Very nice Place near the University. Best Lunch I had in Aberdeen. Kindly People.

Such a lovely, quaint cafe, absolutely delighted that I found it here, on Google. The service was excellent, the waitress not only recommended stuff to try but also made sure we were happy with what we ordered. Would be visiting again and highly recommend to others too.

A bowl of coconut spicy lentil soup was delicious, and the scone was very light, with a hard outside, just the way I like them. A bit pricey but hey, welcome to 2024.

Quaint lunch eateries. The staff are warm and welcoming. If you are planning on lunch best to book to avoid disappointment. Large array of cakes. Highly recommend this place.

The cafe is quite homey. The staff were really nice, and got our orders quickly. Soup of the day was delicious, as was the cappuccino and scones (one of the best in the city) we ordered. Will definitely go again

Best coffee and brownies in Old Aberdeen

Great coffee, but be warned, it is very busy being at the center of the campus. They also have a large selection of food and sweets, along with a pleasant patio out back. Would recommend as a student and visitor.

Kuscheliges kleines Café über mehrere Etagen in Old Aberdeen. Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Ganz lieb. Wir hatten Tee, Cappuccino und Salat. Das Essensangebot ist sehr abwechslungsreich. Der Salat war lecker. Mir fehlte ein schönes Dressing und die Menge an grünem Salat war etwas übersichtlich. All over aber alles fein.

Always a favourite for me, great menu, nice atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. The Tzatziki salad is a favourite for me, and the cakes are amazing, especially the cheesecakes. I think the prices are fair for the quality of food and service. We like to sit in the garden at the back or get take away and enjoy them in the botanics. £1-£10 if having coffee + cake, £10-20 for lunch etc.

The place is right next to the university and it's got a nice old world charm. It's a great place to hang out with friends and the food never disappoints. Their soups and falafel salad is a must try.

Oh wow. This was not so much a restaurant lunch as it was a wraparound friendly and tasty experience. The staff were quick, efficient, and acted like a well-bonded team, helping each other and their customers to get the most out of lunch in this quaint setting, with a multitude of rooms and outdoor spaces that must make it difficult to get around with plates of hot food and cups of delicious drinks. A request for travel/place information was passed on very quickly to someone who had the answers and I felt like I was in the friendly hub at the centre f Old Aberdeen, where students, tourists and locals are all made to feel special. The soup of the day was an interesting "broccolli, spinach and pea" combination, which was also offered in a half portion and, trust me, that's quite enough along with the (possibly artisan?) bread, but if you combine it with an outrageously large-but-scrumptious scone, well, you might struggle to progress to the lovely cheesecakes I saw others enjoying. Judging from the number and variety of happy customers, lots of people agreed with me. Going back to treat my friends some time soon.

There are a number of cafes and restaurants in Old Aberdeen this was a great choice for us. The cafe is located upstairs and there is a takeaway downstairs. Once upstairs the cafe is compact, and it was pretty busy. The menu choice was perfect as we were hoping for some soup on a dreich day. We also had coffee and cake to complete our visit. All in all we were well pleased with our visit.

My friends and I have been visiting Kilau since we started uni here in 2019. We love it so much that all our family have visited too now! The staff are always lovely and the food is consistently delicious. I love going for the soup of the day and the cheesecakes are the best I've ever had.

Wonderful cafe. Excellent coffee, delicious food - we had the vegan breakfast & the sweet potato crepe - & the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. Sat in the sunshine in harming courtyard garden. Friendly & efficient service. Highly recommended.

Came here twice over two days (a Friday and a Saturday) and it was great both times. Really nice little terrace in the back, and really nice staff who went over and above. Good sandwiches on sourdough, too!

The coffee is great and the muffin! One of the greatest coffee in aberdeen I must say and very good service. Unfortunately not a place for student to have coffee and study or work even located in Aberdeen University.

I've not been here in a few years, but stopped off at the weekend for a coffee as I was in the area, and the coffee is still some of the best I've ever had. I also had a brownie which was lovely too.

On my first visit to Aberdeen, came across this cute little café which has the most welcoming team. Coffee was outstanding, cliché but I have not had better. Surrounding area is quaint, near University of Aberdeen.

Somehow, one of the most expensive coffees in Scotland. I thought because it was inside the university campus it would be cheaper… I got charged £4 for a latte? Not sure if they were trying to scam me. There are much nicer and cheaper places around. Will never go again.

Lovely place with friendly staff and a positive vibe around. Great variation of coffee (including half caffeinated) and the cakes are very tasty. I love their almond chocolate cake.

