Ordered to collect, not long to wait only 20 minutes from putting order in. Food was delicious and fresh. The staff were really lovely and helpful too. Would order again without hesitation!

Booked a table with space for a pram. We turned up on time and were put in a side room; I don’t think the person taking the booking had read the request. Waited for 20 minutes without any visit from staff to give us menus or take a drinks order. Walked out and won’t be going back.

I’ve been going to this Indian restaurant for the last 2-3 years.... never disappointed, I’ve tried most locally and this is certainly the best. I would encourage anyone looking for great quality food, prepared and cooked with care to go and see Raj!!! FANTASTIC!!!

Amazing Indian, food is always served with amazing presentation, flavour is out of this world. The atmosphere created there by Raj and his team makes you feel so special. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions we cannot visit the restaurant, but thank goodness The Lion offer the same 5* food through the takeaway service. See you soon

Quite simply the best Indian meal we’ve had in years.Staff at The Lion are a delight, bright, cheerful and enthusiastic. Everything from the poppadoms and chutneys, the chicken, beef, lamb curries, prawn puri starters through to the vegetable Bhuna are always outstanding. We are in Covid times, and the effort all the staff go to to ensure you feel safe is remarkable. Make no mistake the chefs in the kitchen serve up a fantastic meal, stunning from start to finish and great value for money too. There is as much care taken in preparing the takeaways too, always presented well, and piping hot. Thanks Raj and the rest of the team at The Lion, can’t wait to visit the restaurant again when we can.

The food at the Lion Inn is excellent. It's very delicious and absolutely mouth-watering and the Lion Inn is a great find! My personal favourites are Monkfish Tikka as a starter and their signature Lamb Tawa with Naan Bread are second to none. And the service is very friendly. Highly recommended!

The Lion Inn are providing an excellent takeaway service at the moment, due the current situation. Had a delicious meal on Thursday, all so fresh, hot and packed perfectly for taking home. We are regular users of the restaurant where the staff are fab and the food is always first class but as they are not able to open at the moment we are really pleased to be able to get a takeaway. We were so excited to have a takeaway from The Lion - we have missed it so much during lockdown! The food was amazing (as it always is) and the set up for collecting takeaways is fantastic. The team have made sure every safety precaution is in place. Our food was gorgeous and we’re so pleased we can get a takeaway from our favourite restaurant again. We have been regulars at Raj’s restaurant for 20 years. Today was very special because he has only just reopened after the Covid lockdown. So we could have a takeaway- the first food cooked by someone else since March 14. It was brilliant ... ‘just so delicious’ said Juliet, my wife. Raj and Nisa have organised collection time slots and both are wearing PPE. It is SO GOOD to taste their food again after so long. Just perfect. It will be a memorable meal for all sorts of reasons!! Readers please note... the TripAdvisor list of dishes options did not include any that we had: we thoroughly enjoyed Lamb Tawa, Prawn Sagwala, Saag Chana and mushroom rice.

The Lion King of Curries with so much on the menu always it difficult to find what shall I have tonight. But when I was having trouble swallowing because of Radiotherapy, Raj had the Chef shred the Lamb for me. Which was much appreciated.

I try to make my reviews objective, informative and balanced however best I can do here is say everything about our experience at The Lion Inn was "pretty good". However I thought the portion sizes were a little small for the price. In my opinion there are better Indian Restaurants in the Wellington area. Nothing about the experience left me excited.

Ordered a take away last week only take 30 minutes to cook. Had Chicken Bhuna, Madras and a few starters. Lovely fresh food. The best in the area.

While visiting the area and had this pub recommended, we were disappointed. We ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, 2 Pilau rice and a plain Naan bread with a poppadom to start. We had quite a wait for our food and overheard the owner apologise to another table that they had received a butter chicken instead of a Passanda! Our ponder was 'what would we receive?' When our food arrived it was clear that ours was neither a Tikka Masala or a Butter Chicken. My husband and I actually swopped the dishes between ourselves as the dish I was told was butter chicken was too spicy for me. Never in all the years of eating Indian food have I had a spicy butter chicken or my husband a creamy tikka. The owner told us every restaurant is different in how they cook. No, there is a standard recipe which customers become used to. The food was good but a shame that it wasn't what we expected.We had a long unattended wait after our main course where we were not offered any more drinks or dessert. I got the menu myself and called the owner over to take our order. This was very disappointing too. We ordered a kulfi and a gulab jamun. The portions of desserts were very small for the price.

it was the first full day of our holiday and no-one fancied cooking, so we decided to try this very local Indian take-away. It's literally a 5 minute walk from our holiday cottage so was perfectly placed....and the food was perfect. Incredibly tasty dahl and paneer dishes, fabulous fish curry with its texture matching, really good butter chicken and a delicious vegetable sagwalla. All day today we've been talking about how super the meal was and we are going to visit again later in the week and eat-in that time :)

Four of us went to the restaurant after playing golf at Hawkstone.I am not from the area but have been previously.The food was excellent - as good a curry as I have had in years - and I am an every week man.The Nan bread was perfectly made - not always the case in many restaurants.Raj and his wife are very nice people and the service is excellent.Luckily I have reason to return this Saturday.I'm looking forward to it !!!

