Shezan in Cheltenham

Hace dos meses, tuve una gran comida para llevar. Anoche, extremadamente decepcionante. El plato de cebolla bhaji era pequeño, 4 bocados del tamaño de un bocado. Mi langostino dhansak no tenía sabor; no muchas gambas y la salsa estaba muy acuosa. Mi marido dijo que su dupiaza de pollo estaba bien, sin embargo, su salsa también era muy acuosa. Tal vez un chef diferente estaba trabajando anoche, sin embargo, no volveremos pronto.

My friend and I came into Shezan for a meal and we had such a delicious selection of dishes; two mains, two sides, rice and popadoms. We shared everything, we had the perfect amount, a friendly, kind waiter and a lovely evening.

Cordero Adrak - espectacular!Un restaurante bastante pequeño con un menú bastante pequeño pero cocinado por un experto. Sutil pero picante, delicado pero lleno de sabor.No puedo comentar nada más, pero estos tipos parecen saber realmente sus cosas.Uno de, si no el mejor "indio" que he tenido. ¡Desearía haber vivido en Cheltenham!

Have not been eating out in Cheltenham as its is now charging LONDON price's.. But eating in Shezan is always a great time from the Staff to the food. It is well priced and the meat always is what it says ie lamb and chicken our what the say,, not as in some eaters I think I am..but processed....... Go to Shezan it will be a treat...

Have not been here in years but Shezan still delivers great curry. Service was fast, food was very good, and prices were reasonable. What more to ask for? Have the Saag with naan.

My favourite curry house in Cheltenham. Always great food at a great price. Staff are always welcoming. It is the best smell as you approach the top end of Montpellier. Food is cooked to order unlike some of the others around the area. Can't recommend this place enough.

Well located Indian restaurant in the heart of Montpelier, serving superb curries and accompaniments. The manager and staff are welcoming, pleasant and efficient. We eat here every time we visit Cheltenham,. and have never been disappointed.

Visited as in the area for business and was staying near the restaurant. Few people in, good menu, enjoyed the prawn puree starter but the main was lacking flavour. £5.50 for a pint of kingfisher is a bit extreme!

Great menu selection which translated into a very tasty meal. Staff are really friendly and helpful. We will be back soon!

Small friendly restaurant with excellent food. Never been disappointed, setting is simple in the Montpelier area of Cheltenham.

This was impressive food, and the only Indian restaurant that does balti food properly. Owner was superb. Sat with us and offered suggestions. Not the fanciest looking place, but streets ahead of other Indian restaurants in the area. Staff were equally knowledgeable and polite too. All food was fresh, and not recooked as you tend to get at others. Highly recommend this one.

We ordered a take away. Three main courses. The containers were half full. Hardly any meat and mostly just sauce. Have not had food like this since the 80s. The reception area is tired. Damp patches on the ceiling giving the area a very distinct smell. The restaurant needs investment. Not good.

If you fancy a really good curry DO NOT GO HERE you will be very disappointed. The staff are rude sarcastic. The food was awful.5 of us had lamb jalfrezi I think I've are hotter tins of rice pudding. It was more like 4 or 5 bits of lamb in water with a few spices. There was nothing bulking it out no onion peppers. We all left still hungry. They were bringing food out after we all finished. It was just a bad experience and 9 of us all said so we will not be going back

Love this place, they serve such good food and a well loved place it is locally...recommend all round.....

I normally opt for their signature dishes Goan Curry and Jafrezzi but this time I experimented with the Chicken Mathi with green chilli and ground masala. (See photo) . The food was delightful, tasty and spicy. I recommend this dish and will happily return.

Habiendo visitado recientemente el restaurante para una comida con amigos y realmente disfruté la comida, decidí optar por una comida para llevar el sábado por la noche. . Pensé que estaba comiendo una comida de un restaurante diferente. Pedí cebolla pakora, setas, arroz, ajo, pan Nan, opté por el cordero balti jelfrazi y mi esposa optó por el pollo Karai. . . La pakora de cebolla era un poco pequeña, el arroz de champiñones y el pan de Nan era muy bueno, el cordero Balti era muy pequeño y la salsa no era sabrosa, era muy insípida. Y el pollo Karai estaba sin sabor. Cuando el restaurante estaba muy ocupado, siento que la atención del chef no se mostró en la preparación de la comida para llevar que recibí.

Had chicken tikka Bhuna. Chewy chicken in boiled onions. Tasteless and uninspiring. Naan bread was heavy and wet. Soulless fare with minimum effort. This used to be my favourite eatery in UK.

