Shimla Palace Restaurant in Eastbourne

We really enjoyed our evening dining at Shimla and recommend it! What we liked: Food - really nice, everything from the traditionals like Chicken Tikka Masala that my wife enjoyed to a chefs menu of new dishes that I chose from. We had a couple of side dishes, the onion bhajis were so fab! Everything we had was well prepared and nicely presented in new white china dishes. Drinks - good choice, nicely served, I do love a Cobra! We liked that the coke was a bottle and not a cheap can. Decor - new, fresh, comfortable seating, spotlessly clean. Staff - Manager and his team were pleasant and personable. Happy to explain things on the menu. Location - just one block back from the promenade. We were staying at the Best Western York House and it was a short stroll. The bill - good value, we felt the food was very fairly priced. Meal for the 2 of us, with a drink each and tip was £50. Verdict - really glad we found this restaurant and recommend it. 5 stars from us! We will return next time we’re in Eastbourne.

I decided to treat my family to a good slap meal & this was right on the money! The food was sublime & every dish hit the spot!

Abdul and mohamed were so lovely. They even gave us complimentary drinks at the end. Very reasonably prices. Cant rate shimla highly enough. A must try..👍

First time at this restaurant. I would go as far as saying it’s the best Indian restaurant in Eastbourne. Old favourites on the menu as well as fantastic innovative dishes such as a divine seabass in a coconut creamy sauce. Also reasonably priced. Good service too. Highly recommended.

Visiting Eastbourne last week we decided to try Shimla. As soon as we came in the door the wine list was pushed in our faces. My friend had vegetable Masala. The only vegetables in this dish were green beans and onions. She had expected a good mixture of vegetables, such as cauliflower, peas, etc. The masala sauce was basically like a tomato puree and much too sweet. My Madras curry was just like a runny curry sauce with King Prawns in it, It tasted ok, but again there should have been something to fill the sauce out a bit. I shan't be going there again next time I visit Eastbourne.

On holiday in Eastbourne for a few days, we really fancied a decent curry and oh boy, did this deliver! The food was absolutely gorgeous, service was very friendly and efficient and the price reasonable. Well worth repeating if we return to Eastbourne, and definitely highly recommended!

Seen this restaurant several times on visits and decided to try it. What a fabulous experience. A small restaurant with excellent service. We had time to make choices without being pushed which is not always the case. Food was lovely. Sag paneer very tasty. Extremely good experience and will come in if we return to eastbourne

This restaurant was the best part of our weekend trip to the coast. The atmosphere was pleasant, the staff very friendly and attentive, and the food was superb and reasonably priced. I had the lamb tikka masala and the other members of our party had (among others) a fish dish (can't remember which one) , and we shared papadoms and garlic coriander naan; all wonderful! If you are ever in the Brigthon - Hastings area it is worth taking a detour to visit this place. One of the best Indian experiences I've had in a long time.

Had a takeaway and have to say the service was first class with delivery in less than 30 minutes. Courteous staff and a fine chicken chilli Massalla and dhansak. Will defo be reordering soon

We visited this restaurant for the first time. A really good restaurant with a wide range of Indian dishes. It’s small compared to others in Eastbourne but comfortable , attentive staff who did not rush us through our food. Would definitely recommend and return to enjoy more delicious food.

Home delivery amazing meal best Indian we’ve had in Eastbourne and we’ve tried a few. Meat really good quality, so tasty and not greasy. Good portions definitely will order from them again.

Food was nice but they left out 2 main dishes which ruined the meal. The missing dishes got re delivered but we had all shared and already eaten by the time it turn up.

We went to Shimla last week while visiting Eastbourne. The restaurant was extremely clean and the staff very friendly. The food we had was brilliant, some of the best Indian food we have ever had (and we have had a lot).

Hemos estado obteniendo nuestra comida para llevar de aquí durante años. Desafortunadamente, hoy fue lo peor que hemos tenido. El servicio siempre es bueno, pero ahí terminó hoy. Nos quedamos un artículo corto y sabía como si se hubiera agregado una olla entera de sal a los platos. ¡Incluso los poppadoms estaban salados! Como clientes habituales, nos sentimos decepcionados y encontraremos otra comida para llevar. No vale la pena volver.

