Pizzorante in Monmouthshire

Ate here for the first time between lockdowns and it was the best Italian food we've tasted outside of Italy! Service was great, the staff were all welcoming and friendly and the food was just perfection! Thank you, we can't wait to return!

We managed to fit in a lunch at Pizzorante in between lockdowns and it turned out to be a real treat in more ways than one. The food turned out to be some of the best Italian food I have tasted in the UK! Not a huge menu but very authentic recipes and flavours and served by very pleasant owners who quite rightly take pride in their restaurant and food. I can't wait for the restaurant to open again, I only hope they will have survived the crisis!

Second post-lock down meal had to be here. Once again just as good as pre-March 2020 and ate off the specials board.

We'd eaten at the sister restaurant Tapas Twist on out first night and booked this for our last night in Abergavenny. Nice to see the same waiting staff from Tapas Twist serving us again! Porchetta starter very good - nearly as good as some of the porchetta restaurants in Rome. Lasagne was large and straight out of the oven, and the pizza was thin and crisp and well topped. Small 50cl carafe of house red was very drinkable and good value.

Amazing, food, service and ambience. Highly recommend! The Parmigiana was a particular favourite and the seafood risotto was out of this world.

Really liked the friendly smiley vibe and the food was great too. Fiorentina pizza/ensalada mista/tiramisu all hit the spot, but the surprising winner was the salad. NOT your average boring side salad: skinned roasted peppers (I appreciated the effort), the ripest reddest (and yellowest) tomatoes, and a kick-ass dressing which added up to an explosion of flavours. Yum!

Stunning. Beautiful food in a charming setting...authentic dishes, friendly service, great value. A perfect end to our Welsh holiday. Thanks to all the staff at Pizzorante!

We struck lucky, it as a very hot evening and we bagged the last outside table. Great starters of the bruschetta and the beans and fantastic pizzas. The latter even did us for lunch the next day!

On holiday in the area recently and booked at this very popular restaurant. Nice ambience. Nice room. Open kitchen. Friendly welcome and excellent service. Had a frittura and a porchetta dish to start, and then a couple of large pizzas, with thin and crispy bases. Bottled Peroni and Moretti to drink. Recommended.

Hats off to Eva and the team at Pizzorante for catering for our party of 16 last Friday. Communication during and after booking was excellent and the food was outstanding. You made our evening; thank you very much!

This is a great pizza place, full of Italians patrons, which for me is always the best sign for a good Italian restaurant.

After months of lockdown, my favorite pizzeria has reopened for takeaway only. Same great food same friendly service. Looking forward to full restaurant service returning.

There were nine of us having a pre-theatre meal. We were asked to pre-order, not a problem as menu online. Clean restaurant, really friendly staff, great food, good wine. Would definitely recommend eating here.

A popular yet atmospheric italian restaurant where service is attentive but not intrusive. Good acoustics, you can actually hear your companions talk. A comprehensive menu with a few specials, basic rather than fancy but very good quality.

This is a great little Italian restaurant. The service is very good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good and tasty. The arrabiata has a real bite to it and the bruschetta is excellent. They do great pizza and have now added vegan versions of these to the menu. The olives are good and not the cheaper ones some restaurants use. Highly recommended

I have been visiting Pizzaronte since they first opened their doors many years ago, one of the first nights if I remember. I should have written a review years ago, but here goes.Since they opened way back when, I have been to several countries and tried many, many pizzas. But here at Pizzaronte they are hands down, the most consistent, perfectly crisp, flavoursome, varied, sizable pizzas that I have ever tasted! Even after years and years of visits up to 15 times a year.. They just never, EVER dissapoint. The staff and Chefs are all so welcoming, it's like being part of the family. They havent changed how they run thier business, they havent tried to "squuueeze" more people in than necessary. They just serve amazing food, every night, without fail. And I have NEVER seen it quiet in there, not even on a Wednesday night. If you are new to the area, or just visiting, or even a local who's never been convinced.. Please try them! You will be welcomed with a warm smile and be able to enjoy the buzz of the wonderful atmosphere that is always present every evening. You wont regret it!!! :)

Went for a family lunch, it was absolutely fantastic the food was best Italian we have ever had and the staff friendly and helpful.

