Vim & Vigour in West Lothian

Me and my friends ate at vim and vigour when it was in the previous building. The atmosphere was relaxed and felt different for bathgate. The food was brilliant ,When we visited the new premises It didn’t seem as cosy and it was bright for a night dining. Almost like a canteen feel. Unfortunately the food was not as good. The prawns were over cooked and tasteless. The cheeses on the board tasted like they had come straight from the fridge and poor tasting. The grapes on the board were soggy and had seen their last day. The celery was embarrassing, so thin and not peeled and very stringy. We ordered a bottle of white wine and when we order another they didn’t have a cold one. There was one other table of diners in at this time so it wasn’t very busy and it should really be assumed that we would order another bottle as were three. To be fair we paid half price for the wine but it’s lack of attention to detail. I don’t think it is responsibly priced for what you get and considering we are in Bathgate. I would go back (unlike my friends) to see if it was maybe just a one off.

Having received a voucher at Christmas, we finally got round to taking advantage of it, now, as a trencherman of long standing, when I say this was a superb dining experience, you can take that as gospel, staff pleasant and attentive, setting charmingly modern, and the food OMG, normally I would photograph each dish for posterity, but I got carried away, it was that good, that I almost neglected to do that, maybe next time, for there will definitely be a next time.

Visited with my family for my birthday meal and an experience to definitely write home about. We shared every dish of the sharing plates and the quality of each dish was amazing. House wines and cocktails faultless too. A great addition to Bathgate to give us somewhere good to wine and dine.

Excellent as always. It’s been a few months since we last visited but standards of food and service have not dropped in any way. The menu provides something for everyone.

Went for lunch and had the tapas which were as good as any I've ever had. But the service was also fantastic. The Young woman serving us was so attentive and couldn't do enough for us, very refreshing to see. Will definately be back

This was my first visit to Vim & Vigour and I can truly say I was not disappointed. The food and wine were exceptional and the service was absolutely fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. Their attention to detail is first class from the decor all the way through to the food & service. A modern take on traditional classics as well as the scrumptious tapas was a real treat. A huge thanks to Chris and his team in the kitchen for accommodating special dietary requirements. I would highly recommend a visit, you will definitely not be disappointed. Looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Plate licking good - tonight was their first tasting menu. I have been to many tasting menus. Six by nico. Tom Kitchin. Castle Terrace. To name a few. This was as good as if not better ! Each course and paired wine. Phenomenal! Chris the chef is amazing. Humble and so talented. Steph and Lewis the ultimate hosts. I have been coming here with no ties to these guys since they opened and have had brunch , tapas and wine tasting. Was hesitant re the move but the new place is as good as the old. Ignore any bad reviews. Tonight I brought my friend for her birthday and she kicked the plate.

One of the best places for a meal in Scotland. We’ve visited the restaurant in the old premises and wanted to visit again in the new larger location, and we’re so glad we did. The place looks amazing, very modern, beautiful lighting and ambiance. Vibes from the moment you enter the door. Staff are excellent and always on hand should you need anything. Now let’s get to the food…..wow! We knew it was going to be good having visited the old restaurant but this went above and beyond our expectations! I’m not a big seafood eater, in fact I never eat it, but I was feeling adventurous and wanted to try the lobster and if I was going to try lobster anywhere, it was going to be with Vim and Vigor! It did not disappoint!! Stunning. This really is a hidden gem, you have to go!

Please don’t go,aggressive chef,or maybe he can’t take his eyes of you???? 😳 prawn pil pil cold,fish and chips, batter overcooked,chips burnt,no salt or pepper,waited nearly 10 mins for that basic restaurant facility,no 1 in West Lothian apparently?hey, maybe I’ve just got a bee in my bonnet,I’m not spending money on substandard things tho ,its just getting to precious.

Had been to the original vim a few times and wasnt how sure it was going to be in the new restaurant/bar. Excellent from start to finish. It still has the intimate feel to it so immediately settles you in to the new surroundings which have been finished to a very high standard. Food spot on as always. Special mention to Lauren who recommended drinks and had a chat as if we were old friends. Looking forward to my visit with family next month.

Our second vist and this time we tried the food. Its delicious, I'm sure the chef puts a lot of thought and attention into what leaves the kitchen. The restaurant had already established itself in Bathgate and this was a move to new premises, which allows them to be bigger and bolder. The staff are attentive and able to meet customers requests. Bathgate has been crying out for a restaurant that would be at home in Edinburgh City centre and this is it. So save your train fare and visit Vim and Vigour.

First visit to the new premises and it did NOT disappoint! From a wonderfully warm welcome to fantastic food, fab choice of drinks and incredible service! The new premises are gorgeous! Warm and inviting but still sharp and stylish, with booths allowing a more intimate experience. Staff were,as always, friendly, welcoming and engaging. Ordered small plates and food came out incredibly quickly but was still of the same high standard we’ve come to know of vim and vigour. Wonderful experience we will definitely be back asap!

I never write reviews but I had to about our meal here last night. We came for a friend’s birthday dinner, it was the first time I’d been. It was absolutely perfect…the food, the wine, the wine glasses, the staff, the ambience, everything was absolutely perfect! My mouth was so happy last night with all the flavours from the food and the wine. The tapas was so delicious there wasn’t anything I didn’t like. Highly recommend the Rioja and the Prosecco! Can’t wait to go back! New fav place 💜

This was our 2nd visit,the first being in the original much smaller restaurant. The new place is much bigger and booking a table is much easier than before. The food is fresh ,delicious and beautifully presented and service is exceptional. The drinks are served and presented with as much love as the food. Just go, and you'll to return.
