Fantastic fish and chips from this restaurant, the chips were easily some of the best I have ever had and portions are very generous for the price.

A very cosy place, with delicious and freshly made food. Very friendly staff that understands the food restrictions (allergies)

Dog friendly pub. Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions as a celiac (dedicated fryer for gluten-free food). Staff was friendly and professional. Great atmosphere, will definitely visit again.

Didn't eat here, but the food I did see looked great. Not entirely sure of the pub dynamics of Matlock Bath, but I reckon you'll be hard pushed to find a better establishment in town. Great place to catch a bit of live music. Staff are on point, and there's a decent selection of beers.

Only two out of four real ales on,the food was ok but a bit dear.

Amazing Sunday roast!! So much choice and food definitely worth the money. All food was cooked amazing and because of the choice I was able to try new sides which I thought was great. Eating upstairs in the big room was lovely. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit

Fantastic place and was very relaxing listening to water and watching fish in the pond. Staff were very friendly and welcoming too. I found the pub to be very clean.

Fantastic food, very impressed! On a quiet Monday evening we thought we'd have a drive out to Matlock Bath. A last minute decision was to visit the Fishpond for food. I visited the Fish Pond recently whilst on a walk through the area. We stopped in and had a pint and some sides. Loaded fries and Nachos were both amazing and very good selection of fine ales. I was so impressed that I brought a large party here to check out the main menu. We went for not only the carvery but also items from the menu including Pizza, Burgers and again those loaded sides. All members of the party were impressed by the offerings. I went for the Sunday roast, and I can only say that is one of the nicest I have had anywhere recently. The meat selection was particularly impressive, and the offering of multiple different cooks on the beef was a welcome change from a lot of places, normally your option is well done or leave it. Not here. Brilliant all round and very happy. I shall be coming back regularly from now on. Great effort to the entire team, who were all very helpful, one Girl in particular stuck out for us, Sorry, I did not catch her name, but she was originally from California from what she told us, so it should be easy to identify her. She went the extra mile to ensure our party had everything we needed and was always happy and smiling through all of our requests.

Boxing day Table for Six, The Carvery simple was the very best that's what the whole family said. a wide range of choices for mains with all the trimmings to go with it, amazing at a very reasonable price you simple could not fault it and I have now booked again for Mothering Sunday 10th March but will more than likely return before then, first class and a credit to all! Thank You from all six of us.

Had to send 2 pizzas back from group under cooked.Got refund straight away in there defence. Atmosphere was OK for a New year's eve but probably wouldn't do it again as service was quite slow and more aimed at regulars.Theres not much round it so not a pub crawl area new years eve.

Popped in here for a bite to eat, and a pint while staying at the Hodgkinson hotel down the road. The staff member was very welcoming and keen to let me try a taste of the several ales available before making my selection. After being assured the fish is brought in fresh every day, rather than frozen, I ordered some fish and chips which was presented well, served courteously and was very tasty. Glad I popped in!

Visited on my son and daughters birthday. There were 7 adults and a child. There was a very good choice of food. Couldn't fault the food. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place and would definitely visit if that way again.

Tried this place today as our usual place wasn’t doing a carvery today. They managed to squeeze us in on the door. I’d heard good things about it but it’s abit of a travel. Blown away of the amount of meat available and the upstairs area was a nice ambience. Cannot fault the carvery or service. Normally wherever you go for carvery something lets it down. But every item was spot on. The mash was superb. Will return and make sure I book!

A great spot. The service is friendly but very ‘hands-off’; you’re very much left to your own devices and order at the bar. This suited us perfectly! Also, they had very yummy gluten free options, which my mum really appreciated. Lovely atmosphere, very cosy, excellent food: what more could anyone ask for?

Nice cosy pub, with good food. We had Vegan burgers and hand cut fries which were literally the best fries I'd eaten all year - absolutely perfect, fresh and tasty! Log burner fire adds to the cosy atmosphere, and would love to visit when they have live music on (we visited on a Sunday afternoon!) Although we didn't have it, the carvery looked great and the portions of food for the money is great, and not long wait times. Would visit again when in Matlock Bath

Best carvery I’ve ever been to. Proper home cooked food. Such wonderful flavours. The lamb in particular was amazing.

We went 10/12/23, table of 9 for carvery (on my own recommendation). Not enough room at tables as packed too many in. So makes uncomfortable dining before start. Been a fair few times before but won't again: Nut roast is no longer a nut roast it is overcooked stuffling with currents in and I actually did not find any nuts at all. I didn't eat it as was so dry. Service no one comes to ask if food is okay or anything. Plenty of staff however all stand behind the bar. Kids mini fish was decent and good value. Husband liked meat however we both agreed veg pretty luke warm, however roast pots and parsnips very nice.

Seen nice pictures etc online so we thought we’d go and try it. Lovely fires give a nice atmosphere BUT the bar maid was curt and not friendly. We were given menus but they were really filthy so completely put me off eating there. Cider selection was good though Shane about the service

We booked in for a Sunday carvery this time,after the Christmas Market in matlock. Very warm and friendly as always. Went upstairs to the ballroom to be seated and went to get food from the carvery. Elmer was on top form and the food was beautiful. Best red cabbage ive ever had and he kindly wrote down the recipe for us. Such a great guy. So much choice and the meat was perfect. This is my favourite pub and I always look forward to my matlock bath trips because of this place. Great selection at the bar, food is always good and service is pleasant.

We had lunch on saturday, food was amazing. Went back for a carvery on the sunday, its the best carvery you will ever taste! We asked to talk to the chef because you could tell the food was made with love, cooked to perfection! We were advised to book if there is a lot of you as it gets really busy. A round of drinks was very reasonable, also very doggy friendly. Di, Dawn and family.

