Zitto in East Lothian

Sorry to say zittos has gone down hill. The gents toilets were always filthy they are now worse. Riddled with disease. The lasagna had a morsel of meat in it. The dish level was half full. Yet another restaurant not paying attention.

We are fairly regular visitors to Zitto and it never disappoints.Friendly staff, lovely food and wine.Highlight starters are the king prawns with chilli, garlic & saffron and the mini pizzas. My favourite mains are penne arrabiata and the spaghetti with prawns. Looking forward to a return after lockdown.

Ate here at lunch time lovely tapas, wine and excellent service! Not too busy and all covid regulations in place. Thank you

Delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Recommend the chorizo & crispy potato salad, cheesecake and banoffee pie. The wee tapas dishes were great & staff were very accommodating!

We were very excited to be meeting another household for lunch and even taking the first short train ride since lockdown to get there. First impressions were promising a nice modern clean restaurant and very friendly helpful staff throughout the whole experience. However the food....it was a very over cluttered menu which should have alerted us. The starter I had was minestrone soup - very bland/no flavour but edible. The gnocchi I had Potato dumplings in a beetroot sauce with blue cheese, topped with fresh rocket & toasted almonds. I was expecting a taste contrast between the cheese and the beetroot. The only taste was from the rocket which I made sure I was able to consume ith most bites for flavour. I refuse to believe that that dish had seen a crumb of blue cheese. Very very disappointing. My partner has the three tapas - very mediocre, unimaginative and dull.I don't know if this is a result of the over cluttered menu but if coming here I would stick to the pizza - they can't do much wrong with that. I note that some people have rated this restaurant highly, either standard are low in north Berwick or the kitchen was having an off day. There are two very very good Italian restaurants in Musselburgh well worth looking up if you like authentic tasty Italian foodNeedless to say I won't be returning or recommending.

Delicious Italian lunch for two today. Carbonara and lasagna was excellent as was the chocolate fudge cake! Staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Just collected a Pizza and Pasta Takeaway from ZITTOS, I’ve got to say the pizza was cooked to perfection, and the Pasta was super tasty. Magnificent Value. Well done to all the Staff during these test g times. Well done ZITTOS

Was here on Monday the 5th of October for dinner, it was that good I sent back for lunch today Wednesday the 7th of october!! We had the tapas today which was fabulous, especially the fungi crostini!! Service was excellent and the price was amazing, as eat out to help out is still on!! Well done zitto!!

We visit the east coast on a frequent basis and always now incorporate a visit to Zitto, North Berwick and rate this restaurant as excellent. The food is always of a very high quality and very tasty, whilst being good value. The surroundings are lovely and always clean. The staff are doing a great job of keeping their customers safe during this Covid period, whilst being friendly. Can we thank Chelsea our waitress for her lovely friendly service. Looking forward to our next visit. James & Margaret McLellan

Visit for an evening meal. Lovely meal during a holiday in the area. Extensive menu, friendly service and very COVID safe. Recommend Prawns and Calamari starter. Mains were Crispelle al Forno and Papperdelle with Piccante Sauce. Both were lovely. Would not hesitate to return.

Expect little to avoid disappointment. Very “below average “ food even for this type of ordinary Italian eatery. The risotto was particularly bad, mushy and tasteless. If this is the best they can serve on a quiet evening, hate to think what it would be like on a busy one. A very rowdy table of four drunk young men used 4 letter words constantly and were simply asked to quieten down by waiting staff, not a manager in sight!

Really enjoyed all our food at Zitto , loved the fact their was three choices of sizes of pasta dishes , I would normally not have a starter but here I could have a starter and then a small pasta and managed to eat it all . Felt ‘Covid safe’ .

According to Tripadvisor, Zitto is the 9th best restaurant in North Berwick. If that’s true, then the other 8 must be out of this world!Visited for lunch and the food and service were excellent. Minestrone soup was probably the best I’ve tasted in any Italian restaurant. My wife started with the prawns and they were delicious. Decent wine list too, and all at a very reasonable price. Don’t be put off by the Trip Advisor ranking, and just go and try it.

Visited North Berwick for our wedding anniversary. We popped in on our first night and enjoyed a couple of drinks from extensive wine list. Booked for the following evening for a meal - just delicious! Recommend the gnocchi, yum. Lovely place and friendly staff. COVID secure.

Been tonight for family meal - third visit this month and all visits have been very pleasurable. Service, food and atmosphere are first class. We are in the trade and appreciate the same standards that we have for our customers.

