Cibo in Midlothian

Visiting Scotland for the new year and decided to try this restaurant. By far this is the most authentic Italian food I have tasted in England and Scotland! Excellent customer service and each dish was unique in Italian flavours! Easy to find on google maps and lots of parking! Great for family and couples!

I ordered a vegetarian Calzone, only to find in my first bite it wasn't, full meat. No worries, these things can happen but the one that was then presented afterwards was some odd combination of carrot and sprouts, which was clearly the only vegetables they had left post Christmas. They charged me for this and the staff clearly couldn't care less. There are many better restaurants in our area that are so much better.

Absolutely blown away by the welcome of the staff when we called late in the evening for a table. They couldn’t do enough for us. The food is absolutely amazing! I’ve driven past this restaurant for years but this was my first visit. From the outside it looks good and there’s a very welcoming fire and seating area as you enter. Plenty of parking right outside the door too. I thought the food was good, nothing exceptional but good. The restaurant itself was very busy which is a good sign too, even if you’d except that at this time of year. Staff were first rate in their pleasantness, but I wondered if they were a little over-stretched? A man I assume to be the owner had an angry swearing moment at a young staff member which wasn’t a great look, right in the middle to the restaurant. We were also never approached for more than our first drink (and we were all wanting to drink more, so thirst for us and lost revenue for them). The decor is nice, very open. However, the carpet looks tired and a bit 70s and the roof was leaking in the rain in several places. I appreciate Covid has hit this industry hard so money may be a bit tight, but these things need work first. It wouldn’t take much to improve this to a 4 star review and while I wouldn’t make a trip specially based on this experience, I would give give it another try a few months down the road.

Were here for a family dinner and once again it was excellent. Everything is just top notch from the moment you arrive to the food and the service, it's just excellent from start to finish.

Excellent delicious food and service! We were a group of 9 and chose Cibo as a few of us have even before. Our waiter was friendly and fantastic! He coped with a complete mixture of orders- some starters, some not, calzone no mushrooms, calzone with, 3 specials and granny having an antipasti for her main, with an extra plate so she could try a few bites of other people's starters 😉 The food was truly delicious- highly recommend the squid ink ravioli filled with scallops, and the venison special. And the perfect panna cotta! Lovely bottle of chianti and a good selection of soft drinks meant we had a relaxing and wonderful family lunch. Highly recommend Cibo!

Amazing food and amazing staff really make you feel welcome and at ease will be back 100 percent we had the sirloin steak and sticky toffe pudding and ice cream also garlic bread as a starter was amazing!

I have visited twice the past month. Portion sizes are large, prices also reasonable for the quality of food. Fast service and great atmosphere. I have recommended this restaurant to all family and friends. Carbonara is rich and creamy with plenty of flavour. Any negative reviews I find hard to believe as both times the food has been outstanding and so has the service. Look forward to returning

Main course sizes really small, particularly for the high prices you pay. Bizarrely the only cider on offer is Strongbow and no money was offered off our bill when my wife found a sharp bit of black plastic in her pizza! Shame the restaurant is so blatantly focused on its bottom line.

Had lunch here today, Thursday 10 December 2020. My partner has been a few times before, but this was my first time. Certainly intend going back very soon. Food and service were excellent. Atmosphere a little bit stilted, but this is due to Covid 19 restrictions. Well worth a visit.

We had a wonderful meal, the food was exceptional and presented very well. The staff were very professional and went into over drive when unfortunately our son did not feel well. He went outside for fresh air then subsequently had a seizure.The Manager?a lovely man, along with waiting and kitchen staff went out of their way to help us out and could not have done any better by providing First Aid care, Personal attention and Humanity under a terrible circumstance. The Mgr allowed us to remain on site awaiting an Ambulance, which took hours to arrive, offering beverages and a friendly chat even though the premises were to close prior to Ambulance arriving.We can not thank them enough. We most certainly can recommend and will visit again and again.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. I booked a table for 2 through their website for 6:30pm this evening and when we arrived we were told there was no reservation, even though I had a confirmation email. They said they haven't taken online bookings for six years and there was a problem with there website. There was no notification on their website saying to book by phone instead.There was at least four other couples who were also turned away at the same time as us.

Staying locally this place was recommended and lived up to its reputation. Spacious and well spaced-apart tables during Covid-19 meant it wasn’t the least bit threatening. Wide menu and all our meals were excellent. Prices a little on the high side but the management are welcoming, the service and the food are good. All we needed for a good Friday night’s meal.

Came here during middle of Coronavirus 2020 Everyone had a great meal one Carbonari, two pizzas and a lemon sole. Food was great, staff friendly and social distancing on point. Reduced tables, staff wore masks and plenty of hand cleanser available. Recommended would happily go back.

Cleanliness & Covid-19 precautions:The restaurant was very clean, there was plenty of ventilation,tables and guests were well-spaced.Cleanliness was very evident from the tables, floors, toilets, hand sanitiser provision and masked staff.Welcome:The staff were very welcoming, enjoyed chatting with guests while being efficient in service.There was pleasant low background music.Guests were allowed to take as much time as needed with menu choices. Staff were discrete in their approach and very helpful.We were also delighted to learn that staff had been kept on and well looked after during lockdown. This showed in their manner, friendliness and attentiveness.Menu choices were great and it seemed that prices had not gone up.The food was freshly prepared, delicious and well-presented. It did not take too long to wait to either order or be served food.The menu choices we ordered included: bruschetta with tomato and basil, tomato soup (starters), pasta filled with langoustine in bisque, clams with pasta and chilli in wine sauce, plus dishes with chicken and lamb (mains), trio of Italian ice creams and pannacotta (desserts). Coffees and herbal tea came with chocolate mints.A lemon refresh towel was supplied with the clam dish.It’s still a restaurant of choice for the family. A big thank you to all at Cibo.

