Terrace Charcoal Grill & Lounge Bar in Shropshire

Ate here a year ago, when first opened. Slow service & I fell on the wet (rainy) entrance (no mat) - really hurt my back. Returned last night, for drinks only but totally disappointed. Yet again! Security let us in. We were told too big of a party to sit together - 7 of us. However, Owner then told us we couldn’t take up 2 tables 🤷‍♀️ Plus my friend was questioned on the amount of alcohol he’d drunk 🥴 He was sitting quietly reading the drinks menu! We left. To be fair to the Owner, he did come over to talk this over with my husband, after we left. But, none of us will be returning…. Or recommending this place. We are a group of professionals, not shy in spending money…

Very good place to stop eating something. Amazing how personal that works here treats you and serving you. Very kind ,always smiling and trying to be at your expectations or even more. You won't regret it if you stop and eat here.

Service was terrible and staff were rude, left before ordering anything. Very disappointed. On my experience I would not try again.

An absolutely amazing place! I had my 21st birthday party here last night and it was perfect. James - the owner is fantastic and so friendly. From booking, to having the party James has been so attentive and i could tell he wanted to make sure it was all perfect. I have also eaten here in the past, and the food is amazing!! i would highly recommend for any type of occasion, be that a casual lunch to parties! I can’t wait to go back for a cocktail by the river. Thanks again Terrace Bar!

Amazing venue. Excellent service. Held my daughter’s 21st birthday party here. Would definitely recommend. Even the rain didn’t spoil the evening.

We have always wanted to try here, and so it was booked for my birthday by my husband. We came as a family, and were not disappointed, food was very tasty, tho portions could have been a bit bigger, especially with 2 grown up sons. Apart from that, everything was great, fantastic staff and service, the chef came to talk to us and asked if we had any questions regarding the menu. Cocktails were delicious, and to top it all, I had a free dessert for my birthday 😋 A great location, will be lovely in the summer. Well done, keep up the good work 👏

Came here for a cocktail and was blown away by the great customer service we received. Smartly dressed and took time out to talk and recommend places to go afterwards. Everyone was smiling and friendly, would definitely recommend.

What a lovely place, so welcoming. The food was excellent, I had a sirloin steak that was sublime. The staff were wonderful and so accommodating. Cypriot food was so special.

My Fam and i Had a lunch and we were the only guest during that time...It took 50 mins before the food arrived...Then when the food arrived the chicken Skewers served not in Skewer and the serving was ver very very small portion..Anf also the meat was not cook in charcoal i am quitely sure...But the waiter who serves us was very accomodating.. And the is very nice..

My family and I went there for lunch. The view and place looked beautiful. We thought that the food would be good. Sadly, as we ordered, we had to wait a long time and when our food came out, they were such small portions. We had ordered the skewers and was disappointed to find out that they were not grilled as it states in the menu. We had to pay such an overpriced food. I'm sorry, but I don't think we will go back there again.

We were impressed with the view and the food but especially with the service, which was as good as I've experienced anywhere. Owners and staff that really care about the guest experience. Top food, top location and fantastic service. Very impressive.

What can I say . . . AMAZING! The service was wonderful, very polite and professional. As for the food, it was out of this world! The food was cooked beautifully, to perfection from starter to pudding! We will be returning with friends and family!!!!

Excellent place for a Sunday brunch. While the menu isn't presented as such - we ate from the lunch menu - the food and terrific coffee in this riverside bar and grill make for a savoury late morning/mid-day meal. Definitely popping back for dimmer.

Been trying for a while to get here. We'll worth the wait. Charcoal skewers have an excellent taste, and lovingly cooked.

Service, food, drinks, ambience all fantastic. Can’t fault the terrace. The weather was atrocious and so we were glad of the heaters. We’re out of towners and had tried a couple of other restaurants in Shrewsbury and this was the best by far. The chef and waiter were fab, interacting, advising re the menu, making recommendations and providing additional tasters etc. We highly recommend.

Absolutly terrific. They've transformed this place from what it was and having followed the progress it's clear the hard work is paying off. I had the evening menu, and the steak was top notch. I'm not usually one to go for desserts but this were terrific. Best pastry I've ever tried. Staff were terrific and very attentive. I went in the winter and it made for a wondeful atmosphere and feeling. In the summer it will be spot on too as it'll get lots of evening sun. Highly recommend you give it a go.

