The Pickled Duck Cafe in Derry

Tell cook not to put tea towel over shoulder after using it to wipe plate with food to serve. Also not to tuck rear of aprin rubbing against jeans. This is a hygiene need to focus on seriously.

We arrived and sat outside, we waited to be served and then I went in to order, the girl behind the counter told me that she’ll be out to our order and to go back and sit down. We wait for about 20minutes and no one came near us, despite staff clearly being able to see us. We gave up after half an hour and left. Very frustrating

Great food and good service from this cozy little eating place. Menu selections were good and the atmosphere was, well, cozy!

Fantastic place for lunch, right in Derry city centre. I had Eggs Benedict, nicely done, friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. Well worth visiting.

My favourite café in Derry, or should I say Legenderry. It's super central too. Just across the road from the guild hall and the city Square.

Very long service. We waited for the order for more than 40 minutes. No one warned about the wait. In the burger, instead of a cutlet, I saw stewed minced meat, because it cannot be called a cutlet. Friendly staff, clean

I had a full Irish breakfast and the boss had sweet pancakes and it was spot on. Staff welcoming and attentive. The cafe was clean, spacious and comfortable. Located across from the Guild Hall. Highly recommended.

Ate here on a busy Saturday lunchtime. The staff seemed flustered. They were telling people that there would be a 30 minute wait for food because of a problem in the kitchen. The pickled duck, after which it is named was not available to order. My Columbian eggs were overcooked scrambled egg on a very greasy piece of bread and the chorizo pieces still had the paper coating attached. We did receive a discount because of this. In a great spot besides the Guildhall but disappointing overall.

If you're hungry for attitude, this is the place to go. Food is average and the slow service is filled with less than friendly vibes.

Me and my dad have eaten here quite a few times recently for lunch. First of all it's a lovely place inside, we've walked past it so many times because it's a little easy to miss from the outside. Staff are really friendly and polite and they don't keep you waiting long. As for the food......phenomenal. My dad has the beef taco sandwich every time. "Best sandwich I've ever had" according to him, and believe me that's high praise from him. I've ordered a few things now to go over some of the lunch menu. Everything was incredibly tasty and well portioned. Above all for me though is the breakfast brioche bap. Everything perfectly cooked and just tastes fresh. I don't normally like black pudding, but I will scoff this one with no hesitation. The bap is fresh as I said and is perfect to house the sausage, egg etc. The homemade "ding" sauce is a highlight, a little sweetness to add to the savoury. A-star. It can be crowded at times, so you may not get seated right away. This is partially due to some renovation work going on in their coffee garden out back, but we have never had to wait 10 minutes to get seated and believe me, the wait is worth it.

Great little cafe in the Guildhall Square. Great staff. If there is such a thing I had the best ham sandwich ever (called the Jam Ham)

This applies to both the one on Greenhaw as well as the one by the Guildhall. Excellent food! I cannot speak highly enough about how creative save delicious is their menu. And the vegetarian "blood" sausage is surprisingly good. Avocado toast. Yes. Full Irish breaky. Yes. All of it!

My partner saw this cafe whilst we were looking at the Guildhall. So glad we went in. The menu was amazing with daily specials including soup. We selected the chicken burger. Close to the best I have eaten. It was a 4 serviette meal with the onion jam and chipotle complementing the fried chicken breast and brioche bun. Reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Our frst stop in Derry, easy street parking during the week. The staff was kind and helpful. The food and coffee was great. Eggs Benedict was superb. Also this is close to the visitors center and many other attractions that Derry has.

Stopped in here for a bit of lunch. The salad and club sandwich weren't just a lunch, they were a substantial meal in their own right. The girls working there were so friendly. The cappuccinos were one of the best ones served to us during our visit to Derry. Top notch cafe.

Called in for breakfast while visiting , absolutely loved the menu wished we were staying longer to come back to try something else , beautiful wee spot , nice decor and homemade 'legenderry ding ' sauce (brown) check it out , we will definitely be back .

Six of us when in for breakfast/brunch and all left full and satisfied. Brilliant service, great menu and incredible food sums the place up. Easy to see why it was so busy. There is a wide range of food choices from very sweet to savoury. The full breakfast was perfect, the poached eggs spot on and my favourite was the cumin scrambled eggs with chorizo, incredible. Would definitely recommend the Pickled Duck.

Omg amazing!!! Fantastic chia latte with milk alternatives and one is the best sausage roll I have had (I had the full Irish). The staff where some of the loveliest people and we had a fabulous time talking.

Very fresh food and excellent service . I got a veg sandwich and a soup . Everything tasted delicious . They have also a stable wi-fi in case you need to work .