Whenever I am in Cheltenham I try to visit Shezan as the food is consistently good and the service is excellent.

6 of us pre booked for my sister in laws birthday.

We were booked into ivy Cheltenham but they messed up our booking . So we went and found this Indian restaurant in Montpellier. Food was superb, very friendly service definatly go here again highly recommend.

Well I have reported about this establishment before. That said I walk into great company by the staff . Tony is lovely and Andrew and Junior are caring. You can eat an Indian in many places but if you like Indian food go to Shezan. I rather like hot chicken curry and the sauce is different but great at this restaurant. Just try it . No thrills just great grub !

Stopped off here with a friend for a last minute curry after a few beers ,super friendly staff , the Goan chicken curry was epic

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was superb and the staff very friendly and attentive. The food was authentic and absolutely delicious. We are the Goan Chicken Curry, the Goa Fish and a chicken Korma, all of which I would highly recommend. Will definitely visit again and again.

Had been out working and need a good meal, to question go to Shezan

We were looking forward to a at Shezan,,, A place that seems to get good reviews, And no recommendations from friends.

It was a Wednesday evening roughly at 8 pm I decided to get a Curry. On entering , the restaurant was nice and warm and there was a wonderful atmosphere of people chatting between themselves and the background music. For a Wednesday I was taken by how busy it was.

Since we booked an early table and there were very few other diners the near on 1 and a half hour to get mains was not acceptable. The place needed a bit of tlc and a paint and the very hot curry’s were certainly no more than medium !

I stayed in Chelt for 18 months & tried all the Indian restaurants as I love a good curry. Many look swanky but really don't deliver. Shezan is exceptional, food is fresh & tasty. Flavours of the fresh spices really light up your senses & the nan breads are delicious.

A group of us dined here recently on a Friday night which was pre booked.

Visited Shezan for a lovely curry. The food is consistently good here as is the service. I can recommend the Goan curry and the owners are what makes this place work.

Went to Shazan's for dinner, had phoned and booked table. The staff here are the best nothing is too much trouble. But the best thing is the food, there lamb dishes are the best but the chicken is also great in the 25 + years I have been going there it is the best in Cheltenham .....

(él estaba bebiendo café) fue muy agradable hablar así que cuando estábamos al lado en Cheltenham nos acordamos y decidimos visitar su restaurante. Visited with some friends from out of town. The service was friendly and quick taking time with each table. The food is excellent and brought to the table piping hot and in balti dishes. One of the best curries in Cheltenham.

Came with friends straight from the races in cold April and was welcomed immediately by the owner who has a very dry sense of humour, and remembered one of our party from many years ago, the chicken shashlik was super and all curries served in authentic metal bowls - all found the food really tasty and great service, looking forward to returning soon

We arrived about 6pm having a meal before a Birthday visit to the theatre, the food came out and actually seemed good, if a bit pricey, it was just 3 hours later during the theatre that I realised it wasn't, I have never been so ill, we returned to speak to the owner after the show, he refused to accept any responsibility saying it wasn't his food, I probably eat more curry than he does and I have never been ill before so I think I know my body and what it was, I gave him the chance to put things right but he had no intention of doing so, you had your chance Mr Shezan- Good luck to anyone who eats there.

having not been out to eat for some time and having been racing at the night meeting in Cheltenham. The only place in Cheltenham to match a nights racing, Shezan was the only place to go The food is always the best BET and the staff are the best BET. There is little esle to say expect if youn have not been you must go .....

We always go to Shezan for a reliable no frills Indian. Have a great Goan Chicken curry and Pilau. Service was prompt and friendly.

Im from the midlands where its hard to get a bad Indian. Ive tried most in the town and hands down Shezan is the best, its not your typical madras or vindaloo type place. All the staff are spot on and the price is reasonable. The place maybe looks a bit dated but its the food that counts and its superb. The mango chutney and lime pickle is the mutts Nutts

The food was delicious.!!!! However, the service was very disappointing. Such a shame!!! Once the food was delivered to the table there was no further attention received from the waiting staff. Had wanted to order another side dish but was out of their sight and couldn't get their attention, consequently, I gave up. Likewise, waited ages to attract attention of staff to request a glass of wine. Yet, when I had finished my meal there was no offer of coffee as I was told by the owner that they wanted the table ..... from an hospitality/service viewpoint, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Terrible smell of drains, too, on entry and when using the bathrooms downstairs...

Food is fresh and tasty. Been several times and always good. Authentic food. Suggest booking as always busy! But we always get a table. Quiet restaurants usually say something! Getting drinks was slow.

