The Old School Tea Rooms in Doncaster

This will definitely become my favorite place for lunch or coffee. The soup was absolutely divine. The bread was amazing and the coffee was excellent. The atmosphere with the fire was also so lovely. My mew home from home. Thanks.

Was given a cream tea as a Christmas present from my Step daughter x Absolutely the best sandwiches ever had at a cream tea x and I go to a lot of cream teams Highly recommend this to anyone x lots of Gluton free alternatives Couldn't eat it all so boxed up the leftovers to take home xx

Attended for afternoon tea again as the previous owners (Dave & Dave) did the most amazing afternoon tea… and thought we’d return for this. However the new owners of this place, not sure much! The lady who greeted us, no smile, did not make us feel welcome! This put a downer on the visit straight away… sandwiches were hard. Continuously asking for stuff such as cutlery as no spoons for our cup of tea?! Scones were shocking, cream for the scones weren’t even clotted nor fresh.. but owners say it’s their own clotted cream.. absolutely not. Found hairs in our cakes. Owner claims staff kept coming over to us as seen on CCTV, however this was because we had to keep asking for things! This was very disappointing especially because this was for Mother’s Day. This was a very pricey afternoon tea and wasn’t even worth the money unfortunately. We will not be returning back here (unless it gets any new owners) and will not recommend.

It had just started snowing as we entered and by the time we left a thin layer had coated the stone building making it look even prettier. Fabulous lunch as a couple, we had the sharing platter at £15 with chips, meat, cheeses, salad and olives. It was great value all delicately served and presented. Rounded it off with a slice of chocolate cake and cream. Great lunchtime deal and very pleasant. We will be coming again!

The new owner of the old school house tea room generously donated an afternoon tea voucher to a raffle. I won it. Wow. What can I say. From the minute I phoned to book it the staff couldn't do enough for us. I asked for more savoury than sweet which is exactly what we got. We prefer brown bread. Not a problem. Staff very friendly always coming round chatting. We'll definitely be back. Thankyou.

Really disappointed. Been here many times and mostly been lovely. The last Sunday dinner we had however wasn't up to the previous standard, however felt it unfair to write a review based on one poor meal. However visited again last night for a meal for my birthday and the food was awful. My parents orded the burger from the specials, they were told it came with cheese and a sauce. ( I've seen them on Instagram they look delicious) what came was a burger in a bun, no sauce ( my mum asked for it on the side) no evidence of the huge tempting one from the photos. A piece of lettuce on my dad's, no cheese. Asked the waitress, who checked with the chef and was told it came with nothing. A pot of chips on the side ( looked like McCain's). I ordered the Wild Mushroom risotto, I order risotto a lot and this was a sludgy, gluey, grey mess which I ate 2 spoonfuls and left. To be fair the waitress offered to get me something else but then everyone else would have finished their meals while I waited for my replacement. My husband had the pie, which he said was ok but only ate it all because he was hungry. He said the pie crust was so hard he had to pick it off and eat it like a crisp. We didn't order dessert although we planned to with it being my birthday. The waitress did give a 10% discount and a voucher for the same for next time but I'll be honest I don't think we'll use it. Having had a few birthday treats out this week it was a disappointing end to the week. Home for a cuppa and digestive 🤣 I wish I had taken a photo of the burger to compare it to the social media ones.

Perfect for old folk due to join their ancestors, it's opposite the church and graveyard in the historic heart of the village. Ladies who lunch with wild abandon would like it very much. The ladies in charge are very pleasant and helpful. Their coffee and teacake is very nice. The cocktail menu is enticing.

Went here for the first time today 24/4/23. My friend took me out for breakfast for my birthday. Food was delicious, staff friendly. Spotlessly clean. Lovely atmosphere and dog friendly. Will definitely be back here and definitely recommend. Excellent

First visit for me for lunch with a very good friend. We enjoyed a delicious Chicken Caesar Salad and a Jacket Potato, Beans, Salad & Coleslaw. Two coffees to finish. All much enjoyed. Great place, friendly staff. We definitely recommend.😊

Service was slow, 35mins for 4 breakfast and there were only 2 people in front of us.