This café has a good location by the Guildhall between the river and the city walls. The staff were pleasant, but the coffee was very poor quality and very expensive at £7 for two flat whites.

Visited the Shipquay plac cafe after getting off the air coach from a 7am flight into belfast so we were starving. Great staff great location and delicious food - we had a full fry each and it was perfect!

We'd enjoyed a lovely breakfast in out hotel and were going out for dinner later, bu min-afternoon needed a snack. Havin recently seen coverage of homemade brown sauce on television, we decided to try the Pickled Duck. GOOD CHOICE! The coffee was really good, but the Sausage Roll that I offered was a revelation. Black Pudding and Wholegrain Mustard Sausage Rolls were amazing and I'll be making some for myself!

When we arrived in Derry and got booked into the hotel we went for a walk and liked the look for the Pickled Duck cafe for a bite of lunch. We were not disappointed. The staff were exceptionally friendly. Food presentation was second to none and very tasty. Would recommend.

Place packs out quite quickly so you may be seated outdoors weather dependent. Food is nice here as are the staff. Good local cafe.

I didn't fancy a fry and they had a lovely muesli and Greek yogurt and fruit...😋 lovely

Lovely café looking out on the Guildhall Square. The french toast and pancakes were very good with lots of maple syrup and nutella. However it was the friendly warm service that made the visit so pleasant. Perfect spot for a family breakfast.

Superb food and even better service. I ate here recently while in Derry for work. The first time I went in for a sandwich and unbeknownst to me a large party had put an order in before me which delayed my sandwich order significantly. I did query the delay and once I knew the issue it was no problem. My food came shortly after and I was very pleased. I only mention the above as 2 days later I went in again and before even taking my seat one of the staff recognised me and quickly nabbed my attention to ask If I was in a hurry and if I wanted to order as again a group was about to order.. I was so impressed with this amazing level of service. This lady was already busy making up orders for other people and she still recognised me and ensured I had my order in and that I was looked after without delay. Again the food was great..in both cases I requested gluten free bread and it was good quality so I think I will be returning when I am once again in town.

We ordered2 sausage rolls and one sandwich. We were charged for 2 sandwiches and one sausage roll— which meant we were overcharged by Euro 3.45! That’s unacceptable as we didn’t discover the error until we were wiles away. And, something in the sausage roll was...

The staff are really nice people. The food looks really good too. However, when I searched Vegan restaurants in Derry, The Pickled Duck came up. My bad for not researching further. Someone had written a review saying "great vegan breakfast." This is not a vegan cafe, and they do not serve vegan food, bar a couple of things on the menu. That's not the fault of the staff, and they really did their best to accommodate. Just a head's up to vegans, there is not a great choice here.

Shocking customer service from the small guy with the beard working there pure ignorant we would eat here quite regularly and always telling everyone how nice the food is my family from USA is coming on Monday 28th and we had planned to eat here sadly we'll never be back! Hopefully the management speaks to this fella and teaches him how to speak to his customers after all we pay his wages!

My family and I love the quality of the food here - especially their loaded fries. Gluten free is well catered for. The staff are always pleasant and helpful.

Food is great. Coffee and tea, sweet bits also very good. The pickled duck is quite busy, but the staff are working flat out and very quickly as a team to deliver high quality food and drink. Polite and friendly. Recomend highly.

Visited twice over the last 4 days, the food is excellent here. We've been able to get a table for 4 or 5 without waiting on both occasions. Kids really enjoyed their meals, and the Caesar salad is awesome!! Good coffee too.

The food was good, a little disappointed on the service, but not a bad experience overall.

First time in this week and I quite enjoyed it. The menu isn't big but it's good. I got rhe kimchi duck fried rice and the hubby had the Mexican burger. Wouldn't mind going back and trying some more things.

The best breakfast In Derry, super friendly staff, we'll be back when we're up again. Prices are very reasonable, lot of seating indoors and outdoors, can get a lots of traybakes to take with you if you need. It is very child friendly and it's all ground floor so issues there.

Not a massive menu but the food and setting are great. Great service, very fast and friendly. All you need really in these days to unwind.

Nice cafe beside Guildhall square. It has indoor and outdoor seating. Good breakfast offer, which includes toast and coffee/tea for £7.95. Extensive menu for different times of the day. They do a lovely pastrami toasted sandwich that's sometimes on the specials board.

Excellent. Portions much bigger than expected. Very tasty and great value for money. Our 3 little dog's we made welcome on the rear terrace which is a must for us and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Be back next time we are in Derry. 😃

Was 4.30 they were closing at 5 I felt a bit rushed. My meal was just OK.
