The Garden by Oddfellows in Cheshire West and Chester

Great location, service, food and atmosphere. No real wine list and the our room had a strange semi open plan en-suite but it wouldn't put me off booking again at all.

Lovely place with lovely staff but I would not recommend a Sunday lunch. Tasteless and seriously tough meat. Been there a few times for a beer but not tried the restaurant so can't comment.

Great Location and lovely Quirky Hotel. Had Afternoon Tea there for a friends birthday which was lovely Staff couldn't of been more helpful.Room was lovely and clean not overly big.Have to say not enough tea bags only one and I was in a double room lol.Breakfast was lovely and fresh and really nice.

Booked a night through Virgin Experience day as a Xmas present. The cost of the package through Virgin, with a 20% discount, was £156, but the cost of the room was £107, so I overpaid by £50. I did raise that with the hotel, but they ignored my emails about it. However, the hotel was clean, tidy and had some lovely people working there. Not too impressed with the room layout, which included a glass frosted shower cubicle. Just felt odd that you can be watching the TV whilst your wife is having a shower in the same room. Quirky, no, just strange. Breakfast was excellent and the night porter was very friendly and helpful.

Visited recently for the afternoon tea with santa with 2 children. Overall it was OK, seating area was nice and actual santa visit was very good. My main disappointment lay in the food and gifts that were given. Food was OK but tea and coffee was slow and usually quite cold. The gifts from.santa were the worst bit, for what we paid per person we expected more than one of ghe oddfellow elfs running down to home bargains on a budget. Labels even left on. Wouldn't do this afternoon tea with them again I'm afraid.

Be wary if you are thinking about Oddfellows for large parties or events. Very poor communication via email to arrange events leaving myself unclear about the cost of the evening, and then overuse of ‘smiley emojis’ when responding to concerns in an attempt to resolve matters. This same party organiser on the evening was very cold and when asked, would not deliver us our dishes for the 2 party members who weren’t able to attend due to illness. Shame as the food was lovely and private room was presented well which is why we asked for the dishes to be brought out that would have been for our 2 absent party members. Their costly minimum spend price I thought would have warranted that!

Been to chester every December for the past 5 years different hotels but when we found odd fellows by chance couldn't believe our luck it is a hidden gem got everything you need the staff were lovely very helpful the girl who does the cocktails at the bar looked after us very friendly lovely girl the 5 stars could be plus 5 great great staff defo booking for next year well recommended

For 2 years on the trot I have been hosting a Christmas event in their private dining 'Tea Room'. There's an obvious reason for returning back this year. The Event team are more than helpful to begin with. As for the event itself, the food is incredible, the accommodation for dietary requirements with a vegan menu produced on request. The room is dressed beautifully and couldn't recommend them more. Special shout out to Natalie. If you're looking to book a Christmas event next year, let me know before you do so I can secure my date first!

Loved this place! Great restaurant (Italian) across the street. Lobby bar is wonderful, service is great, rooms are quirky and fun. Our room had a round bed. Kinda, "what?" But the room layout worked with it and the two nights we spent were very peaceful. Will request that room again!

Great location for sightseeing. Overall, hotel good but a few areas could be improved upon. Service: poor at breakfast with young waitress who didn't seem to have a clue. The waitress at dinner was clumsy on a couple of occasions. Her appearance/dress looked like she'd just chucked on a dirty jumper and jeans!! The room was comfortable and clean but has a glass (opaqued in the middle section) partition to the shower & loo. As liberal as we are there's some aspects of our bathroom habits which we like to keep private. So a glass screen is not very pleasing! We like music, but having a pre-dinner drink in the bar was disappointing as the music was so loud we couldn't chat. Overall, the place is nice, such a shame about staffing/music issues which with a bit of training and consideration could be sorted.

Great location, Great hotel. we stayed in the attic of the old building room was nice but needs a little spruce up, new TV, new mini bar, lick of paint. Oh and mind your head on the bathroom roof. The bar and garden are brilliant.

