Slattery's in Bury

Me and the wife have visited slatterys several times over the years, and the service has always been spot on, but yesterday was defiantly disappointing, we arrived on time, and were swiftly taken to our table, we had literally been sat down 60 seconds, and a waitress came over, can i take your order, so we said we had just sat down, and hadn't even had time to look through the menu,and could we have a few more mins to browse, she then went away for a mins and then returned, i ordered the Lancashire afternoon tea with a coffee, and the wife ordered the same with a pink lemonade, and tea, after around 10-15 mins our food and drinks arrived, well apart from the pink lemonade, and that was where the service ended, normally you have a server coming to ask if everything is ok, but today this was none existent, the were a lot of staff bringing food out, but none checking for issues or refills on drinks, my wife had drunk her tea and needed more tea, but due to no staff in our area i got up and went to look for a team member to ask for more tea, which took 10-15 mins to arrive, which was brought over and dumped on the table, no questions whether i required a refill, if we had finished eating, how was the food nothing, and by the time it arrived we had finished eating, as it had taken too long, after finishing our drinks, the pink lemonade still hadn't arrived by the way, we needed 4 cakes boxing up to take away, again i had to go and look for someone as still no one had been over to see us, and it wasn't just our table, other people in the area were moaning and having to go and look for staff for issues, refills the bill ETC, i was handed a box to box the cakes up myself, not a problem, but i expected the food to be taken away and brought back boxed up, again poor service, next i wanted the bill to pay, and as you can guess for a 3rd time i had to go and find someone to ask for it, but instead i just went to the till and told them which table i was at, and wanted to pay, the lady on the till asked if every thing was ok, i politely said where would you like me to start, which she seemed amazed about, i explained all of the above to her, which she removed the pink lemonade that we never received, and apologized for our very poor experience, the food here was bang average, for the price paid, and service atrocious and will not be returning.

Ate here last week with friends, 2nd time in a couple of years. Yes, everything chocolate is just SO scrummy, all the other foods are fantastic too (try the ploughman's), and yes the shop is fantastic, has you dribbling, but the best thing of the lot is their staff. Every single person so friendly, chatty, happy to advise, you really have the most fantastic bunch of people working for you, well done to every single one of them, & you keep it up-FANTASTIC!

We visited today (1st of feb) for the first time. Have followed the Instagram page for a few months and was excited to try it out. Our server was fab, and it was her birthday. The shop is amazing, we brought some chocolate and sweets home.Lovely lunch to keep us full on our drive back to Glasgow. We will definitely visit again.

Best shop in the Bury / Manchester area! If you love chocolate you must go! Prices are reasonable. Chocolate is to die for. As are the cakes actually. Also the food in the dining area is just fabulous, lots of choice, quick service. Will be back again!

Visited today with friends and we love it here! The food is amazing and the desserts are out of this world! I forgot I’d mentioned in my booking that we were there celebrating a birthday and they came out with a sparkler for her so that was a lovely surprise. I always recommend this place to my friends. I want to come back another time and attempt the chocolate challenge!!

Great food and great atmosphere. Would definitely reccomend. Nothing was too much trouble and all dietary requirements where fully met with no issues.

The cakes and chocolates are absolutely amazing, and there are some cakes available there which you can't get anywhere else in the area. The takeaway afternoon teas are also lovely. The only problem is parking. There's a very small car park which always seems to be full, and all the surrounding side roads have double yellow lines with parking wardens prowling around, because they know that people park there for Slattery's.

We went for a meal to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. Got a nice table by the window and I ordered the chocolate special afternoon tea, with coffee, the hot chocolate offered was too much chocolate even for me. My wife had the mushroom melt focaccia and my son Mexican wrap and garlic bread with cheese as a side. The food was excellent, I like chocolate but had to share the chocolate dip with marshmallows and strawberries. Got chatting with the waitress as she was clearing up and mentioned it was our anniversary week, she returned with a plate with an indoor firework in a small doughnut with congratulations written in chocolate. Nice touch. The staff were all friendly and we were able to order quickly and didn’t wait long for the food. Can highly recommend a visit.

It would have been rude not to indulge in a slice of Neapolitan cake while doing some Christmas shopping! I got an inexpensive bacon butty, too. Slattery is chocolate confectionary royalty. Simple as.

