Me and the girlfriend had a lovely afternoon tea here, it had a great selection of teas what you could choose from a book and really enjoyed the selection of pastries and sandwiches what they gave us, they explained what was in each cake and sandwich, asked if we have any allergies and the service was out standing. If you are feeling flush and want to treat yourself I do recommend this place for afternoon tea 👍

Beautiful and opulent setting. Feels cosy as small room/s. Attentive service. Had five course vegetarian tasting menu including glass of Champagne. Most courses delicious. Pudding a disappointment (gooey pudding wasn’t gooey enough) and some of biscuits at the end were so hard as to be inedible. Overall wonderful and would recommend.

Elegant, opulent, cooked well, not unconventional. Very liberal use of heavy cream in desserts!

Overall score based on the food 8.5/10

Nothing amiss. All done very well. Nothing special, or different, or interesting though. Elegant, simple, nothing unconventional.

A very opulent atmosphere, with staff who were very formal, and needed a little time to warm up and be friendlier. Perhaps due to the setting in the Wellesley? I always prefer a more human interaction. Very helpful, accommodating and proper in interactions and attention to the table. The table arrangement does not seem to be ideal though, as it was awkward to place plates in the middle seats in a larger table (5+).

After a good lunch, as we have had several times before at this restaurant, it took about 20 minutes to bring us the bill.
I had mentioned when booking, as you recommend, that we wished to use a Dining Cheque in part payment. After a further 5 minutes, we were told that they would not accept the Dining Cheque. We should have been informed either by email, or upon arrival that this was the restaurant’s position.
We feel that you should bring this lack of communication to the management’s attention, to ensure that other guests are not embarrassed in future.
We look forward to hearing your comments, as there is not much point to your reward points, if we find it difficult to use the reward.

Another good meal at the Wellesley. Food is of a high quality, lovely intimate dining room and excellent service. Special offer set menu is good value. Wine is expensive (min. £10 a glass/£30 a bottle) but even the house variety is decent. One slightly off note this time was the smell of cigar smoke. Not sure if there is a cigar lounge on the ground floor, but there was a definite and fairly strong smell of cigar smoke for the entire meal, which wasn't nice.

Great location for a quiet dinner with friends we hadn't seen for ages. Very elegant small dining with the jazz lounge opposite. We were all on the set menu. Just gorgeous. Starters were all fabulous. Main courses all excellent except the veal which was very good - but not quite mindblowingly so. Free glass of champagne was Veuve de Clicquot.
At dessert things dropped slightly from the five stars due to the service becoming slow (our friends with jet leg were falling asleep) and a Rhum au Baba that was just not Rhum au Baba.

So like a lot of italian restaurants - enjoy the starter and main - don't expect too much on dessert (but you might get lucky). We had the same experience at Amaretto at The Four Seasson.

Our friend (from Paris) - just left her dessert ("thats a joke Baba au Rhum" she said... ).

I'm sure the ice cream would have been delicious!!

But all in all - just great location and ambience. Quiet, elegant, excellent food and service. We really enjoyed the evening.

I booked the Wellesley Hotel as I had read the reviews and thought it sounded ok and was a reasonable price. I didn’t want to spend £70 or more on a festive tea as I had done in the past, so £35 pp was a good price. We arrived early for our seating but the table wasn’t ready. No problem there as we were asked to sit in the bar and complimentary nibbles were brought out. We were called in after 15 minutes and were advised that the lunch service had gone over time. We were to be the only party in the room for a little while until 2 other guests arrived. The room was small but the tables were spaced adequately apart, so we weren’t sitting on top of one another. We ended up choosing the champagne tea at £50 per head. Drinks came out first followed by fresh strawberries as a starter. Next was a plate of sandwiches each and we were told by the wait staff we could ask for more at anytime, which we did. They were delicious especially the small tomato and mozzarella focaccia. An added touch was a small glass of mulled wine each. Scones and cakes were next and these were also very good. The cakes weren’t very Christmassy but that was fine. We asked for an extra plate of plain and fruit scones as they were pretty good and so was the jam and lemon butter accompanying them. The second serving also meant the plates of jam, cream etc were refreshed which was most welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. We were not rushed, service was excellent and the room and table very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful and did a great job. Congratulations to them all (including the pianist). Having experienced quite a few afternoon teas in London, I would recommend The Wellesley.

