I know it’s early in the year but this is already my contender for 2024 Pub of the Year. It’s a lovely building in a terrific location, it looks great from the outside and the inside lives up to the billing - it’s clean, full of character and welcoming with two real fires blazing on the day of our visit. With a range of well-kept real ales, excellent menu and last but not least really nice staff what’s not to like.

Hi, Visited the Kings on 22nd January, a family get together of 16 people. Service was fabulous, and the food was superb. Now, I am a small eater, so I opted for the small Sunday lunch with beef, two things, firstly it was gorgeous AND hot (my bugbear - hate warm food), secondly, small, was not small at all, portions are very generous. My mother-in-law lives very close by, so, will definitely be back very soon to treat her again. Tony

A great place to visit very welcoming. The real ales are kept top notch. Food is good with good portions. It gets very busy so advice is to book for 4 or more. Popped in for a pint after a walk to St Mary's lighthouse. Opted for food when we were lucky enough to find a free table. It's a lovely pub, always warm especially on a winters day, friendly staff and a good menu. We opted for the small fish and chips, which was not, in our opinion small. Served wth homemade chips, mushy peas, good dollop of tartare sause and a lemon wedge! Even tho the place was full we did not have to wait long for our food, it was hot and delicious, and for £8.00 each, very good value for money. drinks are not overpriced , £8 00 for a pint of moretti and a pint of inches. Definitely will be returning.

Go here on the odd occasion with my sausage dog. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Beer temp is always spot on. Food is outstanding, a place I like to feast with my elderly mother however, you cannot take your dog in within feeding times so do check first (not on their website). I’m ok, as I have a service dog for Complex - PTSD. On the hole, it’s a great traditional pub with fire places and surrounding history. Give it a try, you won’t regret it.

Decided to go here for a meal this lunchtime, for the first time ever. (I've always gone to the other pub/restaurant nearer the main road.) I was able to park right outside for my elderly uncle to get in without too much difficulty! We ordered drinks which we got immediately and food a few minutes later. I chose the Minted lamb hotpot with mashed potatoes and melted cheese on top and my uncle chose the hadock and chips. We chatted for just a few minutes in this lovely old pub before being served with our meals. They were absolutely delicious! There was a load of succulent, slow cooked lamb with vegetables in a gorgeous gravy under the mash and cheese. Alongside was a half crusty sub roll with butter. I should have taken a photo but my bowl was nearly empty before I remembered! My uncle said his fish tasted really fresh and his chunky chips seemed like homemade! We will be back! As we were going out I remembered I'd forgotten to pay for the meal so I got my uncle to sit down on a picnic bench and went back in just in time to catch the barmaid coming to chase after us! We couldn't do a runner after a meal that good!!! (We can't run anyway, he's 87 and I'm 65!) 😂

A lovely homely pub with a restaurant style set up in one part of the ancient establishment. We were asked if we had booked a table on arrival to which we had not, so were ushered to the bar/lounge part of the Kings. ( The restaurant part did not get any people in whilst we were there which we would have preferred to sit in, but thought it was to become full due to being shown to the other end of the place ) We ordered our food and waited a little while whilst looking around the fascinating area we were sat in. It really is a lovely old, interesting public house with loads of history and things to view from days gone by. Our food arrived and it was found to be tasty and fresh. My choice of a fish finger sarnie was nice, but could have been a bit more fish fingerie, other than dippy and saucy, just a little more fish would have been perfect, certainly not worth mentioning to the team at the time, just an observation to which is not a complaint. My wives prawn choice was plentiful and filling which she enjoyed and mentioned was good and wholesome. A quiet atmosphere at the time we ventured in, just after midday with a few others eating out made it a rather nice hour or so. I am sure if you try it you will enjoy it here.

Packed out pub on a Sunday afternoon. Only seating was in smoking area outside or facing onto the road not ideal with children or for eating however we made the choice to stay. Food service was painfully slow with items no longer available. This would have been acceptable if ok when they did arrive. I ordered leak pie which came with a burnt pastry top and a very salty filling. Getting served inside you could tell the staff were under pressure and run off their feet. There was probably more demand than they expected but there must be some of way of flexing the number of dining only tables to not get so overwhelmed. I was also surprised that they didn't make more of the harbour views. The back smoking area was a six foot high fence which seemed a strange choice for its location. I don't think we would eat here again given a choice.

The food was reheated frozen food, not sure what I was expecting for the two drink and two lunches was £30. We stopped off here to try the Sunday roast, the lovely staff informed us there was seating out in the back, we sat there. Before I review the food I have to say the staff are lovely and super friendly. We ordered two roast beef dishes. I don’t know what I was expecting but after reading all the other reviews I thought the food would be edible. The beef was over cooked, potatoes were frozen (I can only assume) and the Yorkshire was burnt. We decided against consuming the vegetables and they looked severely under seasoned. There was also a loud family in the back taking up three tables for six of them, they were just off putting and loud.

Amazing food! Great service. Brilliant pub. The starter, Asian style pork belly with chilli and scallions was amazing. I drank the sauce like a broth, the best starter I've ever had. It was outstanding and was tempted to order it again for a main course. Prawn cocktail was tip top and it was nice to see someone make an effort and take some care with it as it totally paid off. Pie of the day was Steak, onion and mushroom in an ale gravy. I'm not a fan of a puff pastry lid but it did the job and the amount of pastry was brilliant. The pie was delicious and full to the brim. The beef Baguette was star of the mains. Best roast beef I've ever eaten and the baguette was perfect. Gravy is sensational. Thick and full of flavour. The chips were perfect. When I think of pub chips, that's it. Dark, crispy edges and soft and fluffy in the middle. Kids chicken bites with chips were a good size for a kids meal. Fresh and tasty. Onion rings were lush, crispy batter and a good portion. Best pub meal I've had for a long time. The staff were brilliant!
