The Cavaliere in Midlothian

ordered a few times and food is always good. but this time was pretty poor. ordered t bone steak and chicken with haggis. steak was bland and hadn't been seasoned. chips were soggy and sauce was watery like it hadn't been simmered for long enough. chicken was nice but vegetables where watery and sauce again was watery. pretty poor to be honest. considering it was an £80 meal.

The pizza I received was awful - it arrived cold, incredibly greasy and oily I couldn’t eat it! If I received this whilst eating in your restaurant it would be sent back - awful and just disappointing.

Food was great except ordered chips with curry and ended up getting them with cheese and I’m lactose intolerant so not good at all. Curry sauce was runny and munchie box chips came with no salt or sauce and came with Diet Coke instead of diet irn bru even though it was requested. Except for that food was to a high standard, however, cheesy chips put a damper on the evening

Overpriced garbage. £14 for microwave pasta.

Ask your delivery drivers to read the delivery notes. Said road was closed yet didn’t read the notes. Very cheeky driver.

While the food was great, the long wait time (over 2 hours) soured the experience. I would order again from this place but I'd need to order waaaaay earlier so we get our food at a reasonable time, haha!

4 pieces of bread thrown in a small pizza box with about 6 pieces of tomato. no care taken and obviously a rushed order. food was binned

Juice didn’t arrive which I paid for Pizza was undercooked with thick lumps of cheese which wasn’t melted, the grease from the pizza had satured the box and made a whole in it, worst pizza eaten got put in the bin.

Food has still not arrived despite calling to chase up the restaurant. Extremely disappointed. Cannot comment on food quality because still hasn't arrived.

Not worth the almost 3 hour wait, rubbish.

Absolutely disgusting we ordered 2 pizzas and a portion of chips got home and started to eat when I pulled a long hair from the back of my throat absolutely disgusting to the point it made me sick avoid! If your staff can’t wear ppe to avoid this!

The food was cold and soggy when it arrived. I ordered a Rump Steak got a king rib. only thing eaten was the kebab after we reheated it ! Will not be ordering again. last couple of orders have been wrong or missing meals when I contacted the restaurant I was asked if I still wanted the food that was missing I was well yes I've paid for it !! All i got was it will be sent when we get the chance. I never bothered calling the restaurant tonight just raised the complaint with Just Eat.

Delived food with no sauce that I had requested, called them, they then delivered sauce 15 minutes later then I ate my COLD food. but they did give me a free bottle of juice and a tub of ice cream. Gee ta . just wanted hot food that I paid nearly 25 quid for and its not the first time they have messed up my order . 😢

The kids Bolognese was really bland and bruschetta was really disappointing

Pizzas and Kebab were delivered cold after waiting an hour and half. Chips were nice.

We regularly purchase a takeaway from The Cavaliere and while the meals have been disappointing at times (various issues noted further in this review), we have always continued to return. I don’t typically provide reviews as I don’t feel like my experience is so good or so bad that it warrants sharing. However I have felt disappointed to a level I felt I had to share. The first issue we experienced was when we received the wrong pasta dish. As it was wrapped before leaving the restaurant, I had no idea it was the wrong dish. I called when I got home, and to my amazement, there was no apology over the phone, and the general tone was as if I was lying (or trying to get a free meal of some sort…). I was asked to come back to collect the dish, to which I replied I would not. They therefore sent it via their delivery driver who was very apologetic and a credit to the company. I had to return the original dish as requested (just to check I’m not playing games or lying…). The following week, we returned normally for our takeaway, albeit reluctantly as I was disappointed following the prior weeks experience. I ordered two bottles of Coke via the online system, to be told only one had gone through. I therefore had to pay for the second bottle. On arriving home, I checked my online receipt to find that I had originally paid for two bottles. I called the restaurant and because I had opted to pay by cash, they could only credit my online account (against a future order - very clever, because now I have to return again…). The final visit to the Caveliere was a few weeks ago. It was our 10th takeaway in the space of 3 months. Brilliant - we get our 11th meal free, how exciting. The meal was great, and at the weekend just past, we decided we would use our voucher. I remembered receiving the text message with the code. When I checked the message, it stated the code had expired… we had only been given two weeks to use it… of which ten days of that I was on holiday with my family. I explained this in great detail to the man over the phone, to get a call back the following day to say sorry, just like Tesco, it’s expired. On their website, they promote ‘11th meal free’ - with no mention or small print that the voucher expires in two weeks (maybe worth updating - I had no idea and I doubt anyone else would suspect there was such a tight timescale to use the voucher). When the business landscape is so challenging in today’s market, service levels put the best above the rest. Sadly the Caveliere have a lot of work to do on this front. I hope they can rectify this over time, as their food is excellent. I’ll maybe return one day, but it won’t be any time soon (not that it’ll affect them in any way shape or form).

