Shadwell Tandoori in Leeds

I got a takeaway as I was on my way back from a walk. Next time I shall sit in. The service was great. The food just as good. Chicken and lamb cooked really well. The naan breads were beautiful. Thanks!

Firstly, non of the staff wore a face mask. Secondly, they allowed takeaway customers to come inand mill around without face masks. A disgrace!! The Health Dept should pay them a visit!Take away was cold and very poor. Onion Bhaji like cardboard. Lamb tikka dry, tasteless and cold.Main course chicken balti absolutely tasteless. Chappaty doughy and cold. The cucumber raitha more like porridge with lumps of cucumber.A supermarket curry is a much better bet!

I have been going to Shadwell Tanoori since it opened and can honestly say I have never had a bad meal. We use them for takeaway which is always beautiful food and no different from the meals I have had when I eat in the restaurant.

I've never been inclined to write a negative review based purely on a shoddy attitude as oppossed to the venue's food.It's NYE, it's busy, I get it which is why I phoned my order through yesterday. 24hrs notice.I note there are a few disgruntled people there already when I arrive with reception staff frantically flicking through the order dockets.7pm comes so I wait politely for 10 more mins after my 7pm slot then I enquire where my order is. Another 10 mins later it finally arrives 20 mins late.Muttered apologies for my wait before disappearing back into the kitchen. I said to the (evidentally incompetent) reception desk staff that "hopefully the attitude will be better next year?"The muttered response under the breath was"A55hole" I beg your pardon? To which he sheepishly avoids eye contact as he didn't think I'd heard him.Charming after spending £12.95 on what turned out to be a disappointing mediocre King prawn shashlick.Well good luck to you in 2021! I hope your attitude is reflected in your takings for next year. May you and your takeaway fall into oblivion.

We have eaten in and had takeaways from Shadwell Tandoori for 14 years now and never once has there been a dip in the high quality of their food or consistently professional and welcoming service. We consider ourselves very fortunate to live so close to such a reliably high quality restaurant.

We've been going to Shadwell Tandoori for takeout or sit down meals on occasions since it first opened many years ago. We have never had a poor meal.Tonight's takeout was again faultless, freshly cooked and very tasty. A real treat during covid restrictions.Thank you to all the staff who work hard to deliver such a great customer service.

Dejé de investigar un buen pub local para nuestra primera cena mientras estábamos fuera durante 4 días en la caravana cerca de Leeds, y tropecé con el Shadwell Tandoori. La revisión rápida en Tripadvisor resultó en que mi hija y yo entramos y pedimos 2 adultos y 2 niños. Varios entrantes, platos principales y acompañamientos, y en lugar de ir a cada plato, es más fácil de resumir al afirmar que la calidad de la comida de todos fue excelente. Las porciones eran bastante buenas también, la calidad de la cocina y las especias muy buenas. Podríamos haber regresado fácilmente en nuestra corta estancia y sin duda lo habríamos hecho si nos hubiéramos quedado durante una semana completa. Excelente!

He estado varias veces pero no soy un habitual. Sin embargo, es conveniente como restaurante local. Algunos amigos lo aman, otros lo odian y creo que, en general, está bastante bien. ¡Sé lo que me gusta del menú y me gusta lo que pido! Recomiendo el pollo Tikka Masala y el arroz pilau con chapatti.

Excellent Indian takeaway. Stayed at my friends Friday night and ordered a takeaway, went to collect as they don't deliver. The balti fiazzi is really good, lovely fluffy boiled rice and onion rice. Really good value

Los kebabs Sheekh desafortunadamente eran muy rosados en el medio.La ocasión anterior fue la misma. This is our local curry house ,my husband has been coming here for over 25 years and it’s still the best around ,the staff are great and the service very good .The food is excellent,there’s a great selection and they will tweek things for you if they can ,do you get just what you want . Great place .

This is our local family hang out and we had stopped going for a while as the main courses had seemed to be less appealing over time. (Not much meat, over greasy, tasted a bit the same). Our last 2 visits with a fresh menu were delicious. Tasty, varied and overall yummy this place is back on the list for us!

This small restaurant has modern decor. The food is good and the service very good. It's clean and comfortable. They will also make dishes to your request and very helpful if enjoy trying something new.

