The Baby Grand in Glasgow City

I have been coming to the BG for over 30 years. It holds special memories and the staff are always fabulous. Last night was a mixed bag. One absolutely lovely waitress with red hair who was so attentive and checked on us regularly with a friendly manner. Contrast . Waitress with green hair. The rudest most unhelpful person I have ever come across in any establishment. Dreadful attitude . Face like thunder and banging things around. Would never normally write this but goodness she needs sacked !! Spoke to a friend who said he has experienced the exact same thing from her. It’s not a one off!

Visited after Oliver at the Kings. Had a wonderful time. Waiting staff rushed off their feet and still rocked it. My friend and I shared everything and the food was glorious. I had halloumi fries and the sauces with them blew my tiny wee mind. Friend has three types of humous that I may of may not have finished. They had the chicken schnitzel with lime potato salad and loooved both. I had fancy Mac and cheese with jalapenos, perfect veggie treat on night out. Really really happy. What a treat. Highly recommend.

We chose this place as it was so close to Kings Theatre were we were going to see a show. We made an early booking and chose the pre-theatre menu. The service was quick and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was nice too with the piano being played in the background. It was good value for money. Recommend to book in advance.

surprised to see some of the negative reviews. My friend and I went here yesterday for lunch. I used to eat a lot in Glasgow but have reduced mobility so this restuarant was ideal being right outside the station. I had mussels followed by the best macaroni (with salt beef topping) I have had and I am fussy with mac and cheese. My friend had the smoked salmon followed by the rotisserie chicken all washed down with a very nice Pinot Grigio. The two waiting staff were very attentive and pleasant. Will be back. Toilets were extremely clean

Dear god!!!! Horrendous experience.. waited 2 hrs for 1 course!! Steak turned up cold, returned with a new one after the other 3 guests had finished their burgers. The vegan chickpea burger was sloppy, fell apart twice over brand new dry clean only trousers, that now needs to be cleaned. Cocktail was more fruit juice the spirit and certainly not worth £9. Toilets not the best, no toilet roll. Loud atmosphere, so much so we had to shout. Service was intermittent at best. Very small choice of menu, not like the online menu suggested. Extremely disappointed as it was supposed to be a birthday celebration. Will NOT go again!!

Nice pub with a piano player and bar staff... Absolute stunner working behin the bar... wisnay having a good shift though I think 🤔 nice decooor and pricey but can see why! 🤣

Stopped by for some dinner before the theatre, not been in a long time and was pleased we went. Food was excellent, cocktails on point. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Atmosphere was cosy and warm.

Baby Grand is a beautiful restaurant bar in centre of Glasgow. Location is perfect for pre theatre drinks and food. Outside Charing Cross train station. Extremely handy for King's Theatre. Staff were very attentive and professional. Very quick service. Beautiful ambience and some lovely piano music. Great atmosphere would highly recommend. Jackson is a lovely waiter very helpful, informative with a great sense of humour. Food is delicious too. Highly recommended 👌

Came for the Pre-Theatre menu with partner and his parents. Didn't disappoint. Small choice, however something for everyone. Our food was lovely. The Hallumi starter was perfect. We all enjoyed our food. Later, the Pianist played. The staff were all lovely. it was a very relaxing atmosphere, and we all agreed we would come back. Thanks to the staff.

Nice evening spent in the company of friends at Baby Grand and a great evening it was. Had the A La Carte menu. starter was chicken tenders which were delicious, followed by Bone marrow burger. The venue was cosy and had a really nice ambience and the staff were attentive. I would definitely go back as I thought it was terrific.

