Zinc in Ballymoney

Been to this restaurant a few times before, and found it to be very acceptable. We booked again for the 6th April 2024 for 16 people for a birthday celebration, and from the minute we sat down, the experience was horrendous. As an owner of a food establishment, I was extremely disappointed by a certain member of staff, whose attitude was disgusting by the way she handled our complaint. Now we did have another server who was absolutely brilliant! Before we even ordered we asked for 2 separate bills, not split bills as stated on the menu. TWO SEPARATE bills, which seemed a massive deal to write on 2 separate pieces of paper! So once we got over that hurdle, we received our food, which was unfortunately unsatisfactory. Everything was extremely over seasoned, I.e very salty. The chef of Zinc made contact with my son in law, who is a highly qualified chef, about the food, as both had worked with each other previously. He apologised profusely about it and asked if there was anything he could do to fix it, so no fault lies there. When we made it aware to our servers, we were met with extreme hostility from a girl with shortish blonde hair, who I’ve since discovered is either a manager / owner of Zinc, who had the previous problem with writing on 2 separate pieces of paper. Her attitude left a lot to be desired, and as an owner of a food establishment myself, who relies on customers I would hate to treat my customers like that. Terrible terrible attitude! We are normally a 3 course family, but after this behaviour from this server we decided to cut our family dinner short! We still reached them over £400, and wasn't offered any form of discount. But as the old saying goes we live and learn, and will not be returning to Zinc, Ballymoney. If dealing with customers is a struggle for this server, she may need to rethink her career.

Perhaps I should when I called to book said that one of our party is disabled, but she doesnt like a fuss, and her mobility scooter a very small one gave up the ghost at the front door and she had to walk from her car parked right on the door right up to the venue, using a lift, accompanied by a friend, only to be told sorry the tables not ready, 20 yards away its # 6 right at the end the full length of a very crowded restaurant floor, which couldn't have handled the scooter clearance wise anyway. the room was totally over crowded even the waitresses had issues hearing what folk were ordering. I arrived slightly later having to fight with her immobile wouldn't fold scooter to get it into a car..I had booked 7 for 7 30 and was surprised and rattled that the table wasnt available immediately.drinks 2 minerals and a beer were ordered at the bar, and would be brought to the table ..Trisha set off struggling through with her slow gait and her swinging left leg to our 20 yds away table, trying to avoid busy hectic waitress activity along her twisty route.. So maybe 10 mins later drinks arrived and perhaps 20 mins after that a waitress took our shouted orders 2 steaks and a cod and chips, several other diners couples and familys who arrived quite some time after we did were served before us so much so that i started to become mildly annoyed .. food arrived, we tucked in steaks good fish was wrapped in 5mm thick so called ''beer batter'' which could have soled boots, my onion rings were also thick and hiding just a single onion piece not 3 or 4 rings and totally tasteless.. T brought my attention to the fish she was peeling the overcoat of batter to reveal the cod which she ate and left half of it which fed our 3 cats later that evening.. i mentioned to the waitree who collected our dishes about the batter issue and she just nodded, when paying the bill the issue was mentioned and witnessed by our friend whose birthday evening was some what diluted. again no comments made by the person on the till, i tried to call the place this morning and the phone answer was sorry no one around , not even call back at a different time, nothing..so thats my review, had someone been there to take my complaint to listen why i was annoyed i may well not have given such a review. I'm not looking for a free dinner...I dont need the money but I won't be back and I travel in company that do eat out... that like value for money and above all like their food.. and it had been recommend by a good friend ... AND TOTALLY UNSUITABLE FOR ANY DISABLED DINERS

Great place for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Bit more upmarket than the downstairs fast food outlet. Do like the calm quiet dining experience. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. This was my second visit. I will be back........... Loved the experience and the food

Went to zinc for my birthday dinner. Looked forward to a good Sunday roast. This wasn't that 😕. No roast beef left so thought you can't go wrong with a roast chicken dinner but it was a let down. Don't think you're going to get proper sliced roast chicken, it was 2 thin slices of a chicken fillet, done in a frying pan, overdone on 1 side pale on the other, couldn't chew it so gave up. Mash and roasties were nice, 1 little bit or roast carrot + 4 bits of parsnip were OK apart from the sprinkle of rosemary that made it taste floral which I don't like, big chunk of cauliflower + big chunk of broccoli with melted cheese over, its maybe just me but cheese has no place on a Sunday roast dinner. The stuffing was really nice but they'd also ran out of Yorkshire puddings. Pudding was bits of meringue tossed on a plate with cream ( Pavlova) meringue was overdone, hard and bitter. The atmosphere was frantic, if you put your fork down for too long they tried to take your plate, ( twice ) ! Waitress rushed by, whacked my chair, didn't even acknowledge it, just glad I didn't have my fork in my mouth at the time ! Couldn't relax and enjoy it even if the food had of been good. Won't be back for sure .