A equipe não se prontifica a ajudar( com bagagem por exemplo) tivemos vários problemas, o telefone não funcionava, o frigobar não deitava frio , o chuveiro não tinha água gente ( um deles )tivemos de ir pedir água quente….. a limpeza, da torneira do lavatório não era limpa a muito tempo seguramente, tive de a limpar , quando abria a torneira sortava uma pasta preta que se soltava 🤮 necessita de manutenção e renovação de algumas coisas.o hotel não tem elevador, o que para quem tem crianças ou mobilidade reduzida não é bom . O pequeno-almoço era bom.Tem o seu encanto .

Stunning hotel friendly staff and quicky

Didn't stay over but attended a wedding here, it was one of the best weddings I have been to. The staff were lovely, food was amazing. The rooms used for the weddings were unique and quirky. Overall fun atmosphere.

This place is ok. Or room was not great and very small with wet carpet and a leaking shower. There is no lift. Breakfast was not great. For the price it was not worth it. Staff were great however.

This was a fun hotel. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Rooms were tremendous, subtracting one star for the meals which were good, but not exceptional.

Very quirky little boutique hotel in the centre of Chester. Stayed in room 16 which was a duplex with large bath at the foot of the bed. Nice room but the bathroom around is very tight! 2 people getting ready at the same time could be an issue. A few stains on the carpets hence not giving 5 stars but all in all we were happy with the room. We had a few drinks in the garden terrace area, which was nice. Could have done with a little background music as the atmosphere was quite dull without. Breakfast was included and could not be faulted , small continental buffet and choice of cooked options. Again , the breakfast room was super quiet making you feel awkward if you spoke as everyone else could hear. Any could have done with some back ground music to improve the atmosphere, but food was good! Perfect location to explore Chester for a weekend.

Food was good, so were the staff. We had to go around the block to get in as we had a wheelchair so not sure it's good for disabled people. We also had a problem with the lack of spoons, no teaspoons for the tea and we were giving soup spoons for our dessert when I complained about it their answer was "you are lucky it was not a fork for the soup

Beautiful hotel, best nights sleep I’ve had in ages! Our daughter loved the freestanding bath AND the rainfall shower, (she used both). Restaurant and bar were great too.

New years Eve stay with dinner and breakfast... gin and tonic served with mould on the garnished fruit as was prosecco... furniture in the room was tired, and the shower area was in need of refurbishment. There was no entertainment other than piped music... Great location and breakfast was good.

Stayed in Lady Mary's Loft on 23rd Dec with my partner. Previously stayed in a different room last year on 23rd Dec at the Oddfellows and had enjoyed it so decided to return. The main reason for booking this room was the price and the two baths. I've never stayed anywhere with two baths before. Oddfellows is also in a great location central to Chester and easy walking distance to local bars and restaurants. There is a small mini bar in the room and Nespresso machine. The WiFi in the room was great, and we were able to connect our own fire stick. The room was noisy until the music downstairs was turned off at 11 p.m., but this did not bother us. It was xmas! When we previously stayed, we had no noise problems, but the room was located in an annexe behind the hotel. Lady Marys loft is located at the top of the hotel and accessed by two flights of stairs, no lift. We were awoken the next day at 0745 by the music, but this was just an oversight by a staff member who had switched it on without realising it was at Friday night volumes. The boiler broke on the morning of our stay, and this problem was swiftly dealt with by Diane on reception. She sorted it out and called us to advise it had been done. Great customer service. We mentioned our early morning music alarm, and she was very apologetic. Really love this hotel, and staff are excellent. There are lots of different rooms, and we loved our unique stay in Lady Marys Loft. The shower is fabulous, the bed was really comfortable and the two baths are a lovely feature. We started off our Christmas break in style and would definitely return in the future.

Yeah this is abit of a treasure chest food is great dn the atmosphere is brilliant if you'd lucky you'll catch a bit of live entertainment and have an absolute ball definetly worth a visit

Great hotel and great staff. Hotel is clean and well presented, rooms are also clean, well designed and have a good level of features. We stayed in the 2 level room which was well equipped and the bed and bath were brilliant aswell as having the 2 TVs, 1 in the bedroom upstairs and 1 in the lounge area. Bar and outside seating is excellent, with heating on the cooler nights. Just a brilliant hotel in a great location that I would recommend for those staying in Chester for a few days.