He estado viniendo a este restaurante por más de 20 años y ahora me he acercado más. Ya regresé, el personal es muy agradable y aconseja bien sobre nuevos platos. Ambiente agradable y cerca. Estupendo si hicieron entrega a los lugareños también cuando no puedes salir.

Fuimos un jueves por la noche muy ocupado con un número de personas esperando para llevar. A pesar de eso, el personal era muy acogedor y nuestro pedido de comida y bebidas se tomó muy rápidamente. Después de una espera muy razonable, TODA la comida se juntó, muy caliente y con un aspecto muy apetitoso. Sabía tan bien como se veía y todos disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida. Brilliant! We had a good selection of curries for a family meal and the food was excellent. Really tasty and with lots of flavour. Excellent service too and great value.

I 've eaten twice in the restaurant in recent months and had a take-away last night. Really tasty, generous portions and some interesting and unusual options. Loads of vegetarian dishes and also various haddock dishes for those who don't eat meat. We had vegetable chaat, mushroom pakoras, vegetable dansak and fish rogan josh, with naan, egg pulao rice and cucumber raita. A nice complimentary shredded salad and a roti. As much as two of us could eat for £23 - yummy.. .

We have been going to the Shadwell tandoori for 35 years and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal.The curries and especially the naan bread are amazing. In a contempary setting you are fussed over by attentive waiters who cannot do enough for you.Also very reasonably priced.Trust me you will go back time and time again.

Small and cosy. Friendly staff. Good food. The bhuna was excellent and vegetable rice too. Tandoori fish is delicious.

Hemos visitado Shadwell muchas veces tandoori a lo largo de los años pero si soy honesto porque era conveniente i. e. Cerca de la casa, y no porque la comida era tan buena. El curry no tienen sabores bien y la mayoría sólo tiene un sabor como si hot curry en polvo ha sido lanzada a ellos, pero ellos no son sabrosos. La decoración es horrible y todo el restaurante podría re styling, y quizás un mejor chef. Ya no viven en la zona y haber encontrado un mejor restaurante indio en Oakwood.

De haber estado un par de veces a Shadwell Tandoori, sabíamos qué esperar. Ofrecen una buena calidad de comida y un buen servicio. Collected our take away tonight. Friendly staff and quickly made. Good size main portions but rice could be a bit more generous. Otherwise the flavours were lovely and we'll definitely be returning

6 of us went to the Shadwell Tandoor for my Dads birthday. My Dad has been going there for 25+ years! Service is always great and the curries are amazing!!

This small restaurant and carry out is by far one of the best Tandoori in the area. The food is extremely good with each dish having it’s own individual flavour, as opposed to each dish tasting the same, which is a common fault with many. The restaurant is small and tidy if anything lacking in “Indian” décor however this is a minor point. Highly recommend this for fine Indian cuisine.

This is a brilliant restaurant. My husband and I have eaten here around 20 times as a couple. We've also visited in large family or friends groups. They offer take out as well as eat in and we've done both quite a few times. The staff strike the perfect balance as they leave you to enjoy your meal but if you want some advice on different dishes they are there full of knowledge if you ask. Simply great. Reasonable price. Tasty good quality food. Good selection. Friendly staff. Perfect.

I've been periodically coming here for takeaways over the last 15 years or more. This is the first time I've been disappointed. Badly. Time to go boys. It's the last time for me sadly after many great meals. It's a seismic deterioration. Bye.

Terrible terrible terrible and I do not think they will change. The starters were greasy and the main courses were insipid and badly cooked. The naan and chapatis were not even baked property! The onion badji was excellent but that was not enough.

I cannot understand how this place keeps going ! It's needs a complete makeover , new chef and some happy smiley faces....

We tried this place for the first time in years, as we live in the village.We ordered a takeaway to collect. It's terrible, infact it's not even that good!! The waiters need to get some manners. The main courses were absolutely terrible, we didn't eat them, and it was that bad I will be taking them back this evening. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

Another great meal at the Shadwell ,couldn't fault it and the staff are so friendly .I asked the waiter for a dish to be cooked without oil and they did and it was delicious .

I love Indian - it's my favourite food in the world and I was really looking forward to trying this place out as one of my friends highly recommended it. I was disgusted how bad it was and the food was terrible!! The staff were very unfriendly and the service was shocking!! This does not have a patch on places like Rajas or Akbars. I will definitely not be in a rush to go back here!!

