The food is well-cooked and the service is always great but it feels like the menu has been the same for years now - especially that featherblade beef, the same across all of the Elite restaurants. Noting exciting or inventive really going on. Was hoping for some fresh dishes so was disappointed, definitely wouldn't go back again unless they updated it all a bit, but you'd probably enjoy it if you'd not been before.

We came here for Christmas Eve dinner, fortunately before the latest round of restrictions. The service was exceptional - friendly and attentive staff, knowledgeable about the dishes and wines, and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was as good as we'd heard - absolutely beautiful. We would definitely recommend, and we'll be returning as soon as we're able.

Great food and very friendly service. I've eaten here before and also at the Sticky Walnut, Chester under the same ownership and never been disappointed.i won't bore with everything we ate but will just describe one starter.- Pork Belly. The tastiest piece of pork imaginable served with a Peanut sauce and chilli pickled Watermelon, a very strange but fantastic combination of flavours. That gives an indication of the imagination that goes into the cooking.Worked out at £70 per head which included a good Red, coffees, some beers and liqueur coffees.

First time dining here, can honestly say it was worth every penny, we both had the pare which was amazing, both also had the roast beef, amazing, one of the best roasts I’ve ever had, especially the gravy, I had the Parkin and my partner had the oblivion, both also amazing. Nice little atmosphere to go with it.

First time visiting Wreckfish and I have to say, the menu has a slightly higher price-point in comparison to other city-centre restaurants. Expect to pay £50-60 per head for 3 courses (inc drinks) but the quality of the food is worth it.Being independent and unique, you’re not buying into a High St dining experience and are experiencing the years of creative ideas by the owner and team. This bears fruit in the recipe ideas and flavours presented on your plate.I can best describe each course as ‘an explosion of flavours’, thanks to a mix of tastes which perhaps shouldn’t work, but clearly do. A lot of thought has gone into creating the recipes and for me, this is worth the asking price. I would describe it as ‘artisan’ food which simply works and is unlike anything on a big chain-restaurant menu. Would definitely visit again.

We ate here recently and were really looking forward to it, however found the whole experience to be really average. The staff didn’t seem particularly friendly though I appreciate with the obligatory face masks it’s often difficult to pick up on this so perhaps I missed some smiles or other visual queues. On being seated we both found it easy to select a starter from the set menu on offer however as we are both vegetarian we were disappointed to see just one option on the main courses so both had to go for this. In a month of Sunday’s it would never have been a first choice for either of us, but our main of miso glazed butternut squash with king oyster mushroom, turnip, peanuts, whipped sesame tofu and kale arrived. The portion was massive. Everything tasted like it had been cooked with no seasoning or flavour - the whole dish was a bit austere to be honest. The miso glaze was lost and none of the other vegetables on the plate seemed to have been given the star treatment in any way. The sesame tofu was unnoticeable too. In the end we both stopped eating because a) there was too much (no matter how much we ate there always seemed to be the same amount left on the plate!) and b) we got bored of the dish to be honest. The main ingredient ingredients could have made a lovely pithivier with the addition of some extras and some lovely cheese perhaps. Either way, the main was a complete disappointment. A diner at the next table also had this dish and left around half too. Lovely desserts, nice wine. Service very discreet. Overall I’d say it was fine but nothing more than that. Total bill was just less than £150 which was fine but I’d have expected a main with a bit more taste and oomph. Wouldn’t go back, although it was a nice enough place.

I went with my girlfriend on Saturday night. All the sensible COVID measures were being followed. Hand sanitiser on entry and all staff wearing masks. To start, we ordered the braised octopus and the pigs head croquette. The croquette was a crispy porky treat that I would highly recommend. We followed that with the smoked/glazed ham hock to share. The meat just fell off the bone and came with a delicious parsley sauce. This comes with chips and is comfortably enough for two to share.I’m not usually a sweets person but the Choux Bun caught my eye. The pastry is crisp and filled with delights, whipped cream, hazelnuts and a caramel sauce. My girlfriend ordered the banana cake but it wasn’t long before we ‘agreed’ to share. Just order the Choux Bun!We washed this down with the red Mendrarossa, wine of the month. This was perfectly pleasant, although the house red would probably do the same job. We also had an Expresso Martini from the cocktail menu, this also didn’t disappoint and provided that cold caffeine kick you want.We really enjoyed the three courses and had an excellent time. For £39 each, that’s very good value. The staff were excellent and we will definitely be back soon.

