The staff were lovely, but the room is generally looking a bit tired. It was pretty dead on a Saturday evening. Had the set menu with a wine flight, the lobster omelette was great and fairly generous. Sadly the pork belly was awful - large peices of gristle made it on to the plate, over-smoked mash and broad beans past their best, the accompanying sauce was great but there was not nearly enough of it. Peach Melba made for a decent enough simple pudding. The Pinot noir was good and we had some nice mini macaroons and truffles to finish. Overall ok but uninspired and the main course was a major let-down

My friend and I had a fabulous afternoon tea for two at the Chesterfield. Staff were very attentive, excellent hospitality, well looked after. We loved the beautiful garden area where we were seated. We went for the traditional afternoon tea with a twist with the willy wonka theme. The sandwiches we had were really nice especially the chicken filling ones with the flaked almonds on the outside. We chose the chocolate flavoured tea which was really nice. We loved the way it tasted like tea but you got this sudden burst of chocolate. We had a lovely time with Mr Wonka who gave us one of his ever lasting gob stoppers and a golden ticket. My friend told Mr Wonka and the staff it was my 50th birthday next month and although i was little embarrassed they were really sweet and brought out a cupcake with a candle and sang happy birthday. We would definately recommend to anyone paying a visit to london to have afternoon tea with Mr Wonka and the staff at the Chesterfield it was well worth it. We would like to thank all the staff at the Chesterfield for your hospitality and making it such an enjoyable experience especially Mr Wonka. Look forward to visiting you again with my golden ticket.

A midweek lunch outing. We opted for the set menu, three options on each of the three courses plus the option of a main from the daily changing trolley. Modern British food. We opted for: lobster omelette and pate, (pieces of lobster could have been larger... like the Goring !!). Chicken for the mains and a cheese cake for desert. All well presented, good temperature and sensible portion sizes. We added in the matching wines, very pleasant with the food. A focus on South African, the hotel has ties to a Vineyard down there. A non intrusive piano player creating a welcoming background sound to an almost empty restaurant. All in all a good lunch, a warm and welcoming place. The bars good too... a gentlemens club feel.

The food was indeed very rich and we especially enjoyed the lobster omelette which was expertly paired with the wine. The is possibly London's best kept secret. What a wonderful dining room and no annoying background music and crashing sounds that you get in a lot of restaurants these days. Loris explained that the plush carpet and wood panelling absorbs sounds and the service was just so impeccable. This place is very first class and just thanks for the memories. Booked this restaurant for a birthday dinner. The manager was kind enough to provide us with a cordoned off area in the middle of the restaurant which provided us with a good seating arrangement and comfortable amount of privacy with good ambience. Staff were very attentive to our needs and went the extra mile to help bring out the birthday cake, then return to the kitchen to plate up the cake servings, before boxing up the remainder for us to take home. The staff even gifted a little teddy with a fresh flower to the birthday girl. What a nice surprise!
The food choice was substantial enough not to be overwhelmed and each course was made deliciously. The wine list was very detailed with a varied selection catering for all budgets and wine drinkers. All in all, very good restaurant and staff service in a good Mayfair location.

Booked to go for an Afternoon Tea for a friend's birthday but I have a SEVERE allergy to egg so to highlight the importance I contacted the hotel via email and phone to stress the importance of the allergy. In which the hotel assured me they could cater to my strictly-no-egg request. I felt confident as has visited The Ritz six months prior to this for an afternoon tea and it was absolutely amazing - (completely egg-free!) therefore I figured a 4 star hotel in Mayfair would also be very conscientious and caring - How wrong I was.I ate the Afternoon Tea and I noticed my lips began to feel very itchy but think anything of it. I boarded the Paddington to Reading train and within minutes of departing I started to feel very, very unwell, I found the nearest toilet on the train (which aren't always the most pleasant experience) and started violently vomitting, my lips were swelled, eyes became red and itchy, nose running, my body broke out in a massive rash, I developed hives and had excruciating abdominal pains - I knew it was an allergic reaction and I hadn't eaten anything else that day apart from The Chesterfield's 'egg-free' Afternoon Tea.I was obviously unable to work that evening (I was working in a restaurant to fund university) and I spent the next 15 hours being violently ill. I was also unable to return to work for the following 72 hours as my boss had to treat my illness as food poisoning. Resulting in losing in 32 hours of work and over £200 in earnings because of this hotel's negligence. A week later I typed a strongly worded letter (with the help of my a friend who is a solicitor) and waited their response. They replied advising there was no egg in the food and suggesting it may have been 'cross-contaminated' or 'it may have been something else I have eaten that day!' I hadn't eaten anything else that day and I was 100% sure it was the afternoon tea as started to feel ill as soon as I ingested it. The Chesterfield didn't accept ANY responsibility, apologise or offer any compensation. So paid full price for their food/service which essentially poisoned me. I have lost my confidence in eating out and will NEVER go there again and advise anyone who suffers from allergies/intolerances not to. I am absolutely disgusted in their negligence and customer service.

