Booked a table for a Friday night as we knew it was a small place. There was only two other couples in there, so plenty of room. Just a shame there was no atmosphere. We ordered drinks pretty quickly and they came within five mins. A little steep in price though. A 500ml bottle of mythos was £7. We decided to order a mixed grill sharing platter as shown in the photo. We also ordered a Greek salad to go on the side, but this came out as a starter. No real problem, we just saved some for the main. We didn't have to wait too long for the main to come and it looked great. Looks can be deceiving though! Under the meat was a huge pile of what seemed to be southern fried wedges. Didn't seem very Greek inspired to me but nevertheless we got on with it. Another unusual thing was amongst the meat was a burger. All a bit odd really. Unfortunately it didn't really hit the spot. I thought the meat was okay, but not great. The missus thought it tasted a bit bland. A shame, but the best thing about the main for us, was the dips and cheese on the side. The food wasn't terrible, it just wasn't good enough to make me want to visit again or recommend it to anyone either. Again, a shame as we were looking forward to it. As other reviews state, it is a cash only restaurant. There is a cashpoint just outside the door though. A little niggle I didn't like, was a 10% service charge is added to the bill. It wasn't mentioned when the bill was handed over and only noticed it last minute. Other restaurants I've been to usually make you aware of this and state it's optional. Overall I wouldn't visit again, I didn't find it to be an authentic Greek experience. The food was only, okay but perhaps not value for money. If your looking for somewhere for a special meal or quality food, I'd give this a miss.

You must go here! We booked last minute for our daughters birthday and just had the absolute BEST time with absolutely gorgeous food. The atmosphere is intimate and cosy and the hosts are wonderful. Proper authentic Greek food cooked with passion. We loved it.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had! The food was so delicious! Cute little place. We will definitely be returning. The Feta parcels with honey are to die for!

Service excellent. Apparently cash only for some reason. Food was average and drinks on the expensive side. We've had far better value and quality Mediterranean food in York nearby. This will be our only visit to Wine stories.

Although service was friendly, it was painfully slow and there was only one other table in the restaurant. Food took longer than expected to arrive and it wasn't worth the wait in the cold restaurant either. We shared the Souvlaki which mainly consisted of very greasy potato wedges. Couldn't recommend, there are Far better places in York to eat.

Lovely little place with a nice atmosphere and lovely staff. The lady couldn't do enough for us and recommended some lovely desserts. We had the meat sharing platter. You are told when ordering you need to wait between 20-30 mins as ita all cooked fresh. It was worth the wait. We couldn't finish it between the both of us. Really tasty and well cooked.

Been here several times and this time was, like all others, amazing. Fantastic traditional Greek food. Great service, lovely atmosphere. Have never had a poor dish here, our teens love it also as portion sizes are generous also.

I brought my friends who visited York from another country. The decoration was nice, but it was pretty cold inside. The foods came out very slow, and they were not even hot but burnt. The most part of the shared dishes is chips. I felt really sorry to my friends. This restaurant ruined our night. Oh, and they don't take card 🤷‍♀️

It took over forty minutes for our drinks to arrive, they were mainly cocktails, but the atmosphere is good and it's a nice place. The sharing platter was huge but was quite tasty. It looks like an enormous amount but a lot of that is fries; too many really. The vine leaf starter was very nice.

My sister in law booked this for my nephew’s birthday. There were eleven of us altogether and we paid a deposit of £110 to secure the table. We arrived slightly early for our 5pm booking and were disappointed by the way the tables were set out. Instead of one long table we were on two tables so I had my back to half of my family the whole meal. Service was incredibly slow. Some drinks took over half an hour to arrive and the food didn’t arrive until we had been there nearly a min hour and a half. Those who had the mixed grill were excited by the amount of food but it was quantity over quality. I had beef rib and the mash was stone cold. Those who had lamb shank complained that it was chewy, bland and lacking a sauce/gravy. Many of us were still hungry as other than the mixed grill portions were small. We asked for dessert menu but by the time it came it was 6.50 and the people who had booked our table had arrived and were asking if we would be leaving soon. We went elsewhere for our dessert…