We have been fans of Elite Bistros for a number of years and have dined at Wreckfish several times. To be fair our experiences have varied from fabulous to okay, a little hit and miss but the ‘hits’ are worth the risk!Last night was desperately disappointing for multiple reasons.Staff - usually friendly and pleasant were surly and rude. We were shown to our table by who I assume was the head waiter. He didn’t speak a word. He then spent the evening running around and I really mean running. The staff thunder up and down the stairs giving the feeling of rushed chaos. Not a good atmosphere to dine in at all. Restaurant - was cold. Experienced this here before and assumed it was air con. As you can’t have air con on due to COVID it can’t be that. There is a cold draft blowing through the restaurant all the time. Felt like a kitchen door was open. Food - cold! Cold plates and cold restaurant meant that by the time all the meals had arrived they were cold, stone cold by the time you finished you food. I mentioned this to the waiter and the manager said we could have desserts for free. A nice gesture but I would have had a dessert anyway. I didn’t want a fuss, it was just a comment so when my cod wasn’t cooked through I didn’t say anything. The quantity and quality of food plus the restaurant experience do not command £39 for 3 course. The set price menu approach demand a better dining experience, I expect it to be good at least, it wasn’t worth half the money. The bill was £220 for 4 and we left cold and underwhelmed.

We don't live in Liverpool so this is a destination restaurant for us, we have visited many times and it never disappoints. Food and service are always excellent. We took the corner table for the 6pm slot which gave plenty of time for a leisurely meal before the train home. Compliance with Covid regs is exemplary, spaces between tables are generous, and we felt as if it was a completely safe environment. It's a special dining out experience for Liverpool and altho it's not cheap, there are an awful lot of places around where you will get an entirely forgettable meal for not much less. I visited Wreckfish over the weekend as a birthday treat for my Mum. I’ve been this restaurant loads of times, and always shouted about it, to the point where I’ve bought several family members vouchers for Christmas / Birthdays so they can come and try it for themselves. However, this time I was kinda disappointed. The menu wasn’t really explained to us, as I expected a Sunday roast or the usual “two courses for __” which I usually go off, but they wasn’t there. Despite saying online there was a Sunday Menu which included two courses for £21, and it was wrote inside the restaurant downstairs too... I was just confused by the whole thing. Maybe it cut off earlier in the afternoon, but it could’ve been a little bit clearer online to save this confusion for other people. Anyway, the olives and focaccia was nice, cauliflower risotto (my favourite dish I always get) was amazing too. But I was slightly disappointed by the mains, as a vegetarian, they was pretty safe and underwhelming- and not great value for money. Our waitress wasn’t very warm or chatty, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. I began to feel like our table (three of us) was maybe annoying her or being a inconvenience, and then I realised how ridiculous that was considering we was sat there doing nothing, and the service was just not great. As someone who also works in hospitality, I know it’s hard trying to please customers and trying to keep people happy. However when it’s someone’s birthday, and it’s stated in the reservation, I believe the least staff can do is wish the guest a Happy Birthday and give them a complimentary glass of Prosecco, just as a nice touch. This didn’t happen, nor did our waitress even acknowledge my mums birthday, which was abit shocking to be honest. We did get a plate saying “Happy Birthday” with a tiny cube of fudge on at the end, after I asked if there was anything like that which could be given to my mum. This was better than nothing, but also a little too late. Overall there was some tasty bits, the Cabernet Sauvignon was absolutely delish, but the service or ambience just wasn’t what it usually is. I’d like to think this was just a one off, so I can come back here again as I usually would, but I left feeling abit reluctant to visit again.

We were first in at 6pm so we had a choice from the set menu or the main menu. We all chose from the main menu. The starters arrived and what a treat for the eyes to see before you get to taste. All of our starters were so tasty. We had Bread as an aperitif which was such a treat for the taste buds, which gives you a hint of what is to follow. 3 of us had a starter - scorched sea bream, french onion soup & sweet beef cheek. OMG, absolutely delicious. We then had our main, 2 had halibut, the other dishes were featherblade of beed & roasted lamb rump. the beef came with chips, the other dishes had to order chips as a side which were all parmesam and truffle chips. We then ordered 2 cheese boards to share between couples. Even the cheese selection was exquisite which came with warm bread. Absolutely everything was delicious, the beef came with a very rich sauce (not for me), but was enjoyed by who ordered it and seemed to be very popular when looking around at other plates being delivered. This is a goldmine and is well worth a visit for that special occasion as the bill was heavy, but worth every penny.