Sad to say that our latest visit did not match up to previous ones. We were a group of 6 celebrating my birthday and my daughter had booked the Afternoon Tea knowing it to be a favourite place of mine. We had a bit of a wait for the the sandwiches despite us being the only people there. The English breakfast tea, though still free flowing, was grey in colour. When the scones arrived they were not fully cooked so they were whisked away and we were told we'd get more. They had to be cooked from scratch so we had to eat the fancy patisseries next....not quite the right feel to afternoon tea. We had another wait (obviously) while the scones were being baked. When they finally arrived, they were overlooked. Hot but rather crunchy...clearly the oven was too hot. We were given prosecco, courtesy of the chef. Nice gesture but I am not a drinker! The waiting staff, apart from one, seemed a bit disinterested. Great end though.....we took a photo of the hotels own Rolls Royce outside, with its personalised number plate, and the lovely concierge man made the silver lady at the front rise up! Looked like our own personal car as my surname is Wells!

I met my 3 sisters here for one of our regular Saturday lunch get togethers. We had the Open Table offer of a 5 course tasting menu with a glass of champagne. The hotel entrance to the restaurant is not impressive but once inside there is much to admire. The restaurant itself is small, beautiful and luxurious. The food was very good and we had enough to eat, which is not always the case with special offers. This is fine dining so the portions are small but the main course and the dessert course were sufficient and the bread basket was generous. We had Dover Sole and Lamb for the main courses and both were delicious. Desserts were also delicious and a perfect end to the meal. We were the only people in the restaurant so the service could not be faulted. Our Italian waiters Matteo and Silvia were charming and helpful. I asked for help in choosing wine from the least expensive on the list and I was guided towards a white and a red that were both acceptable to our pockets and our palates. My one criticism would be that the sommelier didn't take time to understand how we wanted the wine served, the white with the starter and the two fish dishes and the red with the lamb. Two white wine glasses were taken away by her before the starter arrived and we had to ask for them to be returned. Other than that we had a lovely relaxed lunch at The Oval and would certainly return. We could only book this deal for a 12.30 lunch. No other time slots carried the offer at lunchtime. The Oval is well worth a visit on this offer.

We visited here recently for a birthday and Mother’s Day treat. On arrival - we were early - we were greeted in a really friendly manner and seated ahead of time (20 mins early) so that was nice. We were the first people seated in the room and had a nice two seater table. All of the staff were really polite and friendly and efficient. The food was really nice and a good choice; we were also asked if we wanted a refill of the sandwiches, which were lovely, and we obliged. The only reference to it being a Churchill Afternoon Tea was the cigar cannoli which was delicious. The teas we had were nice - I tried two (the toffee flavoured one and the mango one) & my Mum had the Churchill one with the hint of amaretto. These were replenished regularly too. It was a nice surprise for my Mum and another guest at the next table having a complimentary Happy Birthday treat which was delicious and being sung to too & everyone clapped which was really nice. It was nice and atmospheric having a pianist playing but at times it was quite loud and distracting. The room was really attractive and nicely decorated. The loos, downstairs a flight or two, are really nice and tasteful. All of the staff we encountered were really polite and friendly. The hotel is situated extremely close to the subway exit/entrance for the tube (Hyde Park Corner).

