Northern Whig in Belfast

Whilst we all ate our meals it was very much standard pub grub. The roast beef was sooo over cooked it was grey and tough even for mass produced food. Roast potatoes hard and would bet they were from freezer straight into fryer. Lovely atmosphere and the Guinness apparently excellent.

Great food, and the doormen/bouncers are very friendly and accommodating, but the bar staff are rude every single time we visit and this ruins the experience. Crazy to think this place would hire such a crew of insolent brats.

My husband and I walked into this restaurant on the recommendation of a guest who was outside the front door having a smoke. The service was excellent - prompt, polite and very helpful explaining various options on the menu. The menu included a variety of choices from traditional restaurant fare - steak, fish and chips, Ceasars salad - to cosmopolitan selections - curry, sausages, tagliatelle, reasonably priced, beautifully presented. The wait staff was super polite and very pleasant. Thanks Mirek! You made our stay in Belfast a memorable dining experience!

We were staying just across the road and decided to go in for a meal and a few drinks. Most impressed by the place, looked cosy and the staff were very nice and accommodating even though we did not have a reservation. The food was very good and so were the cocktails. The girl who served us was also very friendly and the service was very good. We hope to visit this place again if and when we do visit the city again.

We were walking around town and thought the place looked nice so we stopped in for a early supper. We didn't have a reservation but thankfully it was early enough so we didn't need one. We liked the atmosphere, very cozy and down to earth. We had fast and friendly service. The steak sandwich with Jameson sauce was amazing. The fish and chips was good and so was the burger. By the time we left the bar area was almost full and there were only a few open tables, so I would recommend reservations if they take them.

Service was excellent especially from Mirek who looked after our every need the whole night which made our visit all the more enjoyable. On our last visit Ann Marie also looked after us .Cant wait to go back. Thanks

Had the most amazing meals here - 4 of us, we all ordered something different & they were all absolutely delicious. I had one of the best fish and chips ever. Ambience is amazing as is the building itself…….highly recommend this place.

Nice vibe, good service and really nice food. The steak ciabatta was melt in the mouth. Not chewy like some steak sandwiches can be. My hubbies ham in Guinness was awesome.

Unreal! We stumbled upon this gem on our trip to Belfast. The food was absolutely gorgeous, I cannot explain it another way. I had the chicken stack, my friend had the chicken burger. The seasoning was on point. I cannot recommend it enough. Generous portions, gorgeous food.

The food here is fine. It’s a bit run of the mill but cooked fine and served warm. The service was friendly and finding somewhere in Belfast on a very wet Tuesday night was a challenge.

Not sure if they do food, but a great place for a relaxing drink or party's. Lovely warm and friendly staff.

Had two fantastic meals across two evenings. The first night we were just looking for food near our hotel. Cora was our waitress, and made sure we had an excellent time, attentive without being a helicopter, and all the other staff were super friendly too. Based on that experience, we went back the next night. This time we were served by Craig, who was equally friendly and very helpful too! Both nights, the food was excellent. The first night I had the roast chicken and my partner had the roast beef. Second night, we both had the chicken katsu. In addition to being delicious, the portion sizes were generous, and they arrived piping hot and very quick. The restaurant itself was clean, with a really pleasant atmosphere and music that added to the experience. I was visiting from England, but I’ll be sure to return when I’m next in Belfast, and I heartily recommend this place to anyone.

Everyone enjoyed their meals here. Pleasantly surprised that all of the food was so good. Super friendly staff and beautiful interior.

Excellent service from Patrice the barmaid. Patrice went above and beyond to be helpful even helping out with a wardrobe disaster! Patrice was friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. Excellent customer service and due to the service received by Patrice we will def be back .. five stars!

Really disappointed had book a table for 3 o'clock didn't get it till 3 20 they had cheak to ask u to move causes the table was book we were still eating the puddings what a disgrace

Really relaxed and enjoyable visit today. We hadn’t booked a table and with it being Easter Sunday, we weren’t sure if we could be accommodated. Our server was Mirek and he was so welcoming and friendly from the moment we arrived. He found a table for us, and his customer service throughout was first class. He was funny, knowledgeable and great with all of the customers. The food was excellent and very quick to arrive. Overall, we would highly recommend The Northern Whig.

Lovely food and good service. We had a lovely girl who was very attentive and nothing was a bitger to her. We were there on 9.3.24 about 5.30..Would definitely go back. Well done to the staff who were very busy but dealt with it all amazingly.