Had our wedding here recently and the staff literally could not have been more fantastic. Rebecca the events planner and the Jay the bar manager (I think) were absolutely fantastic and honestly some of the best staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Will absolutely recommend this venue to anyone who asks.

Staff and service very good but unfortunately let down by a below par afternoon tea. The tea itself is teabagged rather than loose, the sandwiches on poor quality bread and a bit dry, the scones ok but also seemed a bit past their best. Overall, for the price, not great. The restaurant itself also not as grand as the foyer.

lovely common areas with quirky feel which I loved and the staff were really nice and accommodating. Was disappointed with the room, it was small and I thought the décor was a bit naff, expected something a bit more luxurious and quirky for the price.

This is a must to go into Sally's shop and see her amazing array of stuff to sell and also you can chill out at the back of the shop, where you can sit alfresco and sip a cuppa tea of coffee.

Este es verdaderamente un jardín secreto en la parte trasera de oddfellows hall. Varias cabinas y mesas abierta en un hombre hecho. jardín Mis amigos y yo fuimos en un día laborable y había un menú muy razonables. Dos o tres campos. Todos tuvimos diferentes platos y todos estaban contentos. Pollo con patatas violeta era el favorito plato principal. Tuvimos la suerte de tener un día cálido y soleado para sentarse fuera. Sólo un poco especial

Llegamos y nos sentamos en una mesa alta a pesar de que teníamos un niño pequeño. Esperamos un rato para que nada en menús que nos explicaron cuando llegamos ellos. Que compraron y no proscecco darnos una selección de bebidas en el menú. Pedimos que nos cambiaran a una mesa baja que no podían hacer. Cuando la comida llegaba entonces esperamos otra comida de 10 minutos para el niño. Nunca nos ofrecieron ningún té!!!! Después de haber comido las bandejas no fueron aclaradas, así que estábamos tratando de hablar a través de ellos a las otras. Cuando mencionamos los problemas que luego esperar unos 30 minutos para que un miembro senior del personal volver a nosotros, nos preguntó si un miembro del personal que pudimos ver el gerente que nos chistaba( y luego empezó a hablar de nosotros a otros miembros del personal. El gerente vino al final y se disculpó, etc. pero tiene mi regalo a mi contaminado hija de su sorpresa de cumpleaños 18!!!

No disfrutar de este restaurante, fuimos para el té de la tarde aquí como parte de una despedida de soltera. No disfruta de la comida que era precioso. Los bollos eran para morirse, simplemente pensamos que era demasiado caro para lo que era.

Comimos aquí el primer sábado de julio, durante un viaje de celebración de Chester. Nuestro grupo de ocho entradas ordenados y platos principales. Algunos eran más sabroso que otros. El Chef parece saber cómo cocinar pescado como el plato correctamente aunque pedí era piel crujiente en la parte superior y se caía a pedazos debajo. El personal era servicial y educado. No sé si era por el tiempo que había reservado la mesa (18.30), pero el restaurante no parecía llenar. Volvería la próxima vez que vayamos a Chester.

Estuvimos un huésped en el hotel y reservamos una comida en el restaurante. El servicio era estupendo y el menú era realmente muy original.

The food was gorgeous and the cocktails were fab! There was a set menu and an A La Carte menu... food was sampled from both and they were exceptional

Two glasses of Malbec and a Prosecco £27: unbelievable.Yes the service is attentive and I would have stayed longer and drank more had the drink not have been so expensive.I appreciate its national Malbec week and perhaps Oddfellows are celebrating by charging extortionate prices. I'm unsure in hindsight whether I ought to have framed the drink or should I have retained the glass.

Me and my friend went here for cocktails and sat in the secret garden. Cocktail was lovely and the waitress was friendly and helpful.