Had been watching the rugby with friends in the pub so we decided we needed some food to soak up the beers and curry is always a winner for this. I have been to Shezan but many years ago as I don't live in Cheltenham anymore but I did seem to remember it was quite nice previous times I have been.Arrived mid evening, couldn't say exactly when, but was surprised as to how quiet it was. Obviously no problem getting a table. It was the Saturday after the week of the Cheltenham Gold Cup so maybe not so many folk going out that night?Everything was okay but the place just seemed a bit run down compared to how I remembered it and a bit lacking in atmosphere mainly due to the lack of people there.Had poppadoms which arrived promptly along with a good selection of pickle, chutney etc. and our drinks. Ordered and decided to go straight for mains.I had a chicken Karahi which was pretty good accompanied by pilau rice and a garlic nan. The portions didn't seem that big and I managed to eat it all which I suppose is probably a good thing as I'd usually struggle and leave some. Quality was good on the whole.Got the bill after that and was a bit taken back by the cost, nearly £50 for two mains a few sides and poppadoms + 2 x small bottles of Kingfisher. Maybe I'm a bit out of touch as I don't get out much these days but it did seem a bit pricey. Enjoyed it though so maybe the quality was reflected in the cost.

On Cheltenham's busiest day of the year, Tony & Neame served us fantastic food with great service. Every time myself or friends go to the Shezan we always have a brilliant time!

We had a takeaway this time. I always choose the Jalfrezi Chicken with rice and I also ordered Chicken Saag for a friend. The food here is always tasty. I never feel let down or disappointed. The service from all the staff is friendly and the pricing is right.What needs to be pointed out is how happy customers are who eat here and I also think the spices they use are some of the best. We must meet for dinner OK say the same every year well this year booked table and we arrived. THe food as ever at this resturant again was great, a comment made by one of the dinner's was all the dishes looked different.( What they ment was each sauce was correct to the dish,, not as in some resturants just put it on a plate and offer up the sauce that is there) The Lamb is the best and the chicken on the hot dish is well worth a try.If you not been go...

Food is very well cooked and traditional. Recommend. Portions could be larger but make up for size in taste!

The montpellier based Shezan is one of the better Indian restaurants in Cheltenham. It is well placed, a short walk from town and has a nice setting.The food is the main thing and it doesn't disappoint. Good portion sizes and luscious quality means you don't go away hungry. The meals are served in metal bowls which are really cool and easier to easy from I reckon! Would highly recommend, there are a few Indian restaurants in montpellier alone but go to the shezan if you're trying to decide.

Phoned ahead table for 2 ok. Arrived table ready ordered glass of beer and house red as ahouse wine it is very good, Menus arrive order sizzaling chicken as a starter Whow what a dish chicken onions peppers and the odd chilli beware they add a little heat but in a very good way. Order and fish dish and chicken dish, both where the best. This resturant is always clean and the staff give very good advise on the menu, If you have not been go it's the best and does not need to enter any prize shows to prove it. Eat well eat SHEZAN.....

I have purchased food from every indian in Cheltenham in the last 20 years... and there is a lot of them. Shezans is the best, consistant, quality, service, price. They are flexible polite and very helpful. The food is always excellent and great value. Yes the restaurant is dated and hardly fine dining, but it smacks of proper indian. Down side can be the draught lager which is a bit hit and miss and serve in a glass that creates a flat lifeless drink. Should be your go-to Indian in Montpellier

One of the most flavoursome meals I've had out for a long time. We were craving a good asian meal full of flavour and this place did not disappoint. Each dish is made fresh and was top draw, we will be coming here again when back for the racing! Thank you Shezan!

A group of six of us went to the Shezan Balti Restaurant and every one of us enjoyed and appreciated our meal, the atmosphere and the friendly staff. The pickle tray and poppadum were good and I followed this with an nice mixed starter - chicken tikka, onion pakora, samosa and I swapped in some sheekh kebab vice a chicken wing, I followed this with a plain naan and Nawabi Lamb Biryani with vegetable curry, all of which was excellent. All 6 of us had a different main course and all were to the same high standard. Top call for a really nice restaurant and if you're in the Montpellier area of Cheltenham and feeling peckish, do yourself a favour and give it a try!

Habitué du Shezan, j'ai décidé de changer de type de plats pour découvrir d autres saveurs. Mix grill et side dishes d aubergines et d epinards. La viande etait parfaitement grillées yc les crevettes. Les legumes simplement incroyables avec la fraicheur des épices. Un nan à l ail pour remplacer le riz. Bon Lassi pour accompagner.

