It's been a while Chez Jules! But you didn't disappoint. Delicious food. Great service. Buzzing atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Fascinating decor. Vibrant, happening place. Love, love, love the dressing on the salad you serve with the bread, olives and charcuterie at the start of the meal. Superbe! Merci bien. I will be back soon with other friends. 👏👏👏👏👏 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This place was recommended to me by a friend and boy it was so good. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced despite being in the city centre of Edinburgh. I would recommend anyone to book a table before going as it is crowded and full. We went aa a family of 6 and an infant and it was below £200 but that’s the price without any alcohol. Surf and turf was £30 and full lobster was £32.40. I personally prefer it a bit quieter but hey ho it’s good that’s why is busy!

Coming to Edinburgh, booked restaurants? Cancel them, book here. Service - brilliant, food - amazing, wine - incredible. Why did we not come here years ago, huge thanks to the kitchen, the front of house, value for money this place is on its own in Edinburgh, three of us ate, cocktails, wine, starters and mains for just over £100, WOW. They need a bigger place as it was rammed on a Wednesday evening. Loved it 👏👏👏

Cramped and noisy. Steak was completely inedible. Waitress took it away and brought back same steak which had obviously just been put in microwave and burnt to a crisp. Cheap prices, cheap cuts of meat.

Firstly, the atmosphere is amazing: the decor, the lighting, the music, loved it all. I can see this being a great place for a date too. The staff was so good too! Now onto the food: The starters we had were amazing, I especially enjoyed the mussels, and the mackerel salad. The mains were a mixed bag: the lamb shank was very well seasoned and cooked, but the macaroni was disappointing, the cheeses really didn't come through so it was very bland. The desserts where beautiful and I absolutely loved the panna cotta. And the wines were all great, especially for the price. Overall, very happy with everything! Would definitely go again.

We went here for my friend’s birthday dinner. I’ve been many times and it’s always great. Three of us had the steak frites with the garlic butter option which was delicious. One friend had the half roast chicken with chips. The plating of this dish was very in your face the way the knife sticks out of the dish. We also order dauphinois to share which were absolutely excellent and I wish I could eat them every day. We shared two desserts between two which were also yummy. Very quick service as always!

Some of the best French food I have eaten outside France and better than most I have eaten in France. Yes it does get crowded and noisy but if that worries you, go after the 4 pm set lunch menus stop. They are incredibly good value so naturally attract crowds. On the main menu the frogs legs and boudin noir starters were both superb as were the bavette and filet mignon steaks that followed. High quality meat perfectly cooked. Pomme Dauphinois as good as it gets. Some reviews have complained about the very overworked waiting staff but I found them efficient and coping well with the high pressure of a crowded and a bit cramped restaurant. If you find them a wee bit less than shall I say fawning then that just reinforced the French ambiance. Strongly recommended.

As a French national, I can honestly say this: their French food is better than ours!! I had an absolute feast at Chez Jules, and everything from the French fries, the rumpsteak, the gratin dauphinois to the green salad was exquisite. Value for money?? Through the roof. On top of that, the restaurant is the cutest thing, filled with laughter yet intimate. The TLDR: I understand a hip and trendy restaurant however, the wait staff could and should be a lot more attentive. I was very surprised to see that on a busy night such as Mother’s Day, the kitchen would be ahead of the waitstaff and food runners. We made an in-person reservation earlier in the week for Mother’s Day at 8:00pm. Once we arrived, we were thankfully greeted and seared by the manager right away. The waitstaff started strong, immediately bringing out the baguette, saucisson, and salad but from then, it took 25 minutes for them to return for us to order a bottle of wine, appetizers, and mains. We ordered: - Escargots - Soupe gratinĂ©e s l’onion - Terrine de campagne - Le steak frites, 3 with au poivre sauce, and 1 with beayonnaise To our surprise, the escargots were unevenly hot and just warm. The manager advised us to be careful when eating because the cast iron was incredibly hot however, it was only warm to the touch. Some of the escargots were colder than others. The soupe was also cold — the GruyĂšre wasn’t melted and the soup itself was slightly above lukewarm, meaning it was likely left sitting for quite some time under a warmer before it made it to our table. Les Steak Frites were good however, they ran out of beayonnaise sauce. Remember, I mentioned this was 8pm on Mother’s Day and while I understand the restaurant was busy, a more attentive wait staff would understand the sauce is running low and let the diner know rather than give a mere dollop and say “sorry, we’re running out,” when delivering the plates. It’s worth mentioning she didn’t offer another sauce either. She simply dropped the plates and carried on. Also, a beayonnaise isn’t that time-consuming to make. So to run out during the dinner service is interesting. At this point, it was nearly 10pm and with the understanding that the restaurant was set to close then, we finished up our mains and asked for the bill. Once the bill was dropped after 10pm, no one came to collect for at least 20 additional minutes. It wasn’t until my friend went around to find and ask a staff member to pay that we were able to settle the bill and leave. On our way out, we didn’t hear a goodbye, thank you, or goodnight from the staff. Overall, the food was good but not a great experience and I'm happy to not have been celebrating my mother with that level of service.

