Years ago I tried to book a table for two. They only had a table for four. Refused my booking. Never been there since.

Warm friendly, and welcoming family run bistro. Good value. Well worth a visit when your in Penicuik.

Giovannis is the perfect place to eat in or take out. The food is always fresh and delicious with impeccable service! Recently Giovannis made me a Lemon Drizzle birthday cake with very short notice, big enough for 18 people, and it tasted phenomenal. Such a heart warming place to visit, good wholesome food! Thank you!

This restaurant is a pure delight! Beautiful food, friendly staff, great atmosphere! My husband had the fillet steak with pepper sauce and he says it was the best steak he has ever had.

Excellent value and prompt and friendly service. Had a quick lunch of Spaghetti Carbonara and it appeared in less than 5 mins and was very tasty. Almost all main courses less than £10 each so a great place to take the family for an affordable meal out. Would definitely recommend.

Have been coming to Giovanni’s for years as a family. But the last few visits have been very disappointing. Came a month or so ago and found the service very poor - nobody checking whether meal was okay or if we needed anything else. Brushed this off as a bad day for staff. Returned last week and won’t be returning. Ordered a child’s fish goujons for an elderly relative and these arrived so overcooked they were inedible. We sat with empty plates for 25 minutes before these were cleared and I said to the waitress about them being over cooked and she rather rudely said I should have said something and the chef ‘just makes them crispy’. When I explained that nobody came to check how the meal all I got was an eye roll. Very disappointing as it’s one of the only nice places to sit in and eat in Penicuik.

Absolutely fantastic buffet for a small family party from Giovanni. Everyone loved the food which was beautifully presented and really perfect. Thoroughly recommend

This place is a small italian restaurant. Has awesome tiramisu dessert on selective days, to die for soup of the day, moist and perfectly soft garlic bread, generously sprinkled salted chips, delightful pastas and great desserts of the day. Must visit this place if you enjoy a melow lunch with your friends and family as it's pocket friendly and worth every penny spent.

Fantastic little Bistro. Always a warm welcome and the food is always first class. Service is quick and efficient. I would advise anyone thinking of going to book a table, it is a very popular place. If you like a glass of wine/beer with your meal you must take your own. I can highly recommend a visit here.

Travelling to Peebles we decided to stop for lunch in Penicuik. Not much on offer locally but I think we found the best there was. This Bistro caters to regulars and that tells you the food was good as the customers certainly came back often. We both had the lunch special of bacon and vegetable quiche. Very nice. The Bistro is not licenced but you can bring in your own wine. The waitress offered to go next door to the pub to get me a small bottle of wine. That shows you how helpful and friendly the staff are. The other meals we saw looked excellent.

Definitely the most delicious and fresh food in Penicuik. The atmosphere is always good and the service is on point every time I visit. I recommend asking about the specials because they are usually very nice. Highly recommended for couples and groups.

Wow just wow. We celebrated our sons birthday with his grandparents today with an early tea. The food was amazing, staff are amazing and stunning value for money. A gem of a place serving home made amazing food .

Giovanni’s was opened during the lockdown supplying home cooked Italian dishes, basic menu for obvious reasons at this time, but food was excellent.

Trio of brushetta as a starter, salmon, tomato and ham. Both had steak cooked perfectly to our preference. Not the first time we've visited he won't be the last. Try having breakfast some time, it will make a great start to the day.

Stopped for lunch on a weekday with 3 small kids. Very busy, popular place. Range of Scottish and Italian dishes - well priced, all tasty - pasta was of Italian standard. A real surprise.

Perfect sized lunch. Great coffee. Great service.great price. Will definitely go again . This looks like a small place. The dark front and grey windows made it look shut from the car. A friend recommended it and they were right. It's not the place to impress customers at but it's the place to eat. We live in Penicuik and would never have tried it but for the recommendation. Thanks Giovanni and The Server, Dion, I think. We didn't try the soup, no room for pud. Loved it

Giovannis is a hidden gem in Penicuik. We just had lunch and it was outstanding, pollo kebab with rice and salad. Service is always exceptional, very friendly and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend

Firm favourite with local friends & families to meet & chat - Sunday breakfast/brunch especially!! Providers of excellent ‘outside catering’ for events/functions also.

Been a regular here since it opened, sampled most of the day and evening menus. Always pleased by the plates. Had the special chicken, with mushroom white sauce, chicken sooo tender and moist, the sauce like nectar. Front of house faultless.

Disappointed with food,not a vast amount to choose from on menu, warm night and lots of flies around which spoilt it for me. No spaghetti Bolognese on menu! Certainly not inexpensive.

You are lucky if you can get a reservation as this restaurant can be very busy.. You can BYOB and they go to out of their way to please everyone.

Had a ham and cheese sandwich which came with a tired looking side salad that had been drowned in oil and balsamic vinegar, which had then soaked into the sandwich. Pretty average. Coffee was decent and the service friendly.

You will never be disappointed never had a meal I’ve not liked, lovely family always take time out to come and have a blether.

First visit to this restaurant and as a local I was really looking forward to it, but sadly it was a very average meal. I had the Calimari to start and it tasted okay but the batter was very undercooked. Two of us also had the most expensive steak medallions and we were very disappointed. It seemed a pretty cheap piece of meat in a very bland sauce. Even the vegetables were over cooked.

Good Italian food made to order with fresh ingredients. No licence but no cover charge so BYOB. Good service. Frequently busy so book a table.