Food was cold and soggy, seemed like it was sitting for a long while before getting delivered.

Took an hour to come when it did arrive it was cold. I had asked for plenty sauce in the request box on our food which also was ignored as there was hardly any at all very disappointed!

First time having one in a long time, food arrived cold and tasteless, pasta was dry and pizza was all tomato sauce and no cheese. Not impressed

Missing sauce items that i paid extra for. Pizza crunch was wrong style, no mushrooms or onions. Apart from that all was good.

Pizza was great, it reminded me the actual Italian pizza I’d have when I go back to Italy to visit family. Delivery was fast, although the toppings was all over the box, probably due to the fact of not carrying the pizza box in the right way. A part from this, I’d definitely will buy again from here

Pizzas arrived cold but the kebab was great

Firstly, excellent service, atmosphere and food. No complaints with the food served or the extremely polite staff. I think it was gemma who served us,absolute star. 4 out of 5 and would have been 5 out of 5 but for a couple of minor experiences. Chose the xmas menu on a friday lunchtime but no turkey was available ! Opted for the cheeses as a dessert, quantity and quality were great, probably best cheese dessert i've had, the negative ? It was described as cheeses with celery and grapes, no celery or grapes appeared, didnt detract from the fantastic cheeses, but correct the description on the menu. Definitely return and hope for a 5 out of 5 next time, so close.

Been coming here for years and it rarely disappoints. Still family run after many decades in business. It is usually very busy, especially at weekends, and can be really noisy. Food has always been good, with great choice of pizzas, pastas, fish, meat, etc. the veal was popular with our group this time, as were prawns and pizza. One thing I would say is that some of the ingredients/recipes have changed over time. Lasagne didn’t come in an oven dish this time and wasn’t quite as good and, where there used to be Parma ham on some pizzas, it’s now cubed ham. Good wines, coffees, and sweets. Staff are still fab. Overall, good value for the money.

Worst experience at a restaurant I’ve had in Scotland. Booked a table for 1:45, arrive at 1:40, but table wasn’t ready till 2pm, they had us stand by the till for 20 minutes, what’s the point of booking then. Also it took ages for them to prepare food, I was timing it, because it took so long, at the end it took 90 minutes from the moment we arrived till I got my food served. Not just that, they’ve forgotten a few things from the order, but the worst part was, to my surprise when we asked for the bill, the waiter had added 10 percent tip(hand written) before even bringing it to the table. Not sure what made them think their service was worth tipping. I didn’t complain much at the time, because I was invited to someone birthday, and dinner want to ruin the party, but I don’t think I will ever go back here.

Amazing chippy the food is always piping hot when delivered can't fault the place and I don't go anywhere else

I understand that in military circles, there is a phrase to the effect that "amatuers talk about tactics: professionals talk about logistics". Perhaps the Cavaliere should reflect on this. They are genuinely capable of producing some of the most amazing Italian food south of Edinburgh (I'm being serious) but the delivery service is absolutely pathetic (based upon multiple experiences, but tonight took the biscuit). Waited ages after the website told me that my order was on its way and, ended up having a quite awful conversation with a staff member who hung up on me - and then I called them back to cancel. To be absolutely fair to them, they did say that if the pizzas were cold, they would remake and redeliver. Unfortunately, having worked briefly in the food service industry, once I complain about food, I walk... forever. Sorry Cavaliere!

Cheese and tomato pizza was pretty much only tomato sauce and a tiny bit cheese. Not expressed

Delivery service from this place is nothing short of a joke. Don't think in the last year we have had a Delivery from them that's been anything less than an hour and a half late. So that's over the 40 minutes to an hour that your told in the first place. Foods fairly decent but they constantly just lie on the phone "it will be leaving in 5 minutes"......50 minutes later still nothing. I would advise to pay in cash so you can send it back with the delivery driver and you've not wasted your hard earned money

Sent wrong food, over 40 mins later got the right food and asked to swap with old and open food.

One wrong item. Instead of hamburger supper received haggis supper.

£60 on a delivery and forget the sauce No good

Meat tasted like it’d been sat for a while was dry and hard. Also only 1 sauce instead of 2

Went as a large party and food was great. Quick service and all the food arrived together. Staff very helpful and would no issue visiting again.