Nice place :) the service was great and the food was too! Friendly staff who actually smiled lol! They even had a little shop down stairs which was nice :) and lots of choices :). Only thing I would say is the parking isn’t the best it gets very busy. And wouldn’t take their cakes away as they weren’t nice at all from the shop… The toilets were disgusting and weren’t clean ! They definitely need to look at that … and the people that went in didn’t wash their hands (3 plus people) … what can I say 😂 ! Other than gross 🤢

Fantastic food as always. At the time of booking the table weeks ago, I merely mentioned that I wanted a table on a Saturday as close to my son's birthday as possible. Bearing in mind this was weeks in advance. The staff had not only made note it was a birthday but came to check and brought out a birthday surprise. I had not expected this at all and it was a wonderful surprise, that topped off a wonderful afternoon.

Friday 11 ish car park full. A few table spaces but soon filled up. The reason for the above is food excellent. If a cake etc is your choice then go for it . The choices are amazing. Could not fault Slattery because they have no faults. 100% joy for every taste.

Had the chocolate afternoon tea. Delicious. Staff were very busy but we're still very attentive, friendly and helpful.

I have been many many times over the years and I have never been disappointed every time you find something new and the staff couldn’t be more helpful

We visited today with my mother in law as treat for her 90th birthday. We had a variety of items, all were delicious. Our Granddaughter devoured the pasta in a very tasty tomato sauce from the children's menu. 😘👌🏼 I thoroughly enjoyed the Lancashire Afternoon tea, a firm favourite of mine. My husband loved the soup, followed by the Mexican wrap with a side of fries, & the soup, & then turkey sandwiches were thoroughly enjoyed by my Mother in law. The staff were all both friendly & efficient, & the setting is lovely too, with all the Christmas decorations up at the moment. Good value for money, & a trip to the shop for bread, cakes & chocolate on the way out was a must. We look forward to our next visit.

We come here a lot and will always return because overall the experience is great. The parking situation is terrible and stressful. The food and service is always great but there are some items that are overpriced and I just feel unnecessary. £2.95 for a can of fizzy drink is just pushing it a little. Yes you do expect to pay more at Slatterys but a few bits are over the top. We’ll be back though!

As ever, great food, perfect poached eggs. Only disappointment was the decaf coffee, tastes very bland, please find a better one.

The chocolate is amazing, the main meals were really good. Oddly, apart from the chocolate, the puddings are just good.

Food as good as always, but we were seated right behind the grand piano, which is a lovely thing but boy it was so loud sat right next to it that it spoiled our conversations and we found ourselves shouting across the table. One of our party got a curt reply from the waitress when asking why her ice cream was taking so long to arrive.

Had a gorgeous belated birthday afternoon tea with my son and daughter in law last weekend. It's a lovely place to visit, the afternoon tea was lovely and fresh. Staff are very friendly and can't do enough to assist. The shop is lovely, we brought home a black forest gateau and it tasted divine.

Lovely afternoon tea with excellent service. Can't fault anything that took place in the place. Only down side is parking at the location. Car park was full, but the side roads were packed as well. Didn't spoil the occasion though that was very enjoyable.

Slattery's never ceases to amaze. I visit often and today went to make a cake order as well as buying some of the amazing produce. I was lucky enough to be helped by a lovely assistant called Olivia who was so polite, courteous and attentive to detail. She offered advice answered lots of questions and was really friendly the whole time. Fabulous experience as always.

We went here yesterday for an Afternoon Tea for my mums Birthday. The staff are lovely so nice and pleasant they was also there if anything else was needed really good service. If you love chocolate, cake, bread, baking and great gift ideas, you'll love Slatterys. We took afternoon tea there too and it was delicious. Served by very friendly staff. I can recommend the experience as one of my favourite places to go 😊

Always worth a visit! We’ve enjoyed some amazing personalised cakes over the years that are always outstanding, and the choice of goodies on offer in the shop is incredible! The cafe/restaurant is just as enjoyable - they keep some tables back for walk-ins but would advise booking if looking to sit down between 12-3pm. The car park is extremely small for the size of the establishment but that shouldn’t put you off what’s waiting at Slattery’s!

