is equally is good, but it's nice to alternate, and the Arden has a garden. The Arden service is not quite so attuned to theatre performance start times, so if you are going to the theatre, be sure to mention it, On the latest visit, I had to nudge things along to get out in time, but we had no problem and enjoyed the meal. I think the restaurant was renamed No. 44 from The Riverside to coincide with this year's summery menu, which is tapas-based. There is a separate pre-theatre menu. We've eaten from the tapas menu three times and enjoyed it all.

We had vegetarian and vegan afternoon tea here as part of a virgin experience. The food was delicious and our service from May was exceptional.

Popped in for a couple of glasses of dry white wine. Greeted by a sign asking that we wait to be seated but no waiter to be seen. After waiting for a few minutes, went inside the bar and ordered the drinks. Stunned to be given a bill for over £22 - for just two glasses of wine! They were regular size too – hate to think what a large would have cost! Declined and left. Surprising as my partner and I had visited for drinks only a couple of months previously and had not been charged anything like £11 for a glass of wine. We won’t be back.

I booked afternoon tea for a treat for my friend for her birthday. Having had lots of afternoon teas I think this one was my least favourite.

We were treated to an afternoon tea which we duly booked. Staff very welcoming. Seated in an annex room. The sandwiches arrived which amounted to three finger cut variations of flavour/bread type and a quarter piece each of a very very dark brown one. They were nice but when you think that we didnt have four slices of bread between us and some of the edges were a bit dry and the presentation looked as if they had just been plonked on the plate didnt give themselves much credit. The cakes were nice. The scones were warm. Plenty of cream and jam. We didnt finish them all and I enquired about a "takeaway" for what was left. Not a problem. Staff very helpful. I looked at the price £46 for 2 people phew a bit over the top. Hope those that treated us didnt pay that much. It was ok but feel very overpriced

We eat here quite a lot, particularly as it’s so convenient for the theatre. The food is of a good standard and the service is efficient and speedy. I wouldn’t class this restaurant as fine dining, but it is reliable. A safe bet.

Having allergies such as gluten free, dairy free and soya, I can’t remember the last time I had a high tea. Well I was very impressed with the thoughtfulness that went into serving a tea free from the above.

First time visit with family for lunch at The Arden Hotel. We were sit down at the terrace, beautiful RSC theter view . The menu was great two style option to share or not to share, we've been recommend and explained the menu by Mae she was very helpful and well looking after all of us.

We have loved this place for years but last week having booked for dinner, table wasn't ready, and after waiting for fifteen minutes found tables still dirty and group of staff having a chat. When they eventually deigned to serve us, service was slow and lackadaisical, tho food was still good.

We have been here a couple of times before and always we had a good experience.This time we was served by "bee"May .Absolutely incredible waitress looked after everything from start to finish.She was always smiling, helpful in making suggestions , quickand efficient, and thoroughly delightful.. Una buena variedad de tés para elegir o simplemente café si lo prefiere, una buena variedad de sándwiches (todos con cortezas) y una excelente selección de tartas y bollos con crema coagulada, mermelada de frambuesa y crema de limón. We visited on a lovely hot day, sat outside and order Cocktails and a light lunch.Sadly by the time the food had arrived I was so old my teeth and fallen out! We chased up our drinks order several times and were eventually told they had run out of Tequila. Replacement order was made and it took an age to arrive. In fairness the drinks, food and staff were all okay just very slow indeed. Its a nice spot close to the river.

Recent refurbishment of the restaurant and menu has resulted in a menu that is no longer friendly for theatre goers. Previously one could have a two or three course menu at a very reasonable price and even have a dessert during the interval. Now a sharing or a la carte menu is much more expensive and less satisfactory.

Firstly, I can't fault the staff and the quality of the afternoon tea here. The sandwiches, cakes and selection of teas were excellent and very enjoyable. However, the afternoon was tea was advertised as £17.95 per person. We needed to pay in a hurry as we had to be somewhere and didn't realise till later on that we'd paid £50.49 - we didn't have any extras so we contacted the hotel via email as we should have been charged £35.90. After no response we emailed again but still haven't heard anything. The hotel have failed to respond to either email. Very disappointed.

