Lasun in South Tyneside

Called in for a take away.. placed order and had a couple of drinks while we waited. As was getting prepared a customer came in as his order was wrong. We then took our meal home and our order was also wrong?? Rang them and after Spanish Inquisition realised they had gave us the wrong order. Over priced anyways to start with, won’t be back to eat but only to get the money they owe us

I came here recently for my birthday night meal. As there was 8 of us I booked ahead. Even though when we arrived we were told we didn't have a booking this was rectified by the highly competent staff. Anyways ..... The food man. It's just straight up delicious in every conceivable way. I had the mixed starter to share and everything on it was incredible. Followed that bad boy up with a lamb phall which was awesome, though try telling that to my tender butt in the morn.... Totally worth it. Well played Lasun .. till we meet again

We've been coming here for ages and I just realised that I'd not left a review. The place is quite small so it's very intimate. The staff are amazing, nothing is a bother to any of them. The food is fantastic, we've never had a disappointing meal. There are cheaper Indian restaurants in town but there are none better.

My wife and I discovered this restaurant after a long walk and had planned to go to the Indian restaurant on the opposite side of the road. We decided to give this place a go. Friendly happy greeting at the door started the whole evening off fantastic. I really wasn’t expecting much if I’m honest just your usual Indian fair. How wrong was I my wife always orders a plain chicken curry and I chicken tikka masala. We ordered the usual accompaniments poppadom, rice & naan and some onion bhajis boring choices but always safe if you’re hungry. Oh and two pints of Cobra. The spicy sauce served with the popadoms was delicious ( we were warned) it was hot but really flavoursome. I kept on eating it even though it was burning my mouth if that makes any sense. Main courses came with just enough time to not feel rushed and again happy knowledgeable staff well trained smart and professional. The food tasted outstanding my wife said she had never experienced a plain chicken curry that tasted as good. I had to have a taste expecting a bland tasting curry. WRONG it was packed full of amazing flavours. You could tell this wasn’t a dish that was thrown together . A great deal of thought went into the spice choices here it shined through. All of the dishes were presented well and really importantly hot and on hot plates. After the meal we chatted to the waiter who went in depth into what they are trying to create. I got put in my place when I said the plain chicken curry was amazing and that I usually think they are boring. He said “ No plain chicken curry is the mother of all curries “ what a great statement and so true. If you can’t do the basics right it’s never going to be right. We left feeling happy and we will be going back to see what else is on that menu of theirs. Long review but they deserve a decent mention. We have been in Indian restaurants in a lot of places in many cities with amazing reputations. It’s great to discover little gems like this in the backstreets of Shields making it work through difficult times. It’s worth a visit in our opinion give them a go. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not the easiest to find - certainly on Google or Apple maps or a satnav; but eventually found it then asked if I could sit down and order - but it was too late to eat in - even though it wasn’t 9:30 and it closed at 11!

Wow I’ve been eating Indian food in restaurants for 40 years and think I’ve just found the best one yet. Lasun is a little bit away from the popular Ocean road where there are so many great Indian restaurants but Lasun is hands down the best I’ve been to. Right from walking in the door the staff couldn’t be more welcoming and friendly the restaurant has a nice welcoming, modern feel to it. Then there’s the food there was 4 of us dining and we couldn’t fault one thing our waiter was really helpful and knowledgeable and was able to recommend different meals to all of our different tastes he even brought out a couple of things that he wanted us to try which were amazing and he didn’t put on the bill all in all we had an amazing 3 courses the staff were all great and I would thoroughly recommend this little gem to anyone 10/10 on all fronts

Highly Recommended- But Disappointing. Decided to visit this place after rave reviews from others, and for my Wife's birthday. Far too noisy for me seated in the naughty corner, as it was occupied by two families with youngsters. And I was right under the loud speaker, and another table were well oiled. I had to put tissue paper in my ears to drown out the noise. The Staff were friendly and attentive, we didn't have to wait too long for the food. It was absolutely under whelming though, there are far better eating houses in South Shields. The portions were adequate and hot, but unfortunately not as good as I was expecting. The bill was a tad salty too at 56quid, but I'm told that's the norm. We had two starters, two main courses, chips, rice, two poppadoms, 1 Blackcurrant and soda and two pints of Cobra. I suppose the 20% VAT racks it up, all in all not the dining experience that I was expecting !!!

Had a Vindaloo which was very well made. Right balance of heat and flavour. What really elevated the experience was the staff. The person who invented the "special garlic chilli naan" deserves special recognition, that was really good and different from other naan. Come here if you fancy a proper curry, and make sure you try the garlic chilli naan!