We had our group (14) night out here and were well looked after. The food was excellent, arrived hot & good portion size. An added bonus was the lovely cocktails on offer. Toilets were palatial, the nicest I've visited since the Balmoral hotel!

We went as a party of 4 to celebrate mum's /granny's birthday, the staff from the start were very attentive. One in our party is coeliac and so requires a gluten free menu. Our server took the time to explain the options available which is a welcome change from some restaurants. All ordered 3 courses and all plates were empty after every course, absolutely no complaints on the standard of food provided, all in all a very enjoyable experience and would not hesitate to recommend. It was due to arrive from 21:05 but was more like 21:35…do think this timeframe from order is such a long time to wait for a takeaway? Chips were supposed to be large but was not a large portion. Pizza was good though.

It took over 2 hours to arrive, and when it finally got there the food had lost some heat. Other than that it tasted good

The food had to be reheated as it was cold and onion rings were not very nice.

Ordered a pizza and pasta on Saturday night, waited over an hour and a half for my delivery to come, they sent the wrong pizza, ordered a cheese and tomato pizza it came with fish onions and peppers on it. I then called back to tell them they said they would get another one sent out 9pm came still no pizza (placed my original order at 5.30pm) I called back to ask for a refund was told a driver would drop this off never happened.. called back again on Sunday to ask about my refund was told it would be Monday a manager would be in touch.. it’s now Thursday still no call or refund paid £26.00 for a pizza I didn’t get and a pasta that was bland and I could of made in my own house for a couple pound. Absolutely shocking service.

We ordered on what I presume was a busy Saturday. Delivery was esti for 18.40 - 19.00 and arrived 19.15 The starters were cold. The bruschetta with cheese was stuck to the box, so ended up having to remove the cheese. However the pasta dishes were piping hot and very tasty.

It is the second time that we as a family of 12 have been there for dinner. Absolutely great Restaurant in all aspects, 5 Star we give them.

Very busy during weekend dinner, but worthy the waiting. Most people order the authentic Sichuan spicy dishes. I ordered several seafood dishes, very satisfied.

Pizza turned up with 1 piece of pepporni per quarter. Rang and complained and they denied it. Still have half the pizza, will be taking it back tomorrow for them.

Good was good but despite plenty of staff and them not being busy it took a long time to see anyone after we were seated and also quite long to get the check and subsequently pay. I try to be understanding as I know there is more to serving than just what you see but overall we felt ignored by the wait staff. Food was quite good though.

Delivery driver handed me one garlic mayo, I said I'd paid for 2 and he said it was nothing to do with him and "maybe it's in the bag". It wasn't. My burger should have had blue cheese and didn't, my peri peri fries genuinely tasted like cardboard and were absolutely inedible, my partner's burger was bun was so soggy it was comparable to baby food and the mozzarella was a congealed lump of rubber. Very disappointed, the actual restaurant has always been good, but the takeaway is awful. Will never order anything from them again.

Great food great service let down by delivery driver that basically pushed to be paid over 2 pound tip the excuse was he would have to see if he had change in the car... he obviously didn't want to go do that and got £2.20 tip. He also had the cheek to leave my gate open too... not happy never felt pushed into paying out a tip unless I wanted to

Just back from our first trip to this lovely restaurant. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat after being at the country park. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and we had a lovely table. The waiting staff were very attentive and didn’t rush us. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. The food was beautiful. My husband said it was the best pizza he has had. The sticky toffee pudding was the perfect pudding to finish off with. Just gutted I had the car and couldn’t sample some of the cocktails that were being delivered to the other tables, next time tho.

A very enjoyable dining experience. Friendly staff, especially Ricardo (Ricci). A varied, mouthwatering menu. We each had risotto - seafood risotto and one with king prawns and a creamy sauce. Each one was delicious. We were able to take our time and enjoy the ambience. Will definitely return here. Thank you.

Hour and a half for a delivery Sent me a small amount of kebab meat and a 2 pitta breads no sauce or salad and missing desert took 1 look at the box had a look inside and handed it back lucky I never paid them any money at the door , phoned them up offering to send a kebab up in 5 min but took them hour and a half for the first delivery u know where u can stick it drive to chips shop round corner was served in 5 min First time I ordered from there and will be the last

Polecam zupę krem grzybowy. Pizza jest oczywiście najlepsza u Włocha, a spaghetti palce lizać . Duży wybór win.Bezbłędna obsługa duże brawa.