Booked Oddfellows 3 weeks in advance of M Day requesting a table for 4, 2 of whom would be children. I made the point of asking if they would have a children's menu on the day; the answer was yes. A few days later I received a call from them confirming my booking so I took the opportunity to ask again about the children's menu - once again, no problem.For some reason I received another call confirming that I would be turning up (no other restaurant I have EVER visited has been so neurotic about a booking), the chance was there so I took it..."there will be a kids menu, won't there?" "Yes, sir, there will."You've guessed it already - no children's menu on the day. On arrival we were seated away from the main restaurant, hidden behind a gloomy curtain and in front of a draughty door. We ordered drinks with one staff member which were delivered by another. The meal order was taken by yet another employee and delivered by a completely different one again. Because of the lack of said children's menu one of the youngsters had to put up with a bread and butter starter whilst the other adventurously tried the chicken liver pate but left most of it. The mains were a disaster for the kids because they were all too rich and just 'too adult' for them.The set menu price was over £30 per head and they had the temerity to charge full price for the kids. Service was slow, ambience was non-existent and the whole experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. Normally I would have made have complained, but as it was Mothers Day the occasion felt inappropriate. I'll get my revenge in the the only way that I can, by ensuring that I never visit again.

I was optimistic when we arrived at Oddfellows as it is a nice place with a pleasant vibe. I was really quite disappointed with the food though which was a shame as it was a treat for my birthday. I had ordered the fish & chips which was a rather steep £12. The batter was very tasty if a little soggy, but the chips were hard in the middle which just totally ruined it for me. My friend seemed to enjoy his food though. (£10 burger)I also thought the menu choice we were given was extremely limited. A choice of 3 mains or 5 'light bites' or traditional afternoon tea at £17.50 was all that seemed to be on offer.I won't be going back in a hurry - there are so many places to eat in Chester that offer (in my opinion) better food at lower prices.

Great place with lots of different rooms and outdoor courtyard space with patio heaters in little booths. Great cocktails. Only downside was that we asked for afternoon cakes. The coffee cake was the size of a 50pence piece and cost a few quid !!! Think they need to rethink size portions.

My original review was sensored by trip advisor so here goes again so now I offer a subjective opinion Terrible service which is dictated by how you look and if you have a baby.Being with a baby does not fit into the WAG lifestyle that those working there aspire to.Be wary and know your food as if your not a WAG or a good-looking female you won't be told what you are having. If you are from the Cheshire set then you can have corny stories which are chringe worthy. Going in with a baby; forget it as for some reason this allows you to be seen as the lower class.My rating says it all considering the sensorship I have been put under with this review.Lewis Carroll wrote a fiction book called Alice in Wonderland in 1865 (they have a tea room based on this at the venue ) FACT- we are in the 21st century where we should all be treated equally People who have babies can eat out and pay just like pretensions women and deserve to be treated equally.TAKE NOTE

Booked a table for 13th Feb. Option of Valentines menu or A la Carte on the website. Great! I thought, as I don't enjoy dining in places with occasion menus and was happy to go with the latter. Arrived on time, told table wasn't available, so we waited at the bar. No offer to take our coats. 20 minutes later, my boyfriend had to remind staff we were there. Still no table, then all of a sudden, shown to a table outside of the restaurant, closer to the bar. On one side, bar music blasting and on the other, a cold walkway where bar-goers were walking through. Asked for a different table, waited again for 10 minutes (our mistake, we should have walked out there and then) then shown to a table with no apology or welcome. Handed the Valentine's menu. Asked for A la Carte as that's what we specified, I wouldn't have booked otherwise. Told only Valentine's menu was the only available menu and that all customers had been contacted (funnily enough, I seem to have been missed out on all those phonecalls...) The waiter then had the audacity to say that 'This is quite a lively restaurant' What on Earth does that have to do with it? I've eaten at restaurants all over the world, thank you very much, try an apology before patronising your customers. We walked out, bought a bottle of wine at the lovely French restaurant up the road and ordered take out. I live about 20m away from Oddfellows and have taken friends there for drinks before but never again. Offers a shiny experience for first-timers, but if you're local, avoid like the plague, they have no interest in taking care of customers who want a regular spot.