Had my first visit to Kilau Coffee yesterday. We trudged there in horrible, snowy conditions and I was hoping it was worth it tbh ..... It was! I felt welcomed and looked after. Lovely coffee (and I’m very picky) and tempting choice of breakfast/brunch items, gorgeous scones and cakes. Different dietary requirements are clearly marked. As we left to go back into snowy Old Aberdeen, a long line of people were making their way in to have lunch. I would have loved to stay longer but there’s always the next time.

I have loved Kilau Coffee coffee since it opened. Back today for the first time since covid...photo says it all 😍

Been here a few times now, food is tasty and good service. The soup, scones, savory crepes, and cheesecakes are all good. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Just be aware lunchtimes during term time can be very busy.

Everything is just great quality, food is great, but a bit pricey. Worth it though. Best brownie i have wver had.

The very best place to get coffee in the area. Also the baguettes are amazing as are the crepes. There is both a downstairs takeaway area and an upstairs seating area. It is hard to find the upstairs at first but it is up the stairs to the right of the door to the downstairs cafe.

Lovely little cafe, very friendly and well loved by everyone on campus. Prices are slightly more expensive but worth it for what you get and the service. Food is great and very tasty. Coffee is like great and very strong. I usually have a hot choc which is always good with a plant-based milk. Simple but well chosen menu. Offers plenty of vegan and veggie options. Sit in upstairs or takeaway downstairs. Closed during University holidays.

Being a student at Aberdeen University, it's hard to be on campus without popping in to Kilau for a coffee. They're the best coffee shop in Aberdeen! The sandwich shop downstairs is open Mon-Fri and offers a huge selection of baguettes, wraps and salads - all made fresh, absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for students. The vegan pesto on sourdough is a go-to for me - so, so tasty. Homemade soup and fresh cheese scones are also made each morning too - YUM. They also have a selection of cakes, pastries and bakes - don't even get me started on the white choc and raspberry brownie (GF)... it's quite possibly the best brownie I've ever eaten. Cheesecake galore with different flavours most days and options for vegans, DF, GF, etc. Perhaps my favourite thing though is the coffee. I love my coffee, and their coffees are delicious. The baristas always take time over each coffee - never in a rush over someone's drink and making it to perfection. Very accommodating with allergies and intolerances - I can't have dairy and they always have plenty plant-based options available. The staff are always friendly and the cafe is a very cosy, happy place to be in. A great spot for takeaway or sit-in lunch if you're in Aberdeen. It's family-run and kids are always welcome. It's a huge hit with students, lecturers and members of staff on campus. You can tell by the queues outside the shop in the morning - everyone lining up to get their Kilau coffee, the best way to start the day.

Delicious sandwiches, especially the spur dough rolls. Good vegan and vegetarian options. Coffee is Delicious and unpretentious, served by plenty of staff who are lovely and upbeat. Definitely one of the best cafes locally and that I've been to in a while. Slightly more expensive than other nearby options, but absolutely worth it.

Was shown to a very dirty table / chairs which had stained cushions on them. Was there for 10 mins without anybody bringing a menu, then I got up and asked somebody who very bluntly said ‘somebody will come to your table’. Nobody came for at least another 5 mins, then a menu gets slammed on the table without a word… Nobody came to take my order for a further 10 minutes and had to leave as had already been there half an hour! Such bad customer service

I have a lot of food intolerances and Kilau's menu nearly made me cry (in a good way). Loved my FODMAPS friendly buckwheat crepe and the chocolate almond cake was divine. Staff are super-friendly and welcoming. Perfect!

I love my coffee, and my Gaggia is the one piece of kitchen equipment I would miss most. The best coffee in my experience, has always been in Italy, and Italians would be incensed, if standards slipped in their country. Sadly, the autostrada chains, eg Autogrill, have already broken through the €1 barrier for a caffe (espresso). So much of the so-called coffee revolution in the UK over the last couple of decades, has been due to the rise of the ubiquitous and poor quality coffee chain, none of whom have got anywhere near the Italian gold standard, and charge outrageously high prices for dreadful coffee, presumably to cover their rent and overheads, but more pertinently, because they cater for, let’s be honest, a type of clientele, who cannot tell the difference between bang average coffee, and the real thing. This is not a criticism, but a fact of marketing over substance. Anyone asking for a caffe latte, often pronounced as a cringe-making “lartay”, clearly isn’t particularly interested in insisting on the quality of what is served up from behind the counter. To be fair, there are a good number of independent coffee shops in the UK, who do offer high quality coffee. But the coffee at Kilau, in my humble opinion, tops the lot. The muffins had just been baked, and melted in the mouth. Kisumu is in the heart of Old Aberdeen, and well worth a detour.

One of the best coffees I've ever had. I strongly recommend getting a latte with a blondie, you won't regret it.
