It was really delicious to have dinner at this non-crowded Nigerian restaurant. The very kind owner recommended the best thing, something easier, like jollow rice, but I was stubborn and wanted to try the egusi soup with fish. Slightly spicy and with a particular taste that I appreciated, together with a fufu, also a particular one. To be put back.

Decided to find the restaurant on 27 April this afternoon, had plaintain, Suya, and Jollof rice as starter, followed by Ogbono with Amala, had ginger beer for drinks. The initial waiter was new I guess as he was a bit not use to customer service, however whilst I was thinking of leaving, a gentleman man in green attire came to my rescue to take my orders, enabling me to place my order which was excellent and delivered by the chef. The food was tasty and delicious, I will make the 40 minutes drive to the restaurant for a decent meal.

Had a dreadful time there. I got the worst jollof of my life and the meat was dry af. We felt sick immediately after eating and the customer service was subpar at best, DO NOT RECOMMEND!

It started very well but ended up being one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had — The restaurant looked very cosy and clean, had a very nice playlist playing in the background and it was really quiet as my partner and I were the only customers. We shared the suya chicken wings which were delicious and a good starter. Unfortunately, our main dishes took 40+ minutes to arrive despite being « street food » and not actual main dishes. During the waiting time, the waiter did not give us any attention, we almost felt ignored and when the food arrived there were no apologies or reasons given for the delay despite being the only customers there at the time. My partner had the beef suya which was incredibly dry, the beef had the consistency of beef jerky and tasted like fried oil, and the rice was drier than any jollof he’s ever had. I had the South south Boli and Fish and it for sure went south 😅 The plantains tasted like they had been laying on my plate since the night before and I ended up puking half of the meal almost straight away (which I had never experienced before as I believe I have a very strong stomach and a large appetite). We both could not finish our plates despite the small portion size (which we were aware of). Our complaints fell on deaf ears and there was no gesture made to compensate for the terrible experience. We paid full price + the 5% service fee for a service which was honestly not provided at all. Overall extremely disappointed as this was our first restaurant experience in Edinburgh and we were really looking forward to eating some good Nigerian cuisine. It truly ruined the rest of our day as I had to go back to our accommodation to stay on the toilet all day. ☹️

We really enjoyed a meal out here! Totally different from other restaurants we go to and we had never tried Nigerian food before so loved having a new experience. It seems to be popular with Nigerians living in Edinburgh. We had no idea what anything on the menu was but our very helpful server (I think maybe the owner?) was a great help explaining it all to us. It all felt very authentic and the food was very tasty. I was worried it would be very spicy but it was just right- flavoursome and slightly spicy but not too much. I was also very grateful as a vegan that they have a large section of the menu devoted to plant based options. My husband said his goat was a little on the tough side but the chicken wings starter he enjoyed a lot. Our only other suggestion would be to have an explanation of what the dishes were on the menu but perhaps not necessary if most of the customers are Nigerian and they can always tell you if you don’t know. Recommend giving it a go if you are looking for somewhere to eat in Leith.

The cooking is good, real Nigerian taste from the soups to rice, etc. There is option for takeaway. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. There is enough space and tables for groups. The service is fast enough to meet the demands of a small number of customers at a time. I guess if they start having like 20-30 customers at a time, they will need hands. It was a good experience. My friends who went with me also had a good experience.

This was a terrible experience. For the prices, I expected a fine dining experience but it was the complete opposite. There was six of us and they directed us to a table of 4 in which they didn’t even put extra chairs and we had to arrange the table ourselves. It took an hour to get our food and even still some of it was forgotten or cold when it finally arrived. Service charge was added and mandatory despite the poor service. We had to pay extra for takeaway boxes even though the food came late. I am highly disappointed and will not be attending again. 0/10 do not recommend

A group of six of us stumbled upon Uwagboe's when we couldn't get in to another local restaurant, and by the end of our meal we were absolutely delighted that the first place had been fully booked! We ordered two big sharing platters between us (hake, turkey wings, and beef), plus Nigerian beer and palm wine, and the food, service and atmosphere were all fantastic. We were well taken care of and given excellent suggestions for food and drink. Highly recommended and we will be back again soon to explore more of their menu.

Positives are friendly staff and reasonable service. I felt food was way overpriced, £25 for a main meal which consisted of a small chicken drumstick and small thigh and some rice, I have no idea how the chicken was cooked as you couldn’t get it off the bone, these prices are for fine dining not a drumstick and thigh, never had such tough meat, also brought coleslaw instead of plantain, nobody advised this wasn’t available despite being on the menu.

Beware, if you are not into incredibly spicy food. I usually have no problem with spices, for example with Indian food, but the food here is another level altogether. Heard about Nigerian Fanta so had to try it, it's very good. Lives up to the social media hype. I had the rice and goat meat. The food was good, homely. For anyone who wonders if it'll be too spicy it's not too hot and the spice flavour is more smokey than anything. I think what drags the place down a little is the decor and atmosphere. The chairs and tables give off a high end vibe but cutlery is pub style on the table - the anagram plates have an American grill style about them and the printed laminated menus feel very informal. None of this is bad but I feel like the tone is holding this place back from reaching its full potential. Even so the food was great, the staff were friendly and I wish them the best going forward!

Unbelievably good food, was invited to the restaurant by a friend and was treated to a fantastic evening. The staff were welcoming and the service throughout the meal was second to none. The food was divine, I ordered the plant-based egusi with poundo, a side of plantain and a starter of moi moi. It was all brilliant, and as a first introduction to Nigerian food has me sold. Learning to eat with my hands was an experience, and something I really enjoyed doing. The meal arrived in good time and didn't last long once I had started. This restaurant has managed to place very highly in my recommendations of places to eat in Edinburgh and I'll endeavour to bring as many people here as I can. We tried to book a table for 7.30pm.but the booking system said earliest there was a table was 8pm. When we arrived at 8pm the restaurant was almost empty. There was a large screen playing music videos. There were about 4 or 5 staff around but despite this the service was very slow. My husband was going to order chicken party smoky jollof and was told to order beef or fish instead as the chicken is very tough! He ordered the beef which managed to be both fatty and dry. The jollof was pretty tasty, but nothing special. The fried plantain was soggy. I ordered spicy goat with jollof. I was warned about the spice, but when it arrived was disappointed by dry, and mildly spiced meat. We also ordered crispy yam which was not crispy and came with a very oily sauce. I ordered Biscoff cheesecake for dessert but was served a vanilla cheesecake with still frozen strawberries on top, which I sent back. Overall it was one of the worst meals we have had in a long time and we will not be back.