I always say support your local businesses (but only if they support you) The staff are false in smiles and personality (probably tired of the same decor) Like one of many i moved into this area and tried this place. I have been here around 4 times (over 4 years) to give it a chance and no way would i go back again unless they revamped it and changed the menu and chef! No disrespect but your place is looking tired and your food and menu is naff compared to other indian restaurants. I have marked this a cheap eat in shadwell!!!! Come on the owner do something about this, im surprised you have lasted this long!!

I love a good Indian but have never experienced one that's better than here. We are so fortunate to live locally and have been regulars for over a decade. The staff are spot on as is the food. Everyone I have invited / recommended Shadwell Tandoori to has commented that it's the best or up there with the best they have every had and have always returned. They also offer take-out where the quality of food is certainly NOT compromised and travels very well. Can't multi-select from the list below but I have been with my family, my girlfriend and other friends. Suitable for all groups.

Went last week ,very good food and the staff are always friendly .we have been going for years and have seen a few changes always improving ,good choice on menu and they are always helpful .

Shadwell Tandoori is my fave indian restaurant in Leeds. I have used Shadwell Tandoori around ten times in the last year since moving to the local area and it has been absolutely superb every single time. The take away food is also just as good as the restaurant food. The restaurant is fairly basic inside but the service is incredible. This restaurant has a Bangladeshi influence also and I am a huge fan of the Bangla lager.

Came here when moved to the village to support the local business. Huge mistake. Food was very average until I came to eat my prawns. They were gritty and raw. Waiter took food back to the kitchen and came out to tell me that the chef said not to worry, he just hadn't cooked them long enough (clearly!). Was offered another meal but felt sick and declined. Was told at end of meal that I wouldn't be charged for my prawns (which I hadn't eaten) but not offered any other discount. The restaurant is very bleak looking and not at all welcoming. Felt cheap and in need of complete overhaul. Will go back if I ever fancy a bout of food poisoning.

We went to the Shadwell Tandori as its a few years since we last went. The restaurant is smaller than I remembered but the food was well cooked and the service was good. Also good value for money well worth a visit.

Tried this as a takeaway whilst in the area for the weekend. Went in on a Monday evening, a couple of tables were being used. Was given plenty of time to peruse the menu before ordering 2 meals. Once ordered was told it would be about 20 minutes, and we were informed we could wait in the restaurant or come back, we nipped to the pub next store. The meals were both, tasty and plentiful, even after a 10 minute car journey they were still hot. If I am back in the area again I will go back

Arrived around 8pm on a Thursday evening to find the restaurant almost empty, so no problems getting seated.The decor is modern and with so few people in it felt a bit soulless.The menu, as is often the case with this sort of establishment, is extensive.The poppadums were warm and good, they came with the usual array of accompaniments.The vegetable birianis went down well, although the chicken jalfrezi was very greasy - swimming in ghee. The rice portions are very large, so you may find that one portion will be enough for two (with normal appetites!)Service was not that great, the staff could do with learning to smile occasionally and they come over as a bit haughty. We had to ask three times before they produced the water we asked for the table.The prices are reasonable for the area.

Booked a table for two whilst away for the weekend. Firstly this place is small with about 30 covers, which we arrived on a Saturday and it was packed. A good sign.Ordered drinks, which was prompt and then poppadoms. We asked the waiter if he could give us a few minutes before ordering, which was no problem.When we order we found the food to be tasty, meat was tender, in both Lamb and Chicken. Both curries had plenty of spices and flavour with enough sauce not to drown the meats. The rice was fluffy and the peshwari was fruity and tasty.During our meal, the restaurant was busy with people collecting takeaways. This place is a little gem of a place to have a lovely meal.

Have had a few takeaways from here in the past and have not been disappointed. Service at Shadwell Tandoori is good and although the food is not exceptional, it's appetising and enjoyable. Whenever I'm back in Shadwell, I'm happy to return to this restaurant.

There is nothing wrong with this restaurant it's just very average and if you compare it with a place like the Bengal Brasserie in Wetherby this place doesn't compare. I would visit again but not for a special occasion.

This small restaurant is a little gem. The décor plain but clean, the service good and staff helpful. They will explain dishes that make trying some thing new more fun. Never had a bad meal. Tell them what you like and they will point you to things on the menu you may like to try. I miss the old wall paintings, and do think they have gone too plain. Put the service always friendly. We will be back and trying something new.