We dined here with young children and it was great. The menu was extensive and portion sizes allowed flexibility. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their chosen dishes. Only criticism was the service was slow but it was a busy Saturday night. Will definitely return.

Delicious meal, carefully served with good quality produce. We felt very safe with tables well spaced and a one way system.

Staff is good and the place is quite spacious.We first took 3 tapas - Eggplant, seafood risotto and small pizza. That was very good and we should have stopped on that.Then for mains we took calzone and lobster pasta pockets. Less good, my wife says 2 stars - meaning edible but not good.I would give it 3 stars for food, considering the tapas. Calzone was huge and came with a small, uninspired salad that I did not feel went well with the calzone. This in turn was ok, and probably too large after the tapas. However it was really tiring to eat and I did not think the taste was great.My wife had the pasta and it was again OK, but not very good. Not bad food, however I would not eat there again.Menu is probably way too large.They were still doing (9th September ) the Eat-out to help out discount, helped with the cost, but not sure if it helped with the quality.

This restaurant has been closed for a number of weeks stating thank you for you custom over past eight years, reopened August 8th. Nothing has changed in Zittos, Staff and female owner much the same, scruffy clothes and shoes, service poor, jars full of corks in windows filthy, outside the toilets are like a jumble sale with clothes hanging up, and boxes on the floor. When leaving 5 members of staff including the female owner/manageress were busy chatting at the bar as we pushed through to leave by the back door of the one way system, no one said did you enjoy your meal etc. On going out the fire door it was a shambles outside, gas bottles just waiting to fall on someone, used oil containers, beer kegs, boxes etc etc large rubbish bin to go past.No doubt about it this place will not last another 8 weeks never mind 8 years. Zittos no more

Lovely Italian. Very well set up for covid-safe running. Quick service, very nice food , pasta dishes were fresh and with a unique twist. Enjoyable evening for all of us.

Lovely high table and quick and friendly service, Zitto was a great find in the centre of town. Very large menu to choose from and good atmosphere.

Nice little resteraunt,you can park at rear, as north berwick can be busy. Good selection of foods. Very tasty pizzas and chicken dishes we had. Decent value, would recommend.

Been to Zitto loads of times and it is always great. Food is always delicious and a great selection. Small pizzas for starters are amazing. Pasta dishes are great with a choice of penne, spaghetti and paperdelle to go with your sauce - my favourite is arrabiata. Spaghetti dish with prawns is also one to recommend.Staff are lovely and provide great service without being intrusive.Highly recommend Zitto!

Between us we started with mussels, nice & plump and a combo of calamari & prawns which were nicely cooked and tasty. Mains including Highlander Chicken a pasta dish and pizza were most enjoyable.A good selection of wines which are good value for money, many restaurants in the town do not offer much below £20 a bottle but here there is a good choice and starting at £15.95.

I have lost count of the number of times I have been in this restaurant over the years and the main reason I return is that the quality never drops.The menu is mostly Italian, but there are also numerous international meals in addition. My favourite is the way the Chef prepares the Monkfish on a skewer which is irresistible. The staff are friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is cozy and warm.Making a reservation at the weekend is a must and advisable midweek too.I highly recommend this restaurant if you are a short term or long term visitor to North Berwick.

Visited here yesterday. I’ve been several times but he had not so wanted him to experience the food and atmosphere. Excellent review from us both with attentive staff and freshly prepared food. Be back here again soon.

This months choice of restaurant proved excellent, surroundings, service and quality of food all tremendous.

Been a number of times but this visit was slightly disappointing. Service was good and as usual there's a huge choice. My scampi royal was good but what let this visit down was the pizzas that some of our party had. Not crispy and a bit bland.

Visited here on a busy Tuesday evening in November. Service was very good, staff were very friendly and welcoming. We both had different risottos and both were excellent, really tasty and well cooked.

Cold windy day of sightseeing so we stopped in for dinner before heading back to our rental. The 4 of us put our orders in- 3 Tapas- risotto, Zucchini Fries and eggplant parm- perfect portions, Vitello Milanese, Fish and Chips and Salmon Stefano. A large party came in and my order inadvertently was not put into the kitchen! A disappointment was outweighed by 2 things- when my salmon finally came it was the best meal I have ever had- weeks later we are all still thinking about it- and 2nd- they removed it from our tab for their mistake. WOW! This does not happen very often. needless to say, our meals were all excellent. If in the area- DINE HERE!

