What a lovely, welcoming pub!We stopped at Kington for the night on our way to Aberystwyth. My husband and I came for what started out as a couple of drinks ended up staying all night. Real fire burning, locals, staff and other guests where all very welcoming. We learnt the local game quoits.(I won 🙊) And stroked all the lovely pooches in there,Nettle the pub dog was absolutely gorgeous. We played a few games of pool for free.(I lost 🙈) And Gerwyn wrote down some directions for us to go through the Elan Valley (which was breathtaking) also very accurate and found it no problem. Shame we weren’t staying for longer as I would have loved to sample the food. But if ever I am that way again I wouldn’t hesitate to call in. Thankyou everyone for making us feel welcome.

Looks a dump but we thought give it a go, so called on Sunday Evening to book a table and to ask about our well-behaved dogs coming with us to be told no problem! anyhow we changed ready to go out got there and was told we're closed it was 7pm! obviously they felt the need to shut with a pub full of people as they knew their grubby pub and 2nd rate over cooked food wouldn't be to our refined taste! Hot fuzz movie comes to mind, weirdos in the village pub!..

If I could give it minus then I would!!! What a wierd place this is!! We were staying near by with friends and our 2 well behaved dogs. We rang ahead to ask if they are serving food and can we bring our dogs. The very nice young lady said yes no problem. So we get dressed and head down there. As we are walking across the road to the door, a man is stood behind the glass panel door waving "No" and he'd put put the closed sign up. We could see lots of people inside at the bar so we were really confused! We walked away and never managed to get dinner. At another local place, we explained what had happened and was told that the man that turned us away is really weird and is known for just deciding who comes in! If he doesn't like the look of you! We are professional business people who probably have more class than he's ever known and he clearly has the Intelligence level of a Stone! We said it reminded us of the pub in the film hot fuzz! Anyway Mr weirdo you can keep your pub! It looked scruffy and dingy anyway!!!

We've started using this pub more often lately as they are now serving beers that we really like. While we were in a couple of weeks ago, we saw some other customers having the home made pizzas and they looked fantastic! We decided there and then that we must return and try them for ourselves. Well, they are so good, we've now been back a couple of times already to order them! They have other things on the menu too, but I love pizza and these are just wonderful! Beautiful thin home made base, plentiful toppings, delicious! I'm really glad to be using this pub more regularly now. We've always liked the pub and the people, it was just the beer choice didn't suit us personally, but now it does! It's a really nice, locals pub and we're looking forward to visiting again 😊

I had been communicating with the hotel all week about staying by messenger as their phone wasn't working properly. I had asked if they normally got booked up at weekends at that time of year. I was told no. On the Saturday morning I confirmed I needed a room that night, and should be arriving about 8/9pm. Fortunately I phoned at 8.30pm to check that they did have a room available, and someone answered. They told me that they had no rooms. I was told they didn't have time to check their messages. If your phones are being unreliable you should be checking your messages, especially as I had been told to book that way. So at 8.30 pm on a Saturday night I had nowhere to stay and was possibly looking at spending a very cold night in my car. Fortunately I did manage to find somewhere else.

This was my second visit to the pub for a meal. The menu choice is very limited but I’d guess most would find something they like. I chose a homemade burger and asked for it to be well done. The food arrived, there was about 6 chips on our plate and I’m not exaggerating. The burger was ok to begin with but after a couple of bites, the meat turned pink. 🤢 I couldn’t continue with it. I regret not saying anything to the staff and also asking where the rest of the chips are. We visit relatives in Kington very regularly but we definitely won’t be having a meal at this establishment again.

Absolutely abysmal! I've lived here for 10 years and always heard the food was good. So, we decided to go here for Sunday lunch. On arrival we were greeted by the owner of the pub who wasn't friendly at all, quite rude in fact. Told us we should have the track and trace app so they don't have to write a name and number down. We were the only customers at this point. The 'carvery' was cold, soggy cabbage and overcooked carrots. The plates weren't even warmed up, this is when pubs were opened back up just after covid restrictions were lifted to outside eating only. By the time we sat down outside in the pub garden (and I use that term very loosely) the food was cold. Our pint was actually warmer than the food. We were one of two tables eating, not exactly busy. I asked for the dessert menu, I was told by the female chef that she hadn't had time to make any desserts. I understand that at peak times, this would be particularly difficult to carry through, but you can't offer a pub lunch without a dessert menu. Perhaps I've just been too spoilt by the other amazing pubs round this area. Would not recommend, plenty of nicer pubs around.

The lasagne was thick and stodgy with no juice at all, managed to eat less than a third. The topping had a texture of mashed potato with a lump of cheese laid on top. The mini quiche were rubbery with a large gap between the pasrty & topping (they had to be reminded that chips were ordered to go with it) The steak which was ordered medium was so well done & tough & the rice to go with the meatballs was out of a microwave packet. We will not be going back for food but it is a dog friendly place & the young chap who runs the bar is great so we would return for drinks only.