'The food doesn't really match the initial impression and ambience of the restaurant'!! We dined here on a Monday night with just one other table...Our dining experience started well in a quirky and chic looking ambience. After ordering a very fine Argentinian Tonles Malbec (£29.50 - both tables were drinking this!) our evening had started perfectly...BUT...once the food arrived we were, on the whole, a bit disappointed.Firstly, the bread appetiser tasted dry and stale...Secondly, the 'tiny' pig cheek (£10) which I selected for my starter had no flavour and was quite cold and tough - Michelin star presentation but a two star Trip Advisor taste (Also it was the size of a lime leaf - Babe springs to mind!)Thirdly, our daughters (child's menu) fish and chunky chips looked as though they both had been deep fried in very old cooking oil as it appeared a dark brown colour which just didn't look or taste right. Oil should be changed regularly - at least twice a week in a restaurant.We hoped for an improvement!...45 minutes later our main course arrived. Just to remind everyone who reads this... 'We dined here on a Monday night with just one other table.'My wife's hake fillet was 'very fresh and had a nice taste' (£18) and my medium rare fillet steak (£27) was 'OK' but compared to other fillets I've had in the past (at this £) it was rather small in comparison. Accompanied with a rather limp looking tomato and flat mushroom (sadly though the type you'd get in a high street fry up!) Oh and of course, I nearly forgot, the infamous brown oily chips!! The side order of peppercorn sauce however was tasty and made my meal more flavoursome.Dessert was a hit! - the Honeycomb sweet dish had a lot of thought into the presentation and taste. Overall though an expensive meal for the standard of food (£120 and then my 10% tip) for the three of us. Maybe as it was a quiet Monday night and the fact there was a function on in another part of the hotel it made a difference to the quality and time scale of the food we received. I'd certainly concentrate on the food and service of a restaurant first though before making it look nice.Ps:- Funky cocktail bar though with helpful bartenders.

Superb cooking and charming service in a relaxed atmosphere. Great idea to suggest wine pairings on the menu which encouraged us to try something different without having to ask.The friendly, smartly suited gentleman, who appears to be the maitre'd, seems to ensure everything runs smoothly and engages with the diners, he made our evening extra special without being intrusive.Minus one mark for limited vegetarian choice which I had mentioned on booking but it didn't spoil our evening.

I booked my partner and I into this restaurant for Valentine's Day. When booking I could choose between the a La Carte or special Valentine's fixed menu. I chose a La Carte at we would be arriving late and I didn't know what state our hunger would be in.Sadly when I arrived I was informed that despite booking there was no table available and we were deposited on a table at an outside area. It was freezing (February). The hits kept on coming as we were informed that we had to have the Valentine's menu as a La Carte was not available. I showed them my booking but they didn't care. After complaining twice they agreed to let us order individual items from the set menu and charge us accordingly.This seemed ok to me. I ordered beef and my partner cauliflower. I wanted the beef Medium but apparently that wasn't allowed - only "Pink" or "Well Done" was acceptable.The beef came without any veg or other accompaniment and was cold. The cauliflower at least had potatoes with it but was amazingly salty.We decided to cut our losses and leave only to get the bill and find that "individually priced" items meant they charged me £30 for my cold, pink beef served on its own.My partner left crying and I grimly paid the piper never to return.Diabolical.

A brilliant experience.The bar area ambience is superb,Then you enter the small but quirky restaurant which is lovely.So far so good.but when the food arrived it was tremendous quality taste and presentation .The mains of guina fowl and fish was some of the best food we have eaten.The wine was also out of this world and the staff were some of the friendliest andprofessional. I have encountered.If you stay at this hotel eat here if not book a table.Its amust

The general ambience of the bar area with its wood panels,murals and a cocktail bar from a bygone era is fantastic. Staff very knowledgable and friendly great selection of beers. Restaurant area overlooking the garden, food delicious prepared to a high standard.Would definitely visit again

We chose The Garden Oddfellows as we like atmosphere, and we weren't disappointed. However sometimes this does compromise the food service, At the Garden this was not the case. The food was first class sublimely smooth parfait followed by a meaty piece of turbot, fantastic, we will be back......!

We went here for a freinds day out 12 of us the room was supposidley themed with a table and chairs upside down in a the theme of Alice in wonderland the food was very good but there wasn't much of it for nearly £80 I expect to come away feeling full but I was hungrier coming out as going in the theme should have been dick Turpin

Pleasant dining room facing out onto a terrace/garden area. Interesting menu with enough choice to suit most people. Dishes were nicely presented and food quality was above average, in particular I loved the venison. We also had a number of wines (by the glass) which were specially paired with our menu options and we were pleasantly surprised by price & quality. Very friendly personable waitress. This is not a top end fine dining restaurant - more like a relaxed bistro - but it's quality is up there with the best in Chester. We went on a Thursday evening when it was quiet so did not experience the weekend crowds. Enjoyed the evening and would certainly go again.