Booked for 3rd Jan - Pre Theatre before Kings Theatre Panto. Staff were uninterested on arrival and throughout. This was a treat for my hard-working student daughter (who also serves p/time in Glasgow restaurant) Mussels off menu ( a blessing!!), so ordered salmon starter - believe I was served remains from back of fridge from early December - uugghh. Waitress plonked two plates in front of us and walked away - not our mains, but adjacent table’s order- but to be fair to server, she was stylish and consistent with her disdain towards all. Once the logistics of serving 8 tables was sorted, I was (40 minutes after arrival) served my “rib-eye” steak (£6 supplement). I attempted to slice and chew whilst my gut screamed “don’t swallow” so going with my gut I didn’t eat. Returned and manager who actually spoke to me, agreed it was off. I can honestly state this was the worst experience ever in a Glasgow restaurant. Staff awful and food worse. The first time in 30 years eating out, I didn’t leave tip for staff.

it was just ok. food was ok, drinks were ok. sunday roast was fine but the menu online was different from what was offered. service was under par, but thats what happens when your short staffed. we’ve been to better, we’ve been to worse. might try agin for just drink and ambiance

Have visited on a few occasions for drinks. This time we booked for food. Was not disappointed. Food was amazing. Not a big menu. Could either have a two or 3 course option. Restaurant was full. The piano being played was really nice. Would recommend the Salmon. 6oz Angus beef burger was amazing

Meal with Mother and her best friend prior to going to see Sunshine on Leith at Kings Theatre. Meal was superb(Fish &Chips, Mac Cheese, 2x sticky toffee pudds with ice cream plus lovely wine, service excellent and atmosphere great.

Lovely little place for pre-theatre lumch! We were a party of 5 adults going to Kings Threatre and looking for a pre-matinee lunch. The customer service was polite, friendly and helpful from the minute I booked a table over phone to the end of our visit. The food was really good and service quick. The atmosphere was cosy, jovial, and we felt very comfortable. Prices were a little high for what you get, but was comparable (and sometimes cheaper) to other places nearby. Would definitely recommend and will return again! 😀

The food was delicious and the service was above what I expected. Very clean tidy and welcoming. Highly recommended the fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding.

This a fairly small bar but rarely overcrowded and has a really nice atmosphere. There is often piano player at the baby grand, yes there actually is one and the staff are pleasant and well trained.

Absolutely fantastic night - the food was lovely - from starters of smoked salmon and chicken wings to the rotisserie chicken while my wife’s mum had the rib eye steak . Finished off by sticky toffee pudding and affegato - wow . And what a night - we were attending the cabaret night with a tribute to Cher and Shania Twain by Shona McVey. What a performer - great singer and so engaging with everyone - a fabulous night of entertainment and the staff all through this evening so attentive and efficient - brilliant place

Friday night in Glasgow. Wonderful dinners all around, great drinks, great service. Piano music in the background. They suggested great options for the kids and had many fantastic gluten free options. Highly recommend!

Great to visit here again, staff were amazing, pianist excellent, bar was clean and the food was reasonable, the outside patio is also well designed.

Very poor. Booked a table pre theatre and arrived to find the only menu was a Valentine's Special at £45 for 3 courses. This wasn't mentioned when we pre booked. The maitre d was pleasant enough though

I have been going to Baby Grand now for over 30 years!!!!! (How time flies...) The reason is that it has provided a consistently good place to dine, have drinks and be entertained by the live piano player who is fantastic. Whether you go for lunch, dinner, coffees and cake or an evening out drinking, Baby Grand has a relaxing atmosphere, good service and consistently good food. The menu always offers a nice selection of food at a very reasonable price. You are always in with a chance of local celebrity spotting once the cast from the Kings Theatre come in for their after show drinks.

The best veggie breakfast I have ever had! Freshly cooked, great staff will be back!

SMART WEE OASIS! What a great wee bar. It's smart, full of friendly staff and they have great cocktails! It's location is great too - close to theatres, transport and the buzz in general. Well worth a visit.

Nice place, live music, pianist playing and singing. Only criticism is the food. It's not great. Bland soup , burger overcooked. Helpful friendly staff.

Great night out. Bar staff really made it a good night - shout out to Jackson (Jazz).

The Menu outside displaying what was on the menu and prices seemed reasonable..However when we got offered a table and sat down inside the menu we received did not have a price list on the meals and we received a non itemised bill with an amount to pay at the end of our meal which was considerably higher than the prices on display outside .We tried to speak to someone after the meal and eventually found the waiter outside and he explained it was more expensive on an evening . Please beware before ordering a meal from this Establishment

I first noticed the appearance of this bar as inviting and welcoming, I decided to sit outside with a glass of dry white wine. Great service, very professional and warming. The food looks absolutely amazing, and the smell of fresh herbs and fresh food cooking, with relaxing music in the background makes for a great stop just off the train at charing Cross glasgow trainstation.