Great place for breakfast good service, excellent food and then the lovely shop. Cakes to die for. Disabled car park space was handy

Parking is rubbish because it's so busy but the place looks amazing. Shame the staff were so rude. Tried to order chocolates at the counter and the staff member completely ignored and my disabled child to talk to a couple who didn't even want to purchase something. We were ignored for several minutes, he wouldn't even look at us, after which we just walked away and my son was really disappointed as he wanted some of the cat chocolates. Never had this issue before and honestly was quite shocked by the disrespect.

An abolute heaven for all things sweet and snacky. If you haven't been there, you should go if only to treat your sweet tooth and enjoy your dentist! Lol!. They have a huge well stocked shop for quick takeaway of your sweet and savoury treats but there's also a dining room where we treated ourselves to lattes and coffees which comes in a tall coffee container with hot milk at the side. Must say l prefer strong coffee and what l got was a weak pot. For sure will request a stronger pot from the outset to enjoy even more than l did earlier this afternoon with a great investment adviser. Will be back soon!

Staff very pleasant, polite and helpful. Very small car park, be prepared to find alternative parking. A couple of disabled spaces. You have to book in advance and pay £5 per person deposit. It's quite expensive but the food is very good! Shop on ground floor (a little untidy and selling biscuits with "short sell by date" which actually expired last month! Restaurant is on 1st floor, lift available. The restaurant floor needed sweeping and there were cobwebs on the light fittings. Toilets were clean apart from the taps, filthy where tap meets the wash basin (see pictures) and the taps only trickle. There's a large window where you can watch the kitchen staff at work. Plenty of seating and occasional live piano music.

Two underwhelming cakes. I purchased the Biscoff cheesecake and a slice of Salted caramel cake. The biscoff base was quite nice but the cheese was extremely bland, gelatinous and tasteless. I wondered if cheese is even used in the recipe. The salted caramel cake was even more disappointing. The cake tasted only of sugar and was much too sweet. I doubt I’ll visit this place again.

When will this bubble burst? Here today as its my Mother's birthday so no choice. £11 for a piece of cheese on toast. Abysmal.

I really like the idea of Slattery’s and really look forward to going. But the reality is horrible too tarte sort of lumpy tomato soup with a small bun. The desserts I had were lovely, and the staff nice, but you’re paying more for the experience than the actual food if that makes sense.

Amazing been coming for cake since a child .. and food is obviously amazing but today it was the staff that made my day what a lovely friendly bunch of people .. well done guys you've got this so correct love everything

Oh my goodness, the food here is beautiful! Me and my Husband thought we would try the 'Chocolate Challenge', wow, it was absolutely delicious but way too much for me, but my Husband actually completed it! Over 10,000 people have tried, only around 589 have achieved, so if you have a sweet tooth, definitely go and see what it's all about. The cake was stunning, as was the ice cream and the chocolate cups. My daughter had the children's afternoon tea, it was so cute! She loved it! We will definitely be back again, possibly for the Challenge but only because it's good to sample a bit of everything, but I may share this time instead! 😁 I would've given 5 stars and although the staff were lovely, service was very slow. Car park is only very small just as a heads up to new visitors too, although I think there may be another car park just across the road.

A friend of ours very generously bought us a Slatterys voucher, so after having to wait some weeks in order to secure a slot and never ventured there before, the day arrived. My wife and I made are way upstairs to the restaurant and shown to our table. Midday, brunch, lunch, whatever......it was totally, "hammered !" Having been presented with menus and somewhat uninspired, we looked at each other and decided, this was truly, as noisy as a school canteen and, "not for us !". We spent the voucher in the shop downstairs.

