Chatwins - Upton in Cheshire West and Chester

At nearly £7 for a bacon sarni and drink, it’s certainly not worth it! Head office wrote back to me after I sent them images of the bacon their shop was serving, saying “Most shops naturally fall into the category of cooking it until there’s a nice amount of colour on therefore looking at the images provided, we feel all the bacon has been sufficiently cooked.” 🤢

Breakfast Bap: Mushrooms were delicious, bap was fresh, egg was cooked to perfection and the sausage was great, staff were so kind and allowed for a change in the bacon for a sausage, great store!!

Popped in this morning got pasty,and pork roll,both items tasted like yesterday's rewarmed scran,was dry,and that hard could of hammered a nail in.!ended up as bird food but even Steven seagull turned his beak up at it...

My husband found this place last year when we were at the Countess and I was waiting for my labor to kick off and he needed a warm meal. Now each time we come to the hospital for baby appointments this is our lunch stop. The baps are so tasty and filling that we devour them before even thinking of taking a photo. The doorstep toast is a nice bonus for our little one who loves to munch on bread. Very nice and caring staff who were always attentive to our needs. The only downside is there is no changing facilities, which is understandable being such a small place. Unfortunately wheelchairs also can't access the bathroom area.

Great selection of savory foods and naughty cakes. All served with a smile from Sophie.

Had Turkey batch 30/08/2023 medium sized roll, two slices of turkey stuffing cranburry and bit of onion, it cost me £6 wow thats mad!!

Great food, I love the savoury rolls and sausage rolls, great cakes eat in or takeout Better than your average bakeries

This is about PRESCOT BRANCH WHICH IS NOT LISTED ON HERE! Went today and bought 1 x hot roast pork barm 2 x bacon barms 1 x steak pie. Guess how much it cost me!!! £16.75 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES YOU READ IT RIGHT £16.75 ARGH!!! What a rip off wont be going back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP OFF!

Always good for a breakfast brand and coffee!

I’ve visited a few times over the past month, and always leave smiling when the young lad has served me. Nothing is too much trouble and he’s lovely and friendly. I rarely leave reviews but he is consistently lovely and a credit to the company.

I don't mind paying a little more for a tasty well filled sandwich but today's egg salad batch was very poor. Minimal chunks of egg that barely covered half of the roll/ one thin slice of onion /browning shrivelled lettuce but three thick slices of tomato!!! Certainly not worth their inflated price, this will teach me not to shop at this Chatwins. My husband tells me that this particular assistant is always very skimpy on fillings though I would have thought that such a large company would have specified portions.

Staff friendly and helpful, food (especially the cream cakes) excellent but the background music is TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE. I've emailed their H.O.before to politely suggest they play music that is more suitable but, although my complaint was acknowledged, I heard nothing further. I took my wife there on Saturday to have a quick snack and cup of coffee whilst reading the newspapers. The music that was on in the background was AWFUL DREADFUL DREADFUL DREADFUL. A HELLISH EXPERIENCE!. A radio station loudly playing moronic, rap stuff! Totally out ofkeeping with the place - it wasn't a disco in the Bronx!!!! I won't dine in there again. It totally ruined the experience. Most of the customers who dine in are not youngsters high on drugs!!! Truly bl@@dy awful. Avoid like the plague if you want a peaceful, conversation over a coffee. This is such a pity as the staff are nice and helpful and their cakes are the best . (Their white batches though are dreadful- like paper. They used to be superb). Whoever is responsible for forcing this type of music on the clientel must be gormless. They won't be getting my eat-in spends (about £40-£50 a week) from me any more.Costa and Caffe Nero here we come.

Had the new “Roast in a box” from Chatwin’s in Upton, you get two thick slices of meat (I had pork), Roast Potatoes, carrots, green beans, stuffing, crackling & gravy all for £7.50 to take away. Overall quality good, only small negative the member of staff didn’t know what they had to put in it

The food is top quality, the staff are really welcoming but I feel it is overpriced and rarely has special offers on.

