As always, fantastic, beautifully presented food, and great service! The lunch menu is excellent value, and it provides the same quality ingredients and the same masterful preparation of the dishes as the dinner menu. Thanks to Rosario and his team for never disappointing!

Locanda De Gusti provided us with the best dining experience during an 8-day tour of Edinburgh, London, and Amsterdam. The food was simply amazing: a seafood extravaganza of shellfish and ocean fish paired with a simple linguine in butter and garlic. The cozy ambiance, the extraordinary prompt and friendly service and the food, the food, the food. Make this restaurant first on your list when visiting Edinburgh!

Staff lovely, Giovani, Sarah and Laura all very friendly and hard working, food delicious, all produce tasted fresh, I’m celiac and they catered to this for me.

A superb experience. Quite easily one of the best Italian meals I have eaten outside of Italy.

The food was delicious and the service excellent. We found it expensive. The starters were larger than is necessary. And the house wine was above our normal price range.

Very good experience.We had a mixed party of 17 which included 3 Italian colleagues - obviously going to give their opinion on Italian food outside of Italy ! Majority was ok but a couple of the dishes didn't realise expectations. Seafood platter was magnificent.

This is a real home away from home for any Italian! Great, comforting and traditional food. The atmosphere is perfect and the staff make you feel right at home and are happy to oblige any requests. I couldn't recommend this place more highly for any occasion - a casual meal, a special occasion, anything! Be sure to book ahead as they get super booked up and there aren't that many tables. I had a wonderful time in this little restaurant! The staff are all very friendly and passionate. 10 out of 10! When we arrived the waitress introduced this restaurant and mentioned that their speciality is fish and seafood and recommended the seafood platter to us right away. You can really tell their persistence on serving freshly caught seafood ingredients daily and will create a different menu everyday. The flavour of the sauce in each dish won't be stealing away the flavour of the seafood and the cooking method really wants you to taste the freshness of the ingredients. By far the Sword Fish is the most surprising!!! At the end they even put your check with white chocolate on a real polished shell, which is really cute!!! I definitely recommend it to all seafood lovers! If you want lobster, they suggest you to call them and see if they caught any on that day. So Good Luck!!

Really friendly welcome. Attentive service. A good atmosphere. A varied food choice with the option for starter or main course on a few items . Food very fresh and good balance of tastes and textures. Well presented. Nice little extras along the way. A little taster to start and a Lemoncillo and a chocolate to finish. We booked for lunch after the Murrayfield Stadium tour. Small place but service and food amazing, friendly helpful staff. Food amazing, fish second to none, wine just the best!! Would go again anytime. Quite expensive but worth every penny.

We wanted to try this restaurant after seeing 4 restaurants and without a doubt it deserves to have won. Exceptional and delicious dishes, impeccable and friendly service made us feel at home and was always present for our every need. If I were to return to Edinburgh it will be the first place I would visit!

Amazing restaurant that lives up to the hype. As an Italian, I’m always in search for authentic Italian food - Locanda De Gusti does just that. I had an incredible seafood linguine and enjoyed a wonderful service from fellow Italians like myself. The whole experience made me feel like home. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

This is like dining in someone’s home who is an expert cook! Both seekers of a fish platter in the UK & abroad but neither a big fan of pasta we were thrilled to find this place offered two! Was also an education on the different foods from different regions of Italy. Not a pizza in sight! Variety of diners but it maintained a personal feel with little tables in alcoves. Presented with cucumber, tomato & bread salad with lush olive oil. I found myself concerned I’d eat too much before “actual food” because it was so good. Chef came to inform us of fish of the day that would feature on the fish platter & was good banter. Five varieties of fish, langoustine, scallops came with med veg-a huge serving that includes wedges of potato. The crustacean in rich tomato broth Wa an enormous bowl of delight! Massive toasted slabs of bread were used to mop this up. It was so moorish that even when all the sea critters were fished out, we squashed the potatoes in to shovel more in our bellies. Each platter was around £40 each Affogato was a soothing easy sweet treat followed by a coffee. Even for this non coffee slurper, it was good! So good we enquired about it and again the staff & chef spoke with passion seeming to genuinely keep no secrets & all the more giving that homely friends feel. A cute bottle holding two shots of Limoncello surprised us after paying & was a great palate cleanser. This place is a hug on a cold January evening.