Ordered take away for me to pick up , 1 chicken madras , 1 chicken tikka masala , 2 pilau rice , I chips when I got there charged £ 29.45 it was very nice but a bit pricey I thought , so done a price comparison with radhunis who has a higher rating , same meal , delivered to my door £23.40 , I know where I will be getting my curry next time

A warm welcome and a great atmosphere. Booked for the wife's birthday and was shown to table straight away. An excellent choice of drinks and the menu is well laid out with advice for Gluten free and vegetarian choices. There was no one rushing you to finish your meal and you can relax and enjoy it. It is wheelchair accessible as well. A take away service is available but do not deliver.

The best place in South Shields for food and the atmosphere is brilliant. All the lads are great and the food is of a very high standard. We go frequently and the wife gave birth recently. Josh one of the guys was asking how she was when I went in for a carry out and he presented me with a bottle of wine the celebrate for her as a gift from resteraunt. La sun is mine and my boyfriends regular curry house. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is first class- nothing is a bother for the friendly staff. In my opinion the best curry house in South Shields! 100% recommended

This restaurant never fails to miss the spot. We went on New years Eve and had another fantastic meal, this time from the set menu. The staff make you feel like a member of their family and can not do enough for you to make it a special occasion every time. I know there's a lot of choice in South Shields for an Indian meal, and most of them are very good, but Lasun is on another level.

Simply the best welcome, ambiance and Indian food in South Shields. Only our first time here but definitely not our last. Excellent all around and would highly recommend if you like a first rate curry. Sunday to Friday is a specials menu and cheap as chips (or rice in this case). No delivery service but they do takeaway

Absolutely gorgeous meal. The guys who work there are really great and have a lovely rapport with all of the customers too, clearly a lot of returning diners and they are really passionate about the food too. The paneer and mushroom are a MUST, my new favourite starter. Can't wait to return, highly recommend.

Food is good, but the time you need to wait for pre organised collections is getting worse, 18 minutes wait tonight and the last 2 collections have also been over 15 minutes, the problem is when you have organised to collect other take always for family members at the same time and you are them late collecting them and they are cold.

Tried a take away for the first time . Wow what a surprise the waiting floor staff although very busy made the effort to offer a warm welcome. My order was being processed and I had to wait a short period. I was offered a seat and a drink while waiting . My food was fresh, hot and delicious Will certainly be returning with family this time in the restaurant. Well done and thank you

Your greeted by some of the friendliest staff in any restaurant. Josh in particular makes you feel special and makes every visitor feel important. We travel 20 miles to visit as the staff and the food make it worth it. We have made many visits and the food is simply exceptional and ALWAYs to the same very high standard. We simply can't fault the food. Not on the main road full of curry shops so make a point of seeking out lasun as it will be worth it for the authentic fresh taste.

Visited last Saturday, not for the first time, and as always, from the second you walk through the door, you are made to feel like a family friend. The food is 1st Class and I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed.

We have been going here since the day this opened. The food is always beautiful and you can't get most of the dishes on their menu from anywhere else - locally. Chefs are A* as is Josh! place wouldn't be the same without him or his sauces!Yes, you may find there are delays in food service sometimes but this is simply because most items on the menu are made to order. For me personally, food is always worth the wait!Kathi Kebab / Sheek Pura Murgh / Achari Murgh / Zal Zala Murgh are a must! Looking forward to sitting in again.

We were staying in South Shields & really fancied a good curry, google found this place & the reviews were good & we thought we’d give it a go & boy were we impressed, they fit us in on a busy Saturday night, they sorted my son out with a meal that wasn’t on the menu, they were so nice & kind & at all times we felt so safe, even during the pandemic!!!!Thank you EVERYONE

Visited midweek to support the restaurant during the phase of closure through Covid. Four starters, four mains, two drinks each. Superb value and everyone delighted with their meals. My lamb chops starter was fantastic and the king prawn rezalla main packed with layers of spice and flavour instead of just a load of heat and peppers that some restaurants serve. Still the undisputed king of dine in curry houses in South Shields, simply untouchable.

I love the atmosphere and the food is amazing.

Great food pleasent staff. After been seated we ordered drinks , and they came within mins . Then got the menu then the long wait began . This was midweek and not at all busy so if this fantastic place with very good staff wants people to use it again and again get the kitchen staff up to speed. Not sure how long we all waited but it was far far too long . My score 9 from 10 for food and front of house staff and 3 from 10 for the very long wait....