Need to train junior staff a bit better. Senior staff on our visit didn't intervene to assist.

An awful experience Karen who served us was disinterest and someone I’d not want to experience in any hospitality position. Over £20 for two sandwich’s and two drinks you’d hope for more, around 2pm no wraps no more bacon other than one portion no Yorkshire puddings just poor all round .. told if you stay here it costs more 🤦🏻‍♂️

Absolutely fantastic service and food, my absolute favourite has to be the fully loaded carvery wrap (see picture), but their rolls, baps and cakes are stunning as well!

I usually love the upton chatwins and would give it 5 stars, but today was an exception. Ordered the usual pork bap as the cut is always great and they load on the apple sauce and stuffing. For £5.50 i expect the quality i always get but today it was disappointing. I received near to no apple sauce and a tiny amount of stuffing compared to what i normally get (keep in mind i ask for a lot). So this was again a disappointment for the price and i hope i dont experience it again.

Had the steak pie today it was perfect,the pastry was lovely,there was enough meat and gravy.The tomato soup and bread was nice too.

Food is lovely and the staff are always very pleasant. Would recommend.

Worst customer service ever ! I spend £50 a week at chatwins, but not any more. Just went in for lunch about 2pm, theres only 1 customer in there and 3 members of staff on. After being ignored for 2 minutes, i ask a lady to make me a sandwich , she rolls her eyes and says im busy. I then say shes only arranging the pies can you make me a sandwich. Shes then gives me a dirty look , and rolls her eyes atme again , i then laughingly say calm down love chillout , a lady then appears and im told im being abusive !! I bid them farewell and off i pop . Ive spent £1000's at chatwins over the years ....wont be going back .

I adore this venue very much. theres a different air. The food is tasty. the service is effective and the personel is very professional. The cost is modest. I highly recommend.

The multi seed bread is amazing , cakes and pastries are very scrumptious too, highly recommend... staff are lovely and very accommodating as well ... shop needs an uplift as a bit dated and old now tho to be in line with everywhere else...

Visited in the morning for toast and a sandwich I was rudely informed by the assistant that they had no turkey for a sandwich as it hadn't been cooked. I politely informed the lady, I didn't want carveryturkey , it was the cold turkey and she dismissed my comment. I would like to add I have visited this store before and ordered a cold turkey bap. She never offered any alternative and made it quite clear she was really quite unwilling to even make a sandwich at 9am in the morning. She then stormed around to the entrance door and shut it whilst we waited for my toast quite clearly expressing her annoyance that I had left the door open when I walked in!!! Obviously this lady needs customer service training! She was miserable in attitude and after the appalling behaviour, I wasn't willing to purchase any cakes or bread, so I visited their hoole store..... quite the opposite , quick service, friendly staff and staff who care and you can see enjoy their job. Chatwins Management-- the Upton store needs an injection of personality as training,

Staying in Chester for a holiday & thought we would give our custom to a local business... BIG MISTAKE! Ordered our food & handed over x3 new Scottish £10 to pay,to be told they couldn't accept them. I pointed out they were sterling but was told company policy was not to accept them as there were a lot of Scottish fake money. NEVER have I felt more insulted, last time I checked we were all part of Great Britain & this was simply borderline racisim. I suggest this business rethinks its policy before it ends up in hot water with an attitude like this. Food was decidedly average & service was slow, in hindsight we should have walked out as soon as we were met with such an insult!

Opens late an closes early! Again today I went to the store at 15.50 an it was closed. I'm not one to usually leave reviews but this is happening so often with this shop I felt I had to warn customers.

Called into shop recently for my favourite Savory roll. Whole ambience from outside to inside is dark. Needs some decent lighting. Makes the place appear dirty. Staff behind counter seem very miserable no people skills. Think the savoury rolls have shrunk.