Hidden Gem, cozy place, delicious food and excellent service

Absolutely perfect food and topped with heart warming service. Totally authentic Napolitan food. As someone from Glasgow, with Napolitan in-laws, i really felt like i was back in my boyfriend’s house in Napoli. Food was incredibly tasty. Service makes you feel like family. I will forever return and recommend <3 Much love. Special thanks to Rosario chef and Raffaele our server. All staff are such special attributes to the restaurant! Cannot thank them enough

I can't even remember how many dozens of times I've eaten here in the last few years. A truly unique restaurant, which has it all: a cuisine that is both intensely personal and deeply rooted in tradition; high quality produce; a lovely and joyous and efficient service team; a generosity and a degree of flexibility that is exceedingly rare nowadays; affordable prices; and a decor that is as unique as the cuisine. I just concluded another year of eating at the Locanda: let's hope it may continue for a long time - it seems too good to be true!

No words can describe how amazing and delicious is Locanda de Gusti. A truly Italian/Neapolitan gem in Edinburgh. Winner or Quattro Ristoranti (A SKY Italian TV programme) of the most original Italian food abroad. No food adaptation and the truly Italian experience. Amazing staff and chef Rosario. If you want to eat real Italian food. This is the place. Anything from the menu it’s worth trying. I’d recommend anything with seafood as they specialise on this. But as well as the meaty dishes such as Pasta alla genovese e Orecchiette with lamb. The pasta is cooked at the moment and not pre boiled. The sauces are very rich. Just like home. Thank you for Locanda the Gusti for never disappointing and serving dishes that immerse you to the real Italian experience.

Pur avendo vinto tra 4 ristoranti italiani oltre a non esserci un menù scritto in italiano, non c'era nemmeno un piatto decente e comunque tutto molto caro. Abbiamo scelto di farci fare dei semplicissimi spaghetti al pomodoro per altro molto buoni.

We came here for a birthday meal and it was really lovely. The seafood platter and beef shin pasta were both insanely tasty and the portions were generous. Service was fab. It is a little on the pricey side but honestly worth it for the delicious food and good experience.

Recommended by a friend to visit whilst in Edinburgh on our honeymoon. The restaurant was very busy and it was great to see this for a small family business on a Tuesday evening (31st October). The staff were extremely friendly and chatty and really made our evening. We shared the lamb ragu for starter and then ordered the fish platter to share for a main course. The food was delicious and so fresh! On the platter we were served, grilled swordfish, rainbow trout, tuna steak and langoustine. It was a show piece! Really lovely gesture offering us a glass of fizz on the house to celebrate our honeymoon. Thank you so much. We will be back when we next visit Edinburgh!

Having initially planned to return to Naples before we decided to give Scotland a go, we were thrilled to discover such a highly rated Neapolitan restaurant near our accommodations. Fortunately all expectations were exceeded with the generous portions of fresh seafood on offer, which were perfectly seasoned and cooked to emphasize the natural sweetness of the shellfish and crustaceans. Our servers were also warm and accommodating. We will certainly return when we are back in Edinburgh.

Fairly good Italian place in Edinburgh. Not great though. Octopus in my salad was fairly difficult to chew. I appreciate it's not Sicily, but still. My friend had Burrata and it was fairly nice and fresh. Then we had sea food pasta, which was fairly good, but not exceptional. And I had to ask for utensils for the langoustine we've had. Beats me how did they expect us to it langoustines without those... The recommended Italian white was average.

Sweet langoustines, succulent prawns, perfectly cooked fish. The restaurant was full, from what we could hear, of mostly returning diners. I can understand why the repeat business. Great hospitality and wonderful food. Highly recommended.

Great food, staff and atmosphere in this fantastic restaurant. This is the first time I’ve been there and will definitely recommend as well as go back. We all had a wonderful frittata with mushrooms and truffle oil, all of us loved it. 2 of us had the fish platter , with the others having wonderful pasta dishes with the house wine which was excellent quality.