Visited n a Saturday night. All the staff were very friendly, taking time to explain all the dishes and offering slight alternatives. Service was attentive, prompt and the food tasted lovely

Just drlven back from the north and a feeling of hunger, Shezan is open in we good table 7 the best menu and poppadoms arrive .All the dish's are great the chicken and the lamb are real not the kind you get in many other restaurants of this type. The house wine white or red is excellent and goes wll with all the dish's. So that's all I can say .You must go and enjoy......

This is a little restaurant found by following our noses! I had chicken rogan josh and the flavour was amazing - the best curry I've ever tasted. The service was very good too. I would highly recommend it.

Wednesday evening supper was lovely - great Poppadoms and dips - really good Rogan Josh made with lamb that was tender and tasted like lamb. Lovely service from a Indian waiter and a English waitress. Down side it's grubby and needs ,money spending on it. Dirty looking carpets, tired decor and the toilet area smells terrible. Luckily we had eaten first otherwise you would worry! You could have something special here just need to smarten everything up a bit

Everything was perfect except for the temperature: too warm. Food: amazing, from the fish to the meat. People who works there are lovely and caring. I will definitely come back.

First time we've been to Shezan. Nice decor, warm welcome and superb food. We had lamb Karachi and Goa masala fish, with a mutter paneer side - all delicious. Will definitely be back!

I had the chicken Jalfrezi, and I don't normally have jalfrezi. This was one of the best Indian sauces I have tasted, and I have 36 years experience. This was HOT and advertised as hot, because of the fresh chillies and herbs. Superb. If in this area go here for excellent Indian food, location and service. Enjoy.

Booked table, arrived great hello from the staff, order drinks and shown to the table.Have been many times so I nearly know the menu. Order not a long wait when it arrive the smell comes first and then you see the food and you can not wait to eat, the chicken and the lamb is REAL not some meat throw together in a machine. These is one of the best thing about Shezan's the food is very fresh. If you have not eaten here you are missing a real GEM in Cheltenham . Book and go today..........

Been coming here for years and the food has always been excellent. Owner very friendly and knowledgable too. Most importantly though; my wife and child aren't the easiest to cook for - Gluten, Soy and Dairy free. This is never a problem, if necessary options and alternatives (Coconut milk vs Milk for example) are always clearly explained and the dishes arrive delicious and trouble free every time. Recommended.

Let me start by saying that the owner of Shezan is amazing! We stopped in the night before we dined and asked if he could prepare an opening course of their super secret lamb chops for us the following night and he happily obliged. The results were nothing short of amazing! I can honestly say that the lamb chops were one of the best dishes I have ever consumed anywhere! Everyone in our party was completely blown away by the food! If you are seeking authentic Indian cuisine in Cheltenham, Shezan is your destination! Highly recommended!

The food is absolutely, delicious and most amazing flavours, we had the best Indian in Cheltenhm, the food was sublime, the service second to none and all so very charming, you are most welcomed as you arrive, seated immediately and the charm never stops, as for the food from start to finish it's absolutely amazingly yummy, a must for a superb meal!!!

This is the best resturant in Cheltenham for this type of food. Staff and management always pull out the stops to make it a dining treat. We ate sizzling chicken and lamb, This a well priced place that gives very very value for your money

Shezan serves the best Indian food in the UK! The food is cooked to order and served by a friendly staff. My only complaint is that after eating at Shezan I can't enjoy Indian food anywhere else.

This is a great place for a casual evening dinner. I've tried several different mains over a few visits and enjoyed all of them. The food is nothing fancy but really tasty and good portions. The staff are friendly and there is a nice family restaurant vibe.

Went for a meal to the Shezan last night. As always the food was fresh,piping hot and was lovely. Took wife and sister's in laws for dinner. We eat here about once a month eat in or take away .The staff are the best and can explain the menu we all had chicken in some form in a curry Mine came on a hot plate and was the best all the chicken and the lamb is fresh not processed food. Go you will enjoy the food and atmoshiere

I have never been to Gloucester before and chose this Balti house pretty much at random without having checked any reviews in advance. Being a business traveller I am on the move all the time, often eating in unfamiliar restaurants, it is very rare for me to post any reviews.External appearance was unassuming but inside looked honest, well lit and the diners appeared happy!The atmosphere inside was genuinely friendly, welcoming and quite homely. It is a fairly small place so would fill up quickly on a busy night.The food was excellent, quick to arrive, well presented and very tasty. Probably the best Indian food I have had for 2 or 3 years - well done.I believe that good service and honest endeavour should be recognised - based on my experience with this meal I marked Shezan10 out of 10 and will return the next time I am in the area.