Tenía una orden de entrega, llegó en 45 minutos según lo prometido. La comida era impresionante, soy un comedor de curry desde hace mucho tiempo, este fue uno de los mejores. Lamb Naga y Lamb Sagawalla también Tarka Dal. Las especias estaban bien equilibradas y las porciones eran enormes y calientes. Me quedé realmente impresionado y cuando leí cualquier comentario negativo me pregunto qué saben sobre la cocina india / bangladesí. Muy recomendable y mi casa de Curry preferida en el futuro.

Called in here after a late meeting, following advice from the former local MP! Very glad we did. Don’t be fooled by the one and two star reviews, all but two are more than two years old, and the most recent ‘one star’ is a ‘first review’ so possibly suspect.It is small with quite modern decor, staff very friendly and attentive. The pleasant surprise though was the menu which included a high proportion of unusual dishes. All three of us were very pleased with our choices. I tried the ‘Drunken Chicken’ (sambuca flamed!) because I was very intrigued and it was excellent- to be honest a little sweeter than I would really like but the clue is in the sambuca! Unusually the sauce came separately, with the result that the various ingredients kept more flavour. We will very happily return should the opportunity arise.

Went to Shimla as weather was very bad and it was within a couple hundred metres from our hotel. The food was very good , really nice naans, so much so that we had 3....will definitely be back next time we are in Eastbourne (Easter holidays)..

Visited Eastbourne and passed this restaurant whilst walking in to town. So glad we did! Didn’t book but went in early and got a table. Food was amazing, best we’ve had in a long time. Sam’s special biriani with Tarka dal and Bombay potato was fabulous, so light and tasty, and chapatis were good too. Will definitely visit again!

Lovely food and staff at Shimla. Very welcoming. We had the Saag Daal (spinich and lentils) which went very well with garlic naan. Also had the Murgh Muntaz with safron rice which was an amazing combination!

Un bel endroit pour dîner indien en Angleterre. Le décor moderne noir et blanc de la salle du restaurant est simple et de bon goût. Le service agréable et attentif. De beaux verres pour le vin. Et dans l'assiette ? Nous avons panaché entre un chicken Naga assez épicé et un chicken Pasanda plus doux. Un nan, un riz et un kulfi. OuiUne bouteille de vin et une d'eau. Le tout pour 50 £ environ.Une vraie bonne adresse et ce qui ne trompe pas: la présence d'indiens dans le restaurant. Je recommande.

Das Restaurant ist klein, aber sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Der Service ist unaufdringlich aufmerksam und höflich. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet, sowohl für das Auge als auch für den Gaumen. Und all das zu eher niedrigen Preisen.

A super evening of first class cuisine, lovely tableware and attentive service. There is a really wide choice of food all beautifully cooked and well presented. The staff were most helpful and the Chiba and glassware were first rate especially the wine glasses. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Six of us went for a meal on Saturday evening. Lovely warm welcome and the food was fabulous, one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in a long time! As this was a birthday celebration it was very good to see house champagne on the menu! Lovely champagne and at a very reasonable price for a restaurant £28! The service was excellent and the staff very attentive.

Having only been subjected to Curry House food I was wary but adventurous.

The food we had here was delicious and tasty a real treat to have authentic Indian food. The restaurant is tastefully decorated in a modern style. Staff were polite and attentive.

Shimla fue nuestro restaurante indio favorito durante años cuando visitamos Eastbourne, y hace un año cerró el restaurante, nos sentimos muy decepcionados, pero ahora estamos muy contentos de que vuelva a abrirse, estuvimos en Eastbourne este fin de semana y reservamos una mesa .

Nos topamos con esta pequeña joya de restaurante el sábado 30/3/19 mientras estábamos en un descanso de dos noches en la encantadora Eastbourne.