Great little restaurant close to Charing Cross Station. It's been there for over 30 years so that should tell you something.

Was quiet when we visited but looked nice, was very relaxed and spotlessly clean.

Absolutely fantastic food, the salt beef is one to try! A superb chef deserves all the credit, sadly we had a very poor front of house, well one in particular, forgot a drinks order, fork, a side dish, was told the bread couldn't be toasted (but it was), was told they didn't have mustard (they did), side dish came out after the main, spilt a drink which happens but no apology, was told we'd have the side taken off the bill but didn't, we ordered a bagel but got toast and generally very very slow. It's a real shame because the food was outstanding, we asked to pass on a thank you to the chef but wasn't passed on. However it's a must go to place.

The food and the service are always great here. The sandwich had no avocado as described. The staff took it in good humour.

The starter I had was delightful, the hummus was rich in its taste, enhanced by the avocado and the pitta bread was a wonderful addition to it. For the main, I had Grand Mac and Cheese and it was a delight. The texture and taste of it was wonderful and the jalapenos really elevated it for me. For the dessert I had the spiced plums and it was the perfect terminus for the courses, with it's sweet and spicy plums and cream with the biscuit-crunch leaving me very satisfied with what they have offered. Overall, I enjoyed my time in Baby Grand, the staff are wonderful, the beers I've had are great and the food has been fantastic, served brilliantly with not too long of a wait. Fully recommended to anyone who visits or lives in Glasgow

The pre-theatre menu is 2 courses for £14.95, so a fantastic price, especially considering the quality and portion size of the food. I will be very happy to return to this restaurant. Food was lovely and the new set up of the restaurant since I was last there was stunning. Only problem was the service. We only got our drinks when we were nearly finished our starters. After our dessert no-one came to remove our plates and ask us if we wanted coffee etc which we did. We waited for a bit then ended up forgetting about coffee and walking to front of restaurant where 2 staff where sitting and paid for our meal. A bit disappointing end but it won't stop us going back.

Food was good, unfortunately they were understaffed due to a staff member being sick which meant waiting a little longer for our meals. As we were in a hurry to go to the theatre we asked for our bill as we got our mains, paid by card (didn't scrutinise the bill) wasn't till I paid that I realised that I was charged for drinks that we didn't order £15 worth, spoke to manager who said that his assistant would deal with me, she refunded my money and apologised. I would advise checking the bill as when we were leaving someone else had a dispute with theirs.Makes me wonder if this was a one off or they are hoping that no one realises the mistake as they too are in a hurry.

Shocking service re booking , travelled 80 miles for a meal before the comedy club only to be told that our table had been given away without even asking the booking name , wont be booking again . Spoke to someone last night who said not a problem they would see me tomorrow night - sorry but I won't be back and will let everyone that I know not to book . So we now have nowhere now to eat .. NOT HAPPY and hungry

Great place... Neck Oil on tap, great pianist for atmosphere and attentive staff. What more could you want. Seek them out as they're off the beaten track.

Excellent for a drink, food and breakfast

First time here despite it being a stone's throw from work. Absolutely loved it. Angus Burger was superb and even better sitting outside in the sunshine. Will definitely be back.

Staff were lovely and the music was good. Our only gripe was that two older gentlemen who appeared to be the owners perhaps, came swanning in wearing no face coverings and wandered around for a lengthy period talking to staff at length. It's not difficult so show some respect to the rest of us please.

Always seems to have just ran out of certain brand of drink?

Quickly writing this as I still remember, it was mine and my significant others anniversary, we didn't expect much from the outside but once seated we had an amazing time. The service, atmosphere, and love music right beside us was fantastic, and can I say the young lady who served us Kaitlen was particularly fantastic.