We showed up early for our reserved time and the staff were able to squeeze us in early. Food was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Our server was attentive and took very good care of our table! All meals were GF and tasty!

The atmosphere was great. Ordered the steak and chips that came out really dry but it was a Friday night so I think the kitchen just gets overwhelmed. I was here at Christmas time and had a roast dinner which was lovely.

Had a good meal here. Didn't have any trouble getting a table, food was nice (Goat Cheese Starter and Korean Fried Chicken) and our server was best kind. Will be back again for sure.

We love this place we have been with both friends and family. Always stop here when we are in Belfast, its a must. They a have a DJ who plays the best music, gets everyone dancing!. Faabbbbbb!

Food was absolutely phenomenal. Best pub grub I've had in a while! The staff were so so lovely and professional! The interior decor was extremely nice too.

Large venue located in the Cathedral District of Belfast. Here too I found friendly and professional staff, a characteristic that I found almost everywhere in the city (and beyond). The gastronomic experience was again of an excellent standard. The salmon fillet was one of the tastiest I have ever eaten in my life, and the dessert, the sticky toffee pudding (a classic of traditional British cuisine), was also delicious. All accompanied by the inevitable Guinness. Reservations are recommended, especially for dinner. The prices are in line with those of the city and for how I ate they are more than adequate.

I have been here a few times and the food has always been great. I have always had the same server and he was so informative and knowledgeable about the food on the menu and the range of beers on offer. I have only been for lunch so it was quite quiet. I would definately recommend giving it a try.

Dirty table, asked bartender (who had been standing with her arms folded) if it could be cleared. She hsnded me two cloths and said she was too busy.

Nice enough place, clean and airy. The drinks are expensive but it's handy to get to for meeting friends. We didn't have food, but wht was getting served to others looked very well presented. Need to fill up in hand towels, etc, for the ladies!

We all work in Belfast and we have had two functions here in last few months catering for over 15 persons. Food has been brilliant staff are exceptional to be fair. A real treasure in the City centre. Thank you and keep up the good work folks

Food was disgraceful chicken was dry as a boot more lumps in the pepper sauce than O.A.Ps ballbag shocking service waited over an hour and half when servers were told about complaint tried blaming kitchen to which the food turns out was never rang in. Not even a complementary drink or % of the full price for their mistake. Stay clear

Went here for 3 course meal after graduation. The food tasted amazing and the cocktails were great! The atmosphere was lively, yet comfortable and our waiter Mirek was extremely accommodating, pleasant and bubbly throughout, which made for a great night. We will definitely be back!

Amazing atmosphere, Mark was very accommodating for a large party and a lot of kids included. The only thing the kids didn't like was the hotdogs were sausage baps when they arrived. Great night celebrating graduation.

Drop my husband there at 8 tonight meet friends from work door men would not let him in said it was to crowded then proceeded to let groups of girls in right in front of him asked how they where able to get in they where very rude told him again it was to crowded Hospitality in Belfast hope it falls down around them people try to meet up for Christmas drink and that's the way your treated and by the way husband well dressed and sober disgraceful

A lovely Christmas atmosphere in The Northern Whig. Service was very prompt and staff were very nice. Mushroom pate starter was lovely although it needed either more bread or less pate. Our main courses of burger / seabass were very nice too.

Great place. Great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and kind. I think we got the last table for two available. In fact the guy at the till deserves praise for getting us the table and saving our lunch time. The lunch was lovely. I had the stuffed loin of pork and my friend had the Korean chicken with chips. Both were superb. Would have no hesitation in returning.

It’s a horrible area - very very rundown with some dodgy types calling out abuse across the street. Food was ok (burgers) and friendly. Wine overpriced - fell for the ubiquitous Picpoul de Penet trap at over 20.00 when I can get it in Tesco for 7.00 odd Better off going to Wetherspoons tbh - decent food without pretensions. It feels stuffy and out of place like so much in this city.

Good wee spot for lunch. Called in here when we couldn't get into Cloth Ear. There were 2 guys, one met and seated us the other took our order. Couldn't fault them, very good service for these two but the two girls behind the bar...

Me and my husband came here wad Sunday lunch which wad really delicious. Our waiter Mirek was very friendly and approachable. Couldn't do enough for us and chatty too. Very much appreciated and lovely service to have.