Stayed in the hotel on business and decided to dine in the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had the rump and pump special, great value and quality!

The chef was over reaching himself. Bread basket was stale and had to be replaced. The lamb rump had been looked but left under heat lamps and dried out. I don't expect to pay £130 for a meal and have a table of 12 "merry" drinkers seating near us. They were not eating just overflow from the bar. Avoid the weekends the noise from the bar was loud.

Good but too many cakes!! Not enough of the lovely sandwiches. The platter consisted of (per person) 4 finger sandwiches, one large scone with jam and cream, one large profiterole covered in white chocolate, an egg custard tart, a large slice of carrot and ginger cake and a macaroon! I could never ever eat that much cake and therefore felt I didn't get a lot for my money as a lot was left behind. Lovely setting and very helpful staff!

This was our first visit to Chester - so this place was highly recommended - first impressions - fresh, clean & professional - Boutique Hotel/Eatery - outstanding attention to detail - we hadn't booked & was busy Saturday lunchtime - could quite easily be the place to be seen........Initially Staff were about to turn us away - as t was a little manic there - but we explained that we would be happy with drinks & nibbles - so we were shown into the Garden - ideal place to natter - individual little areas to relax - all with Canopies - so whilst you are in the Garden - you are covered & there are generous overhead heaters too.Inside was busy with Hen Parties etc & Afternoon Tea - there did appear to be lots of young waiting staff - who were only able to work under the direction of their seniors & to be truthful after waiting for a couple of rounds of drinks & nibbles we decided to move on - but we couldn't get anyones attention for the bill - eventually we moved & tracked down someone so we could pay - but if anyone from Management reads these reviews - we could easily have strolled out of your place without settling our bill - those little Waiting Staff need to be given their own responsibilities!!Really great setting - thank you - we shall return.

After initial confusion of not finding our booking and keeping us waiting at the till (although the restaurant was empty apart from two other people) they then tried to seat us in a corner by the wall and till!Any way we got a nice table by the window and the waitress was really helpful and lovely so made up for it!The food was good - so all in all it redeemed itself and is worth a return visit!

I went here recently with my partner for a nice romantic meal having been before a few years ago.. Its a nice place to visit, staff were friendly. Menu interesting enough.The booking time being the price of your meal was interesting and quirky.Food was a little bland but the accompanying veg we ordered was really nice and made up for the main event somewhat.We were over charged on two counts on the bill, sop keep your wits about you if you go.I may go again, but will need time to forget a Little first.

Very nice restaurant/bar in the centre of Chester. Food was very good and the staff were helpful and attentive.It's a lively place so not for those looking for a quiet evening meal. I'd recommend it because the food was excellent and the staff were very good too.

This place really is amazing and addictive. The quirky design surprises and delights. The food is wonderful, genuinely one of the best breakfasts I've had.Service is excellent too, everyone is friendly and supremely professional.You can't help but get excited, and feel happy just being here. Was so different and quirky, the welcome we received was great, food tasted excellent, service was outstanding and the whole place just looked amazing and it was so different to your normal restaurant/ hotel.

Food was delicious and the setting delightful. Nice atmosphere & great central location near shopping & wall for riverside walk afterwards. The only downsides were fairly slow service & a smaller limited menu. Staff were helpful. Wifi didn't work too well im the restaurant or garden but we came to eat not surf so that didn't matter. A lovely venue which I look forward yo returning to.

My boyfriend and I had a very relaxing couple of drinks the garden which is so beautifully done - sitting near a 'log fire', outside in October was perfect. I asked the very attentive bartender to recommend different bourbons so had fun trying those out - a really comfy, relaxing place which is so quirky

Fab quirky place very busy as the races were on but still got served a little expensive but good atmosphere so ok really will definitely go again but check next time the races are not on

nipped in for drinks and snack , v nice , v clean , good staffing , an average selection of wines and beers . slightly disappointed . seating outside was nice .