So disappointing as the online photos made the food look great. I should have checked for photos of the actual restaurant. Its not a place for a couples night out. Its functional - families, people looking to eat and go. I think we were the only people dressed up and with a bottle of wine on the table. Steak was really poor:thin, rubbery. the sauce congealed.

Went for dinner last night with my partner. He ordered a medium cooked rib eye steak. It was totally rare but he decided to try and eat it anyway. Unfortunately he had to leave half of it as there was a lot of fat through it which was undigestible (photo) Food and wine were reasonably priced but unfortunately the food was disappointing so we won't be back.

Went into Zinc thisevening all I can say is the food was amazing I mean amazing the 3 girls were amazing also first class service with a smile so friendly I will definitely be back when in the area 5**** don't miss this immaculate restaurant Martin LOUTH IRELAND

Excellent food and service, steaks excellent and great menu all round. Couldn’t fault one bit and very reasonably priced.

modern bright interior, with friendly staff, we had booked our table and was actually quite busy when we arrived. Menu was great with quite a selection for those who need gluten free options, and a separate specials selection available too, and bar for those with a thirst. I must say I was really impressed with the variety, presentation of our food and portion size and would definitely recommend Zinc as a destination for a decent meal at reasonable cost

Great place!! Totally chance finding from Google Maps when travelling via Ballymoney. Beautiful food, buzzing atmosphere, great service by lovely people. Not usual pub grub or typical restaurant menu just lovely home made food. Great value and thoroughly recommended!

Over from England visiting family and had visited Superbites below many times in the past but never considered Zinc before. Now sorry we hadn’t done so earlier. Pleasant staff bright decor and a varied menu of which we could find no fault with anything brought to the table. Good value for money and a definite return on our next visit to Ballymoney.

So Zinc has been here in Ballymoney for a while but as a restaurant , middle of the road price band above a chippy, its easy to walk past As I have done until a friend took me out Plenty of parking is a plus, 3 carparks serving here and the chippy. Lift to the restaurant was out of order tonight - ring ahead if this is a must A lovely lively bright buzzing restaurant. Today was really hot, yet it was lovely and cool inside Colours whilst bright weren't in your face, just right for the vibe which was couples and friends whilst I was there Staff were so friendly without being besties ( a personal hate of mine ) Totally relaxed and no question too much service So drinks, service, - spot on Food. Now if I can say 2 course on a weekend night for £18 , you are thinking cheap end? How about Lamb Kebab and salmon? And so much food you cant finish it all? Totally blown away with the quality of food at the price point The salad wasnt from a bag _ thats a 10/10 straight away The food and presentation were spot on. My only "Complaint" isnt really, I thought a tad too much salt on the lamb kofta, but then that really is a personal taste. The kebab itself was so moist inside yet a crispy outside and tbh HUGE when knowing you have another dish to eat :) Yes I totally loved the meal and thought the service was great and yes I will be back and will recommend to everyone I know

A fitting last night in Ballymoney. Finally got to try champ, which was good and was surprised to find chocolate in the apple crumble, but it worked well. Anywhere where you get both custard and ice cream has to be worth a visit.

Amazing find in Balleymoney. Honestly, the reviews were fantastic, but we were not expecting much. Oh how we were wrong. The interior is nice and very trendy with lots of colors. The staff were amazing. They literally appeared to be enjoying their job with smiles on their faces and laughter. The food. While we both had the Fish & Chips, it was wonderful. Fresh, flakey, and the batter was crisp. And it comes with mushy peas. Which I have tried all over Ireland and England are honestly horrific. But Zinc's, were different. Almost like they used the petite peas which gave them a fresh and sweet flavor. I'd eat them as a full side dish if they all tasted like Zinc's.

I'd have to admit that the steak I had here is the best steak I've ever had in a restaurant, cooked to perfection, beautiful meal,friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

I enjoyed a lovely meal with two of my grandsons Will 17 and Ned 15. Service was brilliant water karafe kept filled. Food was fantastic Will and I had chicken bang bang and Ned had chilli chicken pasta we really enjoyed our visit to Zinc this was our first time there and we will definitely be back again. Heather

A unique restaurant. Staff was friendly, ambience was cozy. The food was delectable, and there were plenty of options for my Gluten-free and Dairy-free wife.