Visited here today for first time since pandemic started, son had been desperate to return. Absolutely delicious food, all handmade, and lovely attentive staff. Meticulous with covid compliance. Please support this business, it’s in heart of theatre and office land so must have really been affected by pandemic. We are delighted it is still there and can’t wait to return.

Mucho ha cambiado y, aunque me encantó el aspecto del lugar antes, debo decir que ahora se ve fantástico. Gran ambiente junto al pase abierto y un chef amable que charló alegremente con nosotros. Emocionado por mi próxima visita.

Finalmente el encierro terminó y pudimos salir y comer en un restaurante adecuado. Puede que digas mucho, pero cuando viajas 240 millas solo para visitar The Baby Grand, eso dice mucho sobre este lugar.Llegamos aproximadamente 10 minutos antes de nuestra reserva y tuvimos que esperar afuera, lo cual no fue un problema ya que nos sirvieron bebidas en la zona de asientos exterior. Una vez que nuestra mesa estuvo lista, nos invitaron a pasar. Oh, cuánto extrañamos este lugar. El restaurante no estaba completamente abierto ya que el "ala este", donde generalmente reside el piano, estaba siendo remodelado, lo que significaba que no había música en vivo esa noche, pero la comida lo compensa. Aunque ya habíamos tomado unas copas, decidimos darnos un capricho y tomamos una copa de rosa y un spritz de Aperol. Ambos fueron maravillosos. El menú de comida en este momento es limitado en comparación con lo que estamos acostumbrados, pero dadas las circunstancias, esto es comprensible. Para empezar, mi esposa tenía los mejillones y yo tenía las 5 alitas de pollo. Esperaba las mini alas como las que obtienes en ciertas comidas para llevar de pollo, pero no; Me obsequiaron con 5 alitas de pollo de tamaño completo. Disculpe mi barbarie, pero no había forma de que pudiera usar un cuchillo y un tenedor para comerme a esos niños grandes, así que todo fue con los dedos para la bomba. Oh, qué hermoso suculento era el pollo y la salsa verde era sublime. Afortunadamente, la esposa tenía algunas toallitas para las manos y pude limpiarme la mayoría de las manos antes de ir al baño para lavarme bien las manos. Los mejillones de la esposa estaban perfectamente cocinados y la salsa tenía un toque de guindilla. Tuvimos un pequeño respiro antes del plato principal. la esposa había pedido la panceta de cerdo y yo pedí el pastel de pollo, pero pedí cambiar el puré de papas por papas fritas, lo cual estaba debidamente obligado, y tuve una orden de acompañamiento de brócoli con chile. Lamentablemente, cuando llegaron los platos principales, me presentaron algo diferente a lo que pedí. Cuando señalé esto, nuestro servidor no podría haberse disculpado más. Dicho plato fue retirado, al igual que las papas fritas y el brócoli, que se habían servido por separado para mantenerlos calientes. El servidor me explicó que mi pastel estaría listo en 10 a 15 minutos, eso está bien, dije. Lo siguiente que sé es que un tipo en la mesa de al lado se volvió y preguntó qué le pasaba. Le expliqué que se había traído el plato equivocado, pero la situación se estaba rectificando y todo estaba bien. Entré en una conversación de 5 minutos con este tipo sobre las alegrías del Baby Grand y resultó que tenía algo que ver con el restaurante y le pedí a un camarero que nos trajera 2 vasos de Prosecco gratis porque "se sentía mal" por el mezclar. Muy deportivo, pensé. Mi pastel llegó junto con mis patatas fritas y verduras y un tazón pequeño de salsa. Comida absolutamente alegre. Solo había espacio suficiente para un dulce, y como pudding de caramelo pegajoso estaba en el menú que nos vendieron, teníamos 1 cada uno. Una gran velada y todo lo que faltaba era el tipo tocando el piano. Un poco más de 70 para toda la comida y bebida.Volveremos? Ya planeando la próxima visita a Edimburgo en octubre para mi cumpleaños, vale la pena viajar para visitar el maravilloso bebé Grand.

Had dinner with some friends last night. The staff were excellent, food was delicious and the restaurant was very relaxed and comfortable with plenty of outdoor seating. Can't wait to come back when the live jazz is back.