My wife and i had the miss fortune to go to shadwell tandoori last night ,the decor is on a par with a transport cafe, the staff looked as if they had been dragged threw a hedge backwards andunder the table was not clean and i could not comment on the food as i did not stay long enough to eat. Do these people not realise that you only get one chance to make a first impression.

We visited Shadwell Tandoori on a Monday evening. We had not booked but were immediately shown to a table. The menu was quite extensive so there was certainly plenty to choose from. For starter I chose the Lamb tikka and hubby had the mixed kebabs. My lamb was dry and tough and I suspect had been pre-cooked. The kebabs were OK but nothing exceptional.The biggest disappointment was the main course. I had the Bangla Garlic, hubby had Shah Jahan and a side order of brinjal dahl. Very different dishes but all were orange in colour - it could be coincidence but I couldn't help thinking the same sauce was being used for everything.The service was excellent and the staff very friendly but this was not enough to compensate for a disappointing meal. There are a number of alternatives within a couple of miles which I would select in preference to Shadwell Tandoori.

Visited this restaurant in Feb 2014. I am of Asian origin and don't normally visit restaurants from Indian subcontinent. I had to write to tell you the food was excellent. The service was exemplary and the ambience very relaxing. They have an extensive menu and if you are a vegetarian, then they can do most dishes with a veggie theme. highly recommended.

It's been many years since I went there and then it really was quite drab with very ordinary food. Thought we'd give it another go and... Wow! Had a great meal in the refurbished restaurant. Lovely food, very friendly staff, prompt service and very we'll priced. It gets my strong recommendation.

Went here with the wife and another couple and as per usual the food was outstanding. Great atmosphere and service which as they were really busy was a testament to how much they care about the customer experience. Will still be eating here in another 10 years with any luck.

We eaten here for many years which is testament to the quality of food and excellent value for money that Shadwell Tandoori provides. Service is always friendly and attentive to both regular customers and first time visitors alike and the extensive menu can be customised to provide whatever a diner may want to eat. A great local venue whether you want a quiet early evening meal or dinner with friends and definitely recommended to anyone living outside Leeds 17 who may not be aware of it.

Having grown up on a curry from here on a Friday night since I was very young and lived in Shadwell I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Even now when I live over 10 miles away i will make the trip. The food is lovely, service very quick and not too much fuss, focusing on polite service. It is just perfect for a quick meal or a special occassion as it is small and personal. Having converted my boyfriend who had never tried a curry 5 years ago who now whenever we fancy a curry this is the first, and pretty much only place we go. Would really recommend the chicken tikka makhani, even though I enjoy spice I just can't seem to ignore this sweet dish.

Shadwell Tandoori serves up consistently well cooked meals to eat in or take away. The staff and manager are always helpful, friendly and polite, taking extra time to advise on any of the huge array of food from the menu. They will tailor any dishes to include or exclude any ingredients to suit individual tastes and will even cook specially requested dishes which do not appear on the standard menu.This restaurant has many familiar faces as most clients are regular repeat visitors, well worth a try!

After a friendly welcome, and good service throughout the least I would normally say is that this is a standard curry house. Unfortunately, this doesn’t even reach that level. The mixed starter was poor; the pieces of tandoori meat were small and dry and the onion bhajis very greasy. There was nothing to the mains. I won’t be going back

We have been going here for years and the food is always excellent. We have taken friends and they have enjoyed it also. The food is very good and the staff are polite, helpful and friendly, often my husband asks for ingredients added or left out or even dishes made spicier and the chef always obliges, the staff will also suggest different dishes to try if you are undecided. Generous portions and good value for money.

Our favourite Indian restaurant for eating out or for taking away. Extravagant portions. All cooked to your own personal preferences. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Been going to this restaurant for a few years now and always enjoy our meal. The food is freshly cooked and full of flavour, and the staff are happy to explain the menu. It's a popular local restaurant, with lots of regular customers who I think, return for excellent food, friendly,polite service and good value for money.

Just had a nice meal which we thoroughly enjoyed until the bill came. Due to 'dry January' I had water and my partner had a pint of lime and soda which was £3.90!! We double checked it too. Shame as it's a nice local but there are a few more nearby so may venture a little further next time.