Delicious food from the sharing menu, scallops and cod were amazing. Only suggestion would be to stagger the serving of the dishes so we had more time to savour each one.

This WAS a great restaurant with excellent food, well presented and always freshly prepared. I've always been impressed at how the food always came piping hot and on hot plates, as it should be. The new menu with its bewildering number of choices and pricing options, barely any vegetarian, doesn't work and to boot, the food was not good. Lukewarm, measly portions, under seasoned! If one diner chooses from the small plates, and the other from the non-sharing menu, you're not eating at the same time as small plates come out as and when ready! Please re-think team! We still want to be fans!!!

GONE - the very popular pre theatre dinner menu. IN a bewildering choice of sharing bowls or a vegetarian - less a la carte menu. A fellow diner commented, 'I don't have an hour to work out this menu'. Sharing bowls are fine for a leisurely evening but pre theatre diners want the old traditional menu back please.

Había investigado este lugar y esperaba una excelente experiencia culinaria. La experiencia que tuvimos fue una comida pobre y un servicio horrible. Cuando llegamos, no nos ofrecieron ninguna bebida hasta que estuvimos listos para pedir comida y luego, como el personal era tan esquivo, no hubo oportunidad de pedir otra. Comimos del menú compartido y nos informaron que los platos se comprarían cuando estuvieran listos, ya que todo estaba recién preparado, a pesar de que todo estaba tibio y, en el peor, frío. La comida comenzó a llegar antes de que nos hubieran comprado platos. Cuando se entregaron los postres, los cubiertos que se dieron tenían un gran trozo de chocolate y cuando pedí otra, la camarera la inspeccionó a fondo, ¡por lo que no tengo idea!

This was a gift not to be repeated. Poor selection of sandwiches, scones were dry, cakes were ok. Service was diabolical.

The restaurant more or less overlooks The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had the set menu in the evening before the theatre which offered a 2 or 3 course menu with 3 or 4 choices in each section. It was very good value and well cooked.

Opting for the pre-show dinner at the Brasserie was a delicious and convenient option before going to an RSC performance. The ambience was quiet and relaxing with the staff being completely attentive and efficient. The food and drinks were delicious.

We stayed in the hotel but only actually ate here one night but there is a decent choice of dishes on the menu and the food was lovely and well presented, highly recommended

On arrival we sat outside my partner went to change our daughter and asked the waiter to bring out a menu which he did your waiter approached me with a smirk on his face an looked me up and down I thought nothing of it until I went to order my drinks of which I was disgusted… He said I cannot offer you table service I said why not he said I have been advised by my manager you have to go to the bar to order, I said well what about the table that has just sat down you have gave them table service he then looked me up and down smirked and said people have been ordering and walking off without paying im sorry but my manager has advised that YOU have to order at the bar…. I have stopped at this hotel on 6-7 occasions im sitting there with my family and it was embarrassing I asked to speak to the manager who told me he didn’t say this and decided to offer us table service .. this is only because he didn’t want to cause a scene in the dining room I asked for his name he refused I asked for the waiters name he refused, He offered us a free drink for the upset caused which to be fair we did have but looking back I wish I never bothered… never again will I stop at this hotel or stop by and have a drink. The management think they are better than the customers they serve………. Never have I been so embarrassed.. an utter disgrace and a real shame as I love the hotel….

We visited the Arden Hotel yesterday for afternoon tea and it was absolutely delicious! The sandwiches were lovely, really fresh and lovely fillings and the cakes and scones were delicious! Can’t wait to come back for another one!!

Would not reccommend this place for afternoon tea. It is a beautiful place however, the service and food is terrible. Truly dissapointed having been given this experience as a gift I wish I had exchanged it for something else.