This was our first visit to this establishment and we were absolutely blown away! We visited as a group of 4 for lunch and from the moment we arrived we were very impressed with the layout and scenic view of the river and the warm welcome from the staff. The attentiveness of our waiter was excellent and the chef even popped out to engage in conversation and to talk to us about the menu and offered recommendations as what to order. We all went for the locally sourced Sirloin steak and I must say that it was the best steak I have ever tasted, the charcoal grill really does make such a difference and it was cooked to perfection (medium rare). We found the prices to be very competitive and the quality was second to none. We have been lucky enough to eat out all over the country from London to Edinburgh and it is so nice to discover this Shrewsbury gem! After our meal, the chef popped out of the kitchen to offer us a taste of the beef skewers as well and these were AMAZING and will definitely be ordered on our next visit, which I hope will be very soon! From our home in North Shropshire, we are so lucky to have this establishment on our doorstep. Bravo!

The Terrace has now a fully covered area and as such you wouldn’t know it’s ’outside’ the heaters do a great job Staff are very accommodating and they have made efforts to make it fully inclusive for wheelchair users, by the addition of a disabled toilet and a ramp to access this to overcome a step . Food was enjoyable and the choice of drinks made mainly by Kieron ; are great We shall be returning in the future,we certainly would recommend you try them. In the summer this place will be buzzing I hope .

Terrible lunch. Only people there. Small flaccid pieces of pork/chicken, cold pittas and small dish of 'salad'. Would have refused to accept but we were treating a friend before hospital and she chose restaurant because close to station. Shrewsbury is full of great restaurants so stay away from this one.

Called in for cocktails and nibbles here. It's a fabulous little place with a superb river location The cocktail was right up my street and completely delicious. The "nibbles" were ridiculously sublime. We were only visiting Shrewsbury, but will without doubt call again if we are in town.

I’ve eaten here a few times now and had drinks in the bar with family and friends. Beautiful venue, located right on the river, you feel like you’re in the countryside. Lovely chilled music and relaxed atmosphere. Food was great, really well cooked, juicy chicken (so pleased they’re using local butchers and suppliers for positive field to fork), love the coleslaw and terrace herbs. Pitta with the dips is a favourite bar snack for my daughter! Great wine list and range of cocktails and very reasonably priced given the unique location. Great service, super friendly staff with a real personal touch. I’ll be going back!

I have been here on three occasions now, once with a colleague, once with family and once with friends. We have always been made to feel like an inconvenience to the staff, twice we have asked for food and been told we can't have any (restaurant too busy on one occasion, restaurant "closed" on another, which was 8pm on a Friday). The young staff mostly seem to stand around chatting and seem inconvenienced and irritated by customers. I think this place needs some experienced senior management asap! The location is lovely and I really wanted to support a new local business (which is why I've kept returning) but you're really not going to last long unless you start turning some of this around.

Can't fault the food and service . Steaks were amazing. Cocktails fab. Just so cold, only 2 heaters. Need more heating.

First visit here with a large crowd of friends, great service and atmosphere. the cocktail mixer was particulary good, friendly and made great mocktails for the under 18's with us. Will def visit again.

We had a flavour filled lunch today , Hummus and pitta starter, followed by chicken and vegetable skewers, both char grilled to perfection . The mains came with a gorgeous really fresh little feta salad and pitta bread . The staff were lovely ,explaining how they only used fresh local produce which is cooked on a charcoal grill. They also made our beverages exactly how we like them . I would definitely reccomend this restaurant.

The steak was so delicious The staff were also very friendly. The scenery was also very pretty. We are tourists and stopped by by chance. Seeing that there are so many customers, I think it is a famous restaurant.

I have come in many time to the venue and it has been fantastic every time. However I come in 3 weeks ago and got seated straight away by a lovely lady and felt welcomed intill I got spoken to horrible by the young lady on the bar on my way to the toilet. Pretty sure her name began with an F as I heard one of the waiters say her name. She was so disrespectful and quite frankly rude never thought i would be spoken to like that in a nice venue like this. However the food was amazing as always but I will not be coming to this venue again until Actions are taken further.