Visited last Saturday with 2 friends for evening meal. Very busy evening. We had to wait a little longer than usual for our food but well worth the wait. Food was exemplary. The proprietor was on a rare holiday but his sons And staff did an excellent job in his absence. This is our favourite Indian restaurant in our area. We will be going back. Any lamb dish highly recommended.

Myself and my family visited the Lion Inn again for a few drinks and a meal and the food, atmosphere and service was simply in a league of its own. Already looking forward for our next visit!!

I have frequented this restaurant on a weekly basis for the last year. This is a local, long established family business who provide the highest quality of customer service to compliment exceptional Indian cuisine.

Ate here New Year’s Eve and it was buzzing. The staff were extremely busy but managed to keep everyone happy, well done. Service the same, excellent. The popadums were fresh, the curry was so tasty and best of all the nan breads were bought out hot and fresh. Can’t wait to return!

We have used The Lion several times over the past year for take always/eating in and always had a lovely meal. However on New Years Eve, we had an awful experience. I called the day prior to see if I could book a table for 6 people, understandable the venue was fully booked. I asked if the service for take away was still available, which I was informed it would be but could be up to 1 hours wait. Again, totally understandable. On New Years Eve I called through the take away order being told it would be 1 hours wait, totally acceptable due to the busy time of the year. My husband and 2 of our friends went to collect the order after 1 hour, to be told it wasn’t quite ready and wouldn’t be to long but if they would like a drink whilst they are waiting. They took up this offer understanding it would be a gesture of goodwill like most establishments we have visited in the past when your order isn’t ready. After 1 hours and 20 minutes wait, my husband asked how much longer the order would be, to be told it was just coming. 1 hour 40 later we finally recieved the take away along with £10.50 charge for the drinks. When my husband explained 1 hour 40 minutes was not acceptable and asked why we had been charged of drinks, the land lady told her colleague to ignore my husband and if we didn’t want the food it could be left?? In my view, this is not an acceptable level of customer service when you have been waiting for 1 hour and 40 minutes whether you are extremely busy or not. There are ways and means of talking to people and this is not. When we finally received the takeaway, we had 2 rices missing from the order, I called to explain this had been missed to be told we could be credited next time we had a take away with The Lion, not acceptable with 6 people to feed and 1 rice? I explained I needed the rice so would collect it myself as no delivery option was mentioned for the inconvieance. I did speak to the waiter on collection, to say how upset my husband was from the land lady’s comment and for the time that we had waited. For that we had 1 free rice. I don’t really feel that 1 free rice will make us return again. A huge shame as I am all for supporting small local businesses.

Visited with a large group of 13 and had a tremendous meal and excellent service. My wife is not a huge lover of Indian food so any visit to a curry house is a treat for me. Even she thoroughly enjoyed her meal and remarked it was "probably the best curry" she has ever had.

Very easy to find. Good car parking area. Very clean with Staff attention being excellent. Service and food very good. Price range acceptable for the menu available. We will certainly re-visit. Suggest that booking is made for week-ends.

We visit The Lion Inn quite frequently and the service and food is always excellent. They will use spray oil for a healthier option, and I would say the Rogan Josh is the best I have ever had. Raj and the team are great.

Our regular Indian restaurant recently closed and we have been looking for a replacement - not been to the Lion for a while but Raj and Nisha welcomed us like old friends - the food was of a great standard, served by attentive staff in very ambient surroundings - even met other good friends there too - all in all a great experience - we’ll be back!!!

I visited the lion inn for a family meal. As I do on a regular basis, I can't recommend enough. Customer service is something that can not be beaten by the competitors nor is the food! We really enjoyed our first visit to The Lion Inn after being recommended to visit by friends. The sharing platter starter was tasty, hot and you could tell everything was cooked fresh to order. We had the lamb curry which was lovely and tender and the sagwala. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will return for another curry!

Called in without booking and was greeted and given table straight away. Good selection on menu. Service was great and food delicious. Couldn't eat all mine but they offered to put in container to go and even put some rice in for me. Really kind of them.

We visited friends, in the area, who had used Trip Advisor to choose The Lion Inn. The restaurant was a little out of the way, but very much worth the visit. Raj and staff (sorry madam, but I didn't get your name) were very attentive and friendly, giving great customer service. We had a sitting for nine and everyone was fed, at the same time, with great quality food at a reasonable price.A little gem.