This is a review for the Jazz Lounge, a cosy restaurant with live jazz music at the Wellesley. Our birthday celebration was marred by a chaotic service flow which put 1 1/2 hours between course 1 and 2 of our 6-course tasting menu which was actually upgraded to 10 courses by including 4 services of bread while we were waiting. First course, the scallops, was innovative, tasty and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the rest of the hot courses were lukewarm, unacceptable, and we could not enjoy them as we were full of bread by the time they finally arrived. We also ordered the wine pairing and this was a disappointment as well. The wines were not actually bad but they went for inexpensive vintages, however the worst part was the presentation of the wines. All, but the sweet wine, were served in cheap wine tasting glasses. Totally classless, they should know we were not tasting wines, we were pairing wines with our food. The personnel was polite and courteous but there were flaws like dirty cutlery, removing the clean glass and leaving behind the used one and so on and so for. But the music saved the night. Beverly Stone, singer, and Geoff Castle, piano, delighted us with three sets of very nice music. Commendation goes as well to the fancy Cohiba cigars box presented at the end with delicious chocolates They should consider sacking the chef and the kitchen and service staff and turn it into a Jazz Bar with light meals.

A birthday tasting menu dinner that isn't impressive, but saved by the jazz music duo. Not a good start with the server tipping over 2 out of 5 of our amuse bouche. We waited to receive the first of 6 courses within 40 minutes, the 2nd arrived 1 hour and 45 minutes after sitting at the table, only after having complained food was not coming out of the kitchen for us (other tables were being served in that time). The waiters did not know which glasses to take away, having to stop them on several occasions when about to take wine away before finishing it. A replacement knife was marked, which at this level should be expected to be polished at the very least. 3rd, 4th and 5th courses were far too salty, covering up the ingredients. The total time for the meal was 3 hours and 45 minutes, meaning an unexpectedly late return home. In conclusion, there is potential to improve, however, on this occasion I am not convinced that another London restaurant will not perform better. Keep the wines though, they were well paired.

I spent hours looking for the right tea room in London. My mother is a total Anglophile who, for whatever reason, had not been to London in her 62 years on this planet. She has always spoken of high tea, and over the years made reservations for various high teas all over the United States. Of course, all of it combined couldn't come close to our experience at the Wellesley. I read about the Ritz, the Hilton, and all of the other quality high tea experiences in central London, but truth be told the Wellesley is the best. The service is impeccable, the food is fabulous and there is plenty of it, their house blend tea is unique and bursting with flavor, and the ambiance is classically beautiful. It was an incredible afternoon, and one that will not be topped anytime soon. I fear that any other high tea after the Wellesley would be disappointing, but at least now we have a great place to return to whenever my English adoring family is in town to visit me. Don't miss this place- I mean it!

The service was polite and helpful from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. The dining room was beautiful with a pianist playing throughout. As for the food the quality was exceptional and as for the quantity...we simply could not eat it all. The selection of teas was interesting. The highlight for my mother was the birthday cake brought in by the waitress accompanied by the pianist playing, 'Happy birthday '. A mention must be made of the chocolate filled cigars as this was a Winston Churchill themed afternoon tea. We all had fun eating these and they tasted delicious too. I would not hesitate to recommend the Wellesley.

No cream for me but an extra three different kinds of 'sauces ' - rhubarb, chocolate and raspberry... I wasn't so keen on the scones if I'm honest, they were a bit dry but this is just a small criticism. The staff were professional and pleasant and replenished our teas without us even noticing! This is probably one of the best afternoon tea experiences available, especially when taking into account the personalized service, room decor, location, music and the tea itself. The selection of sandwiches and cakes went down a treat, but what we liked most about it, was that the room was not one of these massive halls. It was a lovely size allowing you to take in more of the background piano and tentative 5 star service provided. A great experience which we would recommend time and time again.

The Wellesley Afternoon Tea is an outstanding experience. Delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes and of course high quality tea. The service was perfect and so was the piano player and the surroundings. The only thing you might miss is a nice view but on the other hand it would just disturb the enjoyment. Top scores to The Wellesley.

We had afternoon tea at The Wellesley. It was s great experience from start to finish. You start with a pot of tea of your choice. They bring in small sandwiches to start with a platter of desserts on the top tier. You can have as many sandwiches and scones as you like. They bring a fresh pot of tea in between courses. In the background a pianist plays jazz and pop music. The venue is super luxurious with Rolls Royces parked out front, we'll definitely return.

