Most of the reviews on this site talk about the old fashioned service they received at the Stow Lodge Hotel and they're absolutely right! The bar restaurant is very popular and we were so fortunate to find a table that hadn't been reserved. The menu was first rate - steak and ale pie, duck, lamb, salmon - a great selection, beautifully prepared and served with a smile. It's not often that table service comes with bar meals but it is certainly a speciality of the house here. It meant so much to them that we expressed our genuine pleasure over the quality of the fayre on offer. We were also invited to relax and take coffee in the next door lounge. Great value for money and never at any time did we feel rushed on what was a particularly busy day .

We spent a great weekend here. The hotel is so different from impersonal chain hotels. It’s great to know that places like this still exist. The furnishings are a little dated, but in a nice way and it is very clean. Good breakfast with lots of options - between two people we had orange juice, cranberry juice, prunes, freshly segmented grapefruit half, poached eggs, full English fry up, toast, marmalade, tea, coffee. The evening dinner menu changes daily. Main courses are presented with nice lidded tureens of vegetables. The staff are friendly and they go out of their way to ensure guests are happy.

I’d you think the endless coffee shops in Stow are over priced then visit this place. You can be ripped off equally as well by someone without a topknot and ankle-swingers, but mimicking Basil Fawlty’s style instead. 7.50 for an orange juice and lemonade. Yes that is not a typo! Also had a ploughmans. All the lovely fresh produce available in the Cotswolds and they clearly just shop at the local supermarket and cobble together some Branstons pickle and some cheap old cheese. Tourist trap from the 1970s. Except worse.

This is a small charming family run business that takes care of you😀 I was by myself, disabled and stopped during international connections at Heathrow airport. Old fashioned, but appropriate , renovated bathrooms, excellent service. I hosted a dinner for my family from Dorset and no-one was disappointed! Good cooked food, served in british style. Lottie, Debbie, barmen Jack and Antony and all the staff made us feel at home. Step out into Stow square, to shop or sit in the garden to daydream! Many Cotswold villages close by in a cab or bus service in the square. An Hour and a half to Heathrow airport. Found myself a winner🙏

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here one night during our Cotswolds walking tour. Very traditional style restaurant with excellent service and we both thought our meals were quite good. I had fish and chips, my husband had trout and veg and a pear, walnut and blue cheese salad that he said was excellent. Very central and close to our hotel so we could easily walk to and from the Stow Lodge.

We have just got back from a weekend here and enjoyed our stay. Our room was in the coach House, which was comfortable, though the bathroom was a little dated and my pet hate is carpets in toilet areas! It was a very warm weekend and we had to have the windows opened (there was a fan in the room but it pivoted when it was on, so we didn't have it on in the night) and the traffic noise was loud, as were the church bells next door but I completely understand that the hotel can't do much about that. I did struggle to sleep though....and I do wear ear plugs. We had a good breakfast each day, overlooking the famous door with the yew trees either side, at the back of St Edwards Church, and there is a lovely garden to sit in when the weather is nice. The staff were all so nice. All so cheery and upbeat. We would like to come back if we come this way again.

I can not speak for the hotel, or the pub experience - but I can say that the restaurant food was some of the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. The sides of the meal are served in a weird TV-dinner like tray. And clearly the sides and vegetables are reheated. The meat I got was like eating in a cafeteria. Instant gravy and all. I can not believe that people eat here for these prices! I suppose the only good thing to take away from this dinner, is that my husband and I laughed the entire time because of how weirdly outdated and terrible the food was. We will never forget the experience, that’s for sure!

This hotel and its staff are absolutely lovely. From the time we arrived to the time we left staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. Our room was spotlessly clean, the bed was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant where again the staff were really friendly and efficient and the food was perfect. There were three vegetarian options which was more than most other places in the town and really lovely as a vegetarian ( myself) to be offered something other than risotto or vegetable burgers. Breakfast was included and again this was absolutely lovely and so much choice. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back.

I've just had two perfect nights at the Stow Lodge Hotel, Stow-on-the-wold, Gloucestershire. Situated in the centre of the town, adjacent to the church, this once large Rectory is a perfect location to base yourself for a break in the Cotswolds. It's been run by the same family for 60 years and the current incarnates are doing their ancestors proud. Every whim is catered for speedily, efficiently and with a smile. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. The rooms are airy and spotlessly clean. A thing that's reflected in the rest of the hotel. The feel of the place is olde worlde. There's a welcoming residents lounge with a stunning inglenook fire. The food is sublime. The breakfasts to are to die for and the evening meal menu is extensive but not overwhelming. We had our evening meals both nights we were there and they were perfection. Unfortunately for the family who run the place, they'll definitely see me again.

We tried to have a sit down lunch at two cafes as we were on a coach tour and needed a pit stop. Unfortunately, several were shut on Tuesday and Wednesday. So we stopped in at the Stag Hotel’s pub. The waitress was very efficient and ensured we were in and out in an hour. The food was very good and they have decent veg. Options. They have a HUGE selection of wines and spirits. The decor is upmarket yet arty. A very good address.