A hidden gem, tucked away behind Market Street, Abergavenny, we dined here both evenings on our weekend stay. Open kitchen, great ambience and brilliant staff. The food was good and service efficient, without being pushy. Very popular with local people - families, couples and groups of friends and would recommend booking for a Friday or Saturday. Good range on menu, genuinely Italian

Came here for lunch. Great as always, started with two specials - peppery chicken livers on bruschetta and salt cod in a tomato, pine nuts and olives followed by one special - Italian fish stew and the seafood risotto from the normal menu. Couldn't fault a thing. Somewhat quieter than our last visit which coincided with the end of Autumn half term holiday and a stream of Dads bringing their children in for pizza.

Always the best for pizza, atmosphere and a great family evening out. Could not be more welcoming. Other food also worth checking out. We go here often and never had a bad meal.

Proper Italian food in a proper Italian restaurant! Fantastic family atmosphere. Food is always beautiful and the staff are wonderful. Nothing fancy just good old fashioned Italian cuisine. Love it every time.

This is such a lovely,lively restaurant with wonderfully friendly staff. We try to go regularly, but it had been a while since last time, not for not wanting to but lack of time. Yet another great meal tonight, couldn’t fit in desert which was a shame as we Iove the tiramisu <3! Their pizzas are the best ever, nice thin base, great toppings, tonight I had the homemade pasta with sausage and mushrooms, truffle oil - so good!

Excellent dinner option in Abbergavenny! Exceptionally good food (we had a pizza each, the delicious chickpea starter, and choc fondant with ginger ice cream) Very attentive and friendly staff.

Today was the second time I’ve eaten here. I had a delicious starter which I can’t remember it’s name now. For mains I had a Calzone which was tasty but I wish I tried something else more authentic. The menu and specials were full of traditional Italian dishes, alternative to pizza. My calzone was a little too salty and could have done with a little tomato sauce to moisten it up.

Pizzaronte never disappoints. Four of us had different dishes, all were delicious. I had the risotto with mushrooms, rocket and truffle oil, FAB Food is excellent, staff are friendly and helpful.

Varied menu with Daily specials available . Excellent food , freshly cooked with friendly helpful staff.Evident that dishes are lovingly prepared using traditionally sourced recipes. Cosy atmosphere where you are able to see your food being prepared.

Been here a number of times over the last few months. Lovely environment and always busy which is a good sign. The staff are really lovely , friendly and very efficient and best of all the service is quick . The food is brilliant , lots of choice and very fresh. I had a pasta dish with prawn and it was very tasty one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time . Clearly one of the most popular places in Abergavenny and just love it here. . Excellent.

The best Italian restaurant we have ever visited. Food is outstanding and the atmosphere is wonderful. If you like real Italian cuisine this is the place to eat. The staff are absolutely fantastico and work so well together as a team.We eat there every week, it’s a treat we really look forward to. A real gem! Highly recommend this super restaurant.

I love the pizzas from here, hubby always has prawn spaghetti, he’s happy so I’m happy, wasn’t too keen on the fish starter wouldn’t have that again. Will go back cause it’s a nice place

My partner and I had dinner on a busy evening .We had three courses , loved every one of our chosen dishes , and were impressed by the friendliness , efficiency and speed with which the staff dealt with all the customers .Our meal with drinks cost just under £60 for the two of us - great value . The place had a vibrant and happy ambience and we were only sorry that this restaurant is over 200 miles from our home !

Never been before and was surprised how big this was but also just how busy they got so get there early if you can . Friendly atmosphere and team , food was a bit of a wait though buy once it was here , it was lovely .

We took friends for diner having had a great experience the first time, and were thrilled that they loved it as much as we did. The food was outstanding, we all opted for something from the specials board and we thoroughly enjoyed all meals. Service was good, just a great place to eat.

We were staying in Gilwern for a week with two of our grandsons who are vegetarian. We booked here on the Tuesday and had a wonderful meal, warm welcome and excellent service. We ate there a second evening and it was again perfect. They even made a baby chino for the two boys, thank you. We recommend this restaurant, a perfect place to enjoy excellent Italian food.

We've been for lunch and dinner at least half a dozen times and have always had a superb meal, whether it's a one course lunch or a two or three course dinner. Quality of cooking is excellent, and service friendly. Some of the pricing, especially on the specials board, is really high and I was surprised to have a £2 surcharge added to a dish to add in what was literally a splash of cream. But those price anomalies aside, we think it's a great place.