My fiancé and I took the whole family several times on the run up to our wedding day at oddfellows and we have tried everything on their menu. none of which disappoints, excellent place for lunch/dinner or even breakfast

Shared a lovely afternoon tea in the garden, the quirky surroundings make the experience as much as the lovely afternoon tea. The service was incredibly attentive.

Nice venue and staff polite. Food pretty average and overpriced. One starter on the menu admittedly does say Scallop but at £13 I don't think I have ever had a starter that consisted of one Scallop!The main courses were generally fine but certainly nothing to rush back for. There are better places to eat in Chester than this although the venue is arguably one of the best in terms of decor and location.Won't be rushing back.

The quirky decor and classy venue and atmosphere made this a great chpoice for a Saturday evening meal. The food quality was excellent and although not a cheap choice (£17 for a lamb main course) it is excellent value as the food was superb. Rump of lamb cooked to perfection with hotpot potato and red cabbage was delicious. The puddings menu all sounded delicious but my Earl Grey pannacotta with lemon curd and lemon shotbread was one of the nicest puddings I have ever eaten. Divine! If you are looking for somewhere a little different from a chain restaurant, which has delicious food and is also a great venue for pre and post dinner cocktails and drinks then this is a great choice!

Popped in for a bite to eat today. Place quite quiet with only one or two tables eating and a few tables drinking (Chester race day). Nice table nice staff not a lot on the lunch menu and we chose a sharing platter described as meat, fish, parfait, popcorn, crisps. When it eventually came 40 mins later it was basically a meat feast of chicken kebab, cocktail sausage, sausage meat roll, with sauces. When pointed out we were told that on race day they change to a race platter which they had forgotten to tell us. Apologies and some token fish dishes later we paid and left. For the standard of reports on trip advisor the result was poor and I will be unlikely to attend again. And I wish people would not refer to all at the table as "guys" when a lady is present, it's an Americanism too far!

a perfect place to meet up with friends, if the conversation slows you can always look around and take in the unique surroundings - so very well done.

Chester is swamped with several places offering Afternoon Tea. Competition is high but quality and value for money is what Oddfellows restaurant has over its competition. The boutique style of the garden, the great offer of the "beat the clock", and the attentiveness of the staff all made my experience an enjoyable one. The afternoon tea can be as cheap as around £12 per person if booked correctly, just be aware that if you add the fizz it will increase your bill drastically.

had an excellent meal here with a nice rioja. very light and great service from all the waiting staff particularly restaurant manager on arrival who guided us past the noisy bar to get to the restaurant

We had wine and nibbles in this quirky environment. A nice outdoor space which was very busy. Staff were very friendly too all in all a nice space

We had an amazing afternoon chilling out in the garden followed by an amazing meal. We ate from the Main menu and could not fault all 3 courses.The decor is so unusual - so nice to come somewhere different than the boring pub chains.The thing that made it extra special was the staff. The attention to detail was appreciated and we have to give a mention to Paolo, he was amazing! You have got a good one there!!Would totally recommend this place for drinks and food xx

we stayed at the hotel so had drinks in the garden, a great quiet place to sit in the sun,very tranquil and peaceful. i wish we had places to sit like this where i live.

Came here for afternoon tea with a friend. Very warm welcome from the staff.The tea came along with the usual sandwich selection, scones, & cakes. The tea was in a stainless steel pot (which I hate) with a tea bag not loose leaf tea.The sandwiches were very nice with different fillings that you normally have & so were all the cakes & scones. They even packaged up the remaining cakes for us to take home, which was great. The only let down was we were never asked if we would like any more tea.Not sure if I would go again as there are so many other places to try afternoon tea.

By some accounts, we visited on an "off night". However, we felt let down by the menu (pretentious), the wine, the service, and the noise.

