Visited this afternoon about 2pm - we come here regularly and the food is usually great. Our food arrived much quicker than previous visits which was great after a long walk. I had the tomato soup as the soups are usually excellent. Unfortunately it was really watery and thin with no texture and little flavour - it tasted like it had been watered down. We noticed the tomato soup ran out soon after we got ours and a mushroom one was on the menu instead. I would have much preferred to be offered a different soup than to have one which had been watered down. We had the corn fritters as well which were really nice, but a bit of a small portion. Our bacon sandwich was really good and all our drinks were too.

A wonderful, traditional afternoon tea! Five of us had one of the best teas this afternoon, savouries, proper sandwiches, light-as-a-feather scones and fancies with endless tea and (for two of us at least) prosecco. Accidentally happened upon this tea room after a wrong turning on our walk, and we were so pleased we did! Cosy and warm inside with an inviting doorway surrounded by pumpkins, and Autumnal decorations inside. We got a mocha and an orange hot chocolate to go - both delightfully creamy and stayed hot to keep us warm on our walk. The lady serving us was kind enough to still include 2 pieces of terry’s choc orange with the hot choc even though we weren’t dining in. Some yummy looking cakes and tarts on offer too if we had stayed for food. Highly recommend!

Already upon arrival, the atmosphere enveloped us in an enticing embrace, with an elegantly understated décor radiating the very quintessence of class. The ambiance was profoundly convivial, with every table softly humming with the murmur of satisfied patrons. The waitress attended to our every whim with aplomb and an irreproachable finesse that elevated the experience to uncharted heights. The food served was a symphony of tantalising options, each more intriguing than the other. The pièce de résistance, however, was undoubtedly the performance of the chef. Never before have I encountered such an artist, one who possesses an almost preternatural ability to metamorphose every ingredient into a magnum opus of culinary delight. It was as though each plate was imbued with a touch of magic, a sense of wonderment that leaves one yearning for more. Every dish was a masterful concoction of flavours and textures, elegantly woven together into a gastronomic tapestry of extraordinary complexity and balance. Each ingredient was treated with the utmost respect, the chef elevating them beyond their humble origins to star in a feast worthy of Olympus itself. Such divine execution of this calibre is seldom seen. The chef's commitment to creating an unforgettable experience, as evident in every plate served, rendered our meal an indelible memory etched in the annals of exceptional dining experiences. His ability to transform every ingredient into a celestial delight was nothing short of enchanting. In conclusion, my lunch experience in this lovely Tea Room was a sheer pleasure, a true festival of the senses that transcends the mundanity of everyday life. Every member of the staff, and most especially the chef, are to be commended for their excellence. I look forward with the utmost eagerness to my next visit.

All the places with the best culinary traditions view food as an act of love. If you read a cookbook by a chef from Japan, Italy, or India, or you watch any of the countless Netflix food documentaries called something like Dirty Eats or Hot Stuff or Nasty Salt, one overarching theme you will notice is the presence of love, care, and generosity. That is not the case with the food served here, it smells horrid and tastes just like it smells. The service is also a sad excuse of hospitality.

Lovely scones, choice of four homemade jams, and Rodda's clotted cream. I asked for a little more (addicted to clotted cream) and without hesitation, the owner put more in the pot. The Old School Tea Room is a wonderful, friendly place to have tea. Serving soup and roll or cheese scone to home made cakes and the best scones in Devon. Your tea is served in a delightful eclectic mix of bone China, with teapots with tea cosies so your tea stays warm. We had a cream tea for 2 which involved 2 scones each (you choose from plain or fruit or one of each) a generous potion of clotted cream and a selection of home made jams. We had a generous pot of tea and we both had 4 cups of tea and there was still enough for more. The selection of home made cakes is a sight to be hold. It’s dog and muddy boot friendly and your dog gets their own little pot of treats to keep them occupied while you enjoy a rest after a walk and enjoy your afternoon tea. There is also a small collection of local goodies for sale. Definitely worth a visit.

After some walks in the area we were glad to find this little tearoom (and equally welcome toilet!). It's small and quaint with all teapots and cafetieres having Cosies on them, and beautifully mixed china teacups and saucers. Theres selection of homemade treats, with ones suitable for those with different dietary requirements helpfully labelled (there was a gorgeous Flapjack which was Gluten free, Dairy free and Vegan). They also had soya milk available. There's a cosy fire inside, and some outdoor seating too, thebaesting all all fabulously mismatched and quirky, and there is some artwork displayed on the walls available to buy.I believe they are happy for weary travellers to use the toilets evening not using the cafe, but welcome donations to a local charity. Worth stopping for the cake though! There is parking available in the village but as it is a small, narrow village it is recommended that visitors use the car park a short walk away.

Such an unusual and welcoming little place, from its shelves of teapots clad in hand-knitted tea cosies to the squashy sofa and general atmosphere of homeliness. The home-made cakes (so many different kinds: I had a slice of sticky rich fruit cake) are delicious, as was my tea served in a vintage bone china cup. You can also buy home-made jams and pickles - I'm enjoying the pear pickle that I brought home. The tea-room is very popular with the many weekend walkers who pass through Belstone: opening times currently chalked up on a blackboard outside are 14.00-17.00, on Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon. The village has a fascinating history, which I was intrigued to find recounted in The Book of Belstone by Chris and Marion Walpole which (among the jams, pickles baking and tea cosies!) is also available here.

We're always looking for traditional tea rooms as you don't seem to find them as much as you used to, not since the rise of coffee shops, which is a great shame. Anyway, we found The Old School Tearoom which was a wonderful find. Yummy cream tea, they also serve lovely looking cakes and I believe soup, all homemade. It is literally a tea and cake shop so if you're looking for something else to eat don't visit here. They also sell lovely homemade jams and marmalade and also gifts. They open Friday to Monday between 2pm and 5:30pm. They ask that you park in the car park on the edge of the village as there isn't really anywhere to park in the village without causing an obstruction. Belstone is a beautiful little village, gorgeous buildings and worth a little walk around. It almost seems locked in time and untouched by the modern hand which is lovely to see.

Mitten im kleinen Dorf Belstone, direkt neben der winzigen Kirche liegt diese gemütliche Teestube. "Very british!" im allerbesten Sinn. Ein einziger, nicht sehr großer, aber hoher Raum, schön plüschig möbliert, beheizt mit einem Woodburner. Tee, frisch aufgebrüht in der Kanne. Jede Kanne individuell bestrickt/behäkelt, Jede Tasse anders, aber alle wunderbar old fashioned blümchenverziert. Nur selbstgebackener Kuchen und Cookies vom feinsten. Unbedingt den Fruitcake probieren. Das Versprchen "muddy boots and wet dogs are welcome" ist ernst gemeint. Der Service ist überaus herzlich, man fühlt sich gleich zuhause. Als Andenken sollte man eine der selbsgemachten Marmeladen mitnehmen. Café und Toilette sind übrigens barrierefrei.

The problem is, I want to the tell everyone how lovely it is, but I don't want it to become so busy I can't get a seat!!I quite often pop in and treat myself to a tea and a slice (or two!) of Marion's home made cakes. If I have the dog, he comes in as well and is always given a treat or two as well.On a cold day the log burner is lit, and you are always guaranteed a warm welcome. It's usually full of walkers in muddy boots and locals out for a meet up.Your tea or coffee will be served in a selection of eclectic tea cups, all mix and match, it must have taken some time to collect lol the crockery. Every tea pot comes with its cosy on, and I've not seen two alike!A great place, that I think we'd like to keep secret just for us, but it's too cute to not share it.