First visit here during the week when it was quiet the service was abit slow but our food was delicious the hot drinks could have been warmer though but this won’t stop us returning.

We called in for the first time since new ownership. The inside is very cozy and welcoming. The young girl serving was very friendly and attentive. We chose a ham hock and chutney on brown, an egg mayo and rocket on brown, both came with salad and coleslaw. We also ordered a portion of chips to share. The food came within a good time and was presented beautifully. The bread was fresh, the filling generous, the salad fresh with a nice dressing and the chips were lovely. We also had a flat white and a cappucino which were nice. The lady who owns the cafe came to ask if everything was OK too. We thought the prices were reasonable considering the decor and the quality of the food. £21.30p for the two of us. Excellent place. We will be back for sure!

My husband and I visited here with our dog and we were given a warm welcome from staff and our dog enjoyed the attention he received! It is very well decorated and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I ordered the lasagne which I am always worried about that it will be microwaved but this was so lovely and homemade. It was very reasonably priced and we will definitely be visiting again.

found the place to be good service first class although no one else in at the time meals starters good although the squid was over priced for the few pieces the mains pork belly very good pasta with wild mushrooms--pasta good however disappointed with the so called wild mushrooms they turned out to be button mushrooms tossed into the pasta for a couple of minutes--absolutely tasteless-- pasta ok though dessert extremely overheated in the microwave--spoilt the dessert-- custard cold overall top service 1 good main -1 poor main will give it another try

Popped in after seeing good reviews online. We enjoyed the food and it’s a nice little place. I had a slice of cake as couldn’t resist temptation. The cakes had been hand made by a proper baker, which was great. I had the biscoff cake and it was genuinely delicious! I’ll definitely be back, even if it’s just to try the other cakes they had on offer.

Afternoon tea was horrible with soggy sandwiches and pickled too much and scones was too dry I was so disappointed

We had a beautiful Sunday lunch at this hidden Jem. We were a party of 5. We all ordered different meals but all were excellent. I had roast beef it was beautiful great flavors and well presented. Great service from the team We will be back

The food was absolutely delicious! And the staff we're so friendly and attentive. I visited on a Thursday and it was 2 for 1 cocktails and acoustic night, the musician was really talented and funny, it was a great atmosphere. The cocktails we're freshly made and tasted amazing and a bargain with them being 2 for 1. I would definitely visit again!

TL:DR slow and poor service and won't be returning. Arrived, had to wait to be seated as two staff were chatting. Eventually got seated next to the only other occupied table in the restaurant and was brought menus. Waiting staff returned 10 minutes later to take the drinks order - we asked what quiche of the day was and was told by the waiting staff that they'd check. Returned 10 minutes later with the drinks - we asked again what the quiche was (she then remembered). We said we were ready to order food but she refused and said she had to take the order from the table next to us. She took their order but didn't return to us to take our order, instead serving some people who'd just walked in. A further 10 minutes later, she came back to take our order but we decided to eat elsewhere. The place looked nice though.

I visited here last week. I thought they had charged me incorrect. When checking for a medioum glass of wine and a small glass of wine with lemonage it was nearly £20. I was told that the two glasses of wine were the same price? and the lemonade was £3.00. I has just come back from London and paid less even there. Now I will pay whatever but really felt ripped off. I didn't expect to pay City prices in a village. The Afternoon Teas being served outside were left sat for ages near the bar with empty packets of pre-packed salad and bits just stuffed on the chairs at the side. I am still awaiting a call back that I have not received! Outrageous. I will not be returning.

You can't beat The School House for menu, decor, ambience or service. Yesterday we called in for lunch but its equally great for an evening meal, a treat for breakfast or even just a mid-morning coffee and a cake. Thursday evening tends to have live music (singer/instrumentalist) yet the ambience doesn't suffer. The menu caters for all and provides excellence at a decent price. Set in a genuine former stone built school house with the option to eat out under cover of you prefer, The School House surely has to rate as one of the top places to eat in the Doncaster area.