Mrs Cheshire booked us in here on a Bank Holiday Sunday - we were having a one-night... no, not stand... STAY in Chester (but not at Oddfellows Hotel - too expensive). I was a little apprehensive, after the mixed reviews, but we bit the bullet.On balance, the whole evening was GREAT! Mainly becasue the after-meal drinks in the garden outside was really my sort of thing, and did not feel at all like Medieval Chester. It was fine weather, a bit cold (9 - 11pm), but the halogen (?) outdoor heaters were on - if they click off, look for the nearest timer and turn them back on.As regards the meal, it was tiny, so not for all-you-can-eat-for £10-Chinese-banquet fans, but pretty delicious - and I got my lamb crispy outside and NOT pink inside - something chefs struggle to comply with - but still tender and delicious. And small.Mrs Cheshire had the lemony chicken - very tasty and very lemony in a good way, judging from the l'il morsel I tried.We had already shared a bread, peppered butter and olive tapenade appetizer, which was fine. Without it, and the additional shared fat fries, we may have been hungry afterwards. Mimimal portion sizing.We skipped dessert as nothing jumped off the page at us. The overall menu choice is small, I'd say.So... the meal was very good. One blot on the landscape: they restaurant seemed completely unable to serve the (house) white wine any colder than, well, lukewarm. It arrived in one of those metal cylinders that DON'T have ice in them and, via the trick of faux science, are supposed to convince you that they'll 'keep the wine cold'. Yeah, right.Even so, the wine was warn anyway. They tried to ram a few grains of chipped ice down the gap between bottle and 'insulating wall' - and we tried to top that up with iced water from our glasses - but, 20 minutes later, no difference. Warm wine. The wine was taken away for 10 or 15 minutes to be 'worked on' behind the bar. 10 or 15 minutes later, no change - but it DID return in a proper ice bucket. Which meant that, 40 minutes later, it was cold enough for me but still too warm for my wife. Oh well. Got there in the end.We took the finally-cold dregs out into the garden and started to... well, chill, I supppose is the right word. We asked the 'garden waitress' (one of many) for 2 more large glasses of the same white house wine, and... you guessed it.. it was nice and cold! The house white was good, by the way. Chilean, I think, and £18. But 2 large glasses (25cl?) were only £10 (outside).So that explains the 4, not 5, stars, and tiny tip. Lots of running around, but no pro-activity for customers and actually solving the problem. The wine is warm. Chill it! With watery ice! (I'm being a little harsh saying that.)Other than that, I really liked the night as a whole. (Arrived 8.30. Main arrived 9.30. No dessert. Left for the garden at 9.50-ish.) I might just go back for the garden experience rather than the meal experience, but there's a good chance I'd try another rather expenisve meal, too.The restaurant decor was a bit boring. OK, but not as special as the other rooms. Tables in rows, but quite well spaced._________One final thing - most people are reviewing this restaurant as 'Oddfellows' which is pretty confusing. Is Oddfellows just the hotel itself? I think you'd need to be a Chester resident to know the difference. I definitely sat at the far end of the photo shown (with a tree inside), on the left, far end, next to the outdoor garden.

The food was wonderful and the service was attentive and friendly but the noise level driven by the adjacent Oddfellows bar was overwhelming. We were there on a Saturday night and the waitress said it was much better during the week.

Cocktails were superb, and great as pre drinks outside in the Alice in wonderland themed garden under the patio heaters.Service was good with very nice wine recommendation to go with our food. Food was excellent. I had the pork belly, beef and then the cheesecake. My girlfriend the scallops, sole and pecan pie. All of which were brilliant. Atmosphere and lighting was lovely too. Overall. Best meal we've had in a while and will definitely be returning!

I cannot begin to tell you what a lovely lovely time we had! From the moment we got there and walked in we were impressed! The secret garden was fabulous to have cocktails! Love it!! Staff were fabulous! Next we went into the restaurant and the wonderfulness of this place continued. The food was very good, the service was probably the best I can remember and it was the same from ALL staff. Worried to recommend too much in case I can't get a table next time!

This garden is just class, extremely well designed. If you havnt been find it and take a look. Its brilliant.

Lovely romantic relaxed atmosphere with gentle lighting. The young guy that served us was excellent, couldn't of done any more to help us. We only intended to have a few drinks before going on somewhere else for a meal but we were so comfortable and welcomed that we decided to stay for the evening. After our meal we sat in the bar and enjoyed some cocktails, I fancied one that wasn't on the menu and they were more than happy to make it for me. All round fantastic, would recommend!

Two course evening meal included with our stay. Nicest food we've had in chester... And served by a lovely polite girl!! All staff and attention to detail shows. Just perfect