I booked The Wellesley for my mother in laws birthday and have to say it was absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious and plentiful as was the tea, cakes and scones. At the last minute I dediced to tell them it was her birthday and at the end they brought in a cake with a candle on and the pianist played happy birthday and everyone applauded......it was a really nice touch. The pianist was also superb. It was a very relaxed atmosphere in comparison to other afternoon tea venues I have been to. You were not crammed in and sitting on top of each other. Definitely worth every penny. Would highly recommend this hotel for afternoon tea. Have to say it is probably my favourite so far!!!!

We could not get a booking in Harrods for afternoon tea so picked the Wellesley as being within walking distance. What a great choice! We could not fault the service from the welcome when we arrived at the reception and throughout the afternoon tea. Very attentive without being intrusive. The afternoon tea itself was excellent with beautiful sandwiches, scones and cakes in abundance. We were pleased we were not planning a meal in the evening! The ambience was relaxed, not over crowded and a first class pianist added to the occasion. We will definitely return

It was my first afternoon tea experience in London and The Wellesley hotel was a very nice choice. The staff was very helpful and explained in details how the service works just after we were seated by the table. The food they offered was delicious (finger sandwiches, brioches, sweets etc.) and we could repeat any food except the sweets. For my taste the teas menu is nice and there are several flavors available for choice.I appreciated this moment very much and will repeat this experience in The Wellesley on my next trip to London.

Last week we visited the Wellesley for afternoon tea.The art deco room is beautiful with a grand piano in the corner. We were greeted warmly and offered a tea choosing menu that was wide ranging and interesting. You can choose to taste different teas during your visit. We had luscious strawberries with cream and champagne. Next a cake stand was delivered with really tasty sandwiches, you are also asked if more needed. The flavours are great.Cakes are imaginative and beautifully produced. As Xmas time mulled wine also offered. There were three types of scone. It is a really special experience and worth the cost as a special day. There are other culinary surprises too.

This was a birthday celebration tea for Mum and booked by my sister who had found it under the Highly Recommended section of the great afternoon tea website. To summarise I would say 'affordable opulence'. At £35 per head for their Churchill tea it's expensive but excellent value for money. The new offerings just keep coming and the eating was just as pleasurable as the visual delight (see photos). There is an extensive selection of different tea options, the pianist delighted us with a careful variety of appropriate pieces and the staff were attentive to a perfect degree.Special touches included a complementary birthday cake and a little take-away Churchill tea presentation pouch. On a practical level, accessibility is good and you need to access via Hyde park corner tube station, choosing the opposite entrance to the park which puts you on the correct side of Knightsbridge. Book ahead to ensure a table.

We had afternoon tea at The Wellesley on Sunday , my friends and I have been meeting for afternoon tea for about 20 years. This was up there with the best. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful in particular our waiter Guiseppe .The selection of tea on offer was excellent and the food amazing. The Churchill 'cigar' was gorgeous . One of our party is vegetarian and her tea was also excellent.I would highly recommend The Wellesley and we will certainly be back.

A very welcoming place. We turned up early and they found us a table straight away. Overall the staff were very attentive and bought us more sandwiches and tea as soon as we required it. The ambiance was brilliant with the pianist playing contemporary music. I had the most delicious vanilla toffee tea. All of it was lovely but the salmon sandwiches were raved about by all the people I was with. Can't wait to go back.

Impeccable service and lovely atmosphere (if you're into a laid back and calming feel) ! The food was tasty (and had lovely extras) and the set menu was great value for money. Sitting in the jazz lounge afterwards was a nice way to end the evening. Only downside (if any) was the restaurant itself was smaller than I initially thought.