Very limited menu and if it's not on the menu then you cant have it. However the jafrezi is tasty despite not really being hot and the waiting staff are polite. It is expensive and although I don't really rate it, it's better than the other curry house in montpellier

We went there on a Tuesday night after the theatre and had a very enjoyable meal. I had a delicious lamb jalfrezi, although it was different than what I would normally expect , as it was more like a madras, with no chunky onions, peppers or chillies, however the meat was so tender. very good service(but we were the only ones there so no excuses really) A little more expensive than back home but would recommend.

You'd be forgiven for missing Shezan as its squeezed between the Rotunda and Strada. It is without question the best Indian Restaurant in Gloucestershire. (And believe me I've been to them all) The food is consistently fantastic. The two owners are very friendly.

My son booked for 6 of us to eat here.I had not been previously but other members of my family have.We received a very warm welcome and were quickly seated and drinks served.The food chosen was from a wide range on the menu and was excellent.Very attentive and helpful staff.A delightful evening much enjoyed by my family.We shall return for another meal soon.

We went for dinner after work. Booked a table for 13. Took over an hour to get starters out and even longer to get mains out. Slightly overpriced but the food was wonderful. Wouldn't go back as a group would probably be better for couples.

Went here after racing, lovely curry! Owner is a smashing chap and spent ages with our group chatting away. Will 100% return here soon! We arrived very late but we were not rushed at all and the Jalfreizi is amazing but so hot!!

Naan bread was good. Curry was ok, but not up to the standard of the more modern places in Cheltenham. The toilets are sticky and the carpets dirty. Two of our party had delicate tummies the next day! Up market prices , only average food, damp smells - no reason to return

We visited here on a Thursday night, and it was reasonably busy. Food arrived quickly, starters were very tasty. For mains we had a tandoori mixed grill and a rogan josh. Both were excellent and very tasty. About average for prices, and we would visit again definitely. The restaurant itself, decoration wise, was a bit on the shabby side but when the food is as good as it is, it's really not an issue.

Once again at Shezan. Tested the prawn puri and the jenga. Great taste of fresh spice. Sweet lassi to drink with was perfect. I will come back soon.

Went to ashes an after a cricket match up the road. Didn't book, but 12 of us rocked up as it opened and we were greeted well, drinks orders taken quickly and food just after. The menu isn't the bog standard one you get in any curry house. There were many dishes i'd never heard of, and all 12 of us were pleased with the food from popadoms to starters to mains. Not a cheap place to eat but that's cheltenham for you!

Not sure about the quality of the food here to be honest.Visited with friends who are all curry fans.Every dish we had was only average at best but charged at quality prices. Would strongly stay away from the Goan fish curry as it was obviously frozen deep fried battered fish which didn't work at all - although the sauce was good.Bindi was the worst I have ever had and that tells a storey to me about the other food on offer.Seems like the locals may like it and we just picked wrong dishes but I'm not sure !Average at best - no top picks

Took my mother for her 92nd brithday she ask if we could go there, my wife and I said yes as we have used Shezan for over 20 years. The food and the sevice as always was the tops, The last time we went took my Grand Son he was impreessed as well, this is the best restaurant for any age group. The owners are the best Patrons in Cheltenham.

Tony and his team at Shezan offer 'proper Indian cooking' not 'English Indian' hence it is better tasting and better quality than most around. The booze is cheap too and the atmosphere is great be it as a business or pleasure visit. Fantastic place, try it!!

Ce restaurant est devenu mon point de ralliement à chacun de mes voyages. Découvert avec des collègues il y a plusieurs années, c'est la valeur sûre du voyage. Une nourriture indienne variée, plus ou moins pimentée, mais épicée comme il faut. Tout est frais, poisson ou viande. Bien suivre la signalétique piment pour éviter les surprises...

Shezan's has the best Goan chicken curry in the world! Nice and hot and full of flavour. I've tried other curries here which are good but the Goan is the best and we go here for this curry! Their Dal is excellent too. Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the service is spot on. It's a no fuss restaurant and everybody goes here that likes good curry!

I went here on the last day of March and had a lovely Green Curry. The background music was very pleasant, the staff attentive and the food was impressive. I would gladly recommend and return

Food: Great naan, but rice and curries were pretty mediocre. Kulfi for dessert was bought, lacking in taste and pricey at £4.50 for a tiny portion. Service started well and then was very inattentive despite the restaurant being only a 1/4 full. Our table wasn't wiped over after the main, rice and curry marks left on the table. Not really worth a visit.