You need to change the opening times on Google for the Mill Lane store. I came here for 7:30 only to find out it opens at 8 😡

We had full breakfast with a tea and a coffee. The food was excellent, of very special note was the "door step" toast. In fact it was all very good. I enjoy good coffee and the Americano with milk was exceptional. I will return just to sit with a news paper, coffee and thick cut toast.

Nice bakers shop, worth a visit plenty of choice. Clean tidy shop. Great savouries,sausage rolls very tasty.

A nice shop on the main road in Upton. They had a lovely window display of bread and cakes. The cakes were lovely, very fresh with lots of filling.

The coffee was bitter and undrinkable so I left it. The server was unfriendly to me and my children. We love visiting Chatwins in Hoole and go often. We will not return to this location because of the poor quality drinks and service.

Chatwins are a local and premium baker, products are nicely finished but cost more than chain competitors. The cheese and onion pasties are the best I’ve tasted

No importa cuando uno visita, el personal siempre está muy ocupado limpiando y uno siente que está interrumpiendo sus tareas. Cuando lo noten y usted ha respondido a la pregunta "¿quería algo?" ! ! el personal procederá a hacer su sándwich con las manos sucias / limpias, es decir, si deciden que tienen algún producto de sándwich. He renunciado a Upton y voy a Blacon en su lugar

Me estaba quedando en la zona, así que decidí tomar un café y un pastel de té, que era muy bueno y el servicio fue rápido. También tienen una amplia selección de pasteles, además de un buen menú de mediodía. La sopa / sándwiches para 6. 50 fue un buen negocio en un día frío y húmedo.

£12+ for 2 coffees and 2 sub par limp fatty bacon rolls served with an extra helping of distain. Never again.

I popped in here at about 11 ish on Friday 1st July, and after chatting to the lovely lady behind the counter decided to have the Breakfast (Brunch) it cost a bout 5.50p and frankly I was a bit overwhelmed, 2 large sausages, 2 lovely rashers of back bacon, fried egg, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and some of there best wholewheat toast ever, fantastic quality and value. It's quiet a modern looking cafe but it has old fashioned ideas of hospitality and quality.

My wife and grandson enjoyed a very good coffee here and toasted teacakes, at very reasonable prices. So much so, we returned for lunch and enjoyed sandwiches freshly prepared from the carvery. Highly recommende.

Chatwins make the best pasties I have ever tasted, their savoury pastie is delicious and the pork and apple slice is out of this world. At christmas they also make delicious mince pies

Popped in to pick up some snack lunch time treats. The savoury roll and cheese and onion pasties were reportedly good and my pork and apple roll I ate was a true delight! Beautifully thin pastry on the custard tarts, but the pastry on the mince pie was sadly a bit on the thick side. Lovely rice crispy cakes.

i love the savoury rolls and toffee doughnuts. my daughter loves the iced finger and we often have a bacon bap on a saturday after footy :) its more expensive than the pound bakery but the quality is much better

Very modern and comfortable and staff were better than the products which were very good. Recommended for breakfast and lunch.

We popped in here a few times during our stay in Chester. We took a different option each day and enjoyed everyone of them. The service was relaxed so we didn't feel we were being pressured to free tables at anytime - no matter how busy they were.

Was just visiting Chester and saw this is Bakers & Confectioners and the window displays i.e cakes, savouries looked very tempting, so though why not. I adore Viennese's fingers, so when they have them in I couldn't resist. It was 80p for a small to medium size, but the most disappointing was the taste, not good. I'm from Wigan and we have a Bakers & Confectioners called Galloways, they are more expensive but their policy is that they only use the best ingredients. Well there is no comparison whatsoever. Chatwins Viennese's finger has hardly any taste the bit of chocolate on it below standard. my advise stay clear, find somewhere else for more money better quality....

Called in three times this week, first I called in for a sausage roll and found it very salty I think it had more the daily recommended amount. The second for a pork and Apple pastie, very was nice.

Cheap coffee which tasted burnt and greasy and tasteless sausage rolls.An unpleasant experience .it was very noisy and busy with counter customers.