Found this little gem.on trip advisor and gotta say how pleased we were with everything. Service is great and the food was absolutely lovely.

We had wandered around Abergavenny and stumbled upon this gem. They were almost fully booked (on a Tuesday - a good sign) but squeezed a couple in. We were not disappointed. Starters were Faggotini - a bresola and cheese dish and Ascolana - a stuffed olives dish, both excellent. Then two fresh crisp pizzas. Staff very attentive, kitchen clean and busy.

My partner and I tried this restaurant out for lunch today. The service was very good and so was our pasta dishes. There seemed to be a lot of pizza items on the menu to choose from. I think it’s a good lunchtime restaurant.

Pizzorante is a family oriented restaurant, it does great Pizzas but is not the kind of place to go if you want a quiet romantic table for two. The food is good, I especially like the fish stew which is very good and reasonably priced.

Small entrance leads into a well sized restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful; they could not do enough, in fact. The food was excellent, good ingredients and perfectly cooked. This was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last.

Stopped into Abergavenny for the first time whilst on the way to holiday in Wales. Loved the town, hit it on Thursday evening when the late night food market was happening. This restaurant was the highlight, authentic recipes, great staff, lovely vibe, great for kids, and a really amazing time!

I celebrated my birthday with friends on a Friday night recently. Mains were preordered as it is a busy time so food was prompt. The service was great & staff friendly. Everyone enjoyed & I even had a special birthday design plate for my ice cream thanks to artistic staff member Sophie! Gluten free diet was catered for with a good choice.

I’m only just getting round to reviewing Pizzorante even though I have visited here many times. This is an absolute cracker of a restaurant in the town centre …slightly hidden away.

Shared a Starter of Prawns A Squid A Calamari-VERY TASTY! Followed by a Pizza-TONS for 2!! having added extras-onion and spinach!! Knowing that we were sharing it came with TWO eggs-INCREDIBLY THOUGHTFUL! GREAT Service!!

We eat here fairly regularly and always have a good meal. Last night I had the steak from the special menu, which was a sirloin steak cooked in a garlic / mushroom sauce served with chunky chips. Really good and great value at £18.50

One of those places I did not know about, invited by friends who had been previously. Packed out so a good sign from the moment we arrived, friendly service and good specials board to whet our appetite. The al la carte menu looked good but we all went for the specials and were not disappointed. Wine not too pricey, overall a great night and will definitely go again

It's always a joy to find an authentic family-run Italian restaurant. This one definitely falls into that category. The menu isn't huge, but it's well balanced, and everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. I hugely enjoyed the aubergine parmegiana, and my husband raved about the homemade pasta with sausage. Would definitely return.

Recently visited this little restaurant in the lovely market town of Abergavenny. My partner ordered chicken liver pasta - is the best way I can describe it, having forgotten the Correct Italian name. She assures me that this dish was excellent. For myself, I played it safe and ordered the Lasagne and Fries. The service was fairly quick and the staff appeared to enjoy their jobs. This generated a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

If you love Authentic Italian food then this is the place for you. This is our 3rd visit and it is a real treat. The food is exquisite.

Visited this restaurant with a group of friends. What a wonderful place! We were very well looked after by the staff. Food was very flavoursome. I had the spaghetti special with prawns which was very tasty. My husband had the salmon pizza, which was very nice too. Lovely decor and ambience. Would definitely return.

About 20 of us went for evening meal prior to wedding next day. We had pre ordered because of group arrival. Food was really good. Service efficient and prices reasonable. Side salads were generous. Would definately go again.

A group of us from work went for a meal here and had a great time. Although we went early on a Friday evening the place was busy so it's best to book a table. There are pizzas and an a la carte menu. Pizzas cost from £9 to £10. A large glass of white wine is £4.90. Food and service were excellent and the atmosphere was good.

I know I’m in a minority but this did not live up to the expectations that had been promised ! The staff were a little off putting and the pizza was way too expensive for what it was ! As a non drinker the non alcoholic choices were limited ! It’s over hyped and over priced ! Shan’t be coming back !

We arrived at their lunchtime opening time and shown to our table by a very charming young lady. Menus arrived and drinks ordered. Given ample time to make our choices (no eye contact needed, they just knew we were ready to order). By this time the place had started to get busy.