Never been and thought the reasonable Itison voucher was a good opportunity to try this restaurant. Starters were ok but unfortunately main courses were very poor, mushroom pasta dish tasted exactly like heinz cream of mushroom soup and the bolognese sauce was bland. We've travelled extensively in Italy and this wasn't close to the standard we expected.

Lovely setting, nice selection of drinks and food on offer. My husband ordered the 'Calamity Jane' pizza and the 'shredded chicken' was just random chunks of chicken. He told me it was mediocre/a bit bland which isn't great for an Italian restaurant! We also had tapas....I have to say that the meatballs were very tasty.

My wife and I took advantage of the three for £14 tapas offer late on a Friday afternoon. The portions were quite large and tasted great. Service was excellent. We will be back again next time we visit North Berwick.

We had a very pleasant lunch today. Being on a gluten-free and lactose-free diet I had the gluten-free pasta pesto with no cream, and my wife had pasta with salmon and asparagus. Both dishes were very enjoyable as were our glasses of Merlot and Pinot Grigio. The staff were very friendly and polite. It was an enjoyable lunch.

Great attentive service. It was warm and clean. Nice atmosphere and decor.

Booked a table for two in window in advance. Arrived to find table taken even though many other tables. Staff looked demoralised and disinterested. Garlic bread was cold, greasy and undercooked; Spaghetti with tomato sauce was watery; tasteless and I left half. It seems to have become a lot worse. Have recently tried Cucina Amore, where the food is piping hot and delicious and front of house waiter very welcoming. I thought I would give Zittos another go today, but it was so bad I will not return here. I have had many poor meals here but today was the worst. Need to buck up their ideas.

Went for lunch with elderly relatives. The tapas size portions suit their appetites. Great choice including pizza and pasta. Wait staff organised we could choose the order the dishes were prepared and served so food wasn't cold by the time we ate it

Reading reviews, we were looking forward to going! However, the food was unfortunately terrible. Pasta sauce was incredibly watery, chicken was frozen and glasses were filthy. Service was ok, although extremely slow and inattentive. We were overcharged but this was sorted quickly. Considering the price, we expected much better - won’t be back.

Eaten here many times love the Italian tapas great choice of dishes usual high standards, took our friends this time and they also said the food was excellent.

This was our second visit and the food and service was again excellent. The tapas were a good size and the lasagna was great and very filling. Would recommend this restaurant as good value.

Nice outside area where we could sit with our dog. Food very good. Cannot emphasise enough how dog friendly the local bistros are...and good food into the bargain. Would definitely recommend

Had a lovely meal here, very reasonably priced, wine not overpriced at all and the food was excellent. Basically a very good Italian restaurant. Restaurant atmosphere was good too, not too posey but not basic either just right. Service was excellent. Would recommend it.

We enjoyed our meal here very much; there was a really nice buzz about the place. Staff were friendly and helpful, and although busy, were happy to advise about the food and wine and have a chat. There was an option to have various tapas dishes or a main course; these were offered on a 'small, medium or huge' basis! I like that idea as it caters for folk with different sized appetites. Really liked this restaurant and would go back.

A huge menu usually means a chef would struggle to make everything but all our food was great. Good waiting staff too.

I visited Zitto with my friends. They special Lassagne AL FORNO was baked too long in the oven so eventually it was too hot to serve it clients. You could burn your tounge, seriously no joking. What is more it was with no taste due to structure of pasta and cheese was totally mixed and melted on the fork. I do not recommend this dish. On the other hand Spaghetti Carbonara was delicious with great ingredients and the rest of ordered course were ok. Generally speaking local is very nice decorated, there were a few tables in the outside garden. Staff were friendly. More or less I would give 5 but because finally we waited 15min to pay by card so last sight of this place was bad.

We’ve been here every year since it opened but feel that it’s now peaked. The food is over priced £15 for chicken in sauce that was good but not remarkable. The service has never been great but last night it was appalling. It wasn’t busy either. The other thing is the restaurant has no open doors or windows and with no air con it’s unbearably hot. Not a comfortable evening. Two adults and two children nearly £100!! Won’t bother again. Happy to pay but expect better.

Brilliant Italian restaurant with great food. Staff are so attentive and efficient, don't know how they do it. Restaurant always busy (locals and visitors always a good sign! ) and you really need to book. But even when it is packed, as with our recent visit, the staff zip around and quality check, even apologising if a few minutes wait! Lovely experience eating here, but can be noisy just due to the sheer buzz and happy people enjoying good food!