Possibly the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Being part of a group I felt that I couldn’t complain when asked if everything was okay so I didn’t respond. Our party was split into two tables which felt completely ridiculous and our table was facing the front door, felt crammed in and had to brace the cold wind when guests arrived. The service took forever and my lamb shank was dry, fatty and chewy, with no sauce and I left most of it. My wife’s meal was stone cold and looked like a starter. All the wines on the menu are dry. It’s also cash only, and it’s not cheap neither. Our table was booked for between 5 and 7pm but our food didn't arrive until 6.25 and by the time they asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, the next guests who were booked in for our table turned up, so we had to vacate quickly anyway, but I was glad to get out of there by this point. I feel bad leaving negative reviews when things are tough out there, but there was absolutely nothing redeeming about this place, the food or the atmosphere, so how it’s got such great reviews I’ve no idea.

The place looks beautiful, cosy with very narrow tables but we waited over an hour for our starters. The drinks took a long time to arrive and the waiting time between courses was too long. We were only in York for one night and this was not a great experience for our only evening meal. We were starving after spending all afternoon exploring. When we got the food it was excellent, no complaints there but the waiting times made us feel passed it. We didn’t enjoy it as much as we should. There was also no recognition / apology that the food took so long and no offer of any pitta bread or olives to keep us going. We won’t be going back

This was recommended to me by a friend. Unfortunately I didn’t share her view. Waitress was serving and ordering with a 10 week old baby over her shoulder; and feeding baby inbetween other duties. Food was average, potato wedges were definitely warmed up! Our food was served in 15 mins but others were asking about theirs after 1 hour. I wouldn’t re book personally.

After reading reviews on TripAdvisor and wanting Greek food we opted to dine here for my Birthday. We were not disappointed. Worth booking a table as it's a cosy fit and you wouldn't want to miss out! We ordered the sharing platter and a Greek salad. The portions are huge, well priced and deliciously cooked. The wedges are super Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The meat is seasoned well and cooked to perfection. We only saw 1 waiter who was friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Would put this as no1 to return to when we are next in the area. Highly recommend dining here

Booked at 7, was told when we got there it was 715 (it wasn’t, had confirmation) eventually got drinks, but food didn’t come out for about an hour. Food was average. Bulked up lack of / small meal portion mix grill platter with fries. Not attentive at all - their loss as if they were they’d sell more. Won’t be going back tbh.

Excellent food, well priced. Would really recommend, all of these bad reviews don’t do the place justice.

A wonderful Mediterranean style mixed grill at the wine stories! Lots of authentic wine choices at reasonable prices. Friendly and helpful staff made the overall atmosphere superb.

Came for an early dinner on Sunday night. We were one of a few couples inside but the restaurant was beautifully decorated and the staff were attentive. Generous portions and the Greek salad and souvlaki were delicious. Menu stated vegetarian and gluten free options clearly

Excellent authentic Greek food & drink, good vegetarian options as well, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The menu was varied and had a good selection of food. We stayed in York two nights and ate here on both nights.

Small but nice Greek place in town. A lot of he dishes have feta worked into them which can end up being too rich. The portion sizes are odd, the platters have huge amounts of McCain wedges with them that no one ever finishes. The suvlaki was ok, nothing to write home about. Wine was very nice, a little expensive to pay £29 for a 6€ bottle of Greek wine.

We thank Mr. Ahmed very much for his excellent hospitality and excellent service. Very kind and pleasant person. The food was very tasty and well cooked and all homemade. Finally owner came to talk to us, a very good and warm host. We would definitely come back and highly recommend

Don't like writing reviews but I have to say, the meal we ordered was very poor, not cooked enough and very badly presented, Although the staff member at the front of house was polite and friendly. He also dealt with the issue professionally

Most amazing little restaurant. Food is fabulous and atmosphere in great. Such a little gem in the centre of York. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to eat delicious Greek food - especially the mixed grill!