Nothing really impressive or striking about this pub. Neither friendly, or unfriendly, simply and plainly average. Nothing wowed me, however they did have a nice fire and a nice beer garden.

Tasty home cooked food and a great selection of beers. Had pizza and home made soup the first night, which was so good we decided to go back again the next evening. The pie and Asian bowl were just as good. Good value and well worth a visit.

Will not be returning! Myself and my family felt very uncomfortable by a rude member of staff staring at myself and laughing as i walked by in the upstairs area (young girl with dark hair tied back). The carvery was also very bland and had no taste. Very expensive too definitely not worth the money so don’t waste your time.

Carvery is up stairs not very practical when your sat down stairs. No heating on, on a cold November day. Plenty of food but only warm, not hot. Not cooked to my taste. Disappointed.

Love this place and it's dog friendly but on this occasion they were not serving food which we were disappointed by as every time we go we have their home made pizzas which are fantastic

The best carvery I've ever eaten. Meat is cooked to perfection by a clearly passionate chef. Sides were beautiful including an epic cauli cheese and red cabbage. Just wish I lived closer to visit weekly!

This is now officially my favourite pub in the world, lovely range of irresistible real ales, great service, and the proper pub grub is to die for, if you are in Matlock Bath - ignore the others and spend an afternoon here, you won’t regret it, oh, and in the winter, well stocked wood fires are burning.

We booked a meal for a large group of us as we were staying locally. The service from Liley, Sharon and the team was superb from start to finish, communication by email prompt and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. When we arrived we found we had been allocated a private dining room which was perfect for our needs. Everyone was very happy with their food and I would thoroughly recommend the Fishpond for the quality of their food and service. Thank you

Decided to pay The Fishpond a visit this evening, booked in for 7:30 and arrived a little prior to this booking. Was met with a team of friendly team on the bar and a drinks order swiftly followed, reasonably priced drinks (especially as they could easily price gorge due to the location). We were then seated in a cosy area, looking through the menu, it was hard to choose not knowing what this kind of pub caters for, it is a cheap and poor quality venue or a price point low with high quality food offering. Safe to say it’s the latter of those, we chose burgers, can’t go wrong with a burger. We are restauranteurs and this was one of the tastiest, freshly grilled, well seasoned burgers we have had. Skin on fries simple & well cooked, paired perfectly with a coleslaw on the side. Well done, we certainly will be back 😄😄😄

Me and daughter come here for food just over a week ago while staying in matlock for the night , the food is truly amazing!! So fresh and tasty and portion size is fab too we can't wait to come back very soon... the staff are very welcoming and friendly also thank you we had a lovely evening :)

Went for my birthday to have a quick lunch and it was absolutely amazing, we had the loaded tandoori fries and the pie of the day, both were so tasty and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back!

Simply amazing place in the town. Highly recommended. Very cosy, old school, laid back place. The vibe inside is good. Friendly locals. Quite a list of food and drinks selection. I am surprised with their vegetarian options as well. Very pleased with their vegetarian menu. We ordered loaded fries, that was indeed loaded. Very generous portions. Honestly, these days it is a rarity to see their portion size. Service is good. Can easily accommodate large groups and pets. Oh boy, these locals have amazing dogs

Went here for something to eat while walking around Matlock Baths. The food was really good if you have a big appetite try the proper chips wow they were amazing.

Food was fair. had haddock and chips. peas served in a metal container with the so called chips in a mini saucepan. everything served on a flat wood chopping board. What ever happened to a plate. Fish was good after you got through the poor batter. could not eat peas because of container. Did not like chips at all. Will not be back. Should have gone to fish and chips next door. Far to expensive.

Just been for lunch for my birthday and ordered the haddock. Sorry but fresh fish doesn’t smell of fish. Had to send it back. They tried to say Haddock does have a smell to which I replied’ my fella had the same and his was fine’ very disappointing. Although the staff handled it well and refunded me straight away.

We just popped in for a drink at lunchtime. It was a nice sunny day and if we hadn't been driving I dare say we could have happily stayed all afternoon and possibly ended up out out instead of just out! 🤪 Huge pub but badly designed as its very narrow around the bar area and everyone gets in the way of everybody else. Friendly enough staff, decent beer selection and a pleasant beer garden with a waterfall!

Great looking pub and we called in for a drink, late afternoon, to view the menu. Plenty of vegetarian options for my other half. Quite a few pump clips were turned around, I can only presume these were the traditional ales as only craft beer was available. We ordered cider that had to be poured in the cellar, I felt for the people who had to wait whilst this was done. Very good choice of food. I had the fish and chips, which was very good, except the mushy peas came in a mini ramekin that was the same size as the one for the tartare sauce! The Buddha bowl was vast and the extra halloumi we ordered was not required, our mistake. Unfortunately you have to pay as you go along, at the time of ordering, at the bar or at your table. I am presuming that the pub has been the victim of crime, however from where we were sat, we could hear this being explained over and over so I do think it would be a good idea to put a notice on the bar. I could see the manager wasn't enjoying repeating it. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We arrived on Friday night to a busy pub with the evening's band setting up. Interesting menu and great food. We didn't stop for the band as we were tired, but if we were in the area we would definitely go back.

An afternoon in Matlock Bath and having walked past, we booked a table for an early dinner. It was so busy when we arrived, and they had a wedding on - but our table was ready, and we were g waiting long to order. Our food arrived in good time - and it was really good. The cheese on the kids Mac n cheese was a little strong for my daughter - so we basically all shared that, onion rings, a burger and the gammon. And everything was finished!

Amazing food, service and prices. Family friendly. Very clean toilets. Definitely worth a visit. Car park opposite too.