Went here with vouchers for afternoon tea. Firstly the shop downstairs is very stylish and well presented. The portioned cakes at £2.95 per slice were tasteless and dry. Looking at the ingredients they are obviously cake mixes and not ‘real’ cakes as one would expect. The Autimn cake needed more spices, the kinder bueno cake was sweet but not chocolate, the passion fruit cake had no passionfruit flavour, the raspberry and lemon was also lacking. Very disappointing. As for our lunch I had a goats cheese crostini salad. A very thin & insubstantial slice of bread topped with a large disc of goats cheese ( too much for the amount of bread) surrounded by an unimaginative ‘salad’ of chopped iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, halved cherry tomatoes, sliced red onion and grated carrot. Of all the things that could have been included - really where is the imagination? The afternoon tea was similarly underwhelming with watery coffee that had to be replaced. The staff are very helpful and polite- no complaints about them- but food wise I will not be returning. I think this place is trading off their self proclaimed good marketing skills and not actually on current quality, innovation, imagination or class.

Wonderful afternoon tea with plenty to eat - (had to take some home in a box!). All the staff were very attentive and the service unrushed.

When did, where is my aunt for my birthday.1st a 40 minute. Wait so we decided to take things to go to that was a mistake! Cheesecake that has no taste of cheese, and a nasty sugary raspberry jelly topping. Carrot cake that was dry and sugary, no real cream cheese icing despite what’s advertised. And finally who makes a run all with a pink interior and no taste of rum (how do you mess up a traditional recipe)! .Complete rubbish and a huge disappointment. Don’t waste your time, M &S bakery far better.

I always buy my cakes from here for every occasion. Always great and professional service with a lively vibe. The staff here are lovely always polite and smiling. Olivia is lovely, she’s always willing to help and is very courteous and nice. Every time I have been served by her, she has always been very helpful and professional. Lisa is also lovely.🖤

We came here as my partner is a big chocolate fan, we organized a trip to Manchester around Slattery. We got the tramline from Piccadilly here so we didn't have any issues with parking. It's about a 5 min walk from the station so not far at all. We loved walking around the shop downstairs but we really enjoyed our meal here. We started with a sandwich each and then had desserts, all of which were delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and the atmosphere was great with the piano playing in the background. Definitely worth the visit

The chocolates are the best thing I’ve ever eaten

The food is 5 stars all day long but there are a couple of issues here; the parking is simply inadequate for the size of the establishment and it is vital to organise your visit and book in advance. "walk in" is possible but you are likely to be waiting a long time. We had a beautiful home made apple pie with custard and potato cakes. The 'small' coffee pot was enormous and very good quality.

It's an experience visiting Slatterys. Walking through the shop and seeing the amazing cakes and chocolate, and going up to the dining area for food. Unfortunately I avoided food to do the Chocolate Challenge, and failed miserably. The chocolate is so delicious but so rich...

I visited on Saturday 30th July and purchased 3 slices of cake from the refrigerated cabinet. Coffee and walnut cake was apparently okay ( or perhaps my guest was too polite to say otherwise). The victoria sponge however was truly awful, it tasted like the cheapest of dry supermarket cakes and contained a vile cream filling instead of fresh cream. To have paid nearly £3 for each slice makes me mad. The ingredients list on the sticker makes for interesting reading too, picture attached. Horrifying. Needless to say, I'll not be back.

Very disappointed with breakfast today , not been since before lockdown and its changed dramatically. Tasteless potato cakes, used to use greenhalghes, generic sliced bread , used to be fresh cut bread, tinned mushrooms and tasteless sausage . Sorry to say I wouldn't return ,

I found it very expensive for what it was, found the food very salty, the hot chocolate was beautiful and the staff were really nice, quite nice couple of hours with family

I have been twice now for last minute birthday cakes and each time they didn’t disappoint. I called into the shop at 3:07pm on Saturday to see if I could get a last minute cake. They’re cut off is 3pm as they close at 5 and are then shut for two days. The kitchen agreed to help. I was expecting something very basic but was asked what my son was into and they would do something along those lines, with a choice of sponge and colour theme. Within half an hour I had a cake which my son was thrilled with. Even though it wasn’t his birthday until the Monday the cake was still the freshest Iv ever had. I don’t normally write reviews but each time Iv been the customer service has been fantastic and the price really reasonable. Would highly recommend.

We rang and they were booked up at the time we were thinking. We were reassured we would get a table and wouldn't have to wait long. The buzzer system meant we could sit and chat. It was busy yet all the staff were friendly,...

Ordered a birthday cake for my son, I have had all my special celebration cakes made here and never been disappointed. Fabulous cake and amazing decoration.