Had champagne afternoon tea here today after booking a table last-minute on the day and we were so pleased we had chosen this hotel. We have been to a fair few places for afternoon tea and so far The Goring was our favourite but I would say The Wellesley topped it. There were actually more treats that we got than were on the menu we saw online and these included cucumber, egg and roast beef sandwiches, a mini smoked salmon and cream cheese brioche, mini mozzarella, pesto and tomato focaccia sandwich, fresh strawberries with whipped cream, plain, fruit and chocolate(!) scones (the latter came with the addition of mascarpone and nutella spread), raspberry panna cotta, and the pastries, which included 2 lollipop style ones as well as a roulade, dark chocolate cone with cherry mousse, a fruit tart and a macaroon. All of the listed items were delicious and the savoury items especially were some of the best we've come across, plus we got 2 lots of sandwiches so we would have been stuffed even if we had stopped after the savouries! The atmosphere was lovely with live piano music and we were also promptly provided with a rather fancy high chair for our baby. I had the Chai tea which was very good and infused to perfection (rather than starting off too bland and ending with being too bitter). This afternoon tea certainly is amazingly good value for the top-notch quality of the food offerings and we hope to come back and sample the autumn menu as well when it becomes available.

I brought one of my friends to the Wellesley for Afternoon Tea to celebrate her birthday. From the moment we arrived we were looked after so well! The attention to detail by the staff was wonderful and we were made truly special. The atmosphere was fantastic with a pianist playing in the background. The food was delicious and our dietary requirements were catered for perfectly. I have already recommended this to friends and couldn't recommend it further to anyone else who is in London and would like a good quality afternoon tea.

Went for a friends birthday , just 3 of us , had pre booked , when we got there was shown to a table set for 4 people , they proceeded to remove 1 place setting .
My 2 friend sat facing in to the restaurant I sat the other side of the table facing some darkened mirrors so for me felt claustrophobic. The restaurant only had 2 other diners in so have to say lacked atmosphere although for us it was nice to be able to chat .
We went for the £35.00 set menu which included a glass of fizz. As none of us drink they changed it for us to soft drinks which was appreciated .
The food was pleasant , tasty and nicely presented . The service was attentive and the waiter friendly . It was a leisurely meal and suited our purpose but as I said previously lacked any atmosphere .

Went here for Afternoon Tea on the weekend. It was nice, but I wasn't blow away with the cakes. The savoury aspects were just delish. We asked to change a salmon one, and they were more than welcoming to do that. But I just wasn't amazed by the cake selection, it was okay. Staff were lovely very attentive, and lovely atmosphere with the piano in the back ground.

Had an afternoon tea at The Wellsley. Lovely afternoon tea with a selection of teas. VWe had to wait nearly an hour for our teas to come others came in the restaurant and were served before us. Eventually got our sandwiches which were lovely smoked salmon and cream cheese and lovely selection of cakes. Be aware of the service charge which is not quoted on the website. I would consider going again in the future maybe. The chef made us a lovely anniversary cake which was a lovely surprise.

I took my daughter to the Wellesley for afternoon tea. I had heard good things about the hotel. It was a surprise to go into the room where tea was being served - it was a lot smaller than at other hotels. From there, it was all amazing. The staff were absolutely wonderful - incredibly friendly and eager to make our tea as enjoyable as possible. Particular thanks must go to our Italian waiter and the very talented pianist. The food was great, with a very wide choice - sandwiches, scones, cakes, strawberries and cream and panacotta. We have tried a few teas at London hotels and I would say this was one of the best - definitely better than the Ritz!

Leonardo, our host, and his team were brilliant and welcoming after having numerous conversations with him on the phone about dietary requirements. They catered to our exact needs. The tea was one of the best I had come across, and with impeccable service-- and it was a nice blend of traditional and modern sandwiches and cakes, very refreshing change. . Some people have complained about the breads used, but ours were made fresh from the oven and the foccacia rolls with mozzarella and pesto were incredible. I specifically liked the chocolate scones and the fun panacotta pots-- a nice twist! The piano music was a fab touch and the interior light despite not having windows. I liked that it was classy and yet not pretentious in any way... we could relax and have a wonderful few hours there. Thank you, Leonardo and team for a wonderful experience.
