I've eaten here before and the food is okay at best. If I could give a minus for service and atmosphere I would. They claim to be child friendly, but clearly aren't. The staff should take a leaf out their Livingston branch, because the hospitality is much better there.

As a publican i can asure you that if you have young children don’t take them here if they can’t sit at a table I was refused service because my son was running about Absolutely shocking i use greene king pubs across Scotland and this is the first time ive ever been refused because my kids are playing/exploring Will not be returning to this venue

I don't get to visit often, but when I do I love coming here. Friendly and chatty staff. Good service. Perfect for cinema goers. If you say you're on a tight timetable, they'll do their best to accommodate it.

Wouldn't normally give a review on a place this poor but I was very disappointed with the food. Sports bar atmosphere, staff friendlyish, cleaning adequate. We came here because it was close by for a late meal. The menu looked quite good for grills and chips sort of food. I had the 'signature dish' of Jamaican chicken stew with rice and peas and a flatbread. The food had a good taste and tasted fresh but whoever prepared it must have plated it up and microwaved it so it was just about hot and the flatbread went hard as it cooled. Did mention all this to the waitress but didn't push for a refund as it was late and they seemed to know the quality was poor and didn't care. I wouldn't go there again. I wouldn't recommend any of the food even though the food itself seemed fresh, their practises are bordering on dangerous.

I come here with my friend often, it's a good spot. The food is inexpensive but good and the service is really great.

Overall I don't mind McCowan's. It offers a reasonable range of drinks and sport, and a menu which although not the best is certainly not the worst. On the whole the staff work hard to assist but I have noticed their demeanor has gotten a little more snappy recently. Personally though I can see they are very understaffed and I think they are trying their best in a stressful situation. Their chicken items are pretty good, as are chips, and the burgers could certainly be better but they are fine enough for the price. I would say that the pies and steak are something to miss, usually cold or too fatty. There is a good selection of sport but they do not have any sound on the sport and when I asked them to turn it up a little they said they can't do this which ruins the atmosphere a bit. Overall go in with low expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Popped in for a couple of drinks. It's a fairly typical and generic entertainment complex pub with basic food and drink. Not terrible, but fairly soulless, like an airport departure lounge pub. They dress it up to look like a pub, I suppose, but you know it could just as easily be a Starbucks or a chain restaurant. It was fairly quiet when I arrived. Thee bar was unattended. I waited a while until server (Lewis) finally appeared. I had a promotional code for a free pint of some new beer that had been sent to me by the brewer and the pub company (Greene King). I asked the server whether the voucher would be accepted, since the T&Cs clearly indicated that Mccowans Brewhouse was a participating outlet, and was curtly told no. I was surprised at this and offered to show the server the T&Cs on my phone, but they were not interested and simply stated that they did not accept the voucher. Fair enough. I would have stayed, but the tone and attitude of the server put me off and I went to The Diggers pub nearby, which has lots of character and much better customer service.

Decent food, not too expensive and a good place to watch the football. Recommend

Food was amazing tasting and very fast. Drinks where delivered equally as quick sadly one of our drinks order kinda got missed or something but once we asked the waitress about it she went and got them right away. Atmosphere in this place is normally pretty good but tonight being January was pretty quiet to be expected though. The soft tacos here are delicious and i recommended you go try them.

Went today for lunch with a fellow wheelchair user friend, excellent service. 1 downside no independent access, i.e doors have to be opened manually.

Me and a group of friends went here for a little Christmas gathering, a couple of my friends had been there before. Both the drinks and food was really good and at a really good price, proper pub food which we all were so excited for. They had a few festive drinks which were quite nice!

Having a toddler and a baby this place is great if you need somewhere reasonably quiet and with pram space, easy access to baby seat if required. Service is quick and friendly and food is good for the price point.

Decent pub with good pub food. The place is equipped with multiple screens, so if you want to watch something, there's a very good chance they are showing it. They even have an app for ordering, so you don't have to wait in line at the bar. It's an ideal place for watching football, especially on midweek nights, as they offer combos and food deals as well.

The food was good and the service was very fast, but I ordered a shot and it didn't match with the price on the menu. I show the guy behind the bar my receipt and the price on the menu and he only apologized about it telling me that the price was wrong without offering a refund or an alternative solution. Very disappointed about the situation especially because when my boyfriend asked about the issue they offered a refund straight away. No words about it!

Manager is a clown Attended with 10 friends Saturday afternoon, arrived at 1pm when there was a handful of people in the bar, sat upstairs and had an enjoyable afternoon where one of our party was about to be presented with a leaving gift. Few of the party gave a round of applause and guy who claimed to be the manager (bald head) ran upstairs advising it was a family bar etc and was extremely rude, confrontational and handled the situation like a child. He went face to face with one of our party and then claimed it was assault (laughable, especially when one of our party is a serving police officer). We decided to leave as we had spent 4 hours in the place spending cash and were not putting up with that from the manager. I spoke to the bar staff as we left and asked to speak to the manager but they claimed he was busy in the office, they also verified we had not caused any issues prior to the managers brainfart episode. Won't be back and I'd advise folk to avoid this place, the fountain pub over the road is far more friendly.

My boyfriend and I wandered in a couple years ago and we really enjoyed the food, drinks and staff. The playlist is always great and varied, there’s a pool table and the service is great. We’ve been coming back ever since and it’s just a lovely pub! We come here with friends whenever we can cause the prices are so reasonable, and after a couple pints we can go play laser quest or do mini golf at fountain park.

As we regularly use the Flaming Grill chain at home and had previously visited here when staying in Edinburgh on our last visit at Easter we again travelled a little out of the city to Fountain Park to have a couple of evening meals here. The food and drinks are good value and quality, and it is very easy to get to on one of the Lothian Buses from Princes Street, which drops you off just across the road from the restaurant. We were again not disappointed at all with this establishment. The staff on arrival at the bar are very welcoming (tall man on both nights sorry did not get your name) and also those serving the food (again apologies for not noting names) . It was a while since our last visit but have to say the food was served in a timely manner and was really lovely so without any hesitation we will definitely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Not been here in a while thought it might of been better but sadly no I had a chicken chilli mango burger all I can say it's the first time I have ever had a burger that's never seen a grill in its life probably microwaved and finished off in a oven absolutely nasty and ordering a pint of coke and paying for a pint of coke and getting a glass 3/4 full of flat juice Really So I think I might leave it longer this time thanks for the reminder why we haven't been Oh the two stars was for the member of staff who served us he was ok

I was at an event. I needed to have my dinner but I was told that the kitchen was closed (at 20.50 on Friday night!). The staff didn’t give me any alternatives so I sorted my problem by taking a takeaway pizza next door. The staff block me when I get back with my pizza and invite me to eat outside (outside: 6 C). Me and my husband just left.

Having been to McCowans several times I was disappointed. The manager was rude to us, they encouraged us to use the app and then prioritised people at the bar meaning we waited over an hour just for drinks and longer for food. The waiter also brought food which we hadn't ordered and it sat for 10 minutes before it went to the correct table.

7 of us met up after work to have a catch up drink and were refused entry because were a group of 7 and the bar man was working alone. Surely this shouldn’t happen on a Saturday afternoon in Edinburgh!

Took my four girls on Monday as it was requested by my daughter for her birthday meal. Staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The manager came over to wish my daughter a happy birthday and gave all the girls a wee box of mini eggs each which made them very happy and I thought it was a nice touch. Food was lovely, especially my husbands who cleared his plate of surf, Turf and Cluck. Will definitely be back.