Went for a nice meal and as usual not dissapointed on the least. Raj maked you feel at home from start to finish and is always on hand to offer advice and help to meet your needs and requirements. We've visited on and off now both for take away and eating in for the last three years. I cannot rate this Indian Restaurant enough. The owners are superb, passionate, welcoming, so friendly, which makes the service outstanding.The food is faultless, cooked to perfection, the meats are so juicy and tender, spices are just right. Popped in on a whim on Boxing Day evening with friends and the kids. Lovely welcome and made to feel so at home. Food was excellent as was service. Only ordered takeaway from here before and this was first time eating in, but will def go back. Can wholly recommend.

We were lucky enough to be served by the owner who had had the restaurant for over eighteen years. He was passionate about his food and service and the restaurant was lovely. Other diners were local and the food and service were excellent. I had onion bajis and my husband had a mixed kebab.For mains we had vegetable balti and chicken Bhuna. The chappatis were perfect and the food portions were generous and authentically Indian. We know, we lived in Bradford for many years. We know a good curry when we eat one!!

The Lion has wonderfully attentive staff. Very polite and eager to help. The meals are of a very high standard and there is always enough. It is quite expensive but worth every penny.

Had hoped that the main meal could turn me. I went for the chicken vindaloo (nice but light on chicken content) and lamb bryani (greasy). ~£20! .......and it all fitted with ease on one plate, not value for money!I won't be going back again and wouldn't encourage others...

We were recommended this restaurant by the proprietors of Meeson Hall Hotel a fantastic country house hotel which is nearby. On entry it seemed like any run of the mill Indian restaurant but how we were wrong!The food was possibly the best Indian food we have ever had and we have had quite few! The proprietor who was very friendly and helpful told us that they use no colours or preservatives and explained how they prepare the lamb which they use in their dishes. This lamb was perfect - no grissle and loads of taste.Also, as this is also a pub, there was good drinkable beer on tap which was definitely a bonus!Thanks Raj for a real treat of an Indian meal and we will be sure to visit again if we are in the area.

Fabulous food, great staff and a warm welcome always. We have been taking the kids the since they were very small and they have always been welcomed by Raj, his family and staff. The food is always excellent and special requests are always accommodated.I have recommended The Lion to many friends and they have all need delighted.

This was our first visit after a recommendation by a friend, and it certainly won't be our last. We have visited many restaurants over the years, and this has got to be one of the best. Went to this restaurant when it 1st opened round 1998, it was basic but extremely tasty with friendly service!The food is still marvelous, the welcome lovely & the speed of service, even when they're packed, is good! We recommend this gem to everyone in the area, though we are from Herts but visit family/friends in Shropshire regularly.

Must recommend their Lamb Sag Balti, chicken jalfrazi and channa masala. Bindi Baji, Gobi Baji. Raj and family are great hosts and we are so lucky to have such well cooked Indian Food on our doorstep. Well done to all.

This was a first visit to The Lion and it won't be the last as I've already booked a table for Friday night! I went with a party from work as one of our group is moving to pastures new and we had a lovely meal. The food was fresh and flavoursome, beautifully seasoned and spiced. The staff were polite, attentive and unobtrusive. Indian/Asian food can be unpredictable in its quality but this was fabulous!

Visited the Lion Inn in a group of 6 friends on a Friday evening and was glad we had booked as the place was buzzing. I can't praise highly enough the service, food, attention to detail and warm welcome given to us by our host Rajinder and his family. This is a lovely village pub set in Waters Upton close to Telford but in the heart of the country, a beautifully appointed restaurant which is both open but intimate at the same time due to the positioning of the tables. The menu is extensive but one of our party wanted something not on it, on requesting her choice we found it was no trouble to prepare this dish for her. Not the usual response from many restaurants. I have travelled to an awful lot of places and countries and eaten Indian food but I can honestly say, hand on heart, this is the best I have ever tasted. We can't wait to return to this gem of an eatery.

Lovely fresh food, it was a real pleasure to be served tikka & tandoori dishes without garish food colouring. Naans are light & fluffy. Service impeccable. Having been used to the quality of Birmingham's Balti restaurants it is such a treat to be able to eat great Indian food out in the sticks.

Once again had another lovely meal here with friends Extremely busy night this Saturday 30/01 but the service was not effected Very friendly as always from Raj, Nisa and Bobby Tried all new dishes this time around, recommend as always and not disappointed !! I have been eating here for a while now, We go as a party of 4 and always receive a warm friendly welcome, The staff are all very nice. The food is so good every time we go, never disappointed. Yesterday we tried a sharing platter to start, It was delicious, a mixture of samosa, lamb kebab, chicken tikka chunks onion barjis onions and peppers in a gorgeous sauce.really reccomend it. I has lamb rogan josh, lean tender lamb, beautiful.