We had an especially good time at Locanda De Gusti. Indeed, I would potentially say this is one of my favourite Italian restaurants - certainly, when we visit Edinburgh again, we'll be returning here. As soon as we arrived we were well looked after by servers - this continued throughout the meal, they weren't obtrusive yet at the same time they always noticed when wine or water glasses were empty. We started with a couple of cocktails and were given a very tasty and fresh amuse bouche (a kind of panzanella). We followed with a starter of ravioli and some kind of gooey cheese + asparagus sandwich (I forget what it was called). Both were delicious + satisfying. The quality was spot on, but you also felt you were being well fed as well. For the main course we chose the Grigliata di Pesce - a medley of grilled fish, prawns and langoustines. Again, everything was cooked incredibly well - and the fish/seafood was perfect to follow the more rich starters. We couldn't manage a dessert, but next time we will try! A very nice touch was a shot of limoncello at the end. I'd thoroughly recommend this restaurant and am jealous of those who live in Edinburgh!

Good atmosphere, service and food

What a great meal we had here. Grilled fish platter, soft and savory ravioli and such good wine. We had the pistachio pudding and a new Italian dessert wine. Definitely 5 stars! The staff and environment added to a very nice night out.

Well where do I start from. The whole experience was like Napoli put into your plate. Food portions really really generous. Highly recommended. Tiny but a very intimate place for both couples and family. Decor as if you are sitting in your own kitchen but being served by waiting staff. Excellent place. Excellent selection of beers wines and spirits. Well done team 👏

Really nice food ( pasta and the seafood seemed fresh and high quality - matched the price ) and the staff were great. The only downside was the restaurant was a bit small.

Typical Italian Restaurant atmosphere with little space and lively conversations. The food was not as good as expected when you look at the rating and the prices, but definitely good. The grilled fish was grilled too long, but it was quite a lot of fish on the plate, so you can´t really complain.

Front of the house staff was incredible. Every dish was a plethora of flavors, what an unexpected treat in the UK. This was my favorite dinner after 18 days of travel. Perfect wine recommendation, perfect pasta. I would eat 3 meals a day here if I could.

Good service and the food is ok. The starters was quite good. The grilled fish platter tasted fine but the fish was over cooked for my taste. It was also a really big portion.

Locanda de Gusti… This is a place to definitely remember, a little piece of Italy on Edinburgh!. You will start with ‘Rafael’ , just singing around and making you feel at nonna’s home by looking after you so well. In another hand you will have ‘Sara’ bring up her lovely charisma and charm. The service it’s just fantastic and that’s one of the big reasons we keep coming back. Big mention to those staff who always perform the best service and make you feel at home! And lastly but not least, the food!, no words. Quantity, quality, and for the price, it’s really worthy. This is a place you won’t be disappointed at all!. We will definitely recommend it and we can’t even wait to come back!

Great staff with knowledge of the menu and pairings with the right drinks. Seafood was fresh and tasted amazing. The Seafood platters were a perfect choice for a couple. A bit small but with a big heart! We had a group of nine.

Since my last review, I'vehad another series of stratospheric meals at the Locanda. Last time we went for the classic pasta with "genovese" sauce, one of the most intense flavour experiences you can imagine, with the deep sweetness from the onion caramelization and umami from the meat; and a new entry, pasta with a cream of peas, superbly fresh and light and Summery, with just the right amount of spicy heat to add a dimension. And for main, another super-classic, the "mare nel piatto", full of delights from the sea, and welcome pieces of toasted bread to soak up all the goodness that remains in the soup. We also tried a delicious frittata starter (the mare nel piatto is so large that we had no space for a second main after the pastas!), coming with gazpacho, a stroke of genius by chef Rosario. To conclude, we could only fit two affogati with hazelnut ice-cream, forgoing the other tempting options. Service was led by the extraordinary duo Elena and Raffaele who so much contribute to the unique atmosphere of this place. Prices remain supremely reasonable for the quality (and quantity!), in spite of the cost rise that has affected everybody.

Local muy agradable, personal “napoletano doc” amable y simpático. Comida característica del Sur de Italia muy bien realizada pero un poco cara. Relación calidad-precio no justificada por la calidad del producto. Creo que el hecho de haber ganado el programa televisivo de Alessandro Borghese les ha hecho subir un poco el ego. Hay muchos más restaurantes en Edimburgo donde comer cocina italiana con precios más asequible..