I have experienced other Afternoon Teas in London and certainly, the Chesterfield Butler's Restaurant ranks right up there with the best. The food and the service were without doubt at the top on the line. The theme for this Afternoon Tea was 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' and it was certainly a nice twist to the the normal everyday presentation. The food was unlimited; you could obtain as much sandwiches, scones and sweets as you desire. The only negative that I would address was not so much the piano player but the the piano itself. When we arrived, we were given a table right next to the piano and since the sound (it wasn't music) was very loud and we could not hear each other, we asked to be move to a quieter area since one of the reasons we booked this restaurant was to have two hours of great conversation over the afternoon tea. Although we were move a quite distance from the piano player, the sound (it wasn't music) unfortunately carried even to our table. I always believed that any type of music in this setting should be like wallpaper; there but no really there; in the background that adds to the ambience of the establishment. The playing of the piano certainly did not enhance the ambience of the restaurant; in fact, it was annoying to myself and my party; it would not be so bad if what he was playing something that was recognizable, however, it seemed he used this opportunity to tune in his piano. Great afternoon tea; great food, great service but leave out the piano player!

I went for dinner to Butlers at the weekend to celebrate a birthday and was very impressed by the quality of food and service. The restaurant itself is very traditional – so I can understand why some people would find it perhaps a bit old fashioned but it is a very nice place to go for a discreet but extremely pleasant evening.

I had the set 3 course meal and as has been noted in other reviews it is incredibly good value. What is also nice is that there are no time restrictions on the set menu as there are in many places offering pre-theatre dining options. Portions are extremely generous and there was a good choice (I ended up with lobster omelette to start – very very nice, red mullet and cheesecake). I was a bit fussy in asking for the mullet to be grilled rather than pan fried – this was done without any fuss.

However what was really amazing was the level of attention and effort that went into the petit fours that we were offered in recognition of the birthday celebration. The waiters even sang happy birthday to my friend (to his utter embarrassment)! Really great place and experience – highly recommended.

This was a place to bring your grand aunt (or is Bertie Wooster the only one blessed with such creatures?) for afternoon tea. The food was similarly comfortable but not threatening. Only a set menu was available with salmon, turkey and a 6(!) oz sirloin covering the non-vegetarian choices. We couldn't finish our top tier of sweets so our goodies were packed in a pretty box with a fresh flower tucked into it. Butlers is located in the Chesterfield Mayfair hotel and most convenient if you are staying there. Breakfast is a strong point with both continental and full English breakfast options. They do a traditional afternoon tea with a champagne option. Dinner is a traditional menu with their Dover Sole being the highlight. They have a good wine list with several excellent South African wines at quite reasonable prices. Service is impeccable. They have not been busy on the several occasions where we had dinner probably due to the large number of other dining options in nearby Mayfair. If you are staying at the hotel I recommend you give it a try.

Four of us had lunch on Christmas Eve - it was extremely quiet. We took my mother who is in a wheel chair with the access and help from the staff being excellent. The head-waiter was very friendly and so was his staff; they were all very kind and helpful. The food was reasonable but not top class. We drank a good amount of wine (including a white Chateau Musar from Lebanon - do not recommend).
The bill for four inclusive was £370.00

We had lunch on a Wednesday lunchtime in November when Butlers was very quiet. Staff were very friendly with the head waiter being especially helpful and keen to ensure that we enjoyed each course. Chose the set lunch (two courses for under £20) from which the risotto vegetarian starter and fish main (grouper) were particularly good as they were both generous portions and tasty. Also, our two glasses of wine were very generous. Highly recommended.

The food was really excellent. However, we ate on a Friday night and restaurant was only one quarter full, meaning it was lacking in atmosphere and was quiet (which may be to people's liking anyway). It was a real shame as everything else was terrific. Maybe another night or lunchtime is the time to go. We will go again...but not on a Friday evening.

Butlers at the Chesterfield is a very good option, particularly if you are staying at the hotel. Their menu is not adventurous with typical British food, like roasted meats. They feature a Dover Sole which is boned at your table. Service is very professional and their is a good wine list. Afternoon tea tends to get quite busy.

Tea at The Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel in London was everything it should be. Great atmosphere and the staff were excellent...not to mention their wares. A place to take friends you want to impress.

The food was good, but the portion sizes were too small, even though we asked and they said the sizes were big.

We had Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. The tea itself tasted okay but the service was exceptional. We would difinately recommend it.

We booked online, and unwittingly signed up for a thanksgiving meal. Had I know in advance I probably wouldn't have booked but once we were there it just seemed too rude to turn away. How glad I am that we didn't, the meal was delightful. They even added a touch of theatrics to the meal, by carving the turkey in the middle of the dining area. The crab cakes they served to start we simply divine. The best crab cake I have eaten.

Needed to book somewhere discreet for a business lunch and chose Butlers because of reviews. It did not disappoint - first class service in both bar and restaurant - 3 courses for £20 was exceptionally good value as the food was excellent - wine also reasonably priced. Both guests were impressed - will definitely return