Went with 5 friends out to dinner here. Everyone got their food except my friend never received her starter salad. I also never received my pasta when everyone else’s came out. I saw him with a plate and he realized it was wrong. By the time what I thought my correct order came out, I said put it in a to go box. When I opened it, it was wrong for a second time. I had to pay for the glass of wine and I left hungry. Such a disappoint. Oh and the kid also wrote down our orders on paper! How bad is that?!

Went here as a large group of 6 adults and 5 children and booked our table for 630pm which we were in time for. Taken to table through back and were the first diners through there. We were then pretty much ignored for a while before eventually getting a drink order in. Then waited even longer to give food order and had to ask 2 or 3 times. Food order given and asked for kids food to come out first whilst we shared some bread and olives. Food eventually arrived about 730pm. The restaurant was full now and 3 other large tables had got their food well before us. We then had to keep asking where our food was before being served at 825pm almost 2 hours after arriving. I will say that the food was enjoyable and tasty apart from risotto. The kids by now were really bored.

A very nice meal in the busy Zitto restaurant in North Berwick. Parking the car can be a nightmare on a sunny Sunday but the staff were helpful as we waited for drivers to appear. The back of the restaurant is a bit less cluttered and easier to relax. Kids were satisfied with their pizza and chips but mostly loved the fudge. Mains were of adequate portion size and the little tapas style choices much appreciated.

Enjoyed a meal here thanks to recommendation and discount from our holiday park. We were seated outside because we had our dogs with us which was fine. Good service and lovely Italian food after a busy day.

Visited Zittos with my daughter on what seemed like a fairly quiet Friday lunch time in NB only to just get a table inside and then Zittos filled up very quickly.... !

We left it until late to go in search of dinner on a Sunday evening. We were lucky to come across a great meal here. The Scozzosi pizza was fantastic!

We go to Zittos quite often when we are in north Berwick as the food is generally pretty good. I can’t say we’ve ever had great service but Friday at 3.30 was definitely the worst. The young waitress was not very knowledgeable or friendly. She brought us 4 slices of bread for 5 people, we weren’t offered black pepper of Parmesan and not given a spoon to twist our pasta. If I was paying £5 in Pizza Hut ok but a £70 bill for 2 adults 3 kids with poor Italian food knowledge is not on. Also

We found this restaurant when we were exploring North Berwick. We liked the look of the menu and the prices so we booked for dinner [4 of us]. One of the best decisions we have ever made. The restaurant was busy without seeming crowded. Great atmosphere and attentive service without being over the top. The food was outstanding. My mum was Italian and rarely do I eat an Italian meal as good as Mamma used to make but this certainly came close.The range of meals was great and the fact that you could choose small, medium or large portions meant that I could have a starter and a medium main course. Both excellent, as were the meals of all four of us.Highly recommended.

An absolute treasure in the heart of beautiful North Berwick. Outstanding Italian food from a very varied menu, either tapas to share, perfect pizzas and pastas, and good selection of meat and fish dishes. North Berwick seems to have a lack of outside seating to enjoy a cool beer on a nice sunny evening. We were so pleased to come across Zitto’s on Quality Street. The staff were very polite and friendly and although we only had drinks the restaurant inside was busy. We will certainly go back when next in the area.

We had lunch here inbetween visiting near by castles. We had a look at the menu in the window and were impressed by what we saw, so went inside. We were quickly seated at a table of our choice and given a menu. They had an excellent Italian Tapas offer on, three dishes for around £15, but the rest of the menu was also very tempting. I decided on three tapas dishes; seafood risotto, deep fried chicken wings in batter and a chorizo and potato dish served on salad. They were all fantastic and not stingy portions either. My husband chose gnocchi, as it is his favourite Italian food and you don't see it that often. What we particularly liked is that both the pasta and pizza on offer came in three different sizes and prices, so that you can choose what to get depending on how hungry you are, or if you are ordering for children. My husband chose the biggest size of gnocchi and loved what he had. The service was excellent and the jug of iced water, which was complimentary, was very welcome.

North Berwick has a few cafes, restaurants and bars...but when the sun is out it becomes apparent there is a lack of outside eateries. Perhaps people just hit the beach, or perhaps Im not fully familiar with where they are.

Both myself and partner had a great dining experience helpful staff and great service as well as tasty food at great prices.

Recently had a very tasty meal at Zitto’s on 14/06, choosing a selection of 6 tapas and some breads and olive oils.

My friend and I had lovely lunch here 6 good size tapas and a bottle of wine £48 . Great fresh made food at a fair price . We sat outside but inside looked nice and fresh too so would not hesitate to go back .

