African staples with a Scottish twist. This unique spot on Leith Walk has a lot to offer: friendly people, warm atmosphere, and hearty meals that won't break the bank. We geniunely enjoyed the Rosti and Chicken Curries, before being treated to coffee and Mandazi (Kenyan Donut). Well worth a visit!

Wir waren beide zum ersten Mal kenianisch essen und waren absolut begeistert!! Freundlicher Service, extrem leckeres Essen und angemessene Preise. Ein sehr ruhiges Restaurant wo man selbst am Wochenende ohne Reservierung einen Tisch bekommt. Ich kann es nur weiterempfehlen :)

Fabulous lunch – I had the goats cheese rosti, my partner had the chicken and coconut curry, both were delicious!! We’ll definitely be back!

Had a brunch chapati with boerwors sausage and it was phenom. Depth of flavour and well made. Chapatis themselves were fantastic as well.

Hearty, nice food. Had lunch and dinner here. Rosti with goat's cheese for lunch was very good (the Rosti is effectively a pancake); the bean stew was pretty plain. We had a Village platter for dinner - that was nice as well. Good vegetarian options.

I've been eating at Knights Kitchen ever since it was a little stall in the Grassmarket. I love this place. The food is always perfect and the owner and staff are absolutely lovely. I can't wait to eat there again.

Great food, full of flavour, cooked and served with love! I have only visited the once, but will always pass when I am close by, as it is not to be missed!! Sadly not open on bank Holiday Monday, so will have to wait until my next visit up north!

First time trying Kenyan cuisine near Leith walk The rice meal is alright but the star for me is the ‘Rosti’ that is placed under the meat and vegetables. It’s crispy at the edge and soft in the middle which give me mixed texture in my mouth seasoned with the sauce on top. Worthy to try 😉

Absolute Gem of a place, the food was excellent. I was reserved when we went as it’s not something I would eat but the dishes especially the steak and veg Rosti were on another level and plenty of it. The host was very smiley and informative as well.

We came here with my husband who misses good African food and my friend who has never tried it before. We all loved the food, PROPER sized portions of the most delicious dishes, not expensive and the owner and chef were wonderful! They also did really delicious cocktails - bonus! My husband was very very upset he left his leftover food at our friend's house, but my friend said it was really good 😂 we will be back soon ❤️

Very nice atmosphere. Food is delicious and the staff is super nice. Had a smoothie that was flavourful and a hot sandwich. Portion was perfect and very well presented.

Lovely local family run cafe. Several absolutely delicious vegan options. The plantain, kale and avocado sandwich is super good and quite frankly addictive. Usually quite busy but staff always super friendly.

I enjoyed my trip to Knights Kitchen but I hadn't booked and I was lucky to get a seat. The group behind me were turned away. There's a risk that you'll see a cafe off Leith Walk that's open late and want to pop in for a snack. Knights doesn't work like that. You can get side dishes here or platters. The platters are too big for one person. Trust me; I tried. Knights Kitchen isn't an "on the way home from the pub" cafe. Knights is a "couple of friends sharing food" cafe. I really liked the African food served. I had to use Google a lot to research unfamiliar foods. In the eating; all tasty! First Tip; Knights serves cocktails! Nice ones. I don't know if cocktails suit the food ambience but they definitely fit the relax with friends and social food. You can do dessert to. No menu, not when I visited, but just a sorbet (mango and passion fruit) with ice cream (cardamom and chilli) combo. I was about to explode having tired to eat the whole platter solo but I'm glad I made room for this. Another big plus, as important as that amazing dessert combo, are the staff. Despite it being the very end of a long Friday I was met with smiles and attentive service. Second Tip; the toilet is great here. I almost didn't want to reveal that, didn't want the cafe to deal with looseekers in off the street. The toilets are clean, spacious enough to change a child and equipped to do so. Overall? Thumbs up.

Highly recommend this restaurant that we accidentally discovered upon our travels in Edinburgh if you like sampling world foods. This restaurant specialises in authentic vegetarian and non vegetarian Kenyan food that is second to none and very different to anything else you may have eaten or experienced. The atmosphere is buzzing and the staff are really friendly so definitely worth a visit. You will not be disappointed!!!

Had the chicken curry which was very tasty and I’ve not had a meatier curry. Fantastic value. 4 stars only coz it was take away and probably only so much sauce can go into the paper container.

Excellent if a little over priced

Went here on a whim as we needed a wee, and probably the best decision we made all trip. Beautiful place, beautiful staff, beautiful food. Fantastic colour choice on the walls, and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the rosti, and plantain was banging.

The vegetarian breakfast was both huge and delicious, easily the best veggie haggis I've tried and the halloumi nice and salty like it should. Super friendly staff too, thank you for creating a cool vibe!

I have eaten this venue's food at stall's at Leith Market and the new café/deli is just as good. I purchased 4 curries, chick pea and chicken and both were deli-cious! Great, friendly staff and a lovely addition to Leith!

The sweet potato rosti with goats cheese is definitely their signature dish - I find it to be the perfect meal for eating al fresco in Edinburgh as it has some refreshing flavours but still manages to be very comforting and filling - great for Scottish weather!

Had the sweet potato rosti with goats cheeze and was super delicous! Also had cauliflower bhajis, loaded plantain and cardamon doughnuts. Got so much food for what we paid, would defo recommend it for value and veggie options

Disappointed. Will not be coming back. I stopped here today (second time), as I'm quite excited to support new businesses, as I can imagine it's tough during a pandemic. Unfortunately, out of 5 people working in the cafe, 4 of them were entirely without masks. I simply cannot understand how, amidst everything going on, you can do this. It is dangerous, disrespectful, and shows a deep-seated disregard for the wellbeing of your customers and fellow human beings. I will be taking my money elsewhere. Shame on every single person in that store today, in particular the owners.

Finally my favourite stall in Leith market (and previously in grass market) now has a cafe in Leith. I absolutely love their rosti with melted goats cheese but the vegan option is delicious too. I have not tried anything on their menu yet as it seems that now they have even more options but once I do I will be back with another review because they totally deserve it. The service is always very friendly and greets me with a big smile, the food is delicious and authentic , the prices are reasonable, what else can you ask for? Congratulations on the opening of the cafe and the nice positive feedback. You totally deserve it!

I bought some food from their stall at Leith Market, it was so tasty I would definitely recommend trying their food.

Knight's Kitchen is probably my favourite stall at the weekend markets; I've always been such a fan of their vegan gambo and mandazi. Now, with their new shop in Leith (congratulations!), I'm so excited for such delicious food to be so close to home. The service is friendly and relaxed and met with smiles which always adds to the experience. My sister and I ordered chickpea curry, soup with cornbread, samosas, mandazi, and a couple of cakes, and we were raving about how satisfying it all was! I cannot emphasise enough how GOOD it tasted (but the soup in particular, oh my god, next level). It's exactly the kind of cuisine we need more of in Edinburgh's food scene - warm, soul-filling and packed with flavour and seasoning. Not only that, but the food comes at a very reasonable price! So I'm excited for what's to come and wish the team all the best.