Sadly food isn't great, the chicken kebab isn't cooked on charcoal and tastes very bland, the fries are an extra £4.50 and are very small. The setting is nice and is a good place to go for drinks but after trying the food a couple...

Lovely place to sit on the terrace, chat and sample a drink. Very good quality wines with good choices. Also nice place for a morning coffee or tea and cake. Not eaten here yet but those who were were enjoying it Spoke to the owner...

After a long 41/2 train journey without air con back to Shrewsbury, we wanted something decent and filling in a fresh air environment What a lovely gem of a place Shaded and overlooking the river Staff very friendly . Service with a smile Aroma was...

So, our first visit to the Terrace was a bit of a disaster. We couldn’t get in at first as it was busy, but we waited at the Alb opposite (great pub) and managed to get a seat about 45 minutes later We were only in for drinks and to try the place to book food in the future. The venue is quite packed, with little space between tables. Very busy in the bar area, but not much going on for food as far as we could see. We ordered drinks. Nothing fancy, just beer and waited…..and waited….and waited…..after 20 mins we left! So we can’t comment on the drinks, although we could see the beer was being ‘livened up’ by whisking with a straw, so maybe giving up and moving on was a good move. As we left, we were thanked by the guy who showed us to our table. Oblivious to the poor service and the fact we hadn’t even had a drink. It would be unfair to have an opinion beyond the poor service. We visited and sat outside but have not tried the food or the drinks, and never will! First impressions - don't bother!

We had a birthday celebration for my boyfriend and the food and drinks were amazing. The staff was really attentive and kind. Highly recommended. Definitely coming back soon. P.S. Best Margarita in town!

1st time of going to this bar, we thought we would give it a go. Cocktails were really expensive and very vodka based, wife doesn't like vodka. The only had 1 beer on draft which was Italian, wife asked if they had a Martini Rosso waitress went off and came back with the drinks wife asked the waitress if she knew what a rosso was she didn't neither did the bar staff obviously as the drink the wife was given was definitely not rosso. Asked for Rose spritzer with lemonade, drink came, no lemonade in it the waiter went off and came back saying they had no lemonade so they made it fizzy with something else. It was 4.30 on a Saturday afternoon and they run out of lemonade We only had one drink and wouldn't go back again which is a shame as the venue is great right next to the river

Had to go and check out @terraceshrewsbury one of Shrewsburys newest bar and eateries. As expected it had a relaxed vibe complete with views over the river. ⭐️4/5 Recommended👍🏻 Price 💸💸/💸 The menu is simple and made up largely of kebabs, burgers and steaks. Opting for pork and chicken kebabs our meat was well cooked with the charred bbq flavour you would expect but still juicy. Portion wise we would have hoped for more sizeable pieces of meat but we enjoyed the accompanying cucumber salad with micro herbs and sweet heritage tomatoes. We felt it needed something with a kick to elevate the dish and thankfully our waiter suggested a chilli and red onion salsa which was great. If this was served alongside the tatziki it would definitely up the game. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would definitely return for drinks especially if the sun is shining. Despite all of the outside area offering shelter there is no indoor seating. The choice of food is limited but of a decent standard and the service couldn’t be faulted

Wanted to try for a while and eventually managed to grab a lunchtime meal. Venue and views were amazing. Greeted on arrival and order placed quickly. Unfortunately the food was not the best. Had the hummus dips for starters which didn't have a lot of...

The sun was shining and after a long journey to meet friends, what better than a few drinks in the sunshine by the Severn. Except, we were seated by the busy road. Early Friday evening, two tables free on the other side of the terrace...

Thought we would give this place a try and support it as a new business. Only called for drinks with friends, a bottle of wine and a cocktail was ordered, around 20mins later the cocktail arrived, followed by the bottle of wine! Honestly it wasn't...

Excellent service, fabulous food cooked over a charcoal grill . We spend time in Turkey and this is a great asset to Shrewsbury.

Had a wonderful lunch at The Terrace. We all had chicken skewers and fries served with a feta salad. There was a bit of a wait for food but that’s to be expected when food is cooked freshly - we didn’t mind a bit. Waitress service was excellent and drinks flowed nicely. Great location which can’t be beaten. Will definitely be returning.