We hadn't booked but were squeezed in provided we could be clear by 7.30pm. No problem, as our orders were quickly taken and both food & drinks quickly served.

I have been a regular customer at Pizzorante since it opened! Whether I have had a takeaway or eaten in the restaurant everything has been simply fantastic. The staff are always welcoming and very attentive, whilst the food, all handmade on site is to die for! My personal favourite would be the Calabrese with nduja sausage, though the pasta dishes equally delicious! A family run establishment and a huge asset to the area!

We went here on Friday evening and although it was very busy I must say that the food and the service wee both first class, it was my first visit but certainly won't be my last. I can't believe that there is somewhere this good in Abergavenny, thanks a lot, I'll be back and telling all my friends

Booked a table for 9 people. Told had to prebook mains, which seems ridiculous as it's not exactly a wide ranging menu. Anyway got there, no body came and asked if we wanted starters. So called someone over and was told we should of also pre booked starters. Explained wasn't told this and that we would like to order starters. Was then informed that we can't have starters as our mains were ready to be served. They hadn't even asked if we wanted sides, apparently we should have ordered that in advance too !! But yet as we were waiting 3 tables of 4 came in and they didn't have to pre-order. What a shambles. We refused to stay and left to go else where. So some poor person probably had our meals reheated as when we were leaving they brought our mains over as the waitress hadn't even told the chef to stop cooking.

We have supported this business since opening but have become extremely concerned with the changing attitude of the female owner (short dark hair Veronica?) who has become so rude it is unpleasant to eat here. Beware if you haven’t pre-booked as, even if they are not full, she will not accommodate you! We ordered a margarita pizza which came with mushrooms? We explained that our children couldn’t eat mushrooms and were told by her, in a very loud voice, that all children like mushrooms! Obviously she hasn’t heard of food allergies which can be extremely dangerous particularly to children. We have witnessed her unsavoury attitude to other diners where some have left the restaurant because of her before eating their meals. Hopefully other customers will vote with their feet and spend their hard earned cash elsewhere.

We booked a table here as a family of 9 for a birthday celebration... We were told upon booking that our mains had to be pre ordered, which we thought was a bit odd as we weren't exactly a large group, 3 of which are children. But anyway we went along with it. We arrived no one approached to ask us if we would like any drinks for at least 15 minutes. May I point out that the restaurant was not at all full, the staff were more interested in cleaning tables. When we finally received our drinks order we asked if we could have a menu so we could chose our starters. We were met by the most rude reaction. The waitress said 'this is news to me, you only ordered mains'. When we explained that we were told to only order main courses, the waitress was the most patronising and rude person I have ever come across and no attempt what so ever was made to try and rectify the situation. We said we here here for a celebration and we wanted to have a 3 course meal, not a main just a main course and to be in and out like a drive through McDonalds! The waitress made it clear that there was absolutely no way we were now able to order starters or sides as our food had been cooked. Not. Once did anyone come over and ask if we were ready to for our food! We told the waitress we would like to cancel the food as we would go elsewhere where there was a warmer reception. Her reaction was to say 'where else are you going to eat now'. She failed to cancel our food with the kitchen as they proceeded to bring it out. We asked to just pay for our drinks and leave. It took them 20 minutes and us to keep asking for the bill.

Booked a table for 9. Told on the phone that we needed to pre order mains which we did. When we got there no one came over for over ten minutes to take the order for drinks. We then had to ask for menu to order starters, told we should have pre ordered them. Attitude of waitress was very rude, basically claiming that I had been told that starters had to be pre ordered (which was not the case). She then informed us it was too late to order starters as our food as nearly ready, even though it was coming with now side dishes and we weren't allowed to order any! Informed her that we would not be wanting the food and could we just pay for the drinks as we would find another place to eat. Waitress sarcastically said "where you going to eat, now then!". Main courses then were brought to us as the waitress had not informed the kitchen that we had cancelled the order. We had to send these back and ask for the bill again. Eventually came out and had a delicious meal in nearby Chinese restaurant, Kongs, where staff were superb. Pizzarante lost a lot of money off us and won't get any future booking from us. Awful service

This is a wonderful place with very good food, great Pizzas but many other traditional food. Everyone is very friendly and the atmosphere is good too.