The pate was delicious and was served with a decent portion of bread, and the mackerel was fresh and tasty. For mains we chose, the roast port, the roast beef, the duck and the salmon. The pork was absolutely amazing, with fantastic crackling. The roast beef was served pink and with a huge Yorkshire pudding. The duck was also served pink and was really tender. We washed the meal down with a bottle of Chilean Sav blanc, a bit overpriced at £35, and a few bottles of beer. We finished off with a couple of doughnuts and a couple of creme brûlée’s. We had only two breakfasts during our trip to Liverpool- both at Wreckfish. The food was excellent but it was the welcome that brought us back- especially the waiter James who brightened up our day.

Situated in the quieter part of central Liverpool you need to seek out this restaurant but once you get there (we stopped for cocktails at 'Be At' 100 yards down the road), you enter an informal high class restaurant. Greeted really nicely in stylish surroundings. Our waiter was fab and I had a venison carpaccio , just so good and duck for my mains. BEAUTIFUL.. Go there Liverpudlians, you have a really gem - I was a tourist for the weekend and would love a place like this near us. .

I’ve looked forward to trying this restaurant for ages and booked a break in Liverpool in order to make it happen. Sometimes, when expectations are high the experience doesn’t quite match up. Here it not only matches what I wanted, it really exceeded it.

30 of us from work went to Wreckfish Friday 6th December. The service was phenomenal- we had pre-ordered and were asked our names as we sat down. Our menu choices were then delivered to each of us without asking again what we’d ordered i had butternut squash, featherblade of beef and parmesan chips (to die for) and the best Xmas pud i’ve ever tasted. The whole group were blown away by the food, it was so tasty it left your mouth watering wanting more. I got home that night and booked Burnt Truffle, part of the same group in Heswall, for my birthday in January with my family. It’s the best meal i’ve had in a long time so I can’t wait to visit again. I wish i could eat there every night! Can’t recommend it enough ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

My husband and I are at the stage in our lives were we are very lucky to be able to regularly eat out at local restaurants to high end restaurants. I had a birthday recently so tried to book Wreckfish online. The "system" would not let me do this so I decided to ring them. A gentleman answered and I didn't quite finish my sentence when he interrupted by saying very curtly "we are fully booked"! I reeled off a number of future dates to once again be told fully booked. We had been given a voucher as a present (which was due to run out 23 December). When I asked well when can the two of us come, he said " oh are there only two you?" (which if he'd let me finish my sentence in the first instance he would've found out). His attitude changed immediately. We booked and were really looking forward to going, after we'd heard it was very good. I informed him of our trying to book online. I was told he knew about this glitch (but nothing has been done???). We arrived promptly on the date booked and was surprised to see we were the only people there (at this point). I asked if I could purchase a voucher (xmas present). I was told yes then the front of house promptly took us into bar area (ignoring the request to buy a voucher). I asked for a pink gin but they only had one flavour in stock. I was disappointed as gin is "en trend" and I thought Id be able to order this drink. The gin arrived in a tumbler rather than gin glass... I would have thought if in a high end bistro.....? We were eventually shown to a table in the basement. It was gloomy as it was painted battleship grey with bare brick with low ceilings. I am married to an electrician so I like a "mood lighting" however it was so dark at our table in the corner that we had to use a phone torch to read the menu! I did notice that there were several bulbs out opposite which obviously needed replacing. The tables adjacent did have slightly better lighting so we could have just been unlucky where we were seated. We personally found that the basement had no ambience and had a cold feeling. My husband ordered Lamb and I had the blade of beef for mains. Both were absolutley superb! The waiting on staff were very attentive (apart from the waitress who sat us at our table who forgot to bring a drink my husband had ordered but hey ho the waiter got him one half an hour later). I found them very knowledgeable of the menu when asking questions...always a good thing!. The service was very good and compliments to chef for the mains. For desert my husband ordered semi freddo chocolate dish which was delicious (I had a little taste) He thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered an aftereight cake with choc sauce and mint choc chip ice cream costing £8.00. Unfortunately what I got was a small chocolate brownie with choc sauce with a scoop of the most tasteless ice cream I've ever had. NOT A HINT OF MINT ANYWHERE!! My husband tasted it (in case my tastebuds had gone awray)..... nope no mint. We paid up and told the waiter about the desert (just in case another customer ordered it and would be disappointed). Our lovely waiter said he would give feedback to the chef as it was a new dish (pity the main ingredient was missing)!!! We left (without ever purchasing a voucher... perhaps a good thing)? My expectations of this Bistro was so much higher than the actual experience and I'm afraid to say they think it is much better than it actually is. There are so many better restaurants out there. Sorry to say we would not return despite there being a number of "highs"..... too many lows for us! Front of house needs to be a little warmer in attitude too.