Went yesterday, only 2 waitress's on, bank holiday Thursday was busy but the waitress we had was very good, food generally good, penne a bit bland but nice ambience

First time visit but not that impressed unfortunately . It is a beautiful building with lovely decor. However on entering we were greeted by the loudest awful music.. we had gone to have a nice chat with friends but couldnt hear each other. I did ask staff if they would mind turning it down .. but if they did at all it was very minimal. We all ordered a scone and they were so tasteless. Such a shame as we’d been looking forward to trying here but not for us .

Been looking forward to this for weeks....Table booked for 13:30 but asked to get there for 13:15 as they had a big party coming. The four of us arrived at 13:15 and were seated, well actually we seated ourselves as he took a while to come back to us. We all ordered afternoon tea, which took a bit of ordering because the waitress wasn't entirely sure about the fillings and had to go away and find out. You would think it would be fairly quick at coming out seeing as it's all cold, wrong, we still hadn't had a pot of tea on the table 45 minutes later 🤨 when the waiter brought the cups they were dirty with tea ring stains so had to be sent back, and the tea was tepid so had to ask for an actual hot pot of tea grrr. When the sandwiches and cake arrived they looked amazing 😍 shame the bread was turning stale, obviously left out, done enough complaining by this time so got stuck in regardless. Fillings were lovely and the cake was good too, massive slice! Afterwards we fancied cocktails but the coffee machine wasn't working so no martini espresso, at that point we called it a day and asked for the bill which obviously took another 20 minutes!! Felt a bit sorry for the lass who took payment and asked "was everything ok" 😂😂😂 NO!

went today with my daughter 2nd visit and still not much better , the guy came to take our order and i orded mine my daughter ordered her food and then he just said "Drink " not what would you like to drink , rather rude really , last visit he quickly shut the conversation down with some pensioners when thay asked about the evening meals that used to be served , wont be back again

Visited with my daughter for afternoon tea. The room we were in was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back and would recommend The School House to everyone.

Went today at 2pm for lunch with my son. He had spicy penne pasta. It was a very small portion and definitely worth the money. It was like something made from a jar. I had fish, chips and garden peas. The peas were hard and tasted undercooked. Although the staff were very pleasant I found the overall experience disappointing.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant/ coffee bar since its opening. But of the last 4 months the food is going down hill. It’s a real shame despite giving feedback to the management it’s continues to go down hill. We have now cancelled our next booking for Mother’s Day. The price increase is not justified on the quality we were served today. You need to look at your competition like Scawthorpe social club. Top quality meat and great selection of veg for £9.99 ! This is honest feedback

We have been here for Sunday lunch many time and over the few visits we have noticed that the quality of food has declined. After our last coffee visit we gave some feedback of our experience we were told that they had a new head chef so things should improve so today we thought we try it again needless to say it will be our last visit for lunch meat pork very poor quality virtually all fat, also 1.50 for one extra Yorkshire pudding is discarceful.

Me and my friends go every Friday for coffee and a bite to eat every thing we order is delicious warm toast ,bacon sandwich done exactly how we wanted staff have become friends and every customer is treated so professionally

Very nice food and adequate portion . Wifes did come slightly cold so they rewarded it ..think this was due to to thick plates taking away the heat from the meal It was busy but for on young girl to be running ,serving etc ...probably needs one more staff to help it flow better ... But credit to the young girl she did a fantastic job ... very kind and polite too ...

Called in for our first visit for a Cappuccino which was superb, stayed and had a light lunch, hock and chutney and pan fried mushrooms with Katsu on toasted sourdough excellent. Will visit again asap.

Been previously in less fortunate circumstances after Uncles passing but came back for family Christmas lunch. Yet again failed to disappoint. Great food ( I had small plates of buttermilk chicken ) lovely fries and Greek salad. Staff very Trent very bud helpful too as...

Lovely tea rooms set in a very old village school, probably Victorian, offering breakfast as well. Beautifully cooked poached eggs. Lovely setting in the village opposite the old church. Highly recommended.

What a great place to spend the afternoon/early evening. Plenty of outside seating with patio heaters, good food and cocktails. What more can you ask for? Oh yes lovely attentive staff to boot. I shall definitely be returning 10/10