I've been to The Lion Inn on a number of occasions and have always received a warm friendly welcome. The menu selection is excellent, being a non meat eater I was pleased to see a large selection of fish dishes on the menu. All meals are cooked fresh to order so you would expect a short wait for your meal but nothing unacceptable.Overall each visit I have made I have been impressed with the excellent customer service, varied menu and great food so wouldn't hesitate to recommend to my friends and family.

We visited here as a group of 6 following many recommendations and thought the food was lovely. There is something not quite right about the place to be honest but between us we could put our finger on exactly what.... there are a few magazines unfortunately. Upon arrival it was abundantly clear that this was a "pack em in" establishment. It was a very busy Saturday evening and we was on a makeshift table for 6. The waiters were having issues getting round all the tables and so did us diners! That being said we was quite comfortable and did get served quite quickly. We had a little wait to order drinks but this wasn't a problem. The food menu is ample if a little restricted. There doesn't seem the choice that you find other places. However we all managed to find something we wanted. . . Even though we all agreed nothing really jumped out at us.Strangely you have to declare the number of popodom's you require!!! We since found out that this is because you pay for them. We find this quite unorthodox. Also when the chutneys etc arrived... we had 3. Normally in other restaurants you get more choice and the popodom's are normally inclusive. For a pricey menu this seemed a bit cheap of the restaurant.When the food arrived... we can genuinely have no complaints. Everything was served promptly and was absolutely lovely. Really decent food here.We all ordered different dishes and not one person was unhappy with their choices.One or two of our party said they felt rushed and the service was rushed etc but I didn't agree to be honest. . . My issue was that the menu is pricey. And whilst you are getting quality food you can't help but feel they are cutting corners here and as a customer you feel cheated. . . CROWDING TOO MANY PUNTERS IN.... PAYING EXTRA FOR POPODOMS AND CHUTNEYS... THEN GETTING MEAGRE PORTIONS OF THEM... OVERPRICED, RESTRICTED AND UNIMAGINATIVE MENU....The food here was great but all we left saying was how the whole experience wasn't quite right. . . Hence why unfortunately we wouldn't return.

Curry heaven We've been to many curry restaurants over the years and this without doubt is the best of the lot. We've tried most of the dishes on the menu and all have been lovely - the lamb / chicken bhunas and tandoori king prawns being particular favourites!

The Lion Inn was recommended to us and so we visited the restaurant. We were given a very warm welcome and given a choice of table which accommodated the 3 of us with plenty of room. We were given ample time to choose our meal, the service was 1st class and the respect we were given made us all feel good and rather special. The environment was immaculate, warm and comfortable. When the meal arrived we were served at the table and the quality of the food was second to none, we had a starter, main and pudding and we all cleared our plates. The tastes tingled our taste buds and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. On paying the bill which I must say was extremely reasonable we were all offered and accepted a mint chocolate. The Lion Inn offers a wonderful choice of Indians meals at a great price and we will have no hesitation in recommending it or visiting it again when we are in the area. It also offers take out which we also tried and were very impressed again with the quality of food.

We were recommended by friends to visit here and so pleased we did. We hadn't booked and took a chance. They were busy but managed to fit us in ( between having a 50th birthday party) the staff were very attentive, apologising for short time to eat our meal, but glad they fitted us in because food is amazing. We are going back in a few weeks but will book this time

My family and I eat regularly at the lion and can honestly say the food is second to none. I'm not an adventurer when it comes to Indian food but the lamb bhuna is spot on every time, melt in the mouth lamb which isn't fatty or oily and the perfect blend of spice. We have never had a bad meal and I'm sure never will do. The welcome is always a warm one and for the price you really can't get a better meal. If your looking for a high class evening this isn't the place for you it is simply a lovely warm welcoming down to earth restaurant with food to die for.

We dine here about once a month and have done for the last 13 years or so. The food is the best around Telford and the surrounding rural area. The service is exceptional and we always get the best service from Raj and his team. The curries are to die for and so are the nan breads etc and Raj will always produce a dish that's not on the menu.Takeaways are the same quality. Lovely friendly staff and inviting atmosphere.Cannot be beat.

Deciding to have an evening meal, my wife and I followed a tip from a friend and visited The Lion. The food was excellent. If you happen to be in the area, north of Telford, and are in need of good food, you really should visit The Lion. It's probably a good idea to book; the locals know this restaurant well and it fills up quickly. The staff are welcoming and friendly and prices are very reasonable.

Another great meal at this little gem of an Indian restaurant . The waiting staff are always happy to help and are the most polite people I know. The food is above excellent, absolutely delicious. Prices on par with other restaurants in the Telford area. Definitely worth a visit.