I got the vegetarian moussaka (it is actually suitable for vegans too) and the feta filo pastry. Both tasted incredible and I can't wait to go back. The service was brilliant too.

Food pretty good, good assortment of drinks. Just be aware that if, like me, you're allergic to cheese, then that's going to rule out 80% of the menu. The meat balls have cheese, the potatoes have cheese, the kleftiko has cheese, even the sausages have cheese. Nevertheless, my sofrito was nice and the cocktail was lovely.

Sat outside in the middle of the street, service was excellent and quick, even though we had trouble picking from between the options! Food was absolutely incredible, we had the Souvlaki & Feta Pastry, both were wonderful, and lots of food for 2 people. Will definitely be back!

I honestly loved this place! Amazing service, cozy location, and delicious food! The fried potatoes with paprika and the pita are crazy good, we ordered them twice! As a vegan (with a partner that is not) is usually difficult to find places with a lot of variety but this place is perfect! The house wine is pretty good and the Mushroom moussaka super tasty!

Lovely atmosphere! The lady serving us was just amazing, dealing alone with orders, serving food and looking after clients, and even though she was busy, she was extremely attentive!! Food wise, really nice optionions! Bit disappointed by the octopus: extremely good and tender, but also extreamly small🙄

Great food and great service. Stumbled across this little gem of a place by chance. The sharing plater is plentiful for 2 persons. With a couple of extra smaller dishes, my wife, the kids (2) and I left with our bellies full. We would go back regularly if we lived locally. Spot on!

Greek | Mediterranean restaurant in central York that is cosy, authentic and well presented. Classic Greek dishes on the menu including the meat platter for two which I must say was very popular (must have seen a dozen get served). The food was really nice if not a little too much, but who am I to complain about being over fed. Service was really exceptional (one front of house staff servicing the entire restaurant full of 50 people). Good wine selection. Menu priced a little above average. Comfortable seating. Lovely restaurant and a good atmosphere.

This place was a big disappointment, the food that we ordered looked nothing like the food in reviews.I shared the mixed grill it looked enormous , then when we started to eat , sausages were nice , then down hill from there.the kebabs were over cooked ,lamb chops were small and over cooked, the beef burger (what part of Greece did that come from ?) was bland, the other piece of meat was dried out, And this is what made it look enormous potato wedges masses of them. My daughter had a dish of lamb and mash potatoes, the meat was mostly fat.they quickly replaced it when told, she said it was delicious. So they can get it right, My wife and daughter shared vegetarian platter, they shared 1jacket potato,1slice of aubergine in sauce, dish of butter beans,mushrooms, 2slices of halumi cheese, The food didn’t even look freshly cooked. Me and family’s impression of our visit is that the restaurant is , Overated , Cramped seating ,Food doesn’t seem freshly cooked,food and drinks were way over priced.we did not complain at the time as it was my daughters birthday and did not want to up set her.

We luckily managed to book a table on our way to York and it did not disappoint, absolutely lovely food and service, we had the sharing starter and mains of Moussaka and Lamb Kleftiko, highly recommend!!

Honestly this is probably one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere. We'll definitely come back as often as possible.

The tables are very small and not very comfortable. They are very close to each other because the area is very small. We are told that they are fully booked but they weren't apparently. We were given a table because some groups left the place. Food was nice. Accepting only cash is disadvantageous.

The food was amazing as always. The atmosphere is fantastic, it's a cozy little restaurant with rustic decor. The waiter serving us wasn't as friendly as usual...possibly because it was a busy Friday night. We were really looking forward to vinsanto for dessert and he was very matter of fact about not having any! Still this didn't take away from the overall experience. I would highly recommend the restaurant to any Greek food lovers.