We haven't visited Stow lodge in 12 years and decided to take my 12 year old daughter there for dinner in the bar. We couldn't have had a better meal or better service. The bartender whose name I have forgotten but lives in Bourton couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I asked if he knew how to make what we call here in the States a Shirley Temple, for my daughter. He had not heard of it but said he would google it and see if he could make her one. Wow what service. He was able to make it and my daughter loved it. We even went back the next night and she had it again. My husband had the BBQ chicken, I had the fish and chips and my daughter had lasagna the 1st night and BBQ chicken the 2nd night. All were excellent. The cook even gave extra chips as he thought he may have overcooked my daughters 1st batch. She was thrilled extra chips! We couldn't have asked for a better experience and the bartender was a delight to talk with. Thank you for such a wonderful meal. Hopefully it won't be another 12 years before we return for another visit from the States.

Cloth napkins, tablecloths, etc. We enjoyed the Asparagus starter, the Grilled Fillet of Beef with Stilton sauce, braised Lamb rump and Chicken in peppercorn sauce. All were terrific. All came with additional veggies and potatoes as side dishes (2 kinds of each) which really added up to too much food, but it was good 'n tasty. We had to skip dessert unfortunately. The staff was very hard working, always hustling around. But very friendly and helpful. The ambiance in the place was great. We had one hour to get a meal in Stow on the Wold, and we made it in 55 minutes. Lamb, meat pie, fish and chips, ham, pork were all tried by our family. The mushroom soup got rave reviews, and everyone was happy with lunch.

We took a friend after church. The Sunday Roast was excellent. We each had something different. Pork Chicken and Beef. We should have but did not have reservations. They fit us in. Service was a little slow, but seeing the crowd and that we did not have reservations, we think they did well.

This grand old hotel is also a posh restaurant. Rooms are pricey, but the food ranges from average cost for pubs in Stow up to very expensive for special fare. Wonderful setting. The church chimes now cease to ring after 10 PM

After reviewing both menus we decided to eat in the bar. The place was almost empty and the bartender was quite friendly and chatted with us. We chose a table by the window and perused the menu. The ordering is done at the bar for all food and drink, but he told us in advance so we knew the process. He was helpful in describing the dishes and answering questions. There were lots of choices for entrees and desserts. The menu was quite extensive and there was also a board with lots of daily specials. I would definitely recommend eating at the bar.

Meeting place with friends. On a very wet miserable "summer" day we were warmly welcomed and all enjoyed well cooked and presented meal both main & dessert - all reasonably priced. Just a comment that not having a huge appetite I had to leave food (I don't like doing that) perhaps portions could be reduced slightly.

Booked a table for 2, on arrival showed to our table, given the menu then ordered our meal, Tony had soup, French Onion, then Gammon, 2 fried eggs, peas and Chips, then lemon sorbet. An excellent meal, the best sorbet ever. I had Deep Fried Haddock, chips and peas, tarter sauce and slice of lemon which came in a silver juice extractor. Then I had Banana Butterscotch Sundae. Excellent, we both enjoyed our meals very much. The service was excellent too, the young man who looked after us was a true gentleman, kind and helpful.

We went here 2 nights on the run. One in the restaurant and one having bar meal. Both were great and very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended and a lovely environment, especially the bar.

When I telephone booked our evening table I was informed the restaurant did not open until 7pm. We arrived about 10 mins early only to be sharply reminded that we we're early. We we're offered nowhere to sit but instructed to stand and wait in a corridor outside the restaurant until it opened. Whilst this was only a matter of minutes we felt this was very unwelcoming.Having said that, the restaurant was nicely set out in a large pleasant room. Staff were very attentive and service was prompt. Good menu choices and all the food we were served was of a high standard and sensibly priced. Presentation was good but in a retro style, i.e. veg served in metal tureen.

Looking for a late (for Britain) cup of tea and Stow Lodge didn't hesitate to serve us in their cosy comfortable lounge. The fire was going too. A delight.

Had a lovely Roast Beef lunch, Beef was delicious service was great, from Anthony. My only small problem was that there was only one small roast potato, I think it would be better to have no mash which again was a very small portion and go with more roast potatoes which every one enjoys.Would recommend this hotel.

I apologise for writing another review for this wonderful Hotel which we have visited for our wedding anniversary meal for the last 16 years. Once again, from the moment we walked into the restaurant we were made to feel very special. My chair was moved out for me to sit down and the linen napkin placed on lap. A jug of iced water, which was poured for us, arrived with the menus and we were given just the right amount of time to make our choices. The menu is very tradional with a good variety and there is a very extensive wine list. I opted for their home made chicken pate to start, roast beef,Yorkshire pudding and accompanying vegetables for main, raspberry pavlova for dessert and as usual I was not disappointed. For the quality of food, the silver service received and the Hotel ambience you certainly get value for money and it is without a doubt my favourite place to eat. We will definitely be returning next year.

We have been to the Cotswolds 3 times in 15 years. The first time about 15 years ago we happened upon Stow Lodge Hotel Restaurant and had a lovely 3-course meal there. Ten years ago I received a gift of a hotel stay (not at Stow Lodge) for my 40th Birthday and we dined there again. Once again, a fantastic 3-course meal and service.Last week we stayed in Blockley and on a day out to Stow, were looking for an evening meal and thought...shall we chance it again? We booked a meal for 7.30pm. The hotel is comfortably charming, if you are looking for modernism, you will be disappointed. However it was the same as before, cosy, warm and inviting. Upon arrival we were greeted by our names. The 3-course table d'hôte menu was varied and the food absolutely wonderful. The staff were charming and attentive just like they have been in the past.I am absolutely stunned that their service, food and ambiance have not waned over the years. They are a first class outfit and you will be hard pressed to find such lovely staff, food and service anywhere else.I wish I could give them 10 stars!