This was our first visit to Zinc and we were delighted with everything about it. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and the decor contemporary. The staff could not have been more attentive and friendly, patiently and cheerfully ensuring that our two young grandchildren had a great time! The meal was excellent - Bushmills Chicken, Chicken Wellington and Sizzling Honey Chilli Chicken - each beautifully cooked and presented. I would highly recommend Zinc and look forward to returning soon!

Wonderful dinner in arguably Ballymoney’s best restaurant! A wide selection of excellent quality starters and mains, with desserts to die for! Go hungry, the portions are very healthy!

We're regular visitors to Zinc and can't fault the food in any way... good decent local grub, and service with a smile. I've only 1 gripe... I just wish there was a softer atmosphere... it's like a modern American diner and it does the place no favours.

Zinc is an amazing restaurant to go to if you're wanting some food that is rich and homemade. They have a range of different food, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Every time I have come here their food has always been glorious both when dining in and taking out food and are always quick with their service.

Staff are friendly and personable, usually plenty of places to sit but can get pretty busy on Sundays with folks popping in for Sunday lunch. Sunday lunch options are usually pretty good and the price is reasonable. Would definitely recommend Zinc as a family friendly location.

Nothing special. Staff ok but nobody went the extra mile. Ordered a cocktail that came with a shot of Prosecco which was flat. It was soon replaced to be fair. My husband's orange juice and lemonade came as orange squash....

Went for dinner, having two nights in Ballymoney. The meal was just ok. I had the roasted salmon and is was over cooked as it was dry, My husband said his chicken meal was ok and finished it all. Service was excellent and friendly. Not too many choices to eat in Ballymoney.

Decided to dine out this evening at Zinc and it did not disappoint. Crispy chicken wings for starters followed by chicken served on bed of champ with pepper sauce and tobacco onions. Compliments to the chef👏👏 it was not only delicious but also great value for money too.

My Partner & myself rang to book a table at short notice and they were able to take us. We both choose from the Sunday Lunch menu and I had Roast Chicken and my partner had Roast Beef. Both meals were excellent and I would say the roast beef was the better of the two as it was slow cooked and melted in your month. I was nice that the table had a jug of water and glasses. Staff were pleasant and friendly and we didn't wait to long for our food. We'll be back again soon😀

All 3 of us enjoyed our meals very much. I had the bang bang chicken a dish I had heard about but never tried. The chicken came on skewers and was delicious. Staff were very attentive, friendly and made us feel very welcome

This was our 14th Sunday night recently in the restaurant and delightful as usual. We used to head to Portrush previously on Sunday nights but since finding this restaurant - not anymore! Top notch grub at very good prices with service to match...

We called hereon our way home from the Port. It was our first visit and it won't be our last. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. A great choice of menu as well. We had three courses and they were all very good....

A pretty good menu, I had a lamb shank which was cooked and presented well. My friend dining with me had pasta which too was well prepared.

Extremely well looked after by the courteous staff. The cod dish I ordered had a light batter and was cooked to perfection. My wife had the sea bass which she also thought was very tasty. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back .

Two choices of Christmas fare available on Saturday night. My wife had the turkey steak and I had the beef. Both meals were excellent! Staff are always polite and attentive. Highly recommended.

Called into Zinc on Tuesday past with me wife and daughter. We had originally planned to meet friends in Portstewart but they unfortunately had to rain-check so we decided to stay closer to home, handier for drinking and not driving. Our meal in Zinc was exceptionally good. We had Tequila Cod Tacos and Chicken and Chorizo Spring Rolls for starters which were genuinely excellent. Our mains of Steak, Salmon and Mixed Grill were fantastic in flavour, plentiful and cooked really well with absolutely no complaints. The two staff working on Tuesday (sorry didn’t get names) were attentive and welcoming and made for a really pleasant evening. I have said this before and I am more than happy to say this again Zinc is one of my favourite restaurants in our area and the really nice thing is that it isn’t hyped up like the eateries in the two Ports which quite frankly in the main are mostly overrated and over priced. Well done Zinc for keeping it simple and real. We will definitely being seeing you again soon

It my be situated above a chippy BUT DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A PRESIDENT, Zinc is fantastic, food, service, staff & hygiene are all of a very high standard. Food very well cooked and presented to you. I will have not trouble in returning here for a meal in the future.

The atmosphere was great. It was very busy we had to wait for our table but didn’t mind as we had a drink in the waiting area. The food was great too. The only thing I would be neg about was that the tables and chairs are a bit cafe style, yet the place has a lively restaurant vibe. Lovely ceiling lights like stars.

The spicy chicken was supposed to be with caesar salad but it just seemed to be a pile of leaves with mayo. Pasta was edible. Overall not great despite the prices. Would have preferred less food at higher quality.