In normal times we eat here occasionally and it is generally very good. However we ordered a home delivery and were disappointed. The arancini was cold,needed reheated. I had the pasta with seafood, two mussels,, three clams, one of which was closed, two prawns and some calamari, along with a massive amount of linguine. My other half had veal saltimboca which he enjoyed, again these dishes needed reheated.

my family have just enjoyed a beautifully cooked meal delivered to our door from Cibo's, the quality off food was stunning, just as good a quality as eating in their resturant. We really needed to have a special treat and the food from Cibo's certainly matched all our expectations.We love going to the resturant, but for now we are delighted that we can have our favourite Italian food delivered, fresh, great homemade taste, hot and just leaves us planning our next takeaway . I came here on a rainy Saturday on the off chance of getting a table. Thankfully we managed to get one and were shown to our table by friendly staff.The menu had so many options all sounding great as well as the specials. I went for my Italian favourite veal saltimboca which was superb. Lovely meat and cooked as it should be. My mum had veal with mushrooms also lovely. The heart of this restaraunt is its staff and they are all friendly and helpful although I'm not local to the area I think this place is superb and if I'm around soon will visit again.

We have been to Cibos for at least 4 family meals over the last couple of years and have never been disappointed with either the food or the service. When the children are with us they special attention to them so it becomes an enjoyable experience. Food is always great and we've never had a bad experience. This is a restaurant that should never be overlooked as it offers a great family experience

Despite having a very good reasonably priced lunch menu I went a La Carte, for my faves Calamari with GARLIC mayonnaise and veal.....both superb. Service is excellent and very friendly in a very relaxed atmosphere. Will be back soon.

We had a brilliant meal. The staff were tremendous and made us feel welcome with lots of joking around. The food was really good with the usual options you’d expect for an Italian restaurant plus some with the restaurant’s added specialties. Good price too. Lots of parking outside. The only drawback is the restaurant is outside Edinburgh and Penicuik but it is well worth the drive.

Cibo was the perfect place for our family to gather before traveling on together to other parts of Scotland. Everything was done to a high standard, while a lighthearted atmosphere, lots of space, and excellent food made the evening extra cheerful. The ambience was genuine "Italy in Scotland"!

Was visiting Penicuik and dined here with a friend, a wide range of Italian dishes were on offer, following a garlic bread starter I tried a pasta dish which was a generous portion - accompanied by a glass of Moretti (Italian) beer. A most enjoyable Italian dining experience!

We had a lovely meal at Cibo’s with the family. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming so you don’t feel like you’re being too noisy with a young family. The service was exceptional, the food was delicious. Would recommend the lasagna and pizza that we had. The kids meals were perfect and everyone else’s meals looked delicious as well. We will definitely go back.

This is an excellent Italian restaurant with reasonably priced food. For starters the bruschetta at £4.95 can easily be shared by two people. An excellent choice of main course is risotto scampi at £12.95, which the chef will prepare with all the meat removed from the shells (no need to get in a mess!). The Pollo Menta at £16.95 is another good choice of main. The waiting staff are really helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

My wife and I popped in here for lunch a few days ago and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. My wife has mobility problems and the manager was very helpful in seeing us to a nice table and getting her a cushion to make her more comfortable. There was an a la carte menu and also a lunchtime menu. We both chose the lunchtime menu. My wife had a chicken meat ball in tomato sauce and I had bruschetta as a starter and we shared and they were both excellent, my wife had the sea bass and I had a pizza for the main and again, both excellent. For dessert, I just had vanilla ice cream and my other half plumped for the panna cotta and again, both excellent. They sell non alcoholic beer for those who are driving and I had a couple of those. For 2 courses it was £10.50 and 3 courses £13.50. What a bargain. We will certainly be back for lunch and also to try the evening menu. Thank you Chibo.

Cibo is an Italian restaurant which has a fixed price two course lunch during the week. It is excellent value for money as the food is delicious. Well worth a visit.

I really had my doubts when our host family from Scotland suggested that we have dinner at a local Italian restaurant. I’m delighted to say I was pleasantly surprised when the waiter, with a strong Scottish accent, started speaking Italian and serving delicious food. We were a good sized group so we had everything from rossito to pizza and it was all delicious. The atmosphere is upscale but comfortable for families and the service is excellent. If I find myself anywhere near Penicuik Scotland again, I’d pay another visit to Cibo!

Have meant to try this establishment for ages.....but at last done it! Fantastic experience from start to finish. Great welcome and the food was just perfection, matched only by the cheery fun service. No surprise this out of town restaurant has had former excellent pedigree. A definite return is assured.....a potential venue for Hogmanay...as last years menu at £55 looked fantastic....awaiting menu foe 2019!

A very eventful day Glentress Peebles dog walking for over an hour and a half while the family went to Go Ape on the grounds which is a vast area thoroughly enjoyed walking the dog amazing views from the height of the woodland we were in.

There's hardly anything to fault

We find this one of the best restaurants in and around Edinburgh. Their food is exquisite and the variety is excellent which seems to cover all of the likes of our friends that we have taken there. On this visit we had fantastic seafood starters and then my wife had a beautiful Italian pasta and chicken dish followed with a wicked chocolate pudding where I just had the monk fish which was really tasty with great fresh accompanying vegetables. To date we have never had anything but first class food and coupled with a lovely surrounding and very attenuative cheery staff there is none better. If you are looking for a nice light lunch or a full dining experience Cebo's is the place you should not miss.