Booked here as we frequent Pinion regularly and as a special occasion for my graduation. We had a beautiful table right at the front of the open kitchen and it was really enjoyable to watch the chefs and food prep. We knew it would be great food but as some of our guests had never eaten at any of the elite bistro restaurants before we wanted them to love it too and they did! All of the desserts we tried .. cant even explain how nice! The donut... honeycomb ... ginger cake. The Chefs should be proud. Thank you for a lovely meal

We looked forward to our visit having decided to treat ourselves whilst having a well earned break from work. We were greeted by a gentleman who was very friendly, professional but not too much. We were sat downstairs in a small area by the toilets. It lacked atmosphere and felt quite isolated a bit like sitting in a brick prison cell. Service was attentive but unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the expectation we had been given by reviews and word of mouth. I had pate for starters which was ok, pretty average and fishcakes for main which were so heavily seasoned they were inedible. My friend had the French onion soup and feather blade which was delicious. After complaining about my food we revived a discount and an apology but it put a damper on the evening. Won’t be back unfortunately. With so many great places in Liverpool to experience and enjoy I really can’t recommend Wreckfish which is so disappointing

I recently visited Wreckfish for an evening meal. Seated downstairs, in a sort of booth, it was perfect; intimate enough so we could all hear each other but not excluded from the rest of the diners. Food was delicious and had a good mix of fish, meat and vegetarian options. Out waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly. Great place.

I was in LiverpooI on my own for a weekend and booked myself in on Saturday evening for diner. I had a lovely table upstairs where as a solo diner I could people watch and kitchen watch. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so you can watch and hear all the activity.

Visited Wreckfish for the first time. I'd booked for myself, hubby and group of friends and as I'd never been was worried in case we didn't enjoy it. I needn't have worried as we all left saying how good it was and we'd definitely return. We picked from the lunch menu which was £22 for 3 courses. Well worth the money as the food was top quality. Our waitress was a lovely lady who shared a laugh or two with us including playing along with my husbands joke of serving a side of the parmesan chops with dessert as he loved them so much. Already looking to book again and would recommend to others. Thank you for such a beautiful meal and good service. :)

We were staying at the nearby The Nadler (hotel) which does not provide breakfast, but Wreckfish is just across the street and gives 10% discount to Nadler guests. I had breakfast there twice. The food is delicious and the menu creative. I had their porridge one day (it comes with cinnamon and a little blackcurrant jam on top - very delicious) and their avocado on sourdough bread with bacon the next day. Coffee was good, service friendly, low-key and professional. Highly recommended.

Menu looked fantastic (it was one of those that you struggle to make a selection because it all looked so good!), and the food did not disappoint on arrival with amazing flavours in well put together dishes. If fine dining is your thing, then give this bistro a shot. Having a "foodie" wife I am often dragged into Michelin starred restaurants to sample "high-end cuisine" (tough life eh?) and sooo very often I am the lone voice railing against the pretention and ridiculous cost of small portions and style over substance. If like me, you enjoy great food but struggle with BS - this is the place for you. The bistro's ambience is brilliant and the really helpful front of house staff ensure that you settle in straight away (the guys are fantastic and not the least bit full of themselves as is often the case in top-end eateries). The menu sounds delicious - if that makes sense - because every course option is described in a manner which should carry an over-salivation warning. By the way, try the olives for a taster, they are super-good! Personally, I started with the Cauliflower risotto which was absolutely wonderful and followed that up with some of the tastiest fish cakes I've ever sampled. What really makes this bistro a brilliant eating experience is the portion size and the way that the guys apply just the right level of "wow-factor"..... Yes the food is fantastic but the team don't get carried away with themselves like very many other (less satisfying) restauranteurs do. Unlike many high-end eateries, I guarantee that you will leave here feeling full and not craving a kebab to sit on top of your Michelin star froth. Honestly, Wreckfish is a superb eating experience if you like extremely tasty food, great service, value for money and that definately-be-back feeling. Just like Liverpool itsself, a wonderful experience that doesn't rely on pretention and BS (I'm from Brum by the way so no local bias here).