Lovely hotel and great location, but when I booked for dinner a month or so ago was not advise hotel restaurant would be under going a refurb also I ordered a vodka and Diet Coke, went to order a second and they had no more vodka, what hotel runs out. Went out and got a bottle ourselves, could they not have done that. Don’t really drink anything else and first night away for ages, so was looking forward to relaxing and enjoying a few drinks without the responsibilities of our children.

As we had tickets for the Merry Wives of Windsor, we thought we would have afternoon tea at the Arden Hotel.

We recently visited the Arden to celebrate our daughter’s 30th birthday. This was our first choice of venue. We have dined at this contemporary hotel on several occasions and have never been let down. The menu is extensive and great VFM. I decided to mail across our food selection beforehand which meant that we were able to relax and mingle on arrival. We were invited to our table by an extremely welcoming and attentive member of the waiting staff. The wine was chilled and 5 minutes later we were wining and dining. The food met with our expectations and the whole experience wasn’t second to none. Thanks to all at the Arden for making this another memorable event.

What a difference almost a year makes! In January of this year my friend and I were going to the RSC and at about 5pm went into the Arden Hotel and asked if we could have afternoon tea? Although it was very busy with a lot of tables occupied, we were made very welcome and were allowed to sit at our table until it was time for the

Somos residentes de Stratford upon Avon de más de 60 años. Como dueños de negocios en la ciudad nos gusta apoyar los numerosos restaurantes de nuestra ciudad. Recientemente tuvimos un festival gastronómico en el cual, en el folleto que se anuncia en las listas, The Brasserie Brasside en The Arden Hotel utiliza los mejores ingredientes de temporada y es famoso por su pescado y papas fritas de Arden. Como tenemos pescado y papas fritas localmente todos los viernes como un regalo, decidimos probarlas. El primer viernes fuimos pero nos rechazaron porque había una fiesta. El viernes siguiente, que era el fin de semana del festival gastronómico, fuimos a la Brasserie donde la recepción fue helada, casi grosera y desagradable. Nos preguntaron si habíamos reservado una mesa o si éramos residentes. No respondiendo a ninguno de los dos, solo a los lugareños, la camarera se tomó un tiempo considerable solo para mirar la lista de reserva y finalmente nos mostró una mesa en la que el restaurante estaba vacío con solo otras dos personas comiendo. Nos dieron el menú y los especiales de la noche, ¡a los cuales el famoso pescado y papas fritas de Arden no estaban en la lista! Insatisfecho, decepcionado, nos fuimos!

Una comida bastante agradable y la comida buena en general. Estoy seguro de que todo el personal tiene sus noches de descanso y nuestra crítica sería que la noche que íbamos a la dama (jefe). Parecía que ella realmente no quería estar allí, el caballero similar pero no tanto, pero el joven camarero fue muy útil.

Unlike The Patisserie Valerie in Oxford, The Waterside in The Arden Hotel was super!

It would have been a much more pleasant dining experience if we hadn't been so very near tables either side of us. Food was good.

Good price for pre-7 pm menu (one, two or three courses). Food excellent (out at correct time and piping hot), but staff wonderful.

We were welcomed and shown to a table where everything was explained. Had lots of tea and coffee. The afternoon tea was really lovely and very filling. Not sure of price and this was a present. Would highly recommend.

We wanted a nice dining experience before the theater, and this just fit the bill. In fact, we got in on their special of 2 courses for £16. We chose main course and dessert. Lovely.

A weekend away in Stratford, strolling around the area, we saw a few vacant tables outside and decided to stop for lunch

Gift afternoon tea for our 40th wedding anniversary....

I was a little disappointed here, even though the restaurant was close to the theatre, which is what we wanted. Pedestrian menu and quite expensive

Usually we eat at Carluccios but my family stayed here overnight after visiting the theatre, so we met up here for an early dinner. Very nice dining room and we were able to sit outside first for drinks, service was excellent and food beautifully presented,for me little choice of gluten free though, and no bread put on the table, even ordinary bread, however the food was good and didn't seem expensive, although I didn't see the final bill, altogether a very nice meal and a nice change.

I took my elderly parents to The Waterside Brasserie for sunday lunch.