I love this restaurant and the food is always great. I have been many times but the tables are way too close together now - the waiters kept knocking my chair trying to get past and being right next to a busy kitchen doesn’t provide the best atmosphere on top of being knocked, as well as basically sitting on a table with strangers because they’re so close. This French bistro was recommended to us by Edinburgh friends and we were certainly not disappointed. It was a latish Saturday night for which we had booked - post Calcutta Cup match - so we needed a nice place to cheer ourselves up after losing to Scotland. The staff were most helpful and found us a corner table in a packed restaurant with hardly any room to move between the tables. Luckily for us a couple in a quiet alcove were just leaving and we were able to have their table so at least there was now a chance of a conversation between us - despite some loud music which certainly added to the already lively atmosphere. Fine for youngsters but a challenge for a couple of oldies. The food however made up for that. First rate French onion soup followed by the biggest bowl of moules that I have ever seen. It was a challenge to finish them - but we did. Impeccable, really helpful team and a fine choice for our last night in Edinburgh. Real French style and efficiency.

We brought an extra person to the restaurant, and called before hand to ask if we could squeeze them in and we were given the green light by one of her colleagues. She proceeded to legitimately scream at me and scold me for not listening to her as if she was a school teacher. I recognise that at times it can be stressful balancing numbers in her workspace but there is no excuse for bad manners and for speaking to human beings like that, let alone customers! The rest of the staff were absolutely lovely and we had a great evening apart from her 2 minute authoritarian tirade. I have truly never been spoken to like that before and our entire table of 13 people had mouths gaping in shock. Fantastic french food with a fun, bustling atmosphere by candlelight. Came here on a late last minute reservation after two other restaurants turned us away being fully booked. So we weren't expecting much but it turned out to be a real gem! The meal started with complimentary warm bread, salad and snacks. Love it when restaurants do this, really makes you feel welcome. I had the 'steak au poivre' for main course, which came served with a side of dauphinoise potatoes. The steak was nice, absolutely swimming sauce which made it juicy and flavourful. The dauphinoise were decent, but rustic. Potatoes cut rather thick, sauce rather thin. Still good though. Wife had the whole lobster which was roasted to perfection. Unfortunately she felt a bit full (blame the pre-dinner snacks...) and wanted to take the rest home in a bag. However, they refused on the grounds that their policy is to not allow seafood to be taken away since it can go off and give them trouble, which was a bit annoying but understandable. Also meant I had to finish off the lobster claws by myself, woe is me :) The atmosphere is noteworthy, in that this restaurant was packed to the gills even at 9.30, every other table seemed to be on a birthday night out (4 rounds of singing happy birthday no less), and everyone was young and chatting at great volume. We really enjoyed it, but probably something to avoid if you're looking for a bit more of a relaxing evening.

We arrived without a booking on a Sunday night and the restaurant was absolutely packed solid, the restaurant was bursting with noise of happiness and the ambiance was bursting. We was told that we couldn’t get in till eight pm so we went for a drink a bar near by and returned and what a treat we was in for. We wanted crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e but they was sold out and I chose the panna cotta and it was like a dream, I can only imagine how good the creme brĂ»lĂ©e would have been. We found the service second to none in a very busy restaurant with limited space, candle light adds to the ambience, we will return when we are back in Edinburgh great service and great food thank you for the experience. Very reasonably priced, potatoes done all ways was superb, Five stars from us

Sadly, Chez Jules is not what it used to be. I visited twice in December with friends and on both occasions the service was diabolical and really spoilt the experience. The 'manager' is very rude and obviously cares more about the financial side of the...

Absolutely fantastic, everything was seasoned to perfection. A wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff although it can be quite busy so you may end up waiting a bit to be seated.