Visited for lunch and was very disappointed. We ordered food and soft drinks. The food took 30-40 minutes to come out and was very small portions given the price. We had to ask for cutlery as none was laid up when we ordered. The burger was dry and unseasoned, but it seemed the chips had been tossed with a huge amount of salt. The chicken skewer was also unseasoned, just grilled and came with a store bought pitta and a very small salad with too much olive oil. There was no check back for the drinks or the food and when I asked for the bill, I was just presented with the card machine and a price. I had to ask for an itemised bill and did not get a chance to read over it properly as the waitress was still trying to take payment. It was only after that I realised that the menu prices are different to the actual price of the items, the menu stated £10, for the burger but it was £14.95 on the receipt. As we left, we were not acknowledged or thanked by any of the many staff members working.

We stumbled across this jem last week, Me and the wife were having are 1st day trip to Shewsbury, we just found the Terrace as we were on are way back to car park, as the down pour had started . The food was incredible, so we'll presented. I would give it at least 10/10 considering they had only been open 11 days this will be a credit to Shewsbury. The staff were very attentive and polite and a great asset I do hope we get chance to come down and visit you all again Thanks

A friend and I came here for lunch a couple weeks ago. Wonderful looking area with great raincover. Unfortunately we waited 1hr 15 minutes for food. At 50 minutes I asked how long we could expect to wait as the table next to us had ordered a few minutes before us, they had eaten and left in this time. I was told that "if only people would understand that charcoal cooking can't be rushed". When our food did arrive it was good but nothing amazing (especially for the price). Although, the mocktail we both had was amazing. Overall definitely wouldn't eat here again and questionable whether I would have a drink here due to the service.

Went here on Friday evening. Was really looking forward to trying this new riverside bar. However, we were all really disappointed. Beer was rank, was served from some strange pods but not bottled or draught. We left most of our drinks. Furniture was extremely cheap and uncomfortable and very cluttered. Weather was cold but no heaters or blankets. No music, no atmosphere and just couldn't wait to get out. Everything looks cheap and low quality - from the decor and furniture to the WC facilities. Shame as it's a nice location. No parking either which doesn't help. We left and went to other nicer bars and won't be going back here. Sorry.

Very basic burger, very dry. Place is beautiful but really slow service ( guessing this will improve with time ) but they really need to work on food

The food was delicious- I had the portobello mushrooms and my friend had a steak, which was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and then there were the beautiful views of the river top it all off. Will definitely be back again.

A wonderful addition to Shrewsbury's 'foodscape' Fantastic location and possibly the best place to sit back by the river and enjoy the excellent food, superb wine and lovely owners and staff who, in our experience, go the extra mile for their clientele. A refreshing change to find a restaurant who not only sources their food locally, but also only cook over a charcoal grill and don't possess a microwave or freezer. Fresh good quality food simply cooked, what's not to love.

Very disappointed when visiting for lunch. Ordered our chicken skewers and waited (and waited, and waited!) After about an hour, we allerted waitress to say food hadn't arrived. She responded by saying the charcoal grill takes time to get hot! She asked us to wait a further 10 minutes. No food arrived and we decided to pay for our sparkling water and leave hungry. When paying the bill, we questioned the real reason why our food hadn't arrived. Eventually the senior waitress admitted to the ordering systems not working efficiently and she had failed to order our meals from her note pad! We challenged her about her reason for telling lies and spoke to joint owner before leaving. We shall not visit again until we are reassured that staff are honest and transparent when dealing with questions from customers. What a shame! As this venue is in a.lovely location and the seating is so comfortable and relaxing.

Shame on the individuals for the bad review, clearly the same couple as it reads the same 😂 May i add that this is a brand new business, with no experience. They’re bound to encounter teething problems. What a shame some people have nothing better to do than already try and tarnish it without giving it a proper chance. Always room for improvement, but let the business have time to grow. I was made to believe all food is locally sourced and fresh and i can definitely agree from what I received. You will not be disappointed!

Had to order food twice as they forgot about it. Slow service and wouldn’t give any money off. In my opinion staff were rude and unorganised. Wouldn’t come again.

Had to make 2 orders to get my food as the waitress didn’t put it down the first time, leading to my food taking 40 minutes to receive. Service was quite frankly rude and when taking the bill was very in organised and ended up waiting another 20 mins just to pay. Never received the full bill and never got offered it. Will not be coming again!