Comí desde aquí esta víspera por primera vez, y tengo que decir que quedé muy impresionado. La entrega fue muy rápida y la comida estuvo deliciosa, caliente y puntual. Definitivamente ordenará desde aquí de nuevo. Decidimos probar este restaurante ya que nuestros habituales han decidido imponer cargos de entrega ridículos.

Por favor, no se deje engañar. La 'comida' era diabólica; El cordero es en realidad carne de res y vino en un baño de aceite con media cebolla cortada en cuartos (cruda) y sin condimento detectable ni sabor real. El pollo tikka saagwalla fue pollo hervido con espinacas sin sabor que se le dio una palmada.

La peor comida india que he tenido. Había tanta "agua" en mi plato, escurrida en un recipiente de arroz vacío que casi lo llenaba. La carne de tikka que elegí para mi curry tenía un sabor hervido, aunque había agujeros de pincho, no había carbonillada ni colorante. Supongo que por la cantidad de agua, estos platos se congelaron previamente. El curry de mi compañero era horrible y la mayor parte de nuestra comida para llevar terminó en la papelera.

This restaurant has closed as a sit in restaurant which is a great shame as I thought it was one of the best Indian restaurants in the town. It is a take a way now still good but not as good as a sit in

I have been going to this place for years and I love it, turned up the other night to find out its takeaway only. To say I’m gutted is a understatement no other curry house close to me that is anywhere near as good, just hope they go back to a restaurant soon

Have been with multiple mates and family members and we have all always been really happy with the food we got. The take aways we have gotten have always been ready in a good time and taste fresh. Would highly recommend.

The last meal we had there was lovely. However, the staff informed us it would be the last time we would be able to eat in side,as it was changing into a TAKE AWAY ONLY.

The food at this restaurant is really good. You can actually get an edible Vindaloo here because they seem to know how to use their spices. Everything they serve up is well presented.

If i ever get a take away Indian its always from this place. Love the currys here! Enjoy it everytime i get it for me and my family. Have also eaten in the resturant which is lovely and the staff are nice and friendly.

We were introduced to Shimla Palace restaurant on our previous visit to Eastbourne in July, and we knew we wanted to return when we next visited. Another very good meal, and attentive waiters. It's a small restaurant, but well worth a visit for high quality Indian food, including some different dishes. Chicken in mango sauce was one example!

Food was really excellent, we chose all veggie dishes and weren't disappointed, everything fresh and exquisitely tasting. V friendly service

Both my husband and I entered this restaurant about 8pm. We were the only ones there, which surprised us because on other occasions we've walked past they've seemed busier. Don't recall even being greeted, just a table pointed out to us. We sat down and my husband proceeded to look at the menu, I unfortunately was having some personal issues and had to use my phone just as we sat down. I would not normally do this as I do think it's rude, but it was necessary. The waiter ignored the fact that I had not looked at the menu and proceeded to ask us what we would like to drink? . My husband responded but then I felt he badgered me into my response . I felt I was being rushed so asked for a tap water, think at this point he was not amused but then neither was I.

Best indian food we have ever had by far, and we have had a few. Chicken Sha-kooti was delicious as was the bhuna. Poppadums were thin and crispy.

The restaurant is well situated near the seafront and a number of hotels and guest houses. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive. The meal was very tasty and reasonably priced and we would definitely go again

The restaurant is small one in Seaside Eastbourne and has an extensive menu with both traditional & modern dishes The food is of a really good standard The service is really good & the prices are reasonable Definately worth a visit if in the area

The menu was nice and varied, the service was friendly and swift, and the food when it arrived was plentiful and delicious. There was a reasonable selection of wines and beers, and we enjoyed our dinner very much. We would definitely go back.

Off the beaten track but worth it in the end. Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was at the higher end of expectations. Presentation was very modern and not at all like most Indian restaurants. The food had the potential to be great but the lack of spice (not chilli heat) was disappointing.

The Shimla is a very intimate little curry house. The waiters are very friendly & attentive. Great flavours & a splendid array of dishes to try. Good sized portions. Great atmosphere. I highly recommend!