Nice late lunch/ early dinner here after a trip to the Isle of May. Good, broad menu, with seats outside and inside. Very busy when I got there, but they fitted me in, and service was relatively quick.

Been here many times . Food is good Pate very good. Will go back again but I wish the staff would not just use bare hands when using the Parmesan cheese. It is a very dirty habit and should stop immediately

Visited with limited expectations and was completely won over. Nice vibe and outstanding staff, very quick service but really tasty food. I had a really nice pizza and my wife raved about her Scorpio pasta. Antipasti starter too was excellent. Bin end Sardinian wine was a stunner. Went in expecting not much but left feeling delighted. Relaxed atmosphere with good # of locals eating there and a bar available as well. We wanted to have a salad, pizza and wine after playing golf and this was a great casual place to have a bite to eat. Good service and very good thin crust pizza. Good for couples or families alike. A pretty wide assorted menu.

Not been for some time but booked for a late lunch with my family. Managed to get the window table. Good service from the staff and a comprehensive menu - not all Italian but gives the option for those that want something else. Prices also reasonable

Zittos serve different dishes and also a tapas menu. A lot of different beverages, a popular place and table reservation is nearly a must.

I visited Zitto's a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday evening for my fiancé's birthday and the whole experience was a complete disaster. Firstly, the food was very disappointing. We both had Calamari & Prawns to start which was over £8 per dish and it was the worst Calamari I have ever tasted. It was bland, rubbery and the batter wasn't stuck to the squid. I would liken it to chewing an elastic band. The prawns were also very chewy and rubbery and didn't seem overly fresh. The mains I can’t be overly critical about as they were quite tasty, albeit the dishes are simple to cook (Carbonarra and Arribiata).

Ate here twice during our 3 night stay in North Berwick. Loved it. Great service, wine and amazing food. Had the best pizza and my husband raved about his carbonara. Nice atmosphere......totally recommend

Minestrone soup - water bewitched. Thin vaguely tomato flavoured soup with some sorry, soggy bits of carrot floating in it. Pizza arrived with an oil slick on top. Husband, who was starving, bravely ploughed in but could only eat one ice before giving up. Go to Cucina Amore instead. We are there last night and it’s in a different league!

Very nice Italian resteraunt in the center of North Berwick. Offering a decent choice of Italian dishes and including their twist on tapas there is something for everyone. The portions are good and presentation is excellent. The staff are friendly and not overbearing and offered assistance to my gluten free (not by choice but ailment) other half which opened up her selection. A busy place so booking desirable, we were walk in.

One of the nicest meals out I've had in a long time. All of the pastas were delicious as were the side dishes. Everything was so good we ordered desserts and weren't disappointed. Outstanding service through the back restaurant from a young girl who is still in school - she couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Loved Zitto and would highly recommend.

Great pizza, lasagne and fish n chips at family friendly Zittos, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.

Six of us met for lunch at Zitto's. The menu had something for everyone and the food was hot and tasty. I particularly liked the fact several dishes are offered in sizes small, medium and large. We all opted for the additional marshmallow 'snowball' with our ice cream desserts - lovely! Most of us had soft drinks because we were driving so didn't explore the wine list. We three women then had a stroll along North Berwick's attractive High Street and left our husbands to put the World to rights over coffees.

use this place a lot until my daughter was served uncooked chicken as a starter - when the waiter came over , he took the plate away no apology no discussion at all, we didn't know what was happening but then he came back with a new starter (same dish) , my daughter didn't want it again as she was put off, but was given no offer of a change of choice - it was presented to her again without an apology - also white wine was warm!! probably lack of training of staff but did spoil our night

We thoroughly enjoyed this place we were dining on a deal the menu was excellent plenty of choice loved the fact there was a tapas selection which we loved. I had melt in your mouth mezzanine delightful. The fresh pasta filled with lobster and seafood dish was truly amazing and well worth teh wait finnished by affagato and a few gins. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. When I am back will defineatly enjoy another trip to here.

We visited Vitto when staying at the Macdonald Marine, based on good reviews we’d seen and we weren’t disappointed. We were seated at the back in the restaurant, as I think the front area is the wine bar, it was quiet but enough of an atmosphere not to be an issue.

It was really the menu that made me eat here as it caters very well for vegetarian. I wasn't disappointed fantastic selection and portion sizes were very generous and delighted to find my favourite Italian dish gnocchi sorrentinno offered. Extensive wine list.