Visited the shop to purchase a gift. Wonderful selection and a variety of unique gift ideas. Hope to return soon for lunch in the dining room.

Food fantastic, but the last 3 times I have been, you get the feeling of being on a conveyer belt and they want you out ASAP. If you're meeting with a friend you've not seen for a while, not the ideal place to relax.

I just don't rate the cakes at Slattery's at all. They're just sweet, that seems to be the only flavour that comes through - regardless of what you go for. The mandarin fondant dark chocolates were very nice but overall I was underwhelmed by everything we bought (cherry fondant chocolates, a Víctoria sponge cake, chocolate mint cake and a coffee and walnut cake). All just lacking in any actual flavour. It's a shame because the place itself has a magical feel to it.

have just bought 3 cakes . 2 florentines. 1 ginger surprise. these were the worst cakes i have ever had the missfortune to buy . the additives and e numbers plus loads of sugar were disgusting . no wonder we are bringing up a nation of obese peaple

An amazing chocolate shop. Go and look at the cakes! There’s a large variety of treats from pastries to crafted chocolate to vegan sweets. A must-visit.

It can be really hard to find somewhere to park. They have a vast array of cakes and bread, although more expensive than any supermarket the cakes are worth it. Had afternoon tea which l didn't think was particularly good value and wouldn't have there again. Would just have something off the normal menu. I'm not usually a big eater but had to get a cheese and onion roll on the way home!

The service here is always spot on, the staff are absolutely lovely. The cheese and onion pie is delicious and my little girl loved her children's afternoon tea on our most recent visit.

We come here quite often and always have excellent service and gorgeous food. It was nice to see a new face this morning. It was a young man. He welcomed us with a smile and again, contributed to fabulous service and made our experience positive. Thank you to all the staff as always for providing fantasist service with a friendly atmosphere and fabulous food!

We had a lovely breakfast and the food was hot, we had cakes they were just delicious. The staff were polite and very friendly.

Refined menu for selective people, but don't expect a lot,( I had afternoon tea),it's just enough and you can box what you can't eat to take home🙂

Parking is a problem but once we had that boxed away our experience was very good, service was prompt, food was good ,staff very nice, its an amazing place with lots of history , have wanted to go for years, won't be our last trip, caution! Book well in advance online and confirm your booking when they contact you otherwise you could....lose your table..just saying, enjoy👍👍

First time at slatterys today 7th June 2023. Food very good, served by a jolly Dylan he’s a massive credit to your team. He asked us how everything was and got us more drinks. We was absolutely stuffed by the end the portions are huge...

My son is special needs (I did not state this) once he has his mind fixated on something we try and make it happen in order to help him .. this morning he woke up and decided he wanted a cake on his stitch plate .. we live just off ringley road and I knew he would want fruit so I thought I would try slatterys .. I bought him all the cakes he wanted but did not realise you could not eat the cakes you bought down stairs, upstairs … so I asked, they said they are booked well in advance for weeks ahead but just pop up and try , to try and help my son .. it was very busy but I explained our predicament without mentioning my son was special needs.. the lovey lady and gent saw him and his little stitch plate and cutlery .. and my gosh they were so lovely to him they sat him down and we bought a slice of carrot cake and they took his stitch plate and came back wit the carrot cake placed on it and he had milk and they gave him chocolate pieces and he said to me “mummy my teeth are doing this” and I was so happy and said baby they’re smiling 🥹… your staff are credit and so is the customer service throughout the building thank you for making my 4 year olds day perfect we will visit regularly now ❤️

I really don't understand the hype about this place. The 1 star is for the aesthetics and the 2nd star is for the customer service. However, the desserts and milk hot chocolate were sickly sweet. The cakes were stale and the fudge cake had no flavour of real chocolate. It was obvious that cocoa powder was used - that was dry as well. For a chocolatier, that's very disappointing. I think I will just stick to making my own chocolate experiences, as at least I know it will taste good.

Took my mum here for her birthday. Fantastic food but the chocolate dessert was very rich, so I took it home and ate it a bit at a time! It was quite busy as it was Saturday, so the small car park was full but we managed to catch someone leaving. There is an overflow car park which is helpful. Definitely recommend booking if you're visiting on a weekend