Myself and my partner came here on a Saturday evening - we read lots of good reviews, however we were unfortunately quite disappointed. The restaurant didn't feel very authentically Greek and wasn't really what we were expecting. My partner only drinks cider, however there were none available and there was also no beer on tap, only bottles. Instead of ordering a cocktail (which were all quite unusual), my partner asked for a vodka orange thinking it would be cheaper. Although the restaurant accommodated this request, it was £12 when added to the bill at the end which we thought was extortionate!! The food was also mediocre - we had high expectations of the souvlaki sharer and there was a good amount of food, however it was just chicken skewers with what seemed like frozen wedges underneath and a few sauces. We paid £55 for the meal but I'm sorry to say you get the same thing for cheaper at Nandos 🫤

Definitely 5 stars from us. This little place has a lovely atmosphere and gorgeous food. Waitress was super efficient and really friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Good value for money, after that sharing platter we won't be hungry for another week!

Great environment and atmosphere with nice Greek music, lighting and a very traditional feeling. The staff was very professional and friendly. Food was just ok though and quite pricy. Mix grill for 2 didn't have many meat options for the price (£36) and instead was full of potato wedges. Quality wise, it was ok.

Great little greek restaurant in the heart of York. Food is great and well priced. Especially when sharing a platter. Recommended that you book ahead. We've been in when it's so busy that walk-ins are not possible and on quiet nights they have closed the kitchen earlier

Absolutely loved this Greek place! I'd read the reviews and ensured we booked a table in advance for our trip to York and it did not disappoint. Really friendly and attentive service. The food was amazing! We had the Souvlaki sharing board. My partner has literally not stopped talking about the amazing mustard dip which accompanied this! Highly recommend coming here to eat and will definitely be back when we next visit York.

Lovely family run Greek restaurant. My wife and I shared the meat platter. Very tasty and a nice selection of meats and skewers. We didn't book but we were eating early, would definitely recommend booking in advance though. Quite a small restaurant so not many tables, a lovely atmosphere.

My daughter and I were looking for something different after eating meat pies and fish and chips during our UK vacation. This restaurant was perfection. Attentive staff. Delicious food. Definitely recommend.

I visited with my partner on a Saturday night weekend trip in York. Found the restaurant via Tripadvisor and booked on the day (at around 5pm) for a late dinner (the earliest available was 9pm). The restaurant itself it small, with small tables and chairs. Initial concerns were that we aren't small people so we did find it uncomfortable. I can imagine it being a bit too tight for comfort with 4 people. This opinion changed when we got the food. The drinks are very wine focused, which is a shame for those of us who aren't into wine (and it took a bit of selling with regards to the food and reviews to encourage my partner to agree to go!), but she had a gin based cocktail which she really enjoyed and I had a standard Greek beer. We had a sharer between us and it was some of the best cooked, perfectly flavoured food we've ever had the pleasure of eating in a restaurant. The dessert was just as good, which was a pleasant surprise as we find most restaurants don't really care about their desserts. Highly recommend a visit to this place, even if you don't drink wine. I think it's a shame they focus their name around wine when it's clearly their food which is the best reason to go there. We'd revisit when we go to York again. One very big negative is that they are Cash Only, although there is an ATM next door, be sure to bring a card to withdraw cash and don't rely on a phone for payment...

Lovely restaurant. Food was great and the staff were helpful and friendly.

The first thing I noticed when walking in was how cramped it is in there, and how close together the tables are, I didn't like that at all. We ordered a vegetarian platter, which feeds 2 people. It was well presented, but there wasn't much food at all on it and it was was pricey and nothing to shout home about. Our friends ordered a different platter and some items were missing from it, and other items that were ordered by our table weren't exactly as described on the menu, for example a meat dish didn't come with the sauce it said it would. When we came to pay it was cash only. There is no sign telling you this, nor did they tell us when we first walked in. Who carries around £100 in cash these days!? The only saving grace was that the staff are very friendly. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with this place, we won't be back.

Great menu and house wine! (red). I know it's bit of a cliché but the experience genuinely made me think back to holidays in Greece and the guys who are running the restaurant are really nice to chat to and want you to have a nice time. Just a reminder that when we visited they only accepted cash, but there's a TSB right next door so not a problem. Enjoy!
